Emerald hack: Pokemon Emerald Rogue

Thank you!
However, after some research, I've noticed there's a v2.0.2a BETA. Who supposedly fixes Sylveon, Pecharunt and some Hisui Pokémon being obtainable now.

This has been deemed as "Unofficial" by the Emerald Rogue subreddit, but I can't help but wonder...

Should I stick with the version here (2.0.1a) or go with the unofficial beta release?

The last update by the original dev is v2.0.1a. Any future updates will be unofficial, since Pokabbie is no longer developing the game.

It's up to you what you want to play, unofficial does not mean bad. The person who made the 2.0.2a patch has a Github if anyone wants to check it out and keep an eye on future (unofficial patches): https://github.com/DepressoMocha/emerogue

Thank you for the link :)

I promise this will be my final question, you've already helped me a lot in these last couple days.

So, EX v2.0.2-mocha is (to my better knowledge) the latest "unofficial" version, and from what I've seen on the github, the most "stable" release? (going off by the amount of fixes done so far).

Whilst v2.0.1a (the one on the first post of this thread) is the last official update by the original developer, and unless she returns and either releases a newer version or picks up where mocha left, these two versions are the "most recent" releases we have so far, correct?

Idk much about the unofficial one, I've only played the version Pokabbie dropped.

The 2.0.1a update is the most recent and last official version. If it's stable, I beat it with no issues.

Yeah, you got it right! v2.0.2-mocha is the latest "unofficial" but more stable version based on all the fixes. And v2.0.1a is the last official update from the original dev. Unless she comes back, these are the most recent versions available.

I really like the idea of this romhack. What has been done so far is very impressive. But actually playing it is immensely tedious due to the excessive micromanagement.

Low bag capacity and the very high number of items found en route means I find myself in a constant loop of grabbing and chucking items. The aforementioned is exacerbated by the number of items with similar or overlapping functionality. Given the opportunity I would remove all status-restoring items except for the Lum Berry. Balls, HP restoring items and so on should also aggressively culled until all that remain are necessary. The number of items per route should be reduced by at least 2/3rds. Aiming so that much like in regular Pokemon, finding an item actually feels a little exciting.

Non-standard evolution items should be replaced either with evolution by level-up or a suitable stone. Mints should be condensed into a single item and made much rarer.

Move set management is my least favourite part of this hack, but I don't see a quick fix for this, but a good first step would be to cut a lot of chaff moves like Growl and Leer.

Yeah... That's kind of the point of Roguelike games? But that's still valid criticism.

That's what I do nowadays, but during my first runs it was part of the grind, it was part of the "fun" if you will.

Again, that's part of what "Roguelike" means, and the game is called "Emerald Rogue". In due time you can upgrade your bag and items within so you can fully customize your own adventures to your needs, the more you play the better your runs are, you just have to "play the game" to make progress.

Yeah, maybe play more of the game. Understand it a little better.

You know... There's other hacks out there that may be better suited for your needs, but all your comments seem to address what makes Emerald Rogue a unique ROMHack.

I would consider playing The Pit of 100 Trials, see if you like it a little better. Or, do what a handful of other people have done and create another fork of Emerald Rogue, go for it an create version 2.0.3 with all the changes to make it more in tune to your liking.

Nevertheless all criticism is valid, I'm not against your ideas, but to be quite frank they have a concrete explanation of why they are the way they are. Long story short, your gripes can be remedied by just playing the game.

Remember this, everything you change inside the Hub, carries over to your runs, including but not limited to:

- Pokémon Moves, Evolution Stages, Natures, IV's, Shiny Status, Bag Size, Bag Items (all of them), and PokéRide upgrades.

Keep in mind, Emerald Rogue 2.0. is kind of a soft sequel and in due time, with the right manpower, may evolve into V3.0 if enough people can help Pokabbie make Emerald Rogue the best it can be.

I keep running into an issue with the ex version patch to where when I try to patch rogue onto emerald it causes the website to crash , but if I use the vanilla one it works just fine, and I'm the usual website I get recommended that being https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/
I looked into the discord but couldn't find any of those issues for anyone else and I even tried maybe using ai to help if possible but I got nothing so I was wondering what I could do to solve this issue ?

Has anyone been able to get the github repository to compile? It has been really challenging with poryscript involved, I have all the dependancies/programs needed to install and was able to do this on regular emerald expansion without any issues, but this seems out of reach trying to get the poryscript files to compile as well. I just want to be able to use the debug menu to customize certain things for myself.

I'm currently running 2.0.1.a, and I'm trying to migrate to the mocha unofficial patch. After patching the new version, just about all my items are missing! Any idea how to fix this?
