Pokemon Gijinka Academy

Welcome to Pokemon Gijinka Academy (PGA for short,) a huge school campus located on an island off the coast of the Unova region. The academy is refuge to Pokemon gijinkas. It is a place where they can meet others like themselves, as well as hone and learn to use their abilities, as well as get a regular education (there are regular classes here too.) A Pokemon gijinka, is a human who is born with a Pokemon soul. It is not not yet known why these humans are born like this, however as a result, they are able to communicate with the species of Pokemon whose soul they share. They can also use that Pokemon's abilities, and in some cases they recieved some of the physical characteristics of that Pokemon. The academy is home to many gijinkas young and old. Few people know of it's existence. The academy has been around for decades, and has been able to be a secret for so long due to the presence of a few kind humans in the world.

However, society in general fears gijinkas. They are considered abominations and freaks of nature. Some parents send there children here out of shame after finding out their child is a gijinka. There are also humans who wish to capture gijinkas and use them for malicious purposes, as though they were a regular Pokemon. There are even some gijinkas who wish to use their powers for selfish deeds. However, the school has usually been good at spotting those with ill intentions.

Some gijinkas, save for their powers, and in some cases hair or eye color, can pass for "Normal" humans. There are others however who aren't so fortunate. They have the physical traits of a Pokemon, or have difficulty controlling their powers. It gives them away as gijinkas immediately. These type of gijinkas rarely leave the island.

The academy building, where classes take place, is a large nondescript building that's several stories tall. P.E. classes, are held either outside in a field set up for it behind the building, or in a small gymnasium nearby. Next to the campus on either side, are the towers for the boys and girls dormitories respectively. A walking distance away, there is the Academy Village. Despite being called a village, it is as big as a regular town, and contains all the things towns do. Including a movie theatre, several restaurants a shopping mall, and more. The island itself is tropical, there is a beach with swimmable oceans, and a large rainforest. Wild Pokemon do live on the island. These Pokemon are not allowed to be captured by anyone. They are usually studied in their natural habitat for the science classes.

Personality: Flare is impulsive and quick to anger. She's very proud and if anyone insults her she makes sure they're put in their place. She likes to battle and will often spends hours at a time training. She loves pokemon and is rarely seen without her Charizard. Nothing can stop her from protecting her friends.

History: Born to a rich family in Castelia City, Flare's parents resented her from day one. They were bigshot politicians and thought that having a gijinka as a daughter would lower their publicity. When she was born she looked more like a Charmander, but by the age of six she had grown her wings. When she was two she discovered that she could blow fire and accidentally set the house on fire. Everyone got out alive but Flare's parents abandoned her in the streets. Her instincts kicked in and she learned how to survive on her own. Acting more like a wild pokemon than a human being, she found her way out of Castelia and into the forest. That's where she first met Blaze, who was a Charmander at the time. The two took to helping each other and soon became inseparable. When Flare was eight, Blaze evolved into Charizard. She was showing him how to fly when they discovered the Pokemon Gijinka Academy. Her curiosity aroused, the two landed on the island. They were taken in and the people there helped Flare to regain her humanity.

Abilities: She use most attacks that involve fire (Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Fire Punch, etc.), fly, and heat her body to extreme temperatures.

Other: There are times when her pokemon instinct takes over and she acts more like a pokemon than a human being.

Personality: Lysander is a very calm person. He usually doesn't speak unless spoken to. If he does speak it's only for a good reason. Although funloving and caring, Lysander can be very cruel. Because of his childhood, he likes to mock normal people because they don't have any powers, and are "easy for the picking". Generally, he hates humans. But towards his partner and other Gijinkas, he is a carefree, good friend to have. He is loyal, trustworthy and kind. But he is also rather private. He keeps to himself, so even his friends don't know much about him.

