After his father sent him off back to Kanto, Grecko arrived safely at his destination. He was soon ushered into a room where he waited with other soon to be trainers. After an hour or so the trainers were taken down a small path to which would lead them to Proffesor Oak. Grecko watched all of the other kids as they walked down the path, he noticed one boy in particular that kept clenching his fist together and wouldnt stop talking to this one girl. And than their was a cocky one who said the kid was just showing off.

Grecko ignored all of this because he knew his goal was much more important than bickering between trainers. They finaly arrived at Proffersor Oak's lair when he told them to sit down and began to speak. "Today is a very important day for you young trainers, although I wish this day would have come under different circumstances. Your here today to begin your quest to save Kanto from the control of the Dark Brotherhood, but you must listen to this warning, once the leader of the group knows of your exsistence, he will try to presuade you to join his cause. If you deny him then he will have you and your pokemon executed. At your current state you would stand no match against him, he is ruthless and his pokemon are all corrupt and full of evil, he will most likely come after you immediatly while you are weak so you do not get to strong. " Oak said then taking a deep breath he then pointed to the map.

"This is what Kanto currently looks like covered in Darkness, currently you are here, in an underground lab under Pallet town where my old lab used to stand. Your first mission is to make it to Viridian city and go to the old Viridian Gym there you will find a hidden door that will lead to the Clan of Hopes hideout, show the man at the door your pokedex he will let you in, after this wait for a man named Zypher to come to you. That is all take care young trainers, and let light lead you all" He said again sitting down at his desk taking a big sip of his coffee, he was nervous, but he knew it was out of his hands now. After hearing what Oak had to say Grecko walked over and picked up the pokeball with his name on it.

Grecko than noticed everyone was heading out so he grabbed his pokedex and ran back outside to start his journey. Once he reached the outside he decided to check on what kind of pokemon he got. "Come on out pokemon!" Grecko shouted as he tossed the pokeball onto the ground. "SQuirt Squirtle!!" the water type pokemon said as it came out of it's ball. "A Squirtle huh, awesome" Grecko said as he started to look at the pokemon. "Looks like me and you are gonna be teammates little buddy" Grecko exclaimed reaching out his hand to the Squirtle. "Squirtle!!!!" the pokemon said estaticly as it grabbed Grecko's hand and began shaking it.

Grecko than returned the Squirtle to it's pokeball and headed up to route 1. As he walked around Grecko noticed how the sky's were darker and the city of Pallet Town was destroyed and desolate. "This is pathetic...this once beautiful land has become one big pile of crap. Well Squirtle and I are gonna do something about it, it's our destiny as dad would say. And i can't let him down, i just can't." Grecko said as he finaly reached route 1.

Tamara sighed, rushing out of bed. She had gotten dressed before bed, so it was all good.

Quickly, she hurried herself towards the place they would gather, and hastily power-walked down the narrow path. It could hardly fit a single-file line. It made her wonder whether that was good or bad.

She entered the room just as the Professor started talking. Tamara ignored the few others bickering nearby, as she wanted to hear what Oak said. But she was very startled by it, even scared.

"Today is a very important day for you young trainers, although I wish this day would have come under different circumstances. Your here today to begin your quest to save Kanto from the control of the Dark Brotherhood, but you must listen to this warning, once the leader of the group knows of your existence, he will try to persuade you to join his cause. If you deny him then he will have you and your pokemon executed. At your current state you would stand no match against him, he is ruthless and his pokemon are all corrupt and full of evil, he will most likely come after you immediately while you are weak so you do not get to strong. "

Tamara shivered violently, her eyes wide with fear. She could hardly see Oak when he pointed to the map and showed her where to go. Absentmindedly, she nodded, calming down slightly. She let out a sigh, not wanting to show what she was feeling at the moment. All right, down to Viridian, show him the Pokédex, I get it...

Impatiently, she took the Poké Ball with her name near it, and let Professor Oak hand her the Pokédex and extra five Poké Balls.

Excitedly, Tamara rushed out the door, stopping just outside, a bit aside from the door. She hastily opened the Poké Ball she had received, and smiled widely at the Pokémon that had emerged. It was a beautiful, long-furred fox, with a fluffy mane and long tail. Its black eyes shone brightly, its huge, pointy ears twitching almost all the time. "Eevee..." It purred.

Tamara examined the Eevee with her Pokédex.

"Eevee, Evolution Pokémon. Its genetic code is irregular. It may mutate if exposed to radiation from elemental stones."

"That's kind of cool," Tamara admitted to herself, closing the red box. At that, she withdrew her Pokémon and headed towards Route 1.

Pallet Town was rather unnerving. The shadow made her shiver, as if it were consuming her, and it wasn't nearly like what she had imagined. Even the gray-roofed buildings were unwelcoming. She could feel her feet shake as she walked along the path. It was hard for her to stay calm, but she sighed again, and decided just to think, not look. The shadow was bad, she knew, but how bad, exactly? What would it do? Contaminate Pokémon, maybe?

Her head was down as she stopped at the entrance of Route 1. She had to stop the shadow.

PumpkinZiggy: Good post! I like how you describe the shadows etc.... Tamara received a lvl 5 female Eevee, 5 pokeballs, and a pokedex.

