1st Gen Pokemon Blue Walkthrough?

Okay. First time i've played it in years and i'm stuck.

I'm in between Lavender Town & Celadon City. I recently went into the Pokemon Tower only to remember i had to get the silph scope to reveal the marowak. I've gone down and fought all the fisherman only to find out i don't have the pokeflute to wake snorlax up so i'm headed West into Celadon City but i don't know whether to get the silph scope first or the pokeflute or do you have to get one of them to get the other?

So what's the next move i have to make?

You have to get past the marowak to advance. There are two options:

The first is to go to the game corner in Celadon City, talk to and beat the Rocket, then beat Giovanni in the hideout. That gets you the Sliph Scope.

The faster and easier option is to buy a Poke Doll from the Dept Store (Wiseman Gift floor I think), and use the Poke doll in the battle against Marowak.

After you save Mr. Fuji by beating the Rockets on the top floor of Pokemon Tower, he gives you the Poke Flute.
