** Can I reserve Bulbasaur **

You arrive onto the island after a long and exhausting boat ride from Rhode Island, USA. As you step onto the island you get this feeling of nostalgia as if the pokemon games just came across as a breeze and flew past your face.

You than look around and notice that the other 49 random trainers invited to the island are also with you. As you look up in front you also see a man in a lab coat standing on a rock waiting for everyone to give him his attention.

"EXCUSE ME!" the man yells as each person hurridely quites up and listens. "My name is Dr. Cheung Fung and I am the top researcher of pokemon known to man. Each of you have been invited here randomly and as far as we know everyone that was invited, RSVP'ed. Therefore I would like you to follow me over to the lab in which each of you will be given a Pokemon , 5 pokeballs, and a pokedex." the man in the lab coat says as he walks over to a desk and grabs a bunch of objects.

Individually the man calls you over to his cart and gives you your necessary objects. You each have your own conversation with Dr. Fung and than head out on your journeys.

Post = 1
Things to do in this post.
1. Talk about what you did prior to getting on the boat, and discuss what you experience on the boat.

2. When you reach the island, talk about how you feel about your new surroundings and this random Dr. Fung who appears before you.

3. You enter the lab with the professor and recieve your own pokemon. Talk about what you and the professor discussed and how you feel about the pokemon you were given.

4. You now have your pokemon and are ready to become a pokemon master. How do you feel about everything that is put in front of you at this momet

The cab pulled up to the arrivals exit of JFK International. Alex had just gotten off his flight and could feel the butterflies rumbling in the pit of his stomach every few minutes, he didn't show it - but he was secretly excited about this. On the flight over he spent a lot of time thinking about what his mother might say, or if his father would be proud of his decision.

He felt unsure of both thoughts but rationalized that it was just his lack of confidence in his ability to succeed at something so unknown to him. Sure all the other contestants probably knew everything there is to know about Pokémon and here he was, barely able to tell a Pokéball from a Pokédex...

He got into the cab and asked to be brought to the docks in Rhode Island, handing the Cabbie a credit note from Nintendo in lieu of his fare.

Watching the passing cars and sky high buildings, Alex nodded off to sleep...his dream was quite a peculiar one indeed;

He was standing on a hill with the Ocean all around him, completley alone...then from behind him a great shadow rose and covered him and soon everything in sight....
He grabbed a Pokéball from his pocket, and threw it at the ground, a flash of great red light burst out forming into a woman, one very familar to him...looking harder, his focus adjusted and it was his Mother.

He only felt sadness and confusion, she started to run further and faster the more he tried to follow...He picked up the Pokéball and threw it.....

"This is it kid, your stop", opening his eyes, in a daze he glanced around

"Thanks" and he handed the Cabbie a $5 bill..

Stepping out of the car, his mind was caught between the large Yatch infront of him, and the confusion of his dream...what was it about, he hadn't dreamt of his mother in over 5 years - and why was she inside a Pokéball.....he did miss his mother though,
every day...she was his best friend, something he never had many of.

"ALL ABOARD WHOS GOIN' ABOARD!!"

Gah!! He ran pulling his suitcase over his shoulder, his satchel bouncing off his knee, he ran up the gang way waving his pass in the Boardman's face, afraid he would miss the boat.

*********************

He had decided to settle down for a bit of rest, he was quite jet lagged and he figured he'd need a good rest before arriving at the Island.

He woke up several hours later - leaving his room he peaked down each way of the corridor before leaving his room.

He was starving now as he forgot to eat before he left. Walking down the steps onto the Starboard deck, he found his way to the Stern of the Yatch where two girls around his age were chatting.

He approached them, feeling a bit awkward, but smiling non-the-less;

"Hey guys, em, you don't know were I could grab a bit of food do ye?" he asked, feeling a bit silly for sleeping so much and missing meal time.

They didn't appear to notice him or maybe just the sound of the waves and the crash of the wake drowned out his embarrassing attempt at conversation...

He stood there for a moment - maybe they would notice him and start talking but no response...He turned to be faced with double doors with a paper notice reading "Meal Room"...he felt a bit stupid now...

He walked through and there were a few people sitting talking, having some hot drinks and sandwiches, others just reading.

He approached the canteen and asked for a coffee and ham sandwhich which he to take a seat and he it would be brought over..

He looked around trying to decide whether to sit alone or to try join one of the small groups talking, his reasoning they must have met here, they were all chosen at random...so it would be fine he figured.

"Hi, I'm Alex, mind if I sit with you guys?"

"Of course not, take a seat" spoke on of the guys.

"I'm Andy, this is Tina, Gemma and Paul!" - they all said "Hey" in sync with eachother- laughing about it afterwards.

"So where you from?" asked Gemma,

"Ireland - what about you guys?" replied Alex...

They chatted for the majority of the evening. Alex admitted he knew next to nothing about Pokémon and they all joined in giving him the run through what they were and all about the games. The were talking for atleast 3 hours before the Captin called over the intercom that the ship was about to Dock.

After getting ashore they were brought to a large compound with a large amount of seats around five large tables with rows of what appeared to be Pokéballs all shining in the lights above them.

Right now he was feeling the buzz of enthusiasm in the air.

"Everyone take a seat, I'd like to start as soon as possible" he heard over the speakers... In the center of the room there was an Asian man in a lab coat.

He took a seat and soon after everyone had gotten a seat.
Looking around he saw a lot of faces old and young, some looking impatient, others half a sleep, some grinning and smiling and plenty of girls squeeling and eeking to their new "best friends" about the whole thing.

He also took note of who was his main competition, pegging atleast 8 others there who had what seemed to be the right determination and motivation to actually get to the top. This was one area his skills came in handy, reading people...assessing potential, motivation, drive to win, personality traits....people skills he calls them.

"Hello, and welcome to Pokémon Island, I am Dr.Fung,..." began then man in center of the room.

He spoke for a good solid two hours, telling them all of their mission and goal, the paths they could take and what is takes to become a Pokémon Trainer and what only one of them possessed - what it took to become a Pokémon Master.