Max tossed and turned in his sleep. It was only when his Pidgey alarm clock rang that he actually got up and got ready.

"Cooocooo! Cooocooo!" it rang.

Max groaned and pressed the button in the middle of the Pokeball to turn it off. He sat up and rolled out of bed to get ready. He looked around his messy room and grabbed his usual attire from yesterday and got dressed.

He wore a red T-shirt, a white hoodie that covered his T-shirt up, brown baggy shorts, and two white socks. He slipped on his bronze necklace and grabbed his white backpack. He didn't even bother to do anything about his hair, and then he started down the stairs.

He ran in to the kitchen and stopped, sliding with his socks on the kitchen tile. His parents often warned him not to or else he would get in to trouble somehow. Max never listened though. He looked around to make sure his brothers weren't around and then he opened the refrigerator and grabbed their special breakfast food.

He quickly sat down and began eating it. Once he was finished, Luke, the youngest of his older brothers, came in to eat it. He opened the refrigerator and looked around for it.

"Max. Were's my special breakfast food?" he asked.

"Uhhhh." Max said.

Max looked down at his plate and then Luke did too. THere was still some left and Luke was furious. He grabbed the cuf of Max's hoodie and threw him on to the tile, and then pinned him down. Max was used to it, but he hated it.Then, his other two brothers came in and saw the scene.

"What's going on, Luke?" Richard, the middle of his older brothers, asked.

"Maxxie here ate all of my special breakfast." Luke said.

"My name is Max! Now let me go!" Max said squirming and kicking his legs everywhere.

Then, Max kicked Luke's family jewels. Luke reacted and cuffed them, and then Max tried to get away. He managed to get to the living room, but the the eldest of all of them pounced and tackled him to the ground.

"Where do you think you're going?" Paul asked.

"Let me go!" Max struggled but he was stuck on the ground and couldn't get up. Then, the door clicked and his mother walked in. Quickly everyone who was on the ground stood up to make it look like they hadn't done anything.

Max, realizing this was his chance, walked past his parents and out the door to go to the lab. Luke, Richard, and Paul all gave him an evil glare when he looked back. Max smiled and waved goodbye and then set out for the lab, realizing he was free of those three until he got back.

---

When he arrived at the lab, everything was neat and tidie. Everything was were it was supposed to be and not all over the place like Max's room was. He was standing in a horizantal line, consisting of eight trainers, right in front of a desk with Professor Oak behind it. Professor Oak had grey hair, wore a white lab coat, wore brown pants, and a red shirt.

He grabbed the tray f Pokeballs and passed out a Pokeball, 5 other Pokeballs, and a red mechanical device to everyone. Max clipped the 5 pokeballs to his belt, and held in one hand the Pokeball containing his starter, and in the other one he held his POkedex.

Oak walked over to a map of Kanto and began talking. Max silently groaned to himself knwoing that this was the boring part. " he said.

Oak took in a deep breath of air and then he pointed at the map. That is all take care young trainers, and let light lead you all" he said and then sat down at a table and began sipping his coffee.

Max nodded and left. He knew what the mechanical device was now. It was a Pokedex. He walked outside and looked up in to the sky. It was covered in a black and purple mish-mash. It looked like a show he had once seen. No a comercial for those new Pokemon trading cards. What was this series called 'Stormfront?' Either way he hated it.

He took the Pokeball in his hand and threw it up in to the air, and kept the Pokedex out. In a blinding white flash a black ball surronded by purple gases popped out.

"Gaaa." it said.

"G-g-ghost!" Max yelled.

He fell down to the ground and started backing away. He quickly scanned the Pokemon as it followed him a little confused by how he was acting.

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon Path to Light or Darkness

Species: Gastly, the Gas Pokemon.
Entry: This Pokemon's body is 95% made up of gases, which are blown away by strong gusts of wind.

Max sighed and stood up. Then he headed for Route 1 with the ghost following him around.

Pikalover10: Good post, sucks about Max's brothers. Max received a lvl 5 male Gastly, 5 pokeballs, and a Pokedex.

Matt slowly opened his eyes as the dim light of..
"MIDDAY?" He cried. "I'm late!"
He opened his oak drawers and pulled out all his clothes, jumping into them, grabbed his hoodie, and went downstairs. He looked into the kitchen. No one was there. He went over to the fridge and grabbed some bread. Popping it into the toaster on the highest setting, he drunk from the tap quickly and shortly after, grabbed the toast.
It was burnt horribly.
"Never mind that." Said Matt aloud. He grabbed the key from the worktop and sped outside. After fumbling with the key for a second, he managed to get the door locked. After double checking the door, Matt set off with a speedy jog.
------
Matt knocked quietly on the door of the laboratory.
"Come in!" Called Proffesor Oak. Matt stepped in and groaned as he saw that the laboratory was empty.
"You're late." Stated Oak. Matt was about to come up with a list of excuses, but Professor Oak stopped him and said it didn't matter. Oak equipped Matt with 5 Pokeballs to put on his trainer belt, and a pokedex. Finally, he was given a special pokeball that had a flame icon on it. Matt was slightly confused by this, but Oak gestured that he threw it.
He threw it, and, sure enough, a raging inferno of flames appeared. The room was filled with smoke, and out came walking a charmander. Hes got style, thought Matt.
Matt picked up the charmander, and, despite its protests, petted it.
And so, Matt looked at the horizon, and set off on his pokemon journey...

