"Here's the place," Shaun said to himself, eyeing the old, abandoned gym where he was supposed to meet this Zypher or something. Curiously, he walked inside, nose crinkling with distaste as he got a blast of dusty air blown his way.
Cautiously, Shaun walked through the gym, eyes wandering for anything worth picking up. He saw nothing, but all too soon he heard some dark chuckles. Swirling around angrily, Shaun glared at the three new people, his hand already over his pokeballs.
"Well, well," one drawled. The three of them were wearing dark clothes that even covered their faces. "What do we have here?" he asked to the others.
The other two began to circle him, and Shaun made sure his hand was held steady over his pokeballs. "Look's like we got ourselves a newbie trainer," another one drawled with a laugh.
"Jus' a little 'un," the last said, his voice rather seedy.
Shaun narrowed his eyes dangerously, an angry growl coming from his throat.
"Haha! Did you hear that!" the leader cackled. "It sounds like we got ourselves a rabied trainer! I wonder who does the battling? The trainer or the pokemon?"
"Go, Sneasel!" Shaun barked. "Shadow Ball them!"
With a burst of white light, the dark colored pokemon with red feather appeared. "Snea!" Sneasel snarled. Eyes lighting up at Shaun's order, it brought its claws together and focused on the black energy ball. With a smirk, Sneasel lifted his eyes to meet the startled black clad people and unleashed the attack.
"Get down!" one of them shouted.
The three figures all dove out of the way, and as soon as the Shadow Ball hit, the whole building began to shake and blow dust everywhere. When it calmed, the three men carefully stood.
"Well, it seems we don't have a rabied trainer, but a little darkling instead," the leader said. Shaun could clearly hear the smirk.
"A what?" he asked.
The man tilted his head. "A darkling," he repeated. He leaned down, closer to Shaun, but Shaun moved back. "You're like us. You seek power, and the Darkness doesn't bother you, but instead empowers you."
"Nothing does anything to me," Shaun snarled. "I get my own power my way. "
The three men chuckled. "You don't understand, do you, boy? The Darkness, the power that Beo has bestowed upon us..." The man paused to take in a deep breath. "It is intoxicating. We can show it to you, we can make you great. You want to be powerful, boy? Come with us."
Shaun snarled at the man. "Prove it," he spat. "If you're so powerful, prove it."
Shaun could almost see the man grin behind the cloth. "Very well, go!"
With a burst of white light, a pokemon made out of a ball of gas appeared.
"Gaaastly!" it exclaimed, flying around in excitement.
"Go, Bulbasaur!" Shaun called, throwing out his grass type pokemon.
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur called, digging at the ground eagerly, excited for another battle.
"Leech Seed," Shaun ordered.
"Bulba." Nodding, a seed burst from Bulbasaur's bulb and was launching at Gastly, where it soo grew and began to sap Gastly of its strength.
"Gaast!" Gastly hissed.
"Gastly, use Night Shade!" the man barked angrily.
"Sag," Gastly said lowly, eyes glowing grey.
"Saur..." Bulbasaur shivered as the ghostly presence zapped away his strength.
"Bulbasaur, come back. Sneaselm Shadow Ball!"
Bulbasaur eagerly bounded back as soon as Sneasel took its place. "Snea!" Sneasel called, focusing on the dark energy in its claws. Sneering at the ball of gas for giving a wince of pain as the Leech Seed zapped at its strength, Sneasel let loose. "Easel!"
"Gastly, Night Shade!" the man told the ghost type angrily.
"Gas," Gastly snarled, eyes glowing grey and attacking Sneasel's health before screaming in pain as the dark sphere bashed right into it. "Gaaaas!"
"Snea," Sneasel winced, shaking his head. The attack hadn't hurt so much as irritated, him being a dark type and that attack being a ghost attack. He was stronger, and thus wasn't so fazed.
Gastly, on the othert hand, was incredibly weak against the attack. Sadly, it was the only attack he knew that would hurt the ghost type, but it was still effective, nevertheless. The poor ball of gas was writhing around in pain from not only the Shadow Ball, but from the Leech Seed that was still taking affect. Sneasel sneered at the ghost type, a pokemon weaker than he. In this time of Darkness, Sneasel's type, the dark types, were reigning supreme. While he didn't understand while the Darkness was giving him strength and anger, he still knew he had to use it to his advantage.
"Finish it with another Shadow Ball," Shaun commanded.
Sneasel flashed a smirk and fired the Shadow Ball. Sneasel liked his trainer. He understand the time they were in, and knew how to use the situation to his advantage. Not to mention that he was nearly as ruthless as he, but with the restriction of the few human morals that he still held onto...
"Snea!" Sneasel said happily, jumping out of Gastly's eye range as it tried another Night Shade. It failed, and once more the Leech Seed took affect.
The man gave an angry grunt. "Get up, Gastly!" he spat angrily.
