I've never done a contest. Ever. Are they worth the time and effort put into raising pokemon and feeding them pokeblocks (or poffins for 4th gen). How rewarding is winning a contest when compared to winning at the battle frontier? (which is what I'm into in-game)

In my opinion, they're fun and challenging in RSE, and completely awful in DPPt. If you're playing RSE, grab some Pokeblocks and have fun.

I agree. Pokeblocks are fairly simple, and in RSE, you just need to come up with combos that beat other combos, with a backup move, i.e. Quick Attack+Shock Wave is a brilliant one. And the fact that there's ony one judge makes it simple.

Just don't do D/P/Pt ones, they put you off it forever

I only did the ones in Platinum for the sake of completion. Dressing them up always results in something sloppy and goofy looking due to the absurd time constraint, and the dancing aspect is just plain stupid. Plus, they took away the combo system as well as the ability to mess with the other competitors and just made things more complicated instead of fun.

R/S/E's Contests weren't my favorite pastime, but compared to the ones in D/P/Pt... heck, they even inspired my friend to write a fan fiction on the absurdity and frustration of 4th gen contests.

Gen III ones were way too easy. But for Gen IV, although much harder, have a terrible move round, everything does the same thing.

I only really did Gen IV contests to get an extra star on my Trainer Card. Eventually I'll have to go beat all the other categories too, for completion.

I think they're fun in RSE, tolerable in DPPt. I heard something once about how if you get a Claydol with a certain move you can pretty much win every category contest effortlessly, if you want to do it that way, but I forgot exactly how it goes. o.0

I think I put some effort into contests in RSE and it wasn't too bad. I've only done one contest in DPPt and didn't really like it. Contests aren't a part of the game I've ever found important.

well i completely fell in love with the contests in RSE
they were a fun think to do in the games and the pokeblocks were pretty cool

but the contests in DPPt were just too complicated. the dance portion got on my nerves, and i only liked the 1 judge concept that was in RSE but they added 2 more judges in the 4th generation

Go for the RSE version, it's fun and interesting. The DppT version in my opion, is a complete train wreck, with one part that you really like, one part that is meh, and the middle part that's absolutely atrocious! (I'm looking at you, dancing competition!)

    Here's a RSE combo I remember:

Sludge, then Sludge Bomb. That combo won my Gulpin Hyper Rank! Ah happy days, happy days.