Afterwards, everyone had chosen their Pokémon, Alex chose a Bulbasaur, a grass type Pokémon. He thought it looked weird and odd...which he loved. Different was unique to him. He saw several other Pokémon - one breed had a small glowing flame on the tip of its tail, it was an orange lizard like creature.

Another was turtle like, but it was blue and walked on its hind legs. It also had a large fluffy tail which seemed odd for a turtle but considering what Pokémon could do - it was the least of the weirdness...

He then looked at his own Pokémon, Bulbasaur...he felt a bit odd with this creature at his side, he sat down putting his hand out to give it a rub on the head. It reminded him of a small green dog. He had a large flower bulb on its back which seemed quite odd but again the least of it....

"Bulba....saaaaurrr" it growled while he gave it a rub on his head...Alex chuckled...this was really weird ...

"Ah you seem to be getting on well with your Pokémon...have you chosen a name for him?" Alex looked up and saw an elderly man, the man in the lab coat who spoke earlier...mr...mr....ah Mr.Fung,,,

"Thank you Mr.Fung for giving me Bulbasaur" alex said, his throat going dry with awkardness....

"Ah don't worry about it, this little guy will become your best friend, in no time!"
"Are you looking forward to training him?" he asked with a light smile,

"Eh yeah of course, I'm really excited" he said hiding his uncertainty to exactly what he was supposed to do...he figured he could find out later on....

"Most excellent, I think I have something belong to you" and he handed him a small red palm computer-like device..."It is your Pokédex, you left it at the pulpit when you were choosing your Pokémon"

"Ahhhh I had completley forgotten!" reaching out to take it - "Be more careful Alex, you will need to be more responsible if you are to become a Pokémon Master" he spoke with a hint of a smile....

"Well I must go now Alex, I have plenty of other trainers to speak to " and with an up and down of his hand, a brief wave of his hand and he was off...

"So...what now buddy?" he looked down at Bulbasaur, who just looked back with what Alex could only make out as a smile!

Dan grinned, as he leant against the boats railing and felt the wind rush through his hair. He had never been on a boat before, and was thoroughly enjoying the experience. Leaning out over the railings, he looked down into the ocean below. In the water he could see groups of fish swimming below him, their bright colours seemingly exaggerated by the crystal blue ocean. Having never seen the ocean this close up, Dan was captivated by its majesty.

"Hey kid, get down from there!" came a voice from behind Dan.

Glancing behind him, Dan saw a plump sailor running towards him with an angry look on his face. With one last longing glance at the ocean below, Dan hopped down from the railing back onto the deck.

"Don't you know how dangerous that is kid?" asked the sailor, as he finally reached Dan.

"Sorry," Dan muttered in reply as he brushed past the sailor.

Wondering back onto the ship's deck, Dan saw the rest of the trainers milling about on the boat. Dan sighed as he began to think about his upcoming journey. He had played pokémon games as a kid, but wasn't sure how well that experience would transfer to real life pokémon training. All of a sudden, his trail of thought was cut off by the ship's horn going off.

'We're here already?' thought Dan, as he ran to the edge of the boat.

Leaning out over the railings, he caught his first glimpse of the Island. It was much bigger than Dan had expected, and he was surprised that it hadn't been discovered earlier than just two years ago. Looking around he could see the excitement levels rising, with all of the trainers pushing towards the front of the boat and straining to get a good view.

As the boat docked there was a mad dash for the ramp, as all of the trainers tried to be the first to set foot on this mysterious Island. In the stampede, Dan was knocked from his feet. Picking himself up, Dan joined the crows leaving the boat. He couldn't help but smile, as all of the memories of playing pokémon games as a child flooded through him. He could only hope that the real experience would be as enjoyable. As the crowd gathered in front of a stage, a man in a white lab coat stepped forward and took the microphone.

"Excuse Me!" he yelled, trying to get the crowd's attention. He paused, waiting for the chatter to stop before he continued. "My name is Dr. Cheung Fung and I am the top pokémon researcher known to man. Each of you have been invited to this Island randomly, and as far as we know everyone who was invited has RSVP'd. Therefore I would like you to follow me over to the lab in which you will each be given your starter pokémon, as well as a pokédex and 5 pokéballs."

With that, he jumped off of the podium and led the crowd towards his lab. After a short walk, they reached the lab and the steward's job of forming an orderly queue began in earnest. After about ten minutes of pushing and shoving an orderly queue was finally formed, and the first prospective trainer entered the lab. Dan had managed to move himself quite near to the front of the queue, with only a dozen or so people ahead of him. As he stood in the queue waiting, he could feel the excitement bubbling up inside him. His excitement rose with each person that entered the lab, and soon enough he found himself at the front of the queue waiting to be called through.

"Next," called one of the stewards, motioning Dan through the door.

Dan took a deep breath to compose himself, before making his way inside. The lab was much smaller than Dan had imagined, and the only person in the lab was the man who had given the speech earlier.

"Yes, come in, come in," said the Professor enthusiastically, as Dan slowly walked over, "So what's your name?"

"I'm Dan," Dan replied nervously.

"And why did you choose to accept your invitation to become a pokémon trainer Dan?" asked the Professor.

Dan thought for a moment, before replying, "Well I guess, I hoped that during my journey I would learn something about myself."

"Good answer, good answer," said Mr. Fung, as he grabbed one of the pokéballs off of the table, "I think this pokémon would be a good match for you Dan. It's a Nidoran, the male species."

Dan smiled. A Nidoran... that was a good solid starter pokémon and Nidoking could prove to be a powerhouse when it evolved! Thanking the Professor, he took Nidoran's pokéball. The Professor then handed him a pokédex and 5 pokéballs. After a short explanation of how each worked, Dan was shown out of the lab and led to the beginning of the first route. Dan took a deep breath and smiled. Now that he had his first pokémon, his adventure would really begin!

Ian was laying on his back at the moment peering up through the trees and the to see the sun shinning down through, it was a nice sight. Although Ian was starting to have his doubts that they were even on a real island with everything that has happened.

"For all we know on the boat ride over the knocked us all unconscious and strapped us to a virtual reality game" Ian said to himself as he slowly stood up. "I guess I should probably get back on track if I want to make it to this gym before nightfall.