"Gass..." Gastly said weakly, the gas-like fire flickering weakly around its body as it closed its eyes. It had taken one too many of the super effective attacks.
"Gastly, return. Go, haunter!"
With a burst of white light, a new ghost appeared, and this one had feline characteristics. "Haunter!" it cried out happily, It floated around, eyeing everything curiously before it took in Sneasel. It gave a nasty grin to the dark type.
"Bulbasaur, Leech Seed!" Shaun barked out.
"Haunter, Hypnosis before it hits you!"
"Haunter!" the ghost type cried, sending out a ring from its mouth right at Bulbasaur.
"Bulbas!" Bulbasaur cried, quickly launching the seed from its bulb before the Hypnosis hit. "Bulba... saur," Bulbasaur said with a yawn, eyes closing as it fell asleep.
"Bulbasaur, return," Shaun said just as the man barked out, "Night Shade!"
"Nea," Sneasel winced, shaking a bit as its energy was sucked away before letting out a sigh of relief as the Leech Seed took affect, taking away Haunter's health and giving it to Sneasel.
Shaun smirked. "Look's like that weak attack won't work. Sneasel, Shadow Ball!"
The man scoffed. "Don't get cocky, brat. Hypnosis!"
"Snea sel!" Focusing the energy between his claws, Sneasel gave Haunter an ugly look as he jumped over the ring headed right at him and pretty much jumped right over Haunter. "Sease!" Sneasel threw the black sphere, hitting the feline ghost right in the head.
"Haaauunter!" Haunter cried. The ghost tyoe had looked up, mouth wide open in a cocky smile, but just ended up swallowing the Shadow Ball.
"Snea." Sneasel brought up a claw to his mouth as soon as he landed, as if covering up a smile. The dark type pokemon was shaking from laughter as the Haunter's body was literally seizuring. The gassy body was bubbling, and the ghost type looked like it was in pain.
Shaun was doing no better. In fact, he was openly laughing. "What a way to go out!" he said loudly as he clutched his stomach in mirth.
The man turned to Shaun, and looked as if he wanted to hit him. "Haunter, Night Shade!" he barked.
"Haun..." Haunter hissed through the pain, eyes glowing as it attacked Sneasel with its mind.
"Sneaa," Sneasel hissed lowly, shivering a bit from the attack. "Eas!
he spat, shaking his head and lifting his claws readily.
"Sneasel, don't give in! Shadow Ball!"
"Hypnosis," the man spat.
"Don't get hit!" Shaun said loudly, knowing that he was done for if his last pokemon went to sleep. His eyes flickered over to the other men, noting that they had rather bulky arms. Shaun wondered if they were simple grunts...
"Sne," Sneasel said with a sigh, look on its face clearly telling Shaun that he wouldn't do less. "Sneasel!" Jumping over the Hypnosis ring, Sneasel fired the Shadow Ball.
"Anter," Haunter hissed, eyes glowing gray as it tried to get one last attack on Sneasel. "Haaaunter!" Haunter cried, black sphere of power bashing into its body and taking away its strength.
"Snea," Sneasel spat, shaking his head once more as the ghost attack tore at his mind. With angry eyes, Sneasel turned to glare at Haunter as the Leech Seed took the last of the Haunter's strength away.
"Hant..."
The man shook with barely controlled rage. "Haunter, return."
Shaun gestured for Sneasel to cover him, just in case the men tried to do bodily harm. "Where's this strength of your?" he asked with a sneer. One man made to say something, but Shaun interrupted him. "Where's this strength?" he demanded again. "You're nothing more than grunts, aren't you?" he asked with a sneer. "The lowest of the low. You got nothing with this supposed strength. If you truly want to show me something, prove it to me with real power," Shaun spat.
The man looked ready to jump him, but one malicious look from Sneasel had them back down.
"Get out," Shaun said with a deadly quiet. "Get out, and don't you dare come back until you can truly prove to me this darkness has power."
The man moved back, his voice dark. "You know nothing of the Darkness, and because you defied us, you will never recieve it."
Shaun yawned. "I highly doubt that, grunt," he said, pleased that the words made an impact with the man. "And I don't even care. I can get power for myself," he said with a sneer. "So next time another one of you comes, you'd better prove to me if this darkness even has power."
"You little..."
"Sneasel, Shadow Ball!" Shaun snapped.
The men blanched and took off.
"Snea," Sneasel said with a vicious smirk, the dark sphere glowing in between his claws. Looking up, Sneasel licked his fangs and tossed the Shadow Ball at the fleeing men.
Shaun watched them, furious at these men threatening him. Although he had won, he knew that more powerful... whatever they were men... would come back. He sure hoped so. He wanted to see what this supposed power was, and see how it could benefit him. If not, he would take out whoever got in his way of becoming the most powerful pokemon trainer.
And as Shaun walked away, deeper into the abandoned gym, he never felt the pair of dark, black eyes that followed his every move...
