((Grah! The crash ate my last post. This gets the point across, but looses 33% of the flavour :\)).

Without much ado, the ditz and the Duskull made their way to Route 1, skipping and floating along, respectively. Hands folded on her back, Charlie skipped backwards out of Pallet Town, so as to be able to chat with Duskull at the same time. "Hmm, I wonder", she started, "where is everyone? I mean, I'm sure there was a whole bunch of other people standing around in the lab, but I can't see any of 'em around. What do you think, Duskie?". Duskull simply tilted and shrugged, indicating that it had no more of an idea than its trainer. Charlie pouted, but kept up her pace and looked around. "Weird. You'd think a bunch of kids with pokémon would stand out - I mean, this place is all gravel and withered plants. It looks like some sort of really old TV-show. I suppose you wouldn't know what I'm talking about, huh? You've been raised in that lab, after all". Duskull simply tilted again. "Duskull". "Of course", Charlie replied, giving Duskull a sour look. With one last, long skip, she planted her feet firmly on the ground and turned around, pointing toward the withering trees and tall grasses of Route 1. "Well, Duskie - here it is. The first leg of our journey, Route 1! We'll blast past and grab ourselves another pokémon or two - then we'll be able to get this journey started for real". Duskull cried its name in agreement and floated on ahead, closely followed by its trainer.

Charlie crept through the tall, darkened grass of the first Route, on the lookout for new pokémon to catch. Brushing aside the grey-green blades, the slithered along like a ninja - at least in her own mind - ever vigilant, ever watching, ever... wait a second. What was that? She thought she'd caught a glimpse of movement in the corner of her eye, and as she turned to face in the right direction, she found something truly exciting. Right in front of her lay a dead, fallen log, splitting in two a large glen clear of grass and trees. To the left of the log was an Ekans - a somewhat pale Ekans, but an Ekans none the less. After all, everything was pale nowadays. It was lazing about on a rock, apparently sunbathing despite the poignant lack of sun. Charlie, however, was much too exhilarated to question this behaviour - see, on the right side of the log sat a Sneasel, leant against the dead wood, seemingly in the process of sharpening its claws. "Dammit", Charlie whispered to herself, "which one am I gonna catch? Ekans is sooo cool-looking, but the one to the right has, like, claws. Big ones. And it's rare, right - I don't remember seeing one before. Grr... Oh, wait! I know. Oh, I'm such a genius. I'll get both of them! And I have the perfect plan, too. Come here, Duskie...". Bringing Duskull up to her mouth, she whispered something into its... ear? Rather, into the side of its... head? Body?

A few moments later, Duskull floated up, nodding at Charlie, who in turn flashed a thumbs up before rising from the tall grass. "Okay, Duskull! Like we planned - get that Ekans with your Night Shade! I'll handle the other one!". With that, the trainer and her pokémon both sprung into action - rushing their designated targets. Duskull charged at Ekans, firing off Night Shade after Night Shade as it approached. Charlie, on her part, had sighted a large, sturdy branch on the fallen log. As part of her charge, she threw herself at it, snapped it and swung it around like a club, humming 'Flight of the Valkyries' as she went. Sneasel, taken completely off guard by the sight of a charging human, only dropped its arms and stared as Charlie approached. "Nanana-nah-naaaah!", cried the blonde-haired girl as she spun around and launched a mighty, underhanded swing and struck Sneasel right in the jaw. The clawed little was sent flying, cartwheeling through the air until it struck the side of a strategically placed tree. "Home run!", yelled Charlie, jumping with glee as Sneasel slid down the blackened trunk. She readied her impromptu club again as Sneasel climbed to its feet. When it turned around, its eyes were alight with avenger's fury. Over on the other side of the log, Duskull was locked in a fierce yet one-sided battle with Ekans. The snake launched itself into the air time and time again, but Duskull hovered just outside its reach.