Ian hated the night, one reason was because it got colder out, the second reason was because well of course it was dark and you couldn't exactly see everything around especially in a dense tropical forest like this.

"Ugh the suns starting to go down, ah i've got it!" Ian said and with that he unclipped Blaze's pokeball from his belt and released him.

"Char!" Blaze said glad to be out of his pokeball.

"I knew it would work!" Ian said as there was now more light around him do to Blaze's tail fire. The two of them began to keep walking for what seemed like hours on end until Ian felt a jolt go up his back and fell to one knee in pain.

"AHHHH" Ian screamed as Blaze turned around and found the culprit. It was a yellow little mouse that was already looked to have been beaten pretty badly. Ian turned around and pulled out his pokedex.

"Pikachu, the electric mouse pokemon, it can concentrate high levels of electricity at one target" the pokedex read aloud.

"Hmm a pikachu huh? That would be a great addition to our team don't you think Blaze?" Ian said asking Blaze who was already in battle postion.

"Char!!!" Blaze roared outloud, Blaze seemed to be angry that Pikachu hurt it's trainer.

"Ok then Blaze charge in and use ember!" Ian shouted as Blaze ran in and cocked it's back spewing flames at the wild pikachu who barley darted away in time as it moved real slow then fell to one knee. Something was wrong with this pikachu.

"Pika! Pika! Chu!" it shouted pointing to an area behind a tree as Ian realized it shocked him trying to grab Ian's attention so he would help. Blaze on the other hand did not realize this and started using scractch on the downed Pikachu.

"Blaze stop!!!" Ian shouted as he returned him to his pokeball and ran over to the tiny pikachu. "Are you ok little guy?" Ian asked picking him up into his arms as the Pikachu smiled and then began pointing behind that same tree again. When Ian finally made his way over there what he saw was another Pikachu begin sprayed with some kind of powder by a pokemon with mushrooms growing on it's back. Ian whipped out his pokedex once more.

"Paras, the mushroom insect pokemon, watch out for it's stun powder" the pokedex read aloud again as an angry look came across Ian's face. He hated people who bullied other kids, let alone this.

"Don't worry Pikachu i'll help your friend" Ian said and with that he unclipped Blaze's pokeball again and released him once more. "Blaze ember on that Paras now!" Ian ordered in rage as Blaze cocked it's head back once more and began spewing flames all over the paras who caught on fire and began running away.

"Char!" Blaze shouted in anger this wasn't over yet.

"Blaze don't let that bully get away chase it down and use scratch!" Ian shouted as Blaze sprinted after the slow moving pokemon and then pounced on it's back tackling it to the ground and then started scratching away at it till it fainted.

"Good job Blaze that Paras deserved the same fate it wanted for these Pikachus. Ian then pulled out a potion from his bag and sprayed it on the Pikachu in his hands and the one on the ground.

"Well your free to go now Pikachu" Ian said letting it out of his arms realizing it would be better for him to stay with his friend. And with that Blaze and Ian started walking away. Before Ian suddenly felt another jolt go up his spine this time though a grin came to his face. As him and Blaze turned around Ian knew that Pikachu wanted to go with them but only if Ian beat him in a battle.

"Alright Blaze this ones all you! Use scratch!" Ian shouted as Blaze sprinted in towards the pikachu and then dove at it with his claws but Pikachu sprinted away to fast and then turned to Blaze who landed face first on the ground.

"PIKACHU!" Pikachu shouted as a thundershock attack rained from it's body straight for Blaze.

"Blaze dodge and use ember!" Ian shouted as Blaze swiftly dove underneath the attack and then jumped up blasting flames at the surprised pikachu hitting it directly.

"Char!" Blaze shouted as Ian grabbed a pokeball from his bag and chucked it at the pikachu who was slowly trying to get to his feet.

"Good job Blaze!" Ian said as the two of them anxiously awaited to see if Pikachu would fight any longer or if it would happily come with Ian. Ether way Ian was happy to have been able to help someone out and he may have gotten a new ally for it.

The ball continued to roll back and forth.

SacredBeo - Nice post, I really enjoyed how Ian felt about bulleys. Ian caught a level 7 Pikachu. And Blaze grew to level 10.

Chapter 3 (Part 2): A Bump in the Road!

Reni and Nidoran slowed down after a while of running through the badly lit tunnels. "Good job Nidoran!" she said, checking them to make sure they were ok. " I think you need a rest. Return!" She smiled as she sent Nidoran into it's ball. She had always wanted to say that! After the light had faded, she continued on her way. The path continued for about fifteen more minutes before it came to what looked like the exit opening in the wall. She could finally get out of this cold, drab cave and earn her first badge! That is, if it wasn't blocked by massive, impenetrable looking boulders.

She sighed. "Everything comes with a string attatched, doesn't it?" she quipped. "I'll have to get one of my Pokemon to help me move these. Let's see... I haven't really used Sandshrew yet." She pulled the ball off of her belt and released Sandshrew, who waddled over to her. "Shrew!" it said, greeting her. "Ok, let's see now. Sandshrew, try using Tackle on the boulders!" she commanded. Sandshrew charged at the impassable wall, lowering it's head. SMACK! Sandshrew collided with the rocks and went flying backwards, landing on it's butt. It cried in pain and Reni saw a tear in it's eye.

"It's ok Sandshrew! I'm sorry, that was pretty stupid of me. I have an idea," she said as she patted it on the head, "Why don't you tunnel under the rocks and see what's on the other side? Maybe there's someone who can help you!" Sandshrew nodded and disappeared underground. Reni waited in the cave's darkness. It was pretty creepy, sitting on her own with the occaisional echoing cry in the background. Just when she considered sticking her head in the hole and yelling for Sandshrew to come back, it appeared and ran towards her.

"Sand! Sandshrewewew!" it yelled, waving it's arms back and forth. What had put it in such a panic?

"Sandshrew, what's wrong?" asked Reni. BOOM. Reni looked around. It had come from behind the boulder. BOOM. There it was again, louder this time. Reni began to back away from the boulders. BOOM The boulders jolted and Reni picked up Sandshrew and hid behind the corner. There was an earth moving sound as Reni saw a lot of dust, small stones, and a few of the boulders fly past and hit the wall where they were just standing.

