Well, that just looks awful. Almost as if you saved it JPG and afterwards decided it was a "style". It's awful, and don't do it ever again.

It looks like JPG artifacts. If you want that efect done quickly, just resave the sprite in MS Paint and wham! "Box efect". I'm not sure when JPG artifacts became "cool", but it you want faux JPG atrifacts, than that's just on you. It still looks embarrassing.

EDIT: And .jpg artifacts clearly show a lack of effort and reduce the overall quality of ones work. There's nothing good about them.
