ok so i was just watching the newest pokemon that aired this morning, Searching for a Wish, and i noticed that when they found jirachi they used their pokedex and it said that it only appears for 7 days every 1000 years. But does anyone remember the movie Jirachi Wish Maker? in the Hoenn Region? well it has definately not been 1000 years in that tv show if Ash is still 10. So it made me think. Is there a Pokemon Movie timeline and Pokemon TV timeline like the legend of zelda timeline and are they both different? i guess its a new theory that i came up with but its boggling my brain.

Through a technicality nothing that happens in the movies is Canon to the Anime's story line. So while they may play off of one another, nothing that has happened in any of the movies has ever really happened to Ash with exception to the Mewtwo Movie which I think was written into the anime thanks to a couple of episodes. Pretty much everything after that though has been excluded from the main series story line. Like the more recent one with Victini and the Mascots for Black and White. In the anime Zekrom is already awake and wasn't sealed like in the movie and Reshiram's orb was found in an area that wasn't in the movie by N.

None of the movie shorts have ever been Canon either.

thats what im saying. its like 2 different timelines in the pokemon world.

Not really different timelines as none of the movies interact with each other either except the D/P ones with Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, and Arceus. All of the other movies are all independent so they in essence don't exists at all.

And like, Ash kind of was implied to know what Jirachi was, so... it's just a different one that woke due to the pure voice stimulus rather than the thousand-years clause.

I mean, there are problems with movie and anime canon clashing- Victini movies vs beginning of Unova/end of Episode N is the most prominent clash, surely- but a good deal of them are part of anime canon. Everything related to Mewtwo & movie 8 are certainly part of anime timeline. I'm sure there are various details indicating that other movies are indeed part of the same adventure. It's pretty much like... movies are canon unless they can be definitely proven to be otherwise, as is the case with M14. WHICH IS REALLY ANNOYING BY THE WAY.

Good point about fillers haha. Never thought of it that way but yeah they really kind of are. Welp.

I would say its the other way, They are not Canon until proven otherwise.

@Hiroshi the Professor Lund thing. Was that in all versions or was it just an English Dub? I know a lot of the time some things are mentioned in the Dubs that are never mentioned in the Japanese one which creates a rift as its not Canon depending on translation.

The Movie with the Lati@s I don't remember ever being referenced, nor the one with Celebi. I can't remember the Lucario movie ever being mentioned and later Ash was told by someone else he had the ability to control Aura which if I remember that was said in the movies.

There are a good bit of them that don't get referenced.

Timeline? Something like that does not exist in Pokemon anime.
Maybe in seasons but not between them.

Well considering Ash had all of his prizes from the other regions in his room, including the Orange Island trophy and I believe I saw the Battle Fronteir medals and the certificates he earned from his League conferences, there is a timeline in the actual anime.

The movies are cannon, its just Ash isn't all "I just saved the world from 3 legendary birds, DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!?!" or "i just stopped the Poke-God's rampage by Time traveling, JUST SAYING." about it. by now, he just sees it all as another Monday in Pokemon.

The only movies that have been referenced or hinted to be canon in the anime, i think, was the first one (with Mewtwo) and the most recent one with Genesect, as the Genesect Army did make an appearance in an episode where they destroyed the P2 Laboratory. Not sure if I missed any, my memory of earlier episodes is a little foggy. xD

I believe that the movies are on their own separate line, and the only canon ones are the ones referenced in the anime.
