Pokemon go battling

    So... if I'm correct the only way to battle in Pokemon Go is the gyms... and idk it just doesn't appeal to me much. It's basically just tapping the screen (?) and the stronger pokemon wins. I've heard that the type of pokemon also affects but idk...

    It'd be fun if we could battle other trainers like in the other games. Team of 6, 4 moves per Pokemon and turn based combat. It would make the game more interesting on the competitive side of pokemon.

    Currently it's been just collecting Pokemon (which is fun too!) but I really have no chance at the gyms at level 11 and my highest cp pokemon is about 550. And I don't know how the cp system works if you can get more and more powerful pokemon all the time, meaning that the gyms grow stronger at the same pace I'm getting stronger.

    Anyways what you think? Should they add a different kind of combat system in addition of the gyms?
     
    There's a lot of speculation that they'll add trainer VS trainer battling at some stage but the strain on the servers that'd come from that right now is far too much to risk. I would be amazed if they never add this feature but for now it is unfortunate that gyms are the only battling opportunity - makes it feel a tad redundant catching half of the Pokémon we find paha. As for gyms constantly getting stronger, whilst this is an issue it's been seen a lot that you can take down Pokémon many hundreds of CP ahead of yours with not too much difficulty when attacking gyms so it shouldn't be too much of a problem, especially since there is a cap in all Pokémon's CP so gyms should always be at least somewhat contestable. But yeah I definitely agree with you that they should look into trainer battles as a priority haha.
     
    I don't expect them to ever implement a battle system that would rival or let alone be more appealing than the traditional ones found in the core series games.

    Unless they want to drive their audience away from handheld console sales.

    IVs do exist in Pokémon GO and when you get to the stage where you want to min/max a main team for attacking/defending gyms, you're still going to have to pray to the RNG gods much like you do for the main series games.
     
    One of the next updates will have trainer battles. I saw a screenshot with another trainer on the radar and the option to ask them to battle
