Back during its early days Pokemon was a game series which was actually "cool" or okay to like. It had fresh redeaming features, but now, it seems to be trying a bit hard. Much like another series... *cough* SONIC! *cough*. Now I've lost alot of respect for the series. Anyone disagree, or agree?

It's the other way around, bud. Sonic's trying too hard. Shadow the Hedgehog is a good example of the blandness in the series.

You see, Pokemon just keeps on getting better with newer features added on every next game. It was designed to continue with the same similar plot, same turn-based battles. Pokemon is what makes Nintendo a lot of money so therefore, Pokemon is good.

Only people insecure and people whom sell their selves to the crowd make fun of games like Pokemon. They can't form their own opinions so they have to be a bunch of mindless sheep and follow the majority. They know it's a fun game but they don't want to be laughed at so they pretend to hate it by going along with what non-original, casual gamers say. Unfortunately, you may not see what us retro gamers see, as there are only a few left. People nowadays only seek better graphics, guns and cheap thrills. Is that really mature? Is that what makes a game original? Inspirational? Epic? Memorable? No.

Pokemon is one of the best games out there, no matter what Nintendo does, it just wins.

Well, if you're referring to the anime, it's the worst representation of the Pokemon series. Even Satoshi Taijiri himself said so. The games are still going pretty strong with the introduction of Diamond and Pearl. Diamond and Pearl attracted a lot of new Pokemon fans. Most people look down at Pokemon because they haven't seen what Pokemon really is; they're judging upon the worst representation of the series (the anime). And automatically they won't give Pokemon a chance. It has grown to be more childish, but look at the games. The games are still going strong with complex values and hidden features. Sure the cute, furry creatures and the big, cartoony monsters detract from Pokemon's maturity level, but once you actually get familiar with some of the better aspects of Pokemon, it's actually pretty sweet.

Pokemon is now more popular than it had ever been after the release of Diamond and Pearl, and many suspect that Platinum is even going to go further and break DP's sales record. It's growing fast.

    He did? Interesting. Sources, please?

Well I don't really see that. Sure Nintendo is having a block right now but they won't have to worry about making any new Pokemon now. Nintendo seems fine with there new storyline. The new wifi feature is making it better. What would make Pokemon more cool is a Gold/Silver remake.

It has been said many, many times, there will be no G/S/C remake. The only reason that R/B were remade was so that you could Catch E'm All. Every Pokemon in G/S/C is obtainable via an event, or from R/S/E.

They are not trying too hard, in fact, I don't believe they are trying hard enough.

No proof of it being remade or not being remade. Leave it at that.

As for the 5th gen, I say bring it on, Nintendo.

I'm also interested when he said this. Most likely he never said this.

On topic: If the games were losing their value, then they wouldn't keep selling like hotcakes in a poor town. People just love the games and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. Just look at Diamond, Pearl, and soon-to-be Platinum.

NO acually pokemon is a great way of showing what a games supposed to be like. Alonmg with zelda. Retrp games brought into tocuh with todays needs=fail. Sonic for instance. Nintendo though keep it real and keep it same. No matte how many times mario collects 120 stars its still in another storyline styloe and another world no mater how many times link has to go and collect 3 pieces that unlock something involving time or what not and then getting another 4-6 other things that involves some kinda zelda saving its in a newer hyrule that is a bit familiar but is oh so different. Pokemon is the same way. Almost. Nintendo is expanding it through the anime and slowly puts some of those ideas into pokemon. Every generation expands ever so slightly. Either withba new trade sysyem or more depth to growing berries or contest depth or so on aso forth. My point?
Pokemon is as good as ever if you put the anime to the side.

The games, the merchandise, the fanbase- Thriving, and it looks like it'll stay that way for a long time.
The anime has definitely lost what it used to have, but a lot of shows end up that way. Or maybe the original fans have just grown up, and realised just how cheesy it actually was... Heh.

People who who used to like Pokemon but grew out of it probably think it's a laughing stock. But fans don't think so. Depends who you and ask and if non-fans opinions are more valid...

I would have to disagree with you there somewhat. I will admit, the pokemon introduced in D/P were not as good as earlier ones overall, but I wouldn't be quick to say that it "trying too hard"

Sonic on the other hand I do agree with you there, although I believe my decline in interest was basically due to the fact Sega stopped making console machines (I was an avid fan of the old Sega consoles in the past and only moved on to Nintendo after the failure of the Dreamcast)

Pokemon is still going strong, and it will keep going for a long time. The games keep getting better and better, and honestly, the anime isn't that bad.

They aint trying too hard, they are just running it like a business (obv) because it sells so well. Don't take offense in that.

I know Pokemon sells. From what i know of in the UK though the phenomenom has gone, whereas people just buy the games, like me. If it weren't for pokemon i wouldn't have gotten a GBC, GBA or DS.

Don't know what the anime's like but what i seen of say the first half of all of it it's the same old same old. It's completely gone from the mainstream channels, (ITV and sky one used to show it back in the day) now it's on cartoon/anime channels. Movies, if it weren't for the net i'd probably think they stopped making them at Pokemon 3.

The TCG is still around. You can still find them in Argos, Woolys newsagents etc. So that is obv still there. The reason i stopped it is the same for other hobbies, the cost and i/my friends lost interest. I still have a collection interest in the TCG, they are still going stupid cheap on Ebay. All other merchandise is DEAD.

The games sell the most i recon. The RPG's are still fundamentaly the same but it's still Pokemon. A clone of a Pokemon RPG would hardly work for me because you need the stupid pokemon we all love. All the spinoffs have never interested me, it's nice they are trying different ideas though but they never seem as good as the usual RPG's. The first/second gen spinoffs sounded awesome mind, Stadium, the photography one and the GB card game.

Wow that seems a lot. Basicaly Pokemon = business, same old same old, no phenomenom now, RPG's are probably all that's keeping it afloat.

I think that is simply the truth. Like i said i'll carry on buying the RPG's, maybe some older spinoffs, i'll buy some more cards and download *cough* the anime/movies.

Back to the core question i don't think it's a laughing stock. You can not like the company for what they are doing with it, spose you COULD laugh at someone who takes it really seriously, but not laugh much.

I say yes when it comes to the Anime.. Although the games are still ok, not as great as the first games where (i.e. Red, blue, yellow, gold, silver) but with all the new technology you would expect more game play options which I believe is what they (gamefreak) are going for..

Definitely not...Since the series is still going incredibly strong. I mean, sure, they're running out of ideas I think, but people still like the game.

If it weren't for pokemon i wouldn't have gotten a GBC, GBA or DS.
heck, I still HAVE my GBC just so I can play my Yellow/Gold versions!
I think the Anime, movies and merchandice have all gone downhill. In my opinion the Anime shows the worst side of Pokemon.
The RPGs and the manga however are still going strong. Each game ands new features and new Pokemon making it more interesting.
Sonic has definately lost some of it's luster.

I don't think Pokemon has tried too hard at all. It's done perfectly well for itself.

As stated earlier, Sonic is the series trying too hard. With its recent games, it's become a shadow of its former self. (Play on words...ha ha ha. :P)

But I think that Pokemon's newest applications and features are innovative, not desperate. :#