Latioscute: Alright Post I know its hard for the first chapter, but try to make them a little longer from now on... anyways Matt Received a lvl 5 Male Charmander, 5 POkeballs, and a pokdex.

(OOC sorry this it's taken me forever to post, I have had some computer problem and have had some problems with the posting)

It had been a week since Gage had left home and he was just making his way into the now desolate Pallet Town. As he slowly walked into town he noticed that almost every single building was cleared completely except for a small ruin of what looked like it had once been a lab. As he approached the ruin Gage noticed a group of relatively short people waiting inside. Originally when Gage heard he was invited into the Clan of Hope he was amazed that they accepted him at such a young age but now Gage realized that he was actually the oldest to have been recruited.

When Gage finally approached the group they all went up to where Oaks computer desk was and entered a password which opened an underground passage under the table where he used to put the pokeballs that contained the starters for the young trainers. In the passage two of the younger children started to argue. A young boy named Shaun was questioning a girl's willingness as a trainer and eventualy started boasting abot how he wasnt afraid of anything.

Gage just had to say something to shut this kid up "Ignore him," he uttered "He's just showing off." As soon as this was said Shaun stared up at him sneering and the girl smiled at him almost synonomously. For the rest of the walk everyone was relatively silent. Eventually the group of recruits came to a large steel vault-like door. Gage reluctantly knocked and said " Professor?"

There was a large bang and what sounded like frantic steps before an elderly man in a lab coat answered the door, " Oh hello, sorry about the mess, it's been a while since I've had any guests." Gage recognized him from all the photos of him at his grandfathers house but something was different, he looked older and not just a little older, he looked like had had aged at least two decades. "Welcome to my little hide away." He said as he lead them into a small briefing room where he explained the whole situation and gave them their first mission.

After his long intro he lead them into his small research lab where on a table he had 8 pokeballs. To Gage's amazement Shaun the little punk got his pokemon first and without even releasing it he ran out of the lab and dissapeared. Oak approached Gage and started speaking to him under his breath " Hey, I know I'm not supposed to pick favorites or anything but your grandfather and I used to be very close friends so I saved this pokemon especially for you." He gave Gage 6 pokeballs and a pokedex. " Thank you professor I promise I won't let you down" Gage said greatfully. " Oh and one more thing," Oak said " I know your a good kid so I just want you to keep an eye out for some of your new friends so that they stay on the right path."

"No problem professor." Gage said with a grin as heretreated to the far corner of the lab and released his new pokemon. Out of the ball came a small golden hunched over pokemon. " AN ABRA!" Gage exclaimed. " My grandfathers first pokemon was an Abra! Thanks agian professor!" But by now Oak had moved on to the next trainer.

Gage stared at the pokemon for a while surprised at its silence. He reached out an arm towards the small creature and in his head a soft voice rang out " Hi." Gage was shocked looking around to see which of the recruits had said anything to him but all the other recruits were busy with their new pokemon. He felt something tug on his leg and he looked down the golden pokemon had grabbed his pant leg and once agian in Gage's head it rang " It's me, on the floor, are you my new trainer?" Gage silently nodded his head and the small pokemon did something that looked like a smile. It let out a loud yawn and in Gages head he heard " I'm sleepy, can I go back in the ball?" Gage fumbled with the ball but he managed to return the pokemon.

Slightly shocked from his encounter with the small psychic type Gage loaded up his bag and set off for Route 1. As Gage walked out into the Route through the ruined gates he thought about how bleak the sky is and how all the grass is dead. He thought about darkness and the embrace it has over the world as it is. "Darkness existed long before light but thats only because hope exists only when there is nothing but sadness and oppresion. And now the darkness is trying to engulf the light, and I wont accept it! I will stop the light from dissapearing and I will return balance so that the sky willh ave color agian and the grass will once agian be spry. Beo, your reign of terror is about to end, get ready for me because here I come!"

Sumner: Great Post! Gage received a lvl 5 male Abra, 5 pokeballs, and a Pokedex.

Chapter two is up!

Chapter 2
Route 1
Posts: 1

Route 1 used to be such a beautiful small passage, where many starting trainers would catch alot of there new pokemon. The grass was a beautiful light green color, wild pokemon could be seen at almost every step, trees were full of leaves and health.

Nowadays things are different, the grass is dead, the normal wild pokemon who lived in the area have all migrated away, the few remaining wild pokemon are all visicous and will attack all out with no warning so be careful. The trees are all dead no leaves can be seen on any of them. The lushous green that once was is now gone.

As you walk onto the route you get a creepy feeling that you are being watched from afar, but you see nobody. The only thing you see is darkness and what it does to the things around you. Like ancient scribes would say "Darkness brings power, but power corrupts, those who truly wish to embrace the darkness must allow themselves to become corrupt".

Route 1

After looking around and noticing his surroundings Grecko decided he better get a move on if he hoped to make it to the Viridian Gym. Grecko began running through the grass that looked worn out and dead. "Ugh, this place just gets more depressing" he said as he looked at what had become of this place.