Night Shade upon Night Shade struck the ground around Ekans - it dodged to the best of its ability, but could not entirely avoid getting hit. Duskull, on the other hand, was doing fine. It too was hit once or twice, but with immunity to Ekans' Wrap and resistance to its Poison Sting, it was easily able to shrug off the damage and keep firing. "Duuuuhsk, Duushk, Duuuuhskuuuuh~!", it cried to Ekans, telling it to surrender. "Ekanssss!", came the answer, a defiant refusal, as the snake pokémon launched its Poison Sting once again, continuing its futile struggle. It was so hurt it could barely aim straight, and the attack was a complete flop. Instead of Duskull, Ekans ended up hurling itself at a rock. Rising, it swayed unsteadily from side to side, eyes spinning. Then came a pokéball from out of nowhere, striking it on the head and engulfing the snake in its cyan light. Without so much as the time for a last cry, Ekans was sucked into the pokéball, which then began to wobble and glow. Duskull turned around, expecting the beaming radiance of its masters proud face - its eye sockets widened in surprise. A few metres away, stumbling forth and supported by a badly damaged branch, was Charlie. Her legs shook comically, her clothes torn, her hair frazzled, her navy cap askew and her face full of scratches. "Never...", she began, but had to stop to catch her breath, "never attack one of those with a stick. Claws. Oh, god, the claws". She let the sentence trail off, before she let go of her walking stick and fell on her face. "Such pain I'm in", came her muffled voice. Duskull rolled around in the air, laughing.

The one time she's actually early for something.

The one time! And the dude was late, Angela scowled closing her eyes and folding her arms behind her head in a careless manner, she was trailing behind the assistant who was to lead the group to the lab, ignoring the other's that were there but she was still attentive. I wonder what dad's doing right now. A small smirk graced her features. He's probably wondering what I'm doing... or worrying.. or bawling his eyes out to poor Gale. Gale was her father's partner, a Wartortle he's had since his trainer days, those two were and still are inseparable another sigh escaped her lips and she wondered when the heck they would see the professor "So boring" she mumbled lowering her cap, so it covered her face "I wish something would happen already."

Coincidentally, something did happen after she muttered that statement.

An argument broke out between the anxious teens "Ooh, I just hate this tense atmosphere!" Angel didn't lift her cap, too lazy to move it from its current position, she just listened to the girl complain.

"Yea, well, at least we won't need to deal with that when we finally get out of here,"

"You know that the Darkness exists all over Kanto! If we're not careful, we could get hurt."

"If you're so afraid of danger, why did you decide to become a Pokémon trainer?"

Angel decided to tune out the rest of the conversation and yawned loudly, ignoring the two and leaving them to their squabbles "When the heck are we going to get there" she huffed raising her cap to glance at their surroundings, noticing they had finally made it to the laboratory "Thank Mew" Angel muttered as she watched Oak rush towards them with a tray of Pokéballs and Pokédex's.

Angela great fully accepted the ball and softly thanked the professor. Oak then made his way to stand infront of the trainers and began to give his spiel "Today is a very important day for you young trainers, although I wish this day would have come under different circumstances. Your here today to begin your quest to save Kanto from the control of the Dark Brotherhood, but you must listen to this warning, once the leader of the group knows of your existence, he will try to persuade you to join his cause. If you deny him then he will have you and your Pokémon executed. At your current state you would stand no match against him, he is ruthless and his Pokémon are all corrupt and full of evil, he will most likely come after you immediately while you are weak so you do not get to strong. "

Angel had to bite back a yawn, so she wouldn't seem rude as she listened to the professor talk, the girl hated standing around and listening to people talk for a certain amounts of time. She watched as he point to a map of Kanto "This is what Kanto currently looks like covered in Darkness, currently you are here, in an underground lab under Pallet town where my old lab used to stand. Your first mission is to make it to Viridian city and go to the old Viridian Gym there you will find a hidden door that will lead to the Clan of Hopes hideout, show the man at the door your Pokédex he will let you in, after this wait for a man named Zypher to come to you. That is all take care young trainers, and let light lead you all"

It was then he sat down at his desk and Angela assumed it was over, since the other trainers began to leave or stayed behind to admire their new Pokémon, Angel however waited until she had gotten outside to see her new partner "Come out!" Angel tossed the ball down and the Pokémon popped out with a musical snap and she watched as the white light began to take shape.

