Just don't forget, Charmander learns metal claw fairly early on in FR/LG.
Of course, if we're going with original Gen I terms, well then... We're screwed!

You don't need to battle NPCs to train. You can do that wherever. You'll be given an oppurtunity soon, and nearly all scenes dealing with your Pokemon are learning experiences for them.

Not exactly. I would think that randomly attacking inoccent woodland creatures would be illegal. I meant like in the anime, where they'd go through drills, or spar or something. Here are the pokemon's current stats.
