There's a lot of odd things going on with this map ): there's no direction to it at all, no paths, and everything is so spaced out. There are areas where you could stand and see almost nothing but grass. ):

Alpha 1 will be out soon. Just wait a little bit longer. Or you are just patching it wrong and need to patch it a different way, also make sure you are using a 1.0 fire red ROM.