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon Path to Light or Darkness

It was a Pikachu, it was a small chubby rodent with short, yellow fur, brown stripes on the back, black-tipped ears, along with an unusually shaped tail, resembling a lightning bolt. Angel also noticed this Pikachu however had a strange Thunderbolt shaped mark running from the top of its right eye to the lower par of it and every time the Pikachu blinked, the scar would connect and take the form of a bolt.

"Bolt"

"Chu?" The Pikachu looked at its new trainer and blinked, was she addressing him "Your nickname" Angela clarified "Its Bolt, cause you just seem to be deck out in them" Bolt, nodded slowly still a bit perplexed but he understood what she was saying "Alright then Bolt lets get started on this adventure" Angela held out her arm and he climbed up her shoulder, resting comfortably on his new travel spot.

When the two began to set off to Route 1 however, Angel couldn't help but shiver at the ominous feeling of it all, she had never seen a place look so… dead before "Just what in the name of all things sacred could do such a thing" she muttered to herself, nothing seemed alive outside, everything was so… so… so lifeless "Is this what the darkness has done to the world?" she rubbed her bicep nervously and Bolt, sensing his trainer's distress nuzzled her cheek comfortingly "Pikachuuu" he cooed "I'm okay Bolt, thanks for the concern… lets go" she mumbled walking forward.

M@xWeru: Good post! Charlie Caught a lvl 3 Female Ekans.

ShadowYashi: That was a good intro post! Angela recieved a lvl 5 Male Pikachu, 5 pokeballs, and a pokedex.. Now go on and post chapter 2!

"Darkness brings power, but power corrupts, those who truly wish to embrace the darkness must allow themselves to become corrupt."

She remembered hearing that somewhere, but from who, Angel couldn't for the life of her remember and at the moment, she could care less, this forest was giving her negative vibes to the extreme, everything about this place seemed wrong and she felt eyes on her "Hey Bolt you feel that?" she whispered to the Pikachu resting on her shoulder, glancing around at the trees. He felt it too, something's there, they were just unsure what exactly Angel decided to just ignore whatever it was that was tailing them and maybe they'd just give up and go on about their business.

The forest life looked so creepy, she felt like she were in one of those cheesy horror films and this was the creepy forest she would most likely get killed in. The branches looked wilted and disfigured, adding more onto the creepy effect, because when the light hit the trees just right and a shadow reflected upon the surface, the branches looked like hands ready to grab her.

This place seemed to reek of despair and she couldn't help but wonder how Pokémon could live in this type of environment "Oh what am I saying" she murmured aloud "I live in this world… I see this stuff everyday" she laughed to herself, ignoring the stares from a kid she passed "But still" she added softly "It seems like such a sad place to live in" Angel looked towards Bolt "Hey Bolt… you think you'd ever live in this place?"

"Pika" Bolt shook his head no, he didn't like this place it was too…

"Gloomy"

"Pika…chu?" Bolt was wondering how she did that, he was caught off guard with her answer, which finished his thought… could… could Angel speak Pokémon? Bolt shook his head at the thought, it would be impossible, no human could understand their language but Bolt had decided, that Angela was a strange girl.

"Hey Bolt, how'd you get that scar on your eye, did you like fight with a Raichu or something and lose?"

Bolt didn't reply to his trainers innocent question and Angle wondered if it were a hard topic for him to discuss "It's alright if you don't wanna tell me… I'll just figure it out myself, you are my Pokémon Partner after all" she gave a lazy grin "I'm sure we'll wind up learning so much about each other in no time" Bolt just blinked at her before turning his head back forward, keeping watch of anything suspicious.

10 minutes had passed their stalker didn't give up much like she had hoped, not really one to just start conflict, Angel decided to give the trailer a chance, she turned "Alright, this isn't funny, I know you've been following us, so come out and maybe I won't have my buddy Bolt over here fry you like bacon"

There was a snap coming from their right side and Angel only saw a flash of red before whatever it was disappeared from her line of vision "Hey! What was that" she gasped, watching as the blur darted through the grass before leaping onto the dead trees, it sat in a tree directly infront of Angela and Bolt, Leering down at the two "Sneasel!"