Reni was petrefied. Was it a huge, bulking, massive Pokemon that wanted to eat her? A Dragonite? A Kangaskhan? A Machamp? She didn't want to stick her head around the corner, where she could hear deep, heavy panting, so she stuck her Pokedex around the corner instead. After a few seconds, it beeped and she pulled it back around.

RHYHORN, THE SPIKE POKEMON. RHYHORN IS KNOWN FOR ITS PHYSICAL POWER AND ITS CONSIDERABLE OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE SKILLS.

Oh, thank god, it was just a Rhyhorn. Reni reflected about this creature in the game. Apparently they were pretty stupid. Common and easy to take care of, she thought. But that was in the game. Bravely, Reni stepped out and faced the new opponent. In real life, the Rhyhorn looked like it was covered in a grey leather that blended with the rock. It's muscles rippled beneath the skin, making it look even more menacing. It was angry. And it was looking at her.

It roared at her and charged at her with a Horn Attack. Reni yelled and threw herself out of the way, collapsing against the wall. The Ryhorn barreled past and stopped just before it hit the wall. It stayed there for a moment, daftly looking around for it's missing opponent while Reni picked herself up. Maybe she could use it's stupidity to her advantage.

"Ok, Sandshrew!" she yelled as the little Pokemon jumped to her side. "Use Scratch while it's not looking!" Sandshrew ran at the Pokemon, who happened to turn around. Noticing the oncoming attack, it raised it's massive foot and brought it down on top of Sandshrew, crushing it. When it raised it's foot again, the little Pokemon twitched and slowly got up. But while it was trying, the Rhyhorn's horn glowed red and it repeatedly stabbed Sandshrew with it's horn. Sandshrew went flying back and landed next to Reni.

"Sandshrew! Are you ok?" Reni ran over and picked it up. It's eyes opened and, miraculously, it struggled and hopped out of her arms onto the floor with a determined 'Shrew!'. "Oh, thank god!" Reni cried. "You won't survive another beating like that. Use Defence Curl!" A green glow surrounded Sandshrew as it gained defensive power. The Spike Pokemon started to charge again.

"Sandshrew, jump over it and Scratch it from behind!" Reni yelled. Sandshrew leaped over the Rhyhorn as it barreled past and used a Scratch attack. The Rhyhorn barely felt a thing. It kept on running until nearly collided with the wall, barely keeping from smashing into it. Reni suddenly remembered the Diglett she had fought before, and an idea formed in her head.

"Quick Sandshrew, stand in front of that wall!" Reni pointed to the wall at the end of the passage. Sandshrew ran to the spot and stood there, unmoving. The Rhyhorn finally recovered and turned around, once again charging with a Horn Attack. "Don't move!" Reni told Sandshrew. It gave a nervous 'Sand!' and stood bravely in the face of danger. The Rhyhorn was just about upon it.

"Jump Sandshrew, now!" Reni yelled, and Sandshrew leapt over the Rhyhorn as it charged at full speed straight into the wall. There was a loud crash and a cloud of smoke engulfed the spot where the Rhyhorn was. When it cleared, they saw it slumped on the ground, unconcious, knocked out by its own attack.

"Great work Sandshrew! Let's go, before it wakes up." Reni sucked Sandshrew back into it's ball and walked into the unblocked opening, leaving the Rhyhorn to it's peacful sleep.

PerfectMonster - Awesome post! I liked how you related on the game compared to the real experience. Sandshrew grew to level 10! Sandshrew learned poison sting!

After walking a short distance, Dan reached a junction in the road. Above the junction, a banner was hung between two trees:

"All Trainers must either head West or East on the island for their first gym matches. No one is permitted to head North or South until you have both the West and East badges. Good Luck!"

Looking to the East, Dan could just about make out a Forest in the distance. Not wanting to travel through a Forest with just his starter pokémon, Dan decided that heading west would be the best idea. With his mind made up, he hitched his bag higher on his shoulder and began walking down the path leading to the West.

After a short while, Dan heard the noise of rushing water. Following the sound, he quickly located a large River. 'A lot of towns are built around Rivers,' thought Dan, 'Maybe this River will lead to the town the first Gym's located in!'.

As Dan made his way along the River bank, he couldn't help but notice that the sound of rushing water was getting louder and louder. After about ten minutes, it was positively deafening. As he rounded the next corner, Dan found out why. He found himself standing on the edge of a steep cliff, down which a powerful Waterfall cascaded. As he admired the sheer power of the Waterfall, Dan heard a noise from behind him. Spinning around to locate the noise, he found himself face to face with a hooded figure.

"Hello," said the man simply, before giving Dan a hard shove that knocked him off of the cliff.

Looking down, Dan saw the water below racing up to meet him. In an act of desperation, Dan tried to straighten his body and land feet first in order to minimise the impact. As he hit the water, Dan felt a sharp pain in his left leg. Letting out a cry of pain, Dan felt the air rush out of his lungs as he plunged into the depths of the River. Panicking Dan tried to swim back to the surface, but already his body felt heavy and vision was becoming blurred....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dan groaned as he awoke, feeling strangely disorientated. Looking around, he realised that he had woken up on the bank at the base of the waterfall. Looking to the top of the cliff, Dan saw that it was deserted. Clearly whoever had pushed him was long gone. Dan tried to stand up, but he felt a sharp pain whenever he put weight on his left leg. Hopping over to a nearby tree, Dan snapped of one of lower branches to use as a makeshift crutch until he reached the next town.

After being pushed off of a cliff, Dan was feeling highly uneasy. He certainly couldn't remember anything like that happening in any of the games. With his bad ankle he felt exposed. Then he remembered his new pokémon. With its large ears, Nidoran would be able to hear any attackers much earlier than Dan would! Unclipping a pokéball from his belt Dan released Nidoran. With a flash a small rabbit-like pokémon was released from the pokéball. The pokémon was purple in colour with large ears, whiskers and front teeth, as well as a horn located on its forehead.

"Ni?" said the small pokémon as he looked up at his new trainer.

"Hello Nidoran," said Dan softly, "My names Dan, and I'm your new trainer. I just want you to walk along with me, and be alert for anything that could attack us."

