I think when we team up, we can only have 3 pokémon each, so it adds up to 6 with your partner's, or...something like that.

As long as it's online pokémon....I'm not going out, grabbing pokémon of Emerald with a speed run (I used to be able to do 16:32 exactly when I was 11), then somehow EVing them whilst still giving away all my pokémon (check trade corner if you want some:D)