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon Path to Light or Darkness

"A Sneasel! What the heck did we do to piss it off?" she exclaimed stepping back slightly from the aggressive looking Pokémon. It was black and had bright red feather-like growths on its left ear and lower back. The Sharp Claw Pokémon scowled at Angel and leaped off the tree, with its claws extended and in the blink of an eye, Bolt was no longer on her shoulder, he had taken a claw to the stomach, but he was now on his back, skidding a good foot away from her, with Sneasel right behind him, a trail of white trailing behind it.

"That's Quick Attack, no wonder it was able to hit Bolt without both of us realizing it" she said. Crap, Sneasel are know for their speed, I need to do something of Bolt won't last. "Bolt, get back up and use Thundershock!" Bolt quickly bounced back on his feet and nodded, letting loose a charge of electricity, his cheeks sparked violently "Snease!" Sneasel shocked both Bolt and Angel as he countered the attack, by thrusting a claw forward and absorbing the electricity, electricity danced on it's claw and in one fluid motion Sneasel crossed it's claws in an X-formation, the electricity had traveled from one claw to the other, both were glowing electricity danced along the sharp claws. Sneasel then smirked and charged at Bolt, with a golden, electricity encased claw, causing both their eyes to go wide "Sel!" Sneasel bought both his claws around, in a vertical slash and used Scratch catching Bolt in the side and sending him tumbling into a rotted tree.

"Bolt! Are you okay!?"

"Chuuuu" Bolt groaned and slowly got back up on all fours, his cheeks sparking and he glared at the Sneasel, who smirked haughtily at him and poised his claws in a taunting 'come' manner "Pika!" Bolt charged at Sneasel and rammed him in the stomach with his head, thoroughly annoyed with the Sharp Claw "Chu!" Sneasel seemed unfazed by the attack, only wincing slightly before sticking his tongue out at the rodent "Sneasel Snea" he taunted "Alright Bolt, use Thundershock" Bolt nodded and fired off a bolt of electricity at Sneasel, who danced out of the way from the attack "Sneasel!" Bolt scowled and ran after the Sneasel, with his cheeks sparking violently "Easel!" Sneasel began leaping back away from the sparking Bolt, who then fired off another as he ran after the Sneasel.

This little game of chase kept on for a few minutes, with Bolt chasing after and firing snippets of electricity at Sneasel, who just continued to dance and dodge the attacks and occasionally scratch Bolt "Pi…Pi…Pika" Bolt was standing before Sneasel, who's back was up against a tree. At the rate this is going, Bolt might wind up tiring himself and Sneasel knows it… perhaps I should catch it when its attention is on Bolt. "I've got it! Bolt, one more time use Thundershock!" Bolt nodded and he shot another bolt of electricity at Sneasel, who dodged it by clambering up the tree its back was up against and standing on a branch "Now!" Angel quickly pulled out a Pokéball and tossed it towards the Sneasel "Snease" its eyes narrowed and with it's claws, Sneasel lashed out on the ball, but instead of batting it away like it had planned to do, it accidently pressed the button, causing it to be sucked into the offending ball, which fell to the ground and began to shake violently as the capture tried to escape.

I hope this works.

ShadowYashi: Hmm Good post! I liked how you explained being followed and the environment. Angel caught a lvl 4 female Sneasel!

HERE IT IS CHAPTER 3!
(PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT POSTED CH 2 LIKE PIKA WILL JUST HAVE TO CATCH UP...)

Chapter 3
The unforgettable meeting

POST 1

Virdian city a few years ago used to be the main stop for trainers on there journey, to receive there final gym badge. Now it's nothing more then a desolate almost completely uninhabited town. As you walk through out the run down town, you see several buildings that are ether rubble, or barely standing, you start to wonder to yourself how one person could do this much damage on his own. Emotions start to flow through your body, some of you will feel saddend and have a feeling a hope that you could be the one to lift this dark veil from Kanto, while a few others may not really care about the darkness and what it's done, all you really care about is becoming a tough trainer no matter what you have to do. You finally notice a building that looks old on the outside but it is still firmly standing, and you decide to check it out. As you enter the building you look around to notice, other trainers gathering in front of a machine, and it's here that you find you can heal your pokemon like a pokemon center used to do. It seems that someone has built a pokemon center disguised as an old run down building in hopes that trainers would be able to hide out here and heal there pokemon.