Grecko decided to slow down and just walk to Viridian City since he didn't see any of the other trainers around. After walking for about 10 minutes Grecko actually started to feel tired and not knowing what was causing it, he ended up passing out in the middle of a field. When Grecko awoke he saw that a greenish pokemon was sitting in front of him, so he quickly pulled out his pokedex. "Gulpin the lazy pokemon. This pokemon tends to put threats to sleep with it's yawn attack" the pokedex said.

Realizing that the Gulpin is what caused him to fall asleep Grecko decided he would capture the pokemon as payback. "Come on out Squirtle" Grecko yelled as he summoned his starter. "Squirtle squirt squirtle!" the pokemon chanted as it got ready for battle. "Ok Squirtle use tackle!" Grecko commanded.

Squirtle charged in and successfully landed the tackle attack causing the Gulpin to roll backwards. "Now Squirtle use tackle again!" Grecko commanded not realizing that his Squirtle had fallen asleep. "Ahhhh.....****.." Grecko sighed as he saw that the Gulpin had used yawn to put Squirtle asleep. Gulpin than jumped up and hit Squirtle with a pound attack causing it to wake up.

"Squirt???" the pokemon said confused as it looked around. "Squirtle, Gulpin put you asleep and than used pound on you. How does that make you feel?" Grecko asked the pokemon hoping to make it angry. "SQUIRTLE!!!" the pokemon yelled infuriatingly.

Grecko ordered his pokemon to use tail whip which caused the Gulpin to slightly feel awkward as it defense lowered. Squirtle than jumped in with a tackel and knocked the Gulpin out. "Alright Squirtle goodjob!" Grecko yelled as he tossed a pokeball at the Gulpin hoping to catch it.

Tim0789: Good post! It seems Grecko has some anger inside of him, thats going to play a big part shortly in a few chapters.... Anyways Grecko Caught a lvl 3 Male Gulpin!

One of the players had his character's father know professor Oak. I'm going a bit further, but I'm only doing it for background on the personality quirks. I hope it's okay.

Name: Charlemagne "Charlie" Mangs
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Appearance:
[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon Path to Light or Darkness

Charlie is a lithe, bright-skinned girl of average height for her age. She has lush, blonde hair that would probably reach all the way to her butt, had it not been significantly shortened by its own natural curliness. Charlie's eyes are a dark brown, her lashes long and her eyebrows trimmed to little more than thin, yellow lines. Desensitized and urbane, she rarely blushes - combined with her pale complexion and aversion to make-up, this makes her face a pale mask those few times it remains in one expression for more than a few seconds. She's fit and has some visible muscle; she's not exactly 8-pack-worthy, but the bulges on her biceps are visible without perfect lighting.

Something of a fashion oddball, Charlie is the owner of a varied and eccentric wardrobe. Her usual attire consists of a long, purple, sleeveless vest with a jagged lightning bolt, white in colour, running around it, coupled with a regular pair of jeans with purple leg warmers covering half the legs. This getup she combines with a sturdy pair of army boots and, recently, a white navy cap with the front emblem switched out for a stylized pokéball. Topping off her outfit is a pair of electric-proof, black gloves with the fingers cut off (rendering them quite useless). All her clothes, unless otherwise implied, are made out of 35% cotton and 65% polyester, washable in 40 degrees and bought with no regard to child labour or eco-friendliness.

Personality:
Energetic, spirited and generally upbeat and enthusiastic, Charlie is easily taken for a complete mental reject by those who value their dignity highly enough. The fact that she has the situational awareness of a box of prismacolour pencils rarely helps her counteract this impression - she is known to be startled by the slightest of things, including, but not limited to, people well within her field of sight addressing her, snapping their fingers, whistling, addressing someone else... the list goes on. She is easily taken by surprise. To her defence it can be said, however, that when she's actually prepared and aware, she's tough, concentrated and a quick thinker. The fact that large parts of her childhood consisted of endless exposures on military and pokémon strategy have left her with a fair amount of insight into matters of war, although she herself theorizes that learning to tune out these long-winded speeches was what made her so absent-minded.

Though generally a nice person, Charlie is known to be a wiseacre whenever she gets the chance, and to have a love for solving problems with violence. She takes pride in her battle skills and has a tendency to call other people "baby" for no real reason. Except for pokémon battle and her life, there are few things she takes seriously - for good and bad. She doesn't have a keen sense of ethics and moral either, though she's smart enough not to flaunt that part of her personality.

She likes veal, strawberry shortcake, pokémon battles and unrestricted humour. She dislikes being startled, TV-shows with more than 30 episodes, cook books, sour candy, bus rides and folk music. In her spare time, Charlie likes to write poetry and test it out on anyone close enough, whenever she's not in the gym or riding her chopper. She tends to watch every fighting event she can, and to cheer very loudly for either side.