Nidoran nodded, signalling that he was happy to walk along with his trainer. Dan smiled and thanked his new pokémon, before limping towards a nearby sign. Hopefully the sign would be able to direct him to this Western route he was looking for.

"Welcome to the West Route!"

Dan smiled; finally something was going his way. The smile quickly disappeared however, as a sharp pain rushed through his left leg. He needed to get to the next town as quickly as possible to get his leg looked at...

"Right let's go boy," he said to Nidoran, as he began limping along the West Route.

After following the West route for a short while, Dan came to a narrow pass. Unfortunately the pass was blocked by what looked like a yellow duck. The pokémon was just sitting there, seemingly amused by the passing River. Normally Dan would have shimmied around the pokémon, but with his leg that would be impossible. Nidoran looked up at his trainer, seemingly asking if he should battle the obstructing pokémon. Dan shook his head, before limping closer to the pokémon; which he recognised as a Psyduck.

"Excuse me, I need to get past," he said firmly to the Psyduck.

Instead of moving, the wild pokémon just looked up at Dan with a blank look on its face. "Psy?" it said, tilting its head to one side.

"Look I've hurt my leg, I need to get past," Dan explained, motioning to his injured left leg. However, once again the Psyduck stayed put.

"Get out of the way!" screamed Dan, growing frustrated now, but again the Psyduck just gave him the same blank look.

"Fine," Dan sighed, "Looks like we're going to have to move Psyduck out of the way Nidoran."

"Ni!" said Nidoran energetically, as he took up a battle stance in front of his trainer. However, Nidoran seemed to falter when the wild Psyduck didn't follow suit.

"Don't worry Nidoran," said Dan encouragingly, seeming to notice this, "Start with a Peck attack!"

Nidoran ran forward, the horn on his forehead pointed towards the wild Psyduck... who still seemed completely oblivious to the fact it was involved in a battle. Nidorans horn slamming into its side seemed to finally get Psyducks attention however.

"Duck," said the wild pokémon, as it slowly got back to its feet.

Dan looked on, waiting to see how the wild Psyduck would react to being attacked. He didn't have to wait long, as Psyduck moved closer to Nidoran and began wagging its tail cutely.

"Trying to reduce our defence?" muttered Dan, "Well two can play at that game! Nidoran use Leer!"

Nidoran gave Psyduck a sharp look, which caused the duck pokémon to take a step backwards in fear.

"Good, now follow up with another Peck!" ordered Dan.

Once again, Nidoran buried his horn into the side of the wild Psyduck and knocked it to the ground. Psyduck struggled slowly back to its feet, and gave Nidoran a stern look. Dan waited to see how the wild pokémon would retaliate to Nidorans attacks. A deep intake of breath caused Dan to think that the wild Psyduck was going to launch a Water Gun attack, but before he could issue a counter order Psyduck simply let a stream of water trickle over itself.

"A Water Sport? Really?" asked Dan disappointedly, "Nidoran lets finish this with another Peck!"

Nidoran once again slammed his horn into the wild pokémon, and knocked Psyduck to the ground. This time however, Psyduck didn't struggle back to its feet and just lay motionless.

"Good job Nidoran," congratulated Dan, as he limped past the fainted wild pokémon and continued towards the next town....

Slls81 - Good post, and I like how Dan actually got hurt from the fall to. Nidoran grew to level 7 and learned Focus Energy.

Chapter 2
Reach for the East or bet for the West?

For those of you who chose to go West
(Also 2 post)
Post 1
You begin heading West to your First Gym battle, when you spot a huge river running West also. You decide that maybe this River would lead you right to the gym leader and so you begin to follow it. You start noticing that the river gets wider and faster and you hear a rumbling sound up ahead, but you think nothing of it. As you come out of some brush the rumbling noise gets louder and you see that the end of the river is actually a very steep waterfall.

You decide to turn around and maybe head a different way for the gym, but something is behind you. "Hello" a hooded man says, as he pushes you off the cliff and you go falling to the bottom. You either close your eyes and hope you live, or you use your pokemon and try to think up something clever.

No matter what though, you wake up on the shore beside the waterfall and wonder how you got there. You look up to see if the hooded man is still up top, but you see nothing. As you stand up you see a sign that says, "Welcome to the West Route!", and you laugh that your actually still on the right path and so you continue.

After leaving the Lab, Alex took in a breath of fresh sea air, looking at his Pokéball, it was so interesting to him how a creature, is converted into pure energy and stored within this small device. He wondered what it must be like inside there, does the Pokémon just feel like its asleep? He pondered this as he strolled down the path, tossing the ball from one hand to the other until he walked into a post, slightly off the current path.

"Owh ugh" as he stumbled back, the Pokéball falling from his hands bounced and flash of red , forming into the silhouette of Bulbasaur and then materializing. Out of Bulbasaur's large, green bud on its back, two long, thick vines extended toward Alex, lifting him to his feet again and dusting him off, Alex looked at the amused Bulbasaur with a slight feeling of warmth between them.

"I guess you don't like being inside this thing?" and on Bulbasaur's cue to reply, he just bound around like a small chubby lamb as if singing "Bulba - Bulba - bulba-SAUR"

"I take that as a no then?" and with that he miniturized the Pokéball and threw it into his back pack.

Alex then looked up to see what he had bumped into and saw the sign which told him to go either West or East to get his first Gym badge.

"What do you think Bulbasaur? Left or Right?" and with that Bulbasaur started to trot off to the left ( West).

--------------------------------

After walking for some time they had moved just off the path onto the grassy, woodland running along side it. Alex was looking at the Pokédex device, curious as to how it worked? He had remembered that the professor had said,

"Simply point the small laser pointer at the Pokémon you wish to identify, and press Scan"

So he pointed it at Bulbasaur and pressed 'Scan' and it jumped to life!