What to do in Part 1:

 • Describe your surroundings, feelings etc.
 • Find an item.
 • Check out the old run down house that turns out to be a pokemon center.
 • Even enjoy a quick battle with one of the trainers inside.
POST 2
Upon leaving the pokemon center you spot the virdian gym in which you are supposed to go into and find the secret entrance into the Clan of Hope, for your meeting with Zypher. (EACH OF YOU ARRIVE AT SEPREATE TIMES SO YOU DO NOT SEE THE OTHERS IN THIS POST) As you walk towards the door you are jumped by three men wearing black cloaks over there entire bodies, and covering there faces. They speak to you about the darkness in which they have embraced under there master Beo in order to become truly powerful which is what Beo has promised them. They then start to laugh, and quickly get serious again, they tell you that they can ether kill you and your pokemon there... Or you can join the Dark Brotherhood, if you wish to become the best and most powerful trainer ever. The choice belongs to you ether stand and fight for justice, and light, or give into to the corrupt and dark.

What to do in this post:

 • Talk about the arrivle of the two figures
 • Have a disscussion with them
 • Finally make the choice that will affect your future forever.
If you chosse to stand and fight you will be facing these pokemon:

Max sighed as the ghost continued to follow him along the route. It had been a little while since they had been on the route and the ghost kept following him, occasionally touching his shoulder which creeped him out even more. 99.9% of rapists start with the shoulder. someone had once told him.

Then, the bushs next to them started moving. Max jumped and turned to face it. The ghost kept moving and went straight through him. Max shivered as his whole body felt like it had just been frozen. Then, a purple snake came slithering out of the bushs. Max took out his Pokedex and scanned it.
[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon Path to Light or Darkness

Species: Ekans, the snake Pokemon.
Entry: It sneaks through grass without making a sound and strikes unsuspecting prey from behind.

Max sighed and then gulped. He didn't really want to catch it, so he decided to battle it.

"Uh. Gastly use Hypnosis." Max said.

Gastly turned towards the snake and then mysteriously sent rings of purple out at the snake. The rings hit the ekans, and it lulled to sleep. Max gulped and then scratched his head.

"Now use Lick."

Gastly dove at the Pokemon happily and stuck his huge red tongue out. Then he licked the sleeping snake, causing it to wake up. The snake slithered awya quickly and then turned back around. Then he leapt at Gastly, which really confused Max. Snakes had no feet so how could the leap? Then, the snake tried to curl itself around Gastly, but it foregot Gastly was a ghost and only tnagled itself in to a knot.

"Gastly use Lick." Max said.

Gastly stuck his tongue out and licked the Pokemon constantly. The Ekans looked like it was going to cry, but it didn't. Instead it shot out bright purple needles, which Max knew were full of poison. They hit Gastly, and caused him to fall to the ground, but he then got right back up.

Max sighed as he was getting really bored and motioned for Gastly to use Lick again. The battle kept raging on with Gastly licking the tangled up snake, occasionally using Hypnosis and then Lick to lick the sleeping, tangled snake. Eventually it became to much for Max, so he took Gastly's Pokeball and returned him.

A bright red light shot out of the Pokeball and hit Gastly, engulfing him inside. Max sighed and turned around and began to continue down the route, leaving a knocked cold out snake lying on the route ground.

(Sorry its kind of short)

"Welcome to the PokeCenter, Tai!" Chimed a nurse as a teenager entered a PokeCenter disguised as a run-down building.

"Hey, Nurse. You're looking lovely today" The teen responded to the nurse, leaning on the counter before handing her two Pokeballs. The teen had medium- short black which was spiked up in a messy fashion and looked as though he was around the age of 16. He was wearing likes to wear a black T-shirt with a red 'Kyogre' symbol on the front and a white long-sleeved shirt underneath, as well as a pair of blue jeans. He also wore a black pair of indoor soccer flats. Around his neck rested a pair of square goggles. As the nurse worked in the back, he looked around the PokeCenter, taking note of everyone there. Most people sat in the make-shift center with gloomy faces on, a common thing
to see in these dark times.