Background:
Charlie's upbringing was a little out of the ordinary. Her father was a Flotilla Admiral in the navy, and her mother was the sort of person that dresses like a hippie but screams for blood during every boxing match and pokémon battle she sees - including those on TV. As it just so happens, Charlie's father was the cousin of the famous Lightning American, Lieutenant Surge of Vermillion. Thanks to these three people, Charlie's early years were filled with war, violence and pokémon, often at the same time. The little girl quickly grew desensitized to violence in all its forms and, thanks to her mother's constant violent movie marathons and how they weren't suited for little girls, Charlie ended up spending a lot of time with "unca Surge". Once Surge had convinced young Charlie to stop calling him that, the two actually got a along pretty well. During the day, she'd watch him train and battle in the gym, and at night he'd be lecturing her on strategy and tactics and the greatness of electric pokémon. Naturally, Charlie would smile and nod and try her best not to listen, but when the same thing is repeated to you endlessly over the course of half your life, you're bound to learn some of it. When it comes to electric pokémon, Charlie generally beats a pokédex, even though they're not really her favourites.

At her tenth birthday - right after the league tournament five years ago - Charlie was looking forward to going on her pokémon journey. When she mentioned this to her parents, they both had a laughing fit. What kind of idiot would let their ten year-old child venture out alone, and without so much as finishing elementary school? Disappointed, disgruntled and generally pissed off, Charlie spent the next week sulking before she got over it and took to riding motorcycles without a helmet instead - something that her parents, strangely enough, never objected to. Half a decade passed, and Charlie hadn't really been thinking a lot about pokémon training in that time - in fact, she was more concerned with her own well-being, what with the sudden appearance of creepy people in hoods who were beating regular folks into submission everywhere you could see. Eventually, however, Charlie was contacted by Zypher and sent to Oak's lab - with her relations to a gym leader and the army, she assumed she was a natural choice. Seeing as she'd always wanted to be a pokémon trainer, and how she wouldn't mind a chance at finding out what had happen to Lt. Surge, she accepted. Actually, she accepted on a whim and thought up those reasons afterwards.

Additional Information: Spriting that appearance picture was a pain in the ass. She's now half past five and I have to wake up at nine. I don't know if I'm stupid or if I'm trying to take revenge on myself for some past slighting.

Starter: Duskull, the Jason Vorhees pokémon.

Bulbasaur sniffed at the dead grass in curiosity, feet crunching as he took each step. The grass type eyed the hazy dark fog in the distance.

"If you're wondering about the world, then its pretty much like this all over," Shaun said, looking completely laid back as he walked with his arms behind his head. "I don't know how long you've been away from the world," he continued, but you'd best get used to it." His expression soured a bit. "I don't know why it's such a big deal. Me and those other's pretty much grew up with it, but it creeps out the girls and disturbs the boys, but it's never bothered me…"

"Saur," Bulbasaur said in understanding. This strange darkness had never bothered him before.

Shaun nodded. "See! I don't even get what the big deal is! People always complain about it, but I don't even see what's so wrong with it…" he trailed off with a sigh before frowning angrily. "But who cares!" he said with a laugh, as if trying to push a bad subject away. "I'm not scared!" He even threw a cocky grin behind his back at a trainer that was lagging around way behind him, shuffling about in fear, looking as if something would come out and attack him.

"I mean, even if its something knew, and its something major, best get used to it and see how it can benefit you," Shaun continued, earning a thoughtful nod from the grass type.

They walked in silence for a while.

"Bulba!" Bulbasaur said, pointing forward with its front paw.

Shaun looked toward where Bulbasaur was pointing and grinned. "Look's like we've got our first challenge," he said, looking at the dark pokemon.

"Sne," the Sneasel said, looking toward them confidently. With its large feather, it was clear it was a male. It gestured at them to come at it.

"Well, you heard it! Tackle!"

"Saur!" Bulbasaur roared, charging forward, head down.

"Snea," Sneasel smirked, claws at the ready as it too charged. "Ses!" Sneasel cried, jumping over the plant type skillfully and swiping at Bulbasaur's side before it even landed. "Es," it said mockingly, quickly jumping away.

"Saur!" Bulbasaur cried in pain, wincing at the cuts.

"Don't give in," Shaun said coldly. "Tackle!"

"Bulba!" Bulbasaur called, running again at the confident dark type.

"Snea!" Sneasel called mockingly, charging once more, claws at the ready.

"Wait for it…" Shaun said quietly.

"Saur!" Bulbasaur cried, butting his head forward.

"Sneas!" Sneasel called, once more jumping over the grass type with a feline's grace and striking Bulbasaur's hide.

"Quick, before it gets away!" Shaun bellowed.

"Saur!" Bulbasaur cried, quickly spinning on its feet and bashing Sneasel backwards.

"Sens!" Sneasel cried out in pain, bouncing back a bit across the ground. "Sea," Sneasel said lowly, standing up and eyeing Bulbasaur wearily.

"Good," Shaun praised the grass type. "Tackle!"

"Saur!" Bulbasaur snarled, running again.

"Snea," Sneasel said with a sneer, form becoming a blur as it charged forward with a Quick Attack.

Shaun gritted his teeth, knowing that no matter what, Bulbasaur would always be the slower pokemon, and using this Quick Attack only showed it on a larger scale. "Don't let it hit you," he ordered to his pokemon.

"Saur," Bulbasaur said, suddenly stopping in his charge.

