I was playing Pokemon Sapphire, ( I got FireRed,LeafGreen,Ruby, and Sapphire for Christmas. Trying to compleat Emerald to get Jhoto starter!!! ) and I'm EV training my Combusken, LV 34, (Naughty nature 0_0) by battling poochyenas. I've been battling them for like 3 HOURS, and when I battle that last poochyena, I LEVEL UP. Now as you may know, poochyenas have 1 EV point in Attack, RIGHT?!? So when I level up, it says I only gained 2 Stat Points (Attack)! I almost threw my GBA SP at the TV, AFTER FRICKEN' 3 HOURS OF WORK!!!! Is there any explanation for THIS!?!?!?! If there is, PLEASE ANSWER!!!

    4 EV points = 1 stat point

Your Combusken is kind of at a low level. You may not see the effects of EV training until at a later level or when it evolves into a Blaziken.

That is, if you have only used Rare Candy or the Daycare to level it up so far.

If you've trained your Combusken against other Pokemon since it was level 5, then it may not accept anymore EV points, as the maximum is 510 EV points... I am sure that you have battled 200 or so Pokemon from level 5 to 34. :(

So, you will then have to clear its EVs by using the EV reducing berries (Pomeg, Kelpsey, Qualot, etc) but these only work in Emerald.

I know, but I had like, 11+ attack on one try (with macho brace of course)

I checked to make sure i had max Evs, but i didn't! (Check it by getting the EFFORT RIBBON in Slateport City

Correct; Poochyena gives 1 EV point in attack.

Macho Brace doubles EVs, so you would gain 2 Attack EVs per Poochyena.

Using the Macho Brace gives faster result.

An Effort Value guide is here.

Well, the ribbon is a good indicator, but perhaps you have many EVs in attack, as you may have beaten up many Trapinch, lol.

So it was +11 one time but +2 another...?

The stat boosts you get from EV training are spread out among the levels remaining until level 100. You won't consistently get +11 or +2 or whatever on each level up, because each level only gets distributed a certain amount of stats. If a Pokemon's EV training began at say, level 5, it's farther away from level 100, so the huge stat gains will happen less frequently. However, if you EV trained, say, Kyogre, which is caught at level 70, it'll get the huge gains more frequently, since level 100 is closer.

Hope that was understandable, I'm sure someone else could explain this better.

What the pretty Vulpix and EmploeMew said. Next time, please use the Simple Q&A thread. No question is as life threatening as to make a thread whose title is in all caps and obviously was typed in a frenzy.

    Locked.