History: When he was born, he was almost immediately shunned by his family. At first, they went to a doctor to see if he had some rare disease, but the doctor confirned that he was a Gijinka, and a very recognizable one too. His parents placed him in an orphanage and never came back.
He was not the only Gijinka in this place, a Shinx Gijinka by the name of Cyler was there too. Cyler and Lysander were always mocked by the other children, especially Lysander, because he was more of a Gijinka than Cyler was. But they had each other. The became fast friends. One day, Cyler had enough. A bully was annoying Lysander and Cyler, and Cyler raged. Electricity sparked everywhere. And before it was known, and before Lysander could stop it, Cyler, and the rest of the children and adults in the building, were dead. It is unknown why or how Lysander survived, but he did. This was the most horrible moment of his life. They were fourteen years of age.
The authorities, not being able to find Cyler's body, assumed that Lysander did it. They then put him in the school, where he would learn to harness his powers. From the age of fourteen, he'd been working hard in the school. Until one day, he met his partner, a Sneasel. He realized he could hear her talk, astounded, he took her in.

Pokemon: Weavile

Abilities: Lysander can use various moves that a Weavile might use, he has his own set of claws and such, he can launch Dark Pulses, Night Slashes, and other things like Ice Beams and Ice Fangs.
He is very swift, and fast. He can run fast, like a Weavile, and can very quickly launch attacks.

She loves having Lysander as a partner. She used to be a very untrained rulebreaker, but Lysander straightened that out. Despite still having Weavile traits, she is surprisingly nice.

History: Caleb was born in Lavender town. He lived there for 7 years like a normal human. But then Strange things started to happen. In fear his parents abandon him in the lavender tower. The ghost Pokemon in the tower helped him survive and final led him to the Pokemon Gijinka Academy.

Normally kind to people, she's easy to befriend, though she has an edge and dislikes people who bully her friends or anyone in general; normally standing up to those people and teaching them a lesson one way or another. When she's not snapping at people however, she's hanging out with friends, the only people she actually opens up to. You may find also find her accidentally picking fights with people, or her jokes getting on your nerves. She doesn't mean harm in her jokes, but she can definitely 'annoy you to death' if she wants.

History:
Born in an average family, she grew up first seemingly normal along with her twin sister. She had blonde hair, blue eyes. Nothing out of the norm. However, as she continued to grow, her beautiful blonde hair began to turn white, spiking and slowly turning to appear like electricity. Maka was picked on at school for her appearance, and her changes eventually caught the attention of her parents. Taking her to the doctor, she was finally announced as a Gijinka, who's species was unidentified as of then. Sending her away, she was forced to cut all emotions from her family, joining the Gijinka Academy and receiving a pokemon of her actual species. Rotom.

Pokemon: Rotom

Abilities: Maka can go through walls as a ghost and zap out electricity through her hands and hair. Otherwise, she is known to be an incredibly fast runner, one of the fastest in the school. She is also very light, though she isn't a great physical fighter and can't take many hits.

Other:
The girl can sometimes shock people on accident, unable to fully control the electric currents in her hands or hair. If her hair is touched, it can send large volts of electricity on impact. The same is not always for her hands, normally the electricity barely going through unless on demand.

Gender: Male
Appearance:He is small, short and skinny, not even four feet. His hair is short and a sandy beige sort of color, messy and falling all over his face underneath the two green Leafeon ears and leaf sprouting up in he middle of his head. His eyes are amber and wide, but with a distinct dullness to their light. Ethan's skin is slightly tan and freckled. He wears a light beige long-sleeved shirt. Around his wrists and ankles are small leaves, the ones at his wrists slightly longer. His pants are a pair of tattered blue jeans and he used to walk around barefoot until the school made him put light brown moccasins on. His leaf tail pokes out of a hole in his pants. He carries a light blue scarf, which he treasures greatly.