After a few minutes, the nurse retuned to the front desk, giving back the two Pokeballs to the teen. "Here's your Pokemon back! Your Treeko looks great too, it should evolve in a little bit!"

Tai gave her a quick smile, before taking the Pokeballs and putting him onto his belt. "That's great!" He said. "Great! And it's really nice to see a cheerful face around here. It really takes your mind off of the "Brotherhood" for a moment."

"Well someone's got to do it!" She chimed with a bright smile on her face.

Tai turned to head out the door, but he quickly turned back, as if he had forgotten something. "Nurse, can you do me a favor..." He asked, pulling out a sealed envelope and placing it onto the desk. "A friend of mine sent down some new trainers, can you give this to one of them for me?"

The nurse took the letter off of the desk, "I'll be sure to!"

"Thanks Nurse, see ya." Tai waved as he exited.

A grin fell over Tai's face as he walked to the meeting place. He could only hope that whoever got the letter would meet him outside the remains of the old gym

(OOC: And the subtitle award goes to Wolfsrain!!! [*sniff* I'd like to thank the academy]

Viridian?

Grecko woke up after a nice long sleep and headed off towards Virdian City again. After another twenty minutes Grecko made it to Viridian City. "AAAHHH i made it!!!" Grecko exclaimed as he saw the sign. "Wow, maybe this really isn't Viridian..." Grecko sighed as he looked around and saw all of the destruction and chaos there.

Grecko wondered around the destructive city for a while when he noticed an old looking house that was still standing unlike the others, so he made his way there. Grecko opened the doors and realized that it was a pokemon center. "Hello there you must be another one of the new trainers, i'm nurse joy i can heal your pokemon." the nurse said with a smile. Feeling reluctant Grecko walked over and handed the nurse his pokemon. "Dooo Dooo Dooo Dooo Dooo" the machine said as it finished healing Greckos pokemon.

"Thanks nurse joy!" Grecko said as he took his pokemon back from the lady. He than walked over to the corner of the center and decided to send out his pokemon. "Squirtttt!" "Gulllll" the two pokemon chanted as they came out of the glowing light. "Alright guys" Grecko started, "Once we leave here were heading to Viridian gym so we can finaly lend a hand around here. I need you guys to be strong because i dont know whats going to happen. But no matter what happens and what choices i make, i need you to stick with me. Can you do that?" Grecko asked his pokemon.

The pokemon chanted and Grecko knew they would stick with him no matter what. All of a sudden Grecko noticed something moving supiciously aroun outside. He ran out the front door and as the door shut he realized he had been surrounded.....

Veridian City had been a ghost town for quite a while now, so it came to no surprise for Shaun that when he came across a desolate area. The area was slightly hazy with the darkness, but Shaun paid no mind. He wouldn't let this bother him. He would be the strongest trainer in the world, and he would do whatever it took...

There was one single building that looked as if it had been through hell and back, but it was standing, unlike quite a few building's. Squinting, Shaun could make out some movement. Curiously, he entered, and was surprised to see that it was in fact a worn down pokemon center. He saw a line in front of a healing machine.

"Thank Mew," Shaun muttered, going to stand in line.

"My thoughts exactly," a boy behind him said.

Shaun turned. The boy had bright blond hair and lime green eyes. He didn't have a cocky looking posture, nor a dark look in his eyes. He just seemed... plain. "And you are?" he drawled.

"Andrew," the boy answered. "Here to heal my pokemon before looking for a battle." He eyed Shaun. "And you?"

"Shaun, and I believe you've found your battle."

The two shared a grin and eagerly healed their pokemon before exiting the makeshift pokemon center.

"Two on two," Shaun told Andrew, nodding towards Andrew's belt that held three pokemon.

Andrew faltered, his eyes going to Shaun's belt that only had two.

"Something wrong?" Shaun asked.

Andrew shifted. "I just wanted to train all of my pokemon now before I had to leave. Wild pokemon are rather rare now..."

"There are other trainer's around," Shaun said in amusement. "If my pokemon can last, then yes, you can call out your third."

