It came to me. (Insert Lavender town theme here)
Shellder is the first evolution of 2. Itself, and Cloyster.
Notice that in both evolutions, there is still a general picture of a shell in here.
In Cloyster, it is a large shell with a little, darkish, purple ball with large eyes in it.
Wait, a little, darkish, purple ball with large eyes? Doesnt that seem familiar?
    Gastly.
Apart from evolving, could it be that Shellder eats a Gastly and then evolves into Shellder?
Also could a dead Shellder bite a Slowpoke's head and becomes a Slowking, or bite its tail and becomes a Slowbro? All unanswered.
Theres a seperate theory that a Gastly is a dead Cloyster. When the poor Cloyster passes away, the little ball it has for a head carries into the afterlife and becomes a Gastly. However, this is inaccurate.
In cemetery towers around the region, they are full of Gastlys, there couldnt have been that many Cloysters out in the wild, could there? It would be hard to find Cloyster in the wild anyways, since it
    Evolves from a stone.
All in all, this is just a theory, so dont take all of this too seriously. I hope I entertained you guys, I'm out. Seeya!

Or maybe Shellder is a Shellder and a Gastly is a Gastly, MINDBLOWING.
Idk, I think he's just a clam in all honesty. The thought has never come to my head. I don't think you can call a theory inaccurate, it's called a theory for a reason.

I saw something like this connecting Cubone to Kangaskhan. Cubone's Pokedex description states that it wears the skull of its dead mother as a helmet. With the release of Kangaskhan's mega evolution in X and Y, people were speculating that Cubone was Kangaskhan's baby, and the Kangaskhan mother had passed away.

To be honest, I could see how certain Pokemon COULD be related to one another...

But I don't LIKE to think that they are. Cubone is Cubone, Gastly is Gastly...

You guys are straying from the topic of Shellder from the first post. Let's rename the thread a bit if you'll keep bringing up new theories instead of discussing the presented one :3

If the original poster disagrees, I can change the thread title back. Just message me.

Yeah, I know dude, its just a thought that came to my head. Its really unlikely that Shellder evolves like that, its just something interesting that I'd like to share with you guys. Thanks!