Personality: Ethan is very quiet and obedient, complying before he can think to question anything. He was "trained" this way, so he has little expression of free will. His quietness is countered by his ferocity when fighting or when his "family" is insulted. He is not very easy to intimidate, except if you breathe fire in his direction or around him. He is not afraid of heights though and prefers them sometimes. He is very thoughtful but also blunt and will honestly answer any question. He cannot lie unless you tell him too.

He has an odd definition of family. It's pretty much anybody who does not hurt him. Ethan wants to find his sister very much and doesn't like being stuck on campus because he doesn't look human. Ethan dislikes the academy staff. He doesn't remember his parents very well or his hometown so he is very curious about parents. Most of what he has heard is not very good so he doesn't ask much anymore. He dislikes crowds. Whenever he doesn't like something, he shakes his head or gets away from everyone. If he is afraid, his tail lashes everywhere like when he is angry. When Ethan is happy he makes a small sound, like a mewling sort of noise. It's very rare.

History: Ethan was born a few minutes before his twin sister Elena, a pair of gijinka. They were born in a remote town in Sinnoh that actually praised gijinka, considering them a sign of a good luck or even or heroes. More than one was even better. So the then Eevee gijinka were praised. But this only lasted three years. The children had just found their partners and were living peacefully. However, a group of people, unnamed and unknown, razed their home to the ground and took them away. Neither returned home or know if their parents are alive.

The siblings were taken to a facility to be used for both testing and ill purposes. They were trying to understand how gijinka were born and to see if they could make their own. Both were taken to separate areas of Sinnoh to evolve their Pokemon and somehow, they themselves did the same. The next few years of their lives were full of experiments and terrible crimes, most of which were many of the reasons humans feared their kind.

When they were seven years old, the group was forced to temporarily disband and the twins were taken to separate locations. Before that, the pair had swapped scarves they had made. On the way there Ethan got it into his head to act on his own and escape. He barely made it out, having been sedated most of the way there with Leafia. The pair went searching for a year to find her but when they thought Elena and Glacia were close, the Academy staff found them and took them there, far away from wherever the other two had been. He has been stuck on the island since.

Pokemon: Leafeon
Abilities: Ethan can use many of the techniques of a Leafeon (Leaf Blade, Razor Leaf, Synthesis, etc) However, he can also use Shadow Ball (Leafeon TM). He feeds mostly using photosynthesis. He is incredibly good at sensing enemies.
Other: Ethan mostly feeds from photosynthesis. Otherwise, he is a vegetarian. He and his missing sister do not share a "Telepathic" bond but they can vaguely sense one another when the other is nearby. He frequently plays Grasswhistle with different melodies, curious to see if all it can do is make the opponent sleep. Sometimes it doesn't.

Appearance He looks like an ordinary Leafeon except his leaves are a lighter shade of green but there is a green bandanna around his neck and a scar running diagonally from the right side of his face down between the eyes. Also his eyes are green.
Personality: Leafia is a placid creature. He talks more than Ethan but like him is rather quiet. Leafia is rather affectionate, an opposite of his human. He shares the same dreams as his partner and will do anything to achieve them. Even though he is very observant, just like Ethan, Leafia is still trying to adapt to a normal, "human" society, having been raised as an obedient weapon. He is better at it than his partner, which is why he's more emotional.

Name: Savannah (Sav/Savvi) Emsley

Personality: Similarly to her Pokemon counterpart, Raichu, Savannah is aggressive in her approach to life - not synonymous with being aggressive in general. She is quite laid-back, and it takes a real blow to make her lose her temper - just like Raichu expelling excess electricity stores to return to a normal level, if Savannah has any issues with anyone or anything, she will confront the issue head on and resolve it before it grows any bigger. This makes her very straightforward and blunt in her dealings with people, especially when confronting any problems, and this can come across as sharp or nasty, but really Savannah is just getting straight to the point, refusing to skirt around the issue in preferring to solve it straight out.