"Snea," Sneasel scowled, body still moving in one direction. For a pokemon as low level as him, using such a fast attack could be a bit disconcerting and made it hard to control which direction he went. Still, he tried to charge at Bulbasaur, nearly stumbling over his feet and grimacing in annoyance.

Shaun smirked, seeing the grimace. "There."

"Saur!" Bulbasaur said vigorously, noticing the grimace as well. He lunged. "Saurb!" Bulbasaur cried, head bashing hard into Sneasel's.

"Sneas!" Sneasel cried in pain, getting bashed backwards. "Esa," Sneasel panted, pushing itself up.

"Bulbasaur, Tackle!" Shaun cried out, not wanting the pokemon to have the luxury of being able to get up.

"Saurb!" Bulbasaur cried, hitting Sneasel once more before it could get to its feet.

"Snea!" Sneasel cried as it was hit in the chest. "Esl!" Sneasel snarled, this time getting up as quickly as possible and slashing at Bulbasaur with its Scratch attack.

"Saur!" Bulbasaur cried out in pain, staggering back.

"Bulbasaur, ignore it. Focus on the battle, and ignore the pain. Tackle!"

Bulbasaur nodded in understanding and charged, ignoring the pain for now. "Bub!"

Sneasel stood, a sly smirk on its face. Instead of charging, it gestured at Bulbasaur to come at it, its claw shadowy. "Sne," Sneasel smirked.

"Saur!" Bulbasaur roared, its speed picking up as its eyes darkened with rage at the teasing. "Bub!" Bulbasaur got out, finally ramming Sneasel painfully in the gut, knocking the wind out of it.

"Snea!" Sneasel gasped, clutching its stomach.

"Sar," Bulbasaur growled, grinding at the ground with his foot and tossing his head back and forth like an angry Tauros.

"Bulbasaur, use Tackle," Shaun ordered.

"Saur!" Bulbasaur called instead, baring his teeth and letting out a deep Growl instead.

Sneasel shivered in slight fear before quickly charging at Bulbasaur in a blur. The Quick Attack hit, but the attack seemed much weaker than it should have been, thanks to the Growl.

"Bulbasaur, Tackle!" Shaun snapped angrily, frustrated that his pokemon had disobeyed his orders.

"Saur!" Bulbasaur yelled darkly, charging toward a weary Sneasel.

It wasn't until Bulbasaur bashed its head into Sneasel's, did Shaun understand… it was that Taunt.

"Snease!" Sneasel cried, nearly out of breath but still Scratching Bulbasaur quickly and jumping away, legs shaking as its strength slowly ebbed away.

"Bula," Bulbasaur Growled lowly, forcing Sneasel to shiver in fear.

"Finish it," Shaun told his pokemon, eyeing the two exhausted pokemon.

"Saur," Bulbasaur said, eyes still dark with rage as it squared off against Sneasel.

"Snea," Sneasel said back, claws at the ready.

They both eyed each other for nearly a minute, waiting for the unheard gunshot before the both charged. The two roared their battle cries, head and claws at the ready.

"Snea!" Sneasel cried, swiping deeply into Bulbasaur's bulb.

"Saaaaur!" Bulbasaur screamed. The call was so loud that Shaun was sure that one of the other trainer's must have heard it. Still determined, Bulbasaur quickly bashed his head into Sneasel's gut before he crashed to the ground.

"Sea!" Sneasel screamed wordlessly, the air completely knocked out of him. "Sne," Sneasel gasped, landing hard on his back painfully. The dark pokemon shook furiously, trying to get up.

"Saur," Bulbasaur grunted, body shaking as he tried to stand. After a moment, he fell into a slump.

"Don't you dare," Shaun said dangerously. "Don't you dare! After all you've just accomplished, you're just going to give up! You're at the end, so finish it," Shaun said coldly as he ran over to his pokemon.

"Sea sea sea," Sneasel panted, on his hands and knees, body shaking from the pain.

Bulbasaur eyed Sneasel with a soft glare. With a grunt, the grass type forced himself up and readied himself against the dark type. "Saur," he said in a deep voice.

"Snea," Sneasel said with a smirk, too tired to do anything than just stay there with that mocking smirk.

"Tackle," Shaun said coldly.

"Saur!" Bulbasaur roared, using up the last of his strength to charge, head lowered. "Saurbs!" Bulbasaur grunted as his head finally made contact with Sneasel's, sending the pokemon bouncing back.

"Sea," Sneasel spat as he finally stopped bouncing and lay on his back. Sne," Sneasel said softly, still smirking as he stared up at the sky.

"Bulba," Bulbasaur breathed out, sitting down thankfully.

"Good job, Bulbasaur," Shaun said, turning to the pokemon. Bulbasaur gave him a happy grin. Shaun turned back to the fallen Sneasel and pulled out a pokeball. "Go, pokeball!"

Vrrrrooooooooooom!

