  • Pretty sure I just softlocked myself, I updated right after I beat brawly and I saw dock at the shipyard, but the aqua grunts will not move out of the way at all. I tried resetting events but that didn't work either.
Edit: nvm I wasn't supposed to do that, my b lol

Pokémon Inclement Emerald: A Decomp Difficulty Hack [Version 1.13]

Finished the game today. Now I can say for sure: this IS your best rom hack and easily one of the best I've played in ages. Every little QoL change made a big impact on the game experience. The difficulty was perfect for me, as it tested my skill several times, but still allowed me to take some of my favorite mons to the League.

I loved the Pokémon mods, especially Blastoise having Mega Launcher independent of Mega Evolution (allowed me to use Shell Smash + White Herb), and the new ability you gave Hitmonchan (outspeeding Swellow and Sceptile with Ice Punch was a blast).
I gave up completely on hidden ability starters due to Ability Patch being available so late. Besides that, I wish Grass-type TMs (at least Giga Drain) would come a little earlier. Those were the only limitations that frustrated me at times, but that's just my personal feedback and they didn't harm my experience in any way.

I'm looking forward to the post game 😃 Meanwhile, I'm planning to do at least one more playthrough. There's a lot of Pokémon I didn't have a chance to try yet, and I'm itching to do a Monotype run as well.

Seriously, congrats on your work (and kudos to everyone involved too)!
I hope to see more projects from you in the future 😉

Does there happen to be a document with the level-up movesets of the available Pokemon? If so I haven't been able to find it in what I downloaded.

Edit, because I advanced a bit further and ran into this issue. A number of early(ish) game Pokemon have HM moves when you catch them like Crabrawler with Rock Smash, but there isn't a way to delete those moves until Lilycove as far as I can tell. Do you plan to add some way of getting rid of HM moves earlier on?

One major issue: when I get an Alolan Sandslash from the Mauville Game Corner, the 16th and 17th Pokemon (3rd row, 4th and 5th column) in my 3rd PC Box, get replaced with ?????????? and Bad Egg, respectively. Before they get replaced they are a Magmortar and a Pinsir.

Also another small issue, but the Meowth, Persian, and Raichu found in the South East Safari Zone (near the entrance) are their normal forms while the documentation says they should be in the Alolan forms. This is also the case for the Dugtrio and Marowak in the North East.

Another question: Where do we get the Mega stone key ring in this game so that we can mega evolve? Thanks in advance.

You can get the Mega Ring from Norman in Petalburg Gym before battling him.

I'm really interested in this, but is exp share ever going to be made toggleable? I understand the appeal, I understand the game is balanced around it, but I absolutely do not like it being forced at all times. I personally enjoy the training aspect of pokemon, I prefer to use EXP share as a tool to train the way I want to train, and not as a mandated balance strategy. Radical Red eventually gave the player this option.

Honestly, why not make it so disabling exp share gives the battling pokemon extra exp? So you have the choice to train your team or train a new addition to the team without having to store everyone else in a PC?

  • So i was wondering if it would be possible for you to add an easy mode to this game. I find that this game can get a little too difficult at times even on Normal mode? I would really think it could give a good option for people who would like to casually play through and enjoy all the great features in this game without the difficult part. This game could get a bit too stressful with the difficulty at times even on normal mode. And i feel like the ev and iv and nature altering isn't even helping.I heard Radical red added an easy mode recently and was wondering if an Easy mode is ever planned for this one?

Yeah that's unfortunate, I should've said not to do that in the patch notes too. Sorry!

Thanks! That's the first Dusk Lycanroc and Drapion in a HoF team I've seen so far! Hitmonchan's probably a bit too good with that ability honestly, but that's not a bad thing!
Giga Drain could probably be a bit earlier yeah. Will consider another early Ability Patch too.

Hope you enjoy the second playthrough too! A few things have changed in the first half of the game so it'll be a little different at least!

No, that's all available in-game in the Pokedex this time (and also in the source code if you really want a document).
To answer your second question, I'd suggest talking to the old man in any Pokemon Center. He's not just there to block the region map!
Another small issue, but the Meowth, Persian, and Raichu found in the South East Safari Zone (near the entrance) are their normal forms while the documentation says they should be in the Alolan forms. This is also the case for the Dugtrio and Marowak in the North East.
Thanks for letting me know, will fix those!

I'm not intending to make it toggleable at any point - it does more than just give out extra exp and the early game would be a complete mess without it.

If you want to train up a new team member all you need to do is give it the Exp Share held item; in this game that has the same effect as switching it into every single Pokémon you battle, but without putting it in any danger. There's no need to box the other team members; it'll catch up to them very quickly, even if they level up a couple of times while training.

So i was wondering if it would be possible for you to add an easy mode to this game. I find that this game can get a little too difficult at times even on Normal mode? Sorry that's not something I'm interested in doing, as that would require going through all 700-something trainers and giving them new teams; it's not just the bosses that would need changes. That's a lot of work, and there's more than enough for me to do as is. That said, the hack is open source, so I have no problem with someone else making an easy mode (though I'd expect them to keep it up-to-date too so I don't get flooded with bug reports from an older version).

Hi Buffel, I'm wondering if there's anyway to get a Protean Froakie? I'm too far into the game to reset for one, and I just don't know anyway of getting its HI. Is it possible to get one with Protean from the Casino? Your hacks are 10/10 by the way.