Savannah's personality completely depends on the person/group of people she is with, or the situation she finds herself in - her moods are relatively changable. If she is with people she knows and likes, then she is bright and talkative and easy to get along with, but in strange social situations she can be shy, and for new acquaintances it can be difficult to get to know her.

Savannah has never really been one for familiarity - which can be explained in part by her history - and so new locations and surroundings don't tend to phase her. She can easily adapt in this sense, so a town in Kanto wouldn't be any different to a town in Unova for her, there would be no 'settling-in' or adjustment period required for her. If anything she prefers travelling from place to place, being easily bored with anything that becomes too mundane or familiar.

History: If you asked Savannah where she was born, she'd look at you blankly. If you asked Savannah who her parents are, she'd shake her head and tell you she didn't have any. If you asked Savannah why she was born a Raichu pokemorph, she'd shrug and reply 'Because I was.'

For a Gijinka, there isn't really any such thing as a 'regular' upbringing. But one would assume that any such experience would involve a family, a hometown, a set of values and lessons passed down from the elder generation to the offspring, culturally constructed views on the world from the wider community. Of course, these vary from person to person - a kitchen doesn't have to have all known appropriate appliances to be a kitchen, just as one's upbringing doesn't require all of the above. However, if you ask Mr Average Joe on the street, this would most likely be the kind of criteria they would provide.

Savannah had none of these whilst she was growing up as a child. Savannah was born at 4 years of age, outside the Cerulean Power Plant in the long grasses. Her first breath was taken under an azure sky, her first sight was of water lapping at the shore, her first smell was of the emissions of the Power Plant. All this she remembers as clearly as though it had happened yesterday, looking down at her dark orange coloured skin, the brown stripes across the tops of her thighs, the white patch on her stomach and chest and her long tail, that swished back and forth as she willed.

She remembers the Raichu who watched her timidly from the grass, ears turned downwards and eyes concerned - this...this hybrid looked both like one of his race...but also as one of those humans he saw going about their daily business at the plant. She had a head of long brown hair that he didn't have...she was much taller than he was...but as she pushed herself to her feet, he noticed she had the same markings, ears and tail as he, and most importantly she crackled with electricity as he did. Perhaps the static drew them together, but as the two watched each other curiously, a bond was forged that lives until this day

During the next decade, the 4 year old raised herself with her Raichu partner, learning how to survive and living practically as a feral pokemon. The thoughts of her life before she became a gijinka never crossed her mind...until one day when she was strolling through Viridian forest at 14 years of age she saw something peculiar - a grown man who had the markings and facial features of a Pidgeot and two wide wings folded on his back emerging from the base of a tree. Perhaps it was pure instinct, but with no regard for her own safety she marched up to the man.

"What are we?" she asked him, confused by his stricken expression. It was a simple enough question...he was the same as her...why did he look anxious? Without saying a word, he gestured to the tree and a passage appeared, he urged her down it and she was led through to an underground hideout with gijinka of all ages and forms. It was there she learned about herself, learned social norms and constructs, how to interact with people. Over time, finding herself the youngest member of the group by quite a distance, she became a 'normal' member of society with her tribe of Gijinka who hid from their oppressors in that underground system.

Until one day, their Chief took Savannah aside and told her that she didn't have to hide underground anymore. There was apparently an island far away where she could go to school with others of her own age who were also Gijinka, she could live a normal life for someone her age AND she could take Raichu with her. She was hesitant to leave the tribe she considered her family, but they vowed to still be there upon her return if she wished to stay with them, but she was bored of living in that system of underground tunnels, having been there for 2 years already. So she applied. And she was accepted. And her new adventure began.

Pokemon: Raichu

Abilities: Savannah could control lightning - she could summon ferocious thunderstorms to provide her the power she needs to fight, but she is also very sensitive to static in the air, and like her Raichu collects this static cumulatively through her tail.

She is also very agile, and has fantastic stamina. She prefers to run on four legs, similarly to Raichu, but she can run over great distances at high speed without being overly tired at the end.