Bursting through Route 1 on her trusty chopper, Charlie grinned widely and cracked it, standing up in her seat as the vehicle accelerated. A low branch threatened to take her head off - she barely dodged, but that only encouraged her to grin even wider. Taking her cap off, she waved it in the air beside her and cheered. "Whohoooooo! Get out of my waaaay!", she roared, laughing loudly as she burned through a group of Ekans. It didn't feel like she flattened any of them, but the ones she could see scattered and scrambled for the bushes. Plopping her navy cap back on, she grasped the steering with both hands and took a brief, curious glance over her shoulder. Giggling at the last of the Ekans, still worming their way off the road, she then turned her attention back to the road - just in time to clear the tree line and roll into Pallet Town, town of new beginnings... or whatever. A roar and a screech later, Charlie'd found herself a parking spot - looked like it had once been a fast-food stand - and hopped off her bike. As she took the keys out, she heaved a sigh. Taking the keys hardly mattered nowadays since, if someone wanted the bike, they'd probably just carry it off. It wasn't like there were any people out who'd stop them. Still, it felt better. Putting them in her hat for safe-keeping, Charlie began to pick her way through what was left of Pallet, searching for professor Oak's lab.

As it turned out, finding it was easier than expected. True, she did have directions. But, seriously, the old man had been hiding out in an obvious place like Pallet Town for half a frickin' decade. How could he not have been found? Those were Charlie's thoughts as she made her way down the stairs to Oak's secret laboratory. Other people, young teens like herself, were there too - it looked like she was actually a bit late. The way it seemed, Oak was in the middle of holding a speech when Charlie peeked inside. It was something about being executed, followed by a lot of 'he' and a bit about how they wouldn't stand a chance. Overall, it wasn't hard to figure out what he was talking about - it'd have to be Mr. Scary-Nasty of whatever-their-name-was. Hah! Like she cared a bit about that now. Obviously, she'd deal with that sort of thing when, and if it happened. For now, all that was interesting was getting her own pokémon. Charlie ignored everyone else completely as she trotted over to the ball with her name on it. Picking it up, she giggled to herself and did a little pirouette, cocking her arm for the throw as the background turned pink and yellow, like a transformation scene from some magical girl animé. "Alright, my super-awesome pokémon... Show yourself!", she called, tossing her pokéball to the ground.

With a click and a fwoom, the ball opened and released the customary energy beam, before turning in the air and returning to Charlie's hand. She pulled her hands up to her chin in anticipation, eyes aglitter and her mouth half-open... for about three seconds before she drooped in disappointment, a large sweat drop hovering by her temple as the camera panned to the left, revealing a round, skull-faced pokémon bobbing in the air. "Duskull!", it cried, the light in its eyes turning arc-shaped as it hovered right in front of Charlie's head. It remained suspended for a few moments, floating curiously around its new trainer, obviously unable to discern the near-tangible aura of disappointment radiating from the girl. At just that moment, professor oak walked by and noticed the odd scene. Putting his hand on Charlie's shoulder, he raised an eyebrow and asked, "is something wrong, miss?". A dangerous gleam flashed in her eye, and exploded into an enraged pose, both fists balled in front of her chest. "Yeah, there's something wrong! Are you kidding me, professor? I'm trying to look stylish here, and you give me some freaky parody of a five year-old's take on the Reaper? Is this supposed to pass for a ghost or something? This isn't scary at all! WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO PULL!?". As she roared the last part, she grabbed hold of Oak's collar. The professor simply looked back at her with an expression of mild surprise.

"Well", he began, dignified as ever, "I'm sorry to hear that you don't like your new pokémon, but I'm afraid we've chosen your pokémon for strength rather than aesthetics. I assure you that Duskull here becomes quite powerful as it evolves". Charlie simply growled and pulled Oak closer, but just as she was about to open her mouth, she felt a tap on her shoulder. "Hm?", she hummed, and turned around. The sight that met her was tremendous - a single, glowing eye and a saw-toothed, drooling pair of jaws, roaring. Charlie let go of the professor and shrieked at the top of her lungs as the Night Shade washed over her. The effect was only momentary, but it left marks. As the illusion shrank back into good old Duskull - albeit with an angry vein in its forehead - Charlie stood shocked, hair ragged, cap askew and her left eye twitching. Duskull turned around and folded its tendrils with an indignant, "Dus!". There was a momentary pause, before its trainer suddenly threw her arms around the little ghost and squeezed it into a tight hug. "That was awesome, Duskie! That's exactly what I'm looking for. You're a great pokémon - thank you, profes-". She stopped mid-sentence, as she'd turned around to find that professor Oak had taken off. With an accepting shrug, she smiled and turned to join the others in leaving the building. Somehow, she'd already managed to snatch up the pokéballs and dex when no one was paying attention.

Back outside, Charlie soon found that the world was, in fact, still in tones of black and dirt grey, and just as depressing as before. That is - it would have been depressing to anyone who hadn't just gotten their first, awesome pokémon. As it were, the fluffy-haired girl hardly even noticed all the grey and brown, as she hummed a tune and skipped along the street. Duskull was still in her eyes, and its distressed cries soon called on Charlie's attention. "What is it, Duskie? Oh, you don't like the way everything looks? Hah hah hah - yeah, it's pretty dull and boring, huh? Shouldn't all of this fit a ghost pokémon like you, though?". Duskull looked thoughtful for a moment, then craned one of its tendrils as if snapping its fingers, and subsequently floating out of the girl's grasp - straight through the flesh of her arms. It rose to face her, nodded and smiled, doing a little somersault. "Duuuuuuhskull! Skuuuhll! Skuuu~!", it cried, spinning around to face everything. Charlie giggled. "Yeah, I thought so. I don't exactly loooove it myself, but I do appreciate a change every now and then. Maybe it's time to change it back, though. Haaa~, let's just get going. We'll see what happens!". Duskull bobbed in agreement, and the two set off. Back toward Route 1. Too bad she couldn't bring the bike.