[S-HIGHLIGHT]
Bulbasaur,

Bulbasaur is a reptilian creature that somewhat resembles a toad or a young dinosaur with a spotted blue-green hide. Its eyes are a bright red, but the most notable feature of this Pokémon is the onion-like bulb on its back. This bulb has a symbiotic relationship with the Pokémon, growing from a seed planted on its back by its mother at birth. Unlike the parasitic Tochukaso mushrooms growing on the back of Paras, which eventually take over its body as it evolves into Parasect, Bulbasaur's bulb shares a symbiotic relationship beneficial for both. This allows Bulbasaur to get an enhanced boost of energy from the sun during the day and the bulb to remain growing and strong at night. The bulb also contains many seeds, from which it draws nutrients. Though they usually walk on four legs, a Bulbasaur can rise up on its hind legs if it is young. Through evolution, it loses this ability, as the bulb grows far too
heavy for it to support the weight. This, in turn, causes Bulbasaur's later evolutions to lose speed. [/S-HIGHLIGHT]#

It then showed a picture of a Bulbasaur and had a menu displaying several options:

Alex was about to read more but noticed Bulbasaur trotting off into some bushes...

"Hey wait - were you goin dude?" he said as he followed after, letting his Pokédex fall from his hand to his pocket.

"Bulba- WOW" Alex came out from the bushes to see Bulbasaur standing on a stoney point, looking out over a large waterfall. Alex walked up to Bulbasaur - "What is it dude, you like the view?" Bulbasaur's vine grew from its back again, pointing into the Horizon..."Ah a shortcut!" Alex figured ! Giving Bulbasaur a pat on the head, SNAP-Alex and Bulbasaur turned to see an elderly man with a Hood on his head..."Hello" said the old man, suddenly thrusting his hands out at Alex, pushing him from atop the water fall.. Bulbasaur snapped into action - sending two vines down to grab Allex before he plummeted into the rocky water below...Alex looked up seeing Bulbasaur Peering over the edge with the two vines extending all the way down, Alex suspended around 6ft above the surface - Bulbasaur lowered him to the waters edge....
Then just as Alex touched down - Bulbasaur flying out over the edge

"SAUUUUUUUR" his voice echoed down the valley as the small Pokémon fell through the air...Alex quickly threw a Pokéball up towards where he was falling...missing him the ball disappeared into the crashing waterfall...Bulbasaur not far behind it..

"Oh S**t!!" Alex dived into the river - swiming against the current he saw a black blur in the distance underwater 'Bulbasaur?!' he thought. Orientating himself to intercept it , at speed it hit him in the chest....everything faded to black....

What seemed like seconds later - he awoke on the shore not far from the waterfall...**Cough Cough** he was wet but drying up.. Looking around he saw Bulbasaur lying on the ground, appeared to be snoozing...

"Hey buddy you alright?" he scooted closer to him, kneeling down and giving him a pat on the head, Alex's chest was pretty sore, it felt like he may have a cracked rib or two...but it was alrite enough to walk - it was just pretty sore.

"Saur?" Bulbasaur lifted his head, opening his eyes and smiled. He gave him another pat on the head and turned to look back at the top of the waterfall, "Who was that guy who pushed us? What a jack ass!" Bulbasaur looked as if he was agreeing with Alex and then turned his head to point in the opposite direction. "Ah is that the Town were heading to?!" It must be - he figured and they both got up to start walking...Alex was pretty proud of his new friend, he saved his life - twice as it seems! This is the start of a great friendship and a life long bond.

They were walking along the river side and just out of the corner of Alex's eye - he spotted some movement...Like a flash of light - or a bullet - a large spinning object came flying from below the water - smashing right into Bulbasaur.

Alex whipped out his Pokédex and scanned the creature..

[S-HIGHLIGHT]Staryu is a sea star-like Pokémon. Its main body is a tan color with a gold formation at the center of its front. At the very center of its body is an exterior organ that resembles a red jewel called the core. There is a gold loop around its bottom-left point.
If a Staryu loses any of its appendages it can grow them back with ease provided the core is still fully intact. From its top point it can water and bubbles to defend itself and use in battle. Staryu can adapt its skin in multiple ways including changing its color, hardening the surface of its body, even reducing its mass.
Its core can be used to reflect and refract light and energy. This grants it the power to use moves like Power Gem and Light Screen.
[/S-HIGHLIGHT]

It was standing on a large stone beside the water. It just looked like a giant starfish with a large Gem in its center....it glowed powerfully with a strong red glow...."Hyaaa" a synthesised sound came from it as it stood, water running off it...Bulbasaur hopped to his feet and took stance....

Uhoh...ehhhh..."Bulbasaur...attack?!" Bulbasaur let out a growl as he leapt toward the Pokémon. He bashed into it knocking it from the rock. Bulbasaur stood on top, peering down at the downed Pokémon growling - again it flew up - spinning and cracked Bulbasaur in the face sending him crashing to the ground.

"Come on dude - get up and hit that thing with your vines!" he shouted - those vines must do some pretty big damage he figured...

"Restraint it and then bash it against the Rock!!"

The Pokémon dodged the first attempt to be grabbed but then was caught rough on the second - then Bulbasaur whipped it off the ground and smashed it Gem-first into the stone causing a slight crack in the Gem...

"Bulbasaur throw it against the tree and let it loose!" and with that the Pokémon was flung into the nearest tree sending bark flying in all directions. It lay motionless on the ground - its Gem bleating weakly.

Alex threw a Pokéball at it - bouncing it off the Gem, it opened and it was pulled inside in the flash of bright light.....

The ball dropped to the ground, twitching and budging.....the look of anticipation grew strong across both their faces....

Chapter 4 (East Route Travelers)
East Town Beat Down (post 1 or 2)

After defeating the Ryhorn, you continue to push through the cave although at a much faster pace. Finally after a tiring adventure you finally see the light at the end of the cave, and make a dart for it. When you emerge from the cave you expect to see more of a forest or some kind of wilderness area, but the actual sight astounds you.

Standing only about 30 feet away from you, is a huge wooden arch that says "Welcome to East Town", and behind it is a very decent looking town. You walk through the gates and see a Pokemon Center, a Pokemon Mart, and many other quaint structers. "This is a very nice little town for being built on an island.", you think to yourself as you decide to hit the center.

When you enter the Pokemon Center, you see that it is an exact copy of what the centers looked like on Fire Red and Leaf Green, which you may or may find cool. You heal your pokemon and then turn around to see a man in swim trunks standing soak and wet in front of you. He stands at about 6 feet 2 inches with a decent build as if he were a swimmer or surfer. His hair is spikey and brown and he has a cut across his left eye.