Other: In quiet moments when alone with her thoughts, Savannah often wonders about her life before she awoke as a gijinka – a deep part of her would like to find her family and parents, or at least to know where she came from, but she is afraid of admitting this to anybody, most of all herself.

Personality: Like most Raichu, Taima is often very timid upon first meeting, and can be somewhat hard work and flighty. He is extremely loyal to Savannah and will go to any lengths to protect her or a loved one.

In battle, Taima is aggression pokemon-ified (like personified but not ^.^) – he has a defensive move or two in his repatoire but he much prefers to be on the attack constantly, even if from a distance using his extensive catalogue of Thunder-type moves. This has gotten him into sticky situations in past battles, but he and Savannah are currently halfway through a training programme devised to plug this gap in his technique.

Anyone want to consider taking this over and thinking of some ideas for a conflict/plot?

I'd be more than happy to GM this if I'm allowed to. Only thing is I don't have too much experience of GM'ing here - I', a very active roleplayer and have been for a number of years so I know what I'm doing, but if anyone else with more experience wants to step forward then that'd probably be better.

In terms of plot...I was thinking of developing either an outside threat to the Academy (an anti-Gijinka organisation planning an attack) - only thing is that this would more than likely require us to make NPC's to form this organisation...might be a bit of a faff.

Alternatively, there could be an intra-Academy split, either between boys and girls or between certain groups of types (like electric and fire versus water and ice - that kind of thing) - we wouldn't need to make any additional characters for this, we could just focus our time on developing our primary characters.

Another idea could be corruption at senior staff levels of the Academy - either corruption provoked by sheer greed and lust for power or by something more sinister, like something is controlling the top dogs in charge.

They're just a couple of things I've thought of - I haven't developed them any further yet...what do you guys think?

Hi Selena. I'm pretty sure it'd be okay if you took over. Lessee... I think your last two ideas could work well together, as in the staff create the tension between the groups or something. And the reason why is senior staff are... well we can think about that later. The question is: how do we want to start it off? Jumping right into that would be awkward. Maybe it could start with the new year starting and there are rumors floating around the school already...

Yeah...I suppose we'd have to start it off with really little things. So something like...rooms in dorms are being allocated by corridors of types - so a corridor of electric types, a corridor of ghost types, a corridor of water types and so on. This would be the most basic indicative sign that could be questioned right away - it could be a new school policy for that year's intake.

Then it'd have to get slightly bigger. Such as there were class seating plans/battle groupings that were set according to type. Then perhaps developing into segregation of classes completely, and the cancellation of some cultural awareness classes, or different curriculums being taught to different types to reinforce any prejudices or developing conflict. Ultimately, it would build up from these little things to much bigger things, rumours turn into factual observations and this in turn creates even more conflict.

I think I'll need to have a think properly and write down some options, put them into a potential plotline and develop it from there. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know (I'll have to do this tomorrow as I'm off to sleep shortly ^^)

Personality: Floyd takes things more seriously then others, He has a strong sense of humor but when people joke around him to much it will push him over the edge. Floyd likes group activities, and hanging out with his friends.

History: Floyd comes from your average Family, He has a brother and a sister. His parents never thought of him as there child, more of a pet. His brother was liked by his parents over anything. Floyd's only friend was actually his sister. His sister treats floyd like a brother and not like his parents or brother treats him. Floyd got to the point where he left to the island. His sister still visits him when she has the chance.


Abilities: Floyd can steal electricity from any source of power, even the other way around. Floyd can inject any object lets say, a TV. If the Tv is shorted out, Floyd can inject electricity to make it work again. If he is angered he sparks lightning around him. He is honing that at the moment.

When ever Lex is left in a room alone within 5 minutes the room is torn up like crazy. Lex is very protective of Floyd and does anything to protect him. When ever Floyd's sister comes around Lex gets very excited. When ever Lex is eating you do not. want to come in contact with him.