Andrew nodded in thanks. "Go, Sentret!" he called.

With a burst of white light, a tan colored pokemon with a large tail appeared. "Sen!" it called.

"Go, Sneasel!" Shaun called.

With a burst of white light, the dark colored pokemon appeared. "Snea," it sneered, lifting a claw and glowering at the nervous Sentret.

"Sneasel, Scratch!" Shaun ordered.

"Sentret, you use Scratch too!" Andrew called.

"Sne!" Sentret called, bounding over to Sneasel.

The dark type smirked and held his ground, claw shifting ever so slightly. As soon as Sentret jumped, it reacted. "Sneas!" Claws coming up at an angle, Sneasel sent Sentret flying backwards with some deep looking cuts.

"Seent!" Sentret cried in pain, landing hard on the ground.

"Sentret!" Andrew called out worriedly.

"Scratch again," Shaun ordered.

Andrew cast Shaun an annoyed glance, perhaps irritated that he hadn't been given time to properly worry about his pokemon. Shaun didn't care, this was a battle.

"Sneasel!" the dark type cried in glee, smashing its claws into Sentret.

The normal type screamed out in pain and, in a quick reaction, Scratched Sneasel back. "Sent!" Sentret cried out. In this time of era, Sneasel was its predator, and Sentret was its food source.

"Snea," Sneasel growled lowly, rubbing its stomach in irritation.

"Sneasel, Leer," Shaun ordered.

Licking its chops, Sneasel Leered down at a quivering Sentret. "Snea," it smirked.

"Sentret, Quick Attack!" Andrew barked.

"Sen!" Sentret cried ou in fear, becoming a blur and hitting Sneasel in the gut, causing the dark type to let out a gasp. It shook even more as it realized what it had done.

"Seas," Sneasel sneered, looking extremely dangerous and angry. it raised a claw threateningly.

"Finish it," Shaun urged.

"Sentret, Scratch!" Andrew called quickly.

"Sne snea," Sneasel chuckled, shaking his head in pity as the small normal type raised its small claws. Raising his own, Sneasel brought his claws down on the Sentret's head.

"Sent!" Sentret cried in shock, coughing up some saliva as it slumped into unconciousness.

"That's one scary pokemon," Andrew noted, recalled his pokemon.

Shaun nodded proudly. "Yes, he's very strong." Sneasel shot him a smirk and bounded over to his side when Shaun gestured him over. "Go, Bulbasaur!"

"Bulba!" Bulbasaur barked, appearing in a burst of white light.

Andrew threw his own pokeball, giving a confident smile. "Go!"

With a burst of white light, a small, grass type pokemon with a large leaf on its head appeared. "Chika!" it barked.

"A Chikorita," Shaun noted. "Bulbasaur, Tackle!"

"Saur!" Bulbasaur called as he began to charge.

"Razor Leaf!" Andrew ordered.

"Chika!" Chikorita called, swinging its giant leaf and launching many sharp leaves at the charging Bulbasaur.

"Sar," Bulbasaur grunted, wincing as the leaves beat against him, but otherwise ignore the attack as he was a grass type and kept charging. "Buls!" Tilting his head, Bulbasaur bashed his head right into Chikorita's.

"Rita!" Chikorita cried out in pain, getting pushed into the ground.

"Tackle back!" Andrew snapped quickly.

Grunting, the opponent quickly bashed back, sending Bulbasaur sliding back. "Chiko," Chikorita spat.

"Growl," Shaun ordered.

Baring his fangs, Bulbasaur let out an angry growl. "Saur."

"Razor Leaf," Andrew ordered.

Spinning its large leaf, Chikorita sent a barrage of sharp leaves towards Bulbasaur, though it did look rather pale from the Growl.

"Sab," Bulbasaur said with annoyance, shaking his head.

"Tackle!" Shaun barked,

"You use Tackle too!" Andrew ordered.

"Chiko!"

"Bulba!"

With their battle cries, the two pokemon met each other head to head with a vicious grunt. The two pushed at each other, determined not to give in.

"You can do it, Chikorita!" Andrew cheered for his pokemon.

"Bulbasaur, push!" Shaun barked. "Don't give in."