"So are you one of the trainers here for a gym battle?" he asks you in an australian accent. You say yes and he introduces himself as James Nguyen, the gym leader of East Town. He tells you to follow him to his gym and so you do.

The gym itself is just a platform standing out in the middle of the ocean. There are random holes in the platform which are used as traps or to slow down opposing pokemon. At this point you are excited for your first ever real gym battle and you can't wait to begin.

Note: you can have a conversation with James before the battle if you want.

Dan continued down the Western Route, making very slow progress due to the combination of the hot weather and his damaged ankle. Nidoran was slowly walking beside his trainer, on the lookout for any threats that may be nearby. After about half an hour of very slow progress, the heat finally got to Dan and he signalled to his pokémon that it was time for a break. Spotting a nearby tree, he decided that would make a good resting spot.

Upon reaching the tree, Dan rather ungracefully collapsed back against it; causing the tree to shake from the sudden impact. This dislodged what looked like a large yellow cone, which fell down towards Dan... and landed straight on his bad ankle.

"AARRGGHH!" screamed Dan, as a searing pain flooded through his entire left leg.

"Kuna," said the cone, as it bounced away unharmed.

"That's a pokémon?" muttered Dan, wincing in pain as he pulled out his new pokédex.

'Kakuna, the cocoon pokémon,' chimed the pokédex. 'While awaiting evolution, it hides from predators under leaves and in nooks of branches.'

"Grrr," growled Dan in pain, "Get it Nidoran; peck it quickly before it can use Harden!"

Upon hearing Dan's order, Nidoran charged at Kakuna and rammed into the wild pokémon with his horn. The wild Kakuna was knocked backwards, and bounced roughly along the ground. As the wild pokémon came to a halt, Dan noticed it's body shimmering slightly.

"It just used Harden," he told Nidoran, "Use Peck again!"

Once again Nidoran slammed his horn into the bug type pokémon and sent it sprawling backwards along the ground.

"Keep on it!" yelled Dan, "Use Peck again, before it can use Harden!"

Nidoran quickly followed up his previous Peck attack with another, and slammed his horn roughly into the wild Kakuna. Once again, the wild pokémon was sent flying backwards by the impact of the attack.

"Ka..." said the bug pokémon weakly.

"That'll do Nidoran," panted Dan, calming down. "I think it's had enough."

Leaning heavily on the stick he was using as a makeshift crutch, Dan slowly made his way back to the tree he had been resting against. Leaning back against the tree, much more gently this time, he let out a long sigh. He needed to rest up here a bit, while he waited for the pain in his ankle to subside before going any further...

(OOC: sorry it's short, but it leads into the next post :))

Slls81: That's ok it was a very good post. Nidoran grew to level 9 and learned double kick.

Dan slumped lower against the tree he was leaning on; the heat sapping what little energy had left. He let out a long yawn and looked down at Nidoran, who was sunbathing happily on a nearby patch of grass. Dan smiled, and felt his eyes flicker lazily.

Just as sleep was beginning to take over, something pink flashed across his vision. Looking up, Dan saw something that quickly perked him up. Floating less than five feet above him was the legendary pokémon Mew! Mew had always been the most difficult pokémon to obtain in the original pokémon games, only available through a glitch. Yet here a real Mew was, only feet above him!

Grabbing his stick, he struggled slowly to his feet. As he got up, the Mew moved further away as it was playfully chasing its tail.

"Come back," called Dan.

Cursing his bad ankle, Dan slowly set off in pursuit of Mew. As the legendary pokémon floated across the river, Dan cursed. However he quickly spotted a nearby bridge, and slowly made his way across. By the time he had crossed the River, he had lost all sight of Mew. He looked around desperately, and spotted a flash of pink in the distance. With a lot of effort, he began limping towards the spot he had seen the flash of pink. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and he did not want to miss it.... bad ankle or not.

Upon reaching the spot he thought he had seen Mew, Dan found himself at a dead end. Dan swore loudly, and began looking around wildly in the hope of spotting Mew once again. After a while, it became obvious that Mew was long gone. Dan sighed, but then something on the cliff face in front of him caught his eye.

A picture had been carved into the cliff face, which in itself was strange. Dan had been under the impression that the Island had been uninhabited by humans before now. Even more strange was what was depicted in these carvings. Two men were shown staring at each other, not strange in itself. What was strange was that the two men were none other than Red and Green, the Hero and Rival from the original pokémon games!

While he was still trying to digest this information, Dan heard a noise behind him. Dan span around quickly, not wanting to be caught off guard again, but found himself facing nothing but thin air. Breathing heavily, Dan cursed. He was quickly growing to dislike this Island...

Slls81 - Good post, Dan is the first one to say he's starting to dislike the island. Continue on to the next post and your all caught up!

Chapter 4 (West Route Travelers)
The West Test
After experiencing some very odd things so far in your journey, you hope you are close to atleast getting your first badge. You are worn down, and the air around you seems to be really hot and makes it hard to breath. But as you decide to maybe take a break you see what looks like a radio tower.

You rush over to the tower and realize you are now out of the the tropical forest, and have emerged into what seems to be a small city. The houses and buildings are built into the trees and their are rope bridges connecting each and everyone of them. You see a sign, that lets you know you have made it to the West Town.

This overjoys you and you climb up the tower you thought was originally a radio tower, but turned out to be the stairs up to the city. You finish climbing and notice you are really high off the ground, maybe about 40 to 50 feet but it doesn't bother you. You make your way to the pokemon center and heal up your pokemon. You may decide to go to the Pokemart or just rush on over to the gym.

As you approach the gym, you notice that it is higher up then the rest of the buildings and it doesn't even have any walls. You climb up to the risen platform which now seems to be about 100 feet off the ground. Across from you is a man in a white t shirt and kahki shorts. He introduces himself as Barney Green a former air pilot in the military. (Note: You may have a conversation with Barney before you start the battle).

He tells you that his specialty is flying pokemon, and that he requested for the city to be built this way.

Chapter 4 (Part 1): East Town Beat Down!