Chapter 2 - An Awkward Encounter

Gage had walked for about an hour with little compications aside from pushing through the unkempt grass and the occasional log. The grass seemed to on and on and Gage was amazed in the utter lack of pokemon in the area, he had remembered reading somewhere that route 1 was supposed to be a beautiful plain teeming with pokemon life but all Gage had seen so far was high dead grass and some giant stones.

" Gez I thought this was supposed to be an adventure... wheres all the damsels in distress or dragons that need be slaying... It's getting pretty boring." Gage mumbled to himself. All of a sudden behind him Gage heard a voice " Hello? Is anyone there if so I require a bit of assistance." though the grass a purple haired boy in a white suit strolled looking tottaly lost and confused.

"image removed"

" Oh this is so unbecoming for someone of my social status, I should've just sent one of my servants but of course I HAD to be polite.... well this is the last time I assure you." The minute he stopped rambling on with himself he was face to face with Gage. " Uhh hi..." Said Gage. " Hello, my name is Trevor Pennyworth, I come searching for a man named Professor Oak, I was hoping I could possibly bye a pokemon from him." The boy said.

"Well I don't think he is willing to sell any of his pokemon" Gage caught himself " I mean, he left this place long ago, all thats left of Pallet is a desolate wasteland, I'm afraid you wasted you time friend."

" Darn it," Trevor said " and I was hoping to augment my team a bit. You see I'm a collector of sorts and I'm trying to collect the best of the best pokemon for the ultimate team so, instead of wasting all that time catching them I'm going to all the places I could think of to buy pokemon from there."

Gage had a distaste for trainers like these, they had no bond with their pokemon whatsoever and treated them more like toys or possesions then partners. " Well I'm sorry to hear your journey here was a waste of time I hope you have better luck in the future..."

The purple haired trainer glanced at Gage for a second and said " Maybe it wasn't a complete waste, would you possible care for a battle?"

Gage knew he had a mission to take care of but he couldn't let an oppurtunity like this go to waste, " Sure I would!" He removed a pokeball from his pocket and yelled " Go Abra!" He threw the ball into a pretty bare patch of land and out of it came the small golden creature, " Hi agian, by the way I just want you to know my name is Spoons, what's yours?" Gage hesitated he had almost forgotten the psychic abilities that his new pokemon possesed. " My name is Gage, but now is not the time for such formalities, we are getting ready to battle."

Spoons' head tilted to the left and in Gages head it rang " Oh okay sorry Gage, I'm ready when you are." Out loud Trevor said " Are you all done talking to yourself because I'm ready to battle, go Swablu!"

Out of the decorated ball came a small bird whos wings looked as if they were made from cotton, but something about this swablu was different from most, she was golden while most were blue. " Thats quite the pokemon you got there...." Gage said slightly amazed, but the Rich boy had already begun his attack.

" Use your Astonish attack GO!" Said Trevor and the small bird flew at Spoons. It stopped right before it made contact with Gages pokemon and spread its wings around him screaming. " Gage make it stop! Make it stop!" He heard in his head, obviously his pokemon was in pain. " Spoons use your tackle attack!" All of a sudden the small golden bird was thrown back into a thick patch of grass and Spoons stood. " Now use teleport to get in front of that rock!" The psychic pokemon issapeared and reapeared in front of a nearby boulder sitting down again.

" URRR! Swablu what was that? Show some strength I paid 96,000,000 P for you, come on show some strength! Use your peck now!" Screamed Trevor at the top of his lungs. The Swablu stood and took flight again speeding at Spoons as fast as possible. Right before contact was made Gage yelled " Spoons! Use your teleport!"

Spoons dissapeared agian and the golden bird smashed into the boulder going completely unconcious. " USELESS, USELESS, USELESS," the richboy whined in a pouty voice, " You were a waste of my money, no way you could be a member of my team with a terrible fighting ability like that!" Trevor brought the Swablu back into its ball and said " I might as well leave your ball here, not liek you could be any use to yourself in the wild anyways."

" How could you say that? Your Swablu obviously tried its best in battle and I think it showed some true strength, if anyone here is useless it's you! Your a spoiled ignorant brat, can you not see how terrible the world is today? Can you not see the darkness approaching?" Gage yelled with anger.

" How dare you .. you... you... PEASANT! IF YOU WANT THIS PATHETIC EXCUSE OR A POKEMON TAKE HER!" Trevor through the decorated pokeball Gages way and stormed off in anger towards nothing in particular.

Gage sat there stupified, " Umm. Alright... I guess I will." He said with a grin. " And I have the perfect name for her, Angel."

Gage was excited, only an hour and a half as a trainer and he had already gotten two pokemon AND one of them was shiny, soon enough he would be strong enough to take on Beo himself!