Oh, i hope someone else can maybe take the time to add an Easy mode to the game sometime.

Really Fun Hack! Anytime I can use contrary draco meteor, I'm happy lol. Really polished and well done, all the pokemon changes feel natural and fun.

Hey, you have to use an Ability Patch on it - it can't be obtained by resetting. And thanks!

Hopefully! It'd be cool to see.

Thanks! It's always fun using that combo haha.

Also, I've just uploaded 1.4.1, which fixes some bugs. Changes can be seen here: link.

I would do it myself if i knew how and had all the tools too. To be honest.
If you've got a PC you can follow this thread to set up the pokeemerald decomp and all of the tools you'll need too. For editing trainers VS Code is the only tool you'll need, but you'll also need to be able to build the ROM to test and make patches etc.

I'm aware that there's a patch which removes EVs, but there's a part of me that would prefer if it also removed the ability to change IVs and Natures, and gave opposing trainers "random" IVs and Natures.

I just think that Natures and IVs make your Pokemon unique, and changing it shouldn't be allowed, maybe only in post-game for the Battle Frontier.

Especially for Nuzlockes, it forces you to work with what you have. Unfortunately I can't just "not use" the IV and Nature changers, as the game's difficulty kinda requires it.

So yeah, I was just thinking there could be another mode on top of Challenge mode that implements these changes (as well as removing EVs). Maybe this falls outside of this hack's intended purpose though, idk. Maybe I'm just a purist :)

Drapion is a staple in my teams, for being an effective counter to Psychics, Ghosts and Fairies, but that was my first time using Dusk Lycanroc too, and it proved its worth!
I think Hitmonchan is fine. Its ability is somewhat overpowered, yeah, but its base Atk is decent at best, so even with priority and a Life Orb, I had trouble with bulkier mons like Garchomp, for instance, since the moves affected by that ability aren't very strong either. Not to mention Hitmonchan was arguably the worst of Tyrogue's evolutions, but now it's something to consider.

Thanks for hearing my suggestions. I'll start a new playthrough soon 👍
By the way, I forgot to ask this before, but is Eviolite in the game? I'm in the mood to run some tanks with it.

Hello again! Still enjoying the game very much with my Ghost-team (Oricorio beating Volcarona's Fiery Dance with Dancer was a bigbrain moment for me).

I just stopped by to point out that PhantomForce move doesn't have an animation, dunno if it's a bug or if it hasn't been done yet. Speaking of which, are you the one doing the animations for the new moves?
Does Mirage Tower show up again even after it's crumbled? Asking because there's a new area that's accessed from it

Also, shouldn't Cubone/Marowak be able to learn Low Kick? The pokemon center tutor says it's not compatible with my Alolan Marowak.

Pokémon Inclement Emerald: A Decomp Difficulty Hack [Version 1.13]

(Gardevoir, Hitmonchan, Mismagius, Garchomp, Delphox, Luvdisc)
Loved this hack- absolutely fantastic. Played on whatever the hardest difficulty is, i forget. I chose Fennekin as my starter, partially bc I love it but also because of the sick new Pyromancer ability, which proved to be super fun to use! That's one of the strengths of this hack, I really enjoyed the rebalancing of mons. Blitz Boxer was absolutely insane and with a choice band carried me through the endgame. soul heart luvdisc, pixilate misdreavus were fun too! not everything can be good (tropius was garbage) but i still loved experimenting. i found myself adapting to fights a lot without even having to switch out team members, just changing moves, items, and abilities (most commonly switching between soul heat and swift swim luvdisc due to rain team abundance)

I really, really enjoyed having to get super creative to bust through the tough teams- I had to use swift swim luvdisc and chlorophyll tropius (shiny, btw!) in the same fight! that was the rival fight in electric terrain + rain, easily the hardest fight of the game for me.

The difficulty curve was almost perfect- the early fights were tough, but I didn't have to reset much for the first few gyms. part of that was soul heart luvdisc, which is absolutely insane in this game ftr. mid game was some of the hardest pokemon i've played, but late game got quite easy despite me not changing my team at all. 7th gym onward teams seemed to lose a good bit of variety in typing, i felt the last super hard fight was wally on victory road. the entire e4 + champion was easier than some of the veterans on victory road imo. luvdisc swept 4/6 of drake's team- i really dont think the e4 and champ needed to be as strictly monotype as they were

poke vial was great, but idk why it wasnt reusable. just got annoying lol, felt like a QOL feature was added only to be limited anyway?
overall my favorite recent hack, so awesome to play through and satisfying as hell! excited to check out postgame and so on. people have made the obvious RR comparison, but this feels very different in how boss fights are designed and they play very differently as a result!

Pokémon Inclement Emerald: A Decomp Difficulty Hack [Version 1.13]

Not gonna lie, the game on Hard was really a challenge, it's been a while since i gave pokemon a try, ORAS was my last game i played since i got so disappointed in pokemon games but this, this made me think, play, grind, set my teams, and put my knowledge to the test and made me research pokemons released after ORAS and it was really enjoyable, thanks for letting us try this, there are a few bugs here and there and even after i made some stat calculation i don't know how some pokemons where faster than mines... but i overcame the struggles with walls haha,

Keep it up, very good job :)