Reni walked through the opening into a large cavern. It was massive, as big as a football field. Dripping stalactites hung from the ceiling. Or were they stalagmites? She couldn't remember. She walked under them nervously, expecting one to fall. Over to her left, a small waterfall came out of an opening high in the rock, spewing the clearest water into a beautiful looking pool. The whole cave was filled with bright sunlight, almost blinding Reni as she walked in further. The sunlight came from a large hole at the far end of the cave that opened out to a path.

Before she went that way, Reni moved over to the pool. Upon reaching the edge, she looked down into it and could see a few Magikarp swimming around in the crystal water, occasionly jumping out into the air a few feet. They reminded her of the time she had gone swimming on the Great Barrier Reef. Pulling out her water bottle, Reni dipped it into the pool and filled it up with the water. Then she pulled a cheap plastic bowl out of her bag and filled that up too. She began to walk back to the cavern where the Ryhorn was.

The Ryhorn was still unconcious, but even so, Reni moved carefully. She crept up beside the thing and put the bowl beside it. It would be pretty thirsty when it woke up, and Reni felt a little bad for knocking it out. She also put an apple next to the bowl. Then she quietly retreated and began to walk towards the exit.

She stepped out onto the path and was blinded by the harsh sunlight. 'Geez, I'm probably in another damn wilderness area. When can I get to the town already?' she thought as she tried to open her blurry eyes. A few minutes later she adjusted and opened her eyes fully to a welcoming sight. Standing about 30 feet down the path was a huge wooden arch. Reni hurried towards it and it's message came into view.

"Welcome to East Town!" Reni almost laughed at it's stupid name. These people weren't very creative. They should have called it something like, 'Orientale Town'. That sounded better. Walking under the arch, Reni emerged into an actually decent town. There were a lot of curious structures that looked like houses, though Reni doubted anyone lived in them. Maybe the people who had built all of this was going to pick people to populate the island. 'That would be awesome,' Reni thought, 'to live in a place like this.'

She continued through the town and saw a large, hi-tech looking building with a flat red roof and a Pokeball engraved above the door. She smiled. The Pokemon Center looked exactly like it did in FireRed game, which was stuffed in her bag. Reni doubted that she would actually ever need it again now. The door looked inviting, and Reni needed a rest badly. She stepped forward and the sliding door swept sideways.

The Pokemon Center was air conditioned, which Reni found a relief. She hadn't realised how hot it was outside. The floor tiles were a kind of murky yellow, except for the ones in front of her, which made up a large Pokeball symbol on the ground. To her right was a glass table and a few yellow and blue cushions around it. An elevator stretched up to the second floor on her left, which she suspected led to an area where people could trade. As she walked towards the counter, Reni noticed that there was no-one else in the place. For that matter, she hadn't seen anyone in the town either. She must be the first person here!

Reni walked up to a the red counter. There were two pots of flowers on both sides. Behind the counter was a lady in a hospital gown. She was sitting next to a big machine with six round slots in it. A computer was flashing data on her other side.

"Excuse me miss," Reni said, introducing her presence, "Are...are you Nurse Joy?" The young woman looked at her for a second and burst out laughing. It was a nice sounding laugh, and Reni felt like she wanted to laugh as well.

"No sweetie, they couldn't make everything real." she chuckled. "I'm Nurse Tabitha. Welcome to the first real Pokemon Center. Would you like me to heal your Pokemon back to perfect health?" Reni stared. She sounded exactly like the nurse from the games.

"Yes please." Reni said, feeling a little unnerved. She took her two balls from her belt and placed them on the counter. Nurse Tabitha took them and placed them in two of the machine's domes.

"Okay, I'll take your Pokemon for a few seconds." she smiled and pressed a button. The computer screen started flashing blue and red as a yellow glow engulfed the balls. Then it was over, as quickly as it had started. "Thank you for waiting." Nurse Tabitha said as she gave Reni the balls back. "We've restored your Pokemon to full health. We hope to see you again!"

Reni thanked her and turned around to see another person, this time a man. He was in swimming trunks, standing soaking wet in front of her. He stoods at about 6"2 with a decent build as if he were a swimmer or surfer. His hair was spiky and brown and he has a cut across his left eye. Reni felt her heart drop into her gut. He was so handsome! She felt overwhelmed with lust. How old was he, she wondered.

"Hey there." he said. He had a thick Australian accent that Reni loved.

"Hi!" she squeaked. She nearly told him how hot he looked, but managed to stop herself.

"So, are you one of the trainers here for a gym battle?" the man asked. Reni could only nod her head dumbly. "I'm James Nguyen, the gym leader of East Town. If you want to have the badge, you'll have to fight me for it." He thrust a thumb in his direction.

Reni chose her words carefully, as such not to betray herself. "So, ummmm... Do you come here often?" Reni realised how dumb that sounded and nearly punched herself. "I mean, how long have you been here?"

"Follow me and i'll tell you." James said as he turned around and walked out of the door. Reni rushed after him, nearly stumbling. "I came here from Brisbane last year. They gave me some Pokemon and told me to train them up." They walked past the arch and Reni saw a few more trainers arrive in the town. She was going to be the first person to earn the badge! As they walked, James continued to chat to her. Finally, she spotted a beach and they walked down into the soft sand.

"Over there." James pointed to a large platform standing out in the ocean. "Feel like going for a swim?" James laughed and ran towards the waves, diving in and swimming a powerful freestyle. Reni looked on, admiring him. Then she took off her sneakers, put her bag on the beach and swam after him. The only items she had were here Pokemon and her Pokedex.

She reached the edge of the platform and James helped her up. It was large and a deep sea blue, dotted with holes. If one of her Pokemon fell down there, it would have a hard time getting back up. James started talking and her attention shifted to him.

"Ok then, this battle will be a one on one, is that ok with you?" he asked.

"Sure thing, James." Reni shook of her lust and looked him in the eye. "You're going down!" James smiled and looked at her as he pulled a ball from his pocket.

"I love a fight!" he said, and Reni braced herself for her first trainer battle.

((OCC: Ooo la la, Reni has a thing for the gym leader! The next post will be the big fight. Can't wait!))