"Chiko..." Chikrorita said lowly, heartened by its trainer's cheering.

"Sar," Bulbasaur said, pushing harder. With its bigger body, Bulbasaur had more leverage and eagerly used it bigger body to push Chikorita away. "Saurr!" Bulbasaur roared, smashing his head down on Chikorita's.

"Chii!" Chikorita gasped, eyes going wide as shock temporarily took over.

"Finish it!" Shaun cried. "Tackle!"

"Bulbas!" Bulbasaur yelled eagerly, digging his feet into the ground and lashing out once more.

"Dodge!" Andrew cried.

"Chika!" Chikorita cried out in pain, getting launching into the air as Bulbasaur bashed his head into Chikorita's. "Rit...a," Chikorita gasped, landing harshly on the ground.

"Chikorita!" Andrew called worriedly.

"Saur," Bulbasaur said with pride, standing over the pokemon.

"So, wanna send out your third?" Shaun asked, a cocky grin on his face.

Andrew truly looked like he wanted to, but his eyes strayed over to a very healthy and bloodthirsty Sneasel and a smirking Bulbasaur. His pokemon couldn't beat these, especially since Chikorita, his strongest, was already done for.

"No," he said with a sigh. "Return, Chikorita," he said, recalling his pokemon in a beam of red light. "Maybe next time."

Shaun watched him go with disappointment.

"Snea," Sneasel called over to Shaun, gesturing for him to come over.

Curious, Shaun walked over an saw Sneasel pointing to a strange disk in a patch of dried bushes. He picked it up, believing it was a TM...

OOC: You said in the first part to find an item... I would like to have it be Shadow Claw or Shadow Ball at least, but if not I understand since it is early in the game. If so, I promise to make it seem that Sneasel is having problems controlling it. Also, how many posts are we allowed to do again for this part?

Wolfwhispers:Good post, Shauns one un emotional kids, from the looks of it. Guess will see what happens. Sneasel Grew to Lvl 7! Bulbasaur grew to lvl 8! Bulbasuar learned Leech Seed! Whats this Shuan found an item.. Its a tm shadow ball..

(OOC also theres one more post for this chapter.. and thats part 2.)

Tim0789: Good post, but it's kinda short, just make them longer, Guess will see what decisions Grecko was talking about.

"Here's the place," Shaun said to himself, eyeing the old, abandoned gym where he was supposed to meet this Zypher or something. Curiously, he walked inside, nose crinkling with distaste as he got a blast of dusty air blown his way.

Cautiously, Shaun walked through the gym, eyes wandering for anything worth picking up. He saw nothing, but all too soon he heard some dark chuckles. Swirling around angrily, Shaun glared at the three new people, his hand already over his pokeballs.

"Well, well," one drawled. The three of them were wearing dark clothes that even covered their faces. "What do we have here?" he asked to the others.

The other two began to circle him, and Shaun made sure his hand was held steady over his pokeballs. "Look's like we got ourselves a newbie trainer," another one drawled with a laugh.

"Jus' a little 'un," the last said, his voice rather seedy.

Shaun narrowed his eyes dangerously, an angry growl coming from his throat.

"Haha! Did you hear that!" the leader cackled. "It sounds like we got ourselves a rabied trainer! I wonder who does the battling? The trainer or the pokemon?"

"Go, Sneasel!" Shaun barked. "Shadow Ball them!"

With a burst of white light, the dark colored pokemon with red feather appeared. "Snea!" Sneasel snarled. Eyes lighting up at Shaun's order, it brought its claws together and focused on the black energy ball. With a smirk, Sneasel lifted his eyes to meet the startled black clad people and unleashed the attack.

"Get down!" one of them shouted.

The three figures all dove out of the way, and as soon as the Shadow Ball hit, the whole building began to shake and blow dust everywhere. When it calmed, the three men carefully stood.

"Well, it seems we don't have a rabied trainer, but a little darkling instead," the leader said. Shaun could clearly hear the smirk.

"A what?" he asked.

The man tilted his head. "A darkling," he repeated. He leaned down, closer to Shaun, but Shaun moved back. "You're like us. You seek power, and the Darkness doesn't bother you, but instead empowers you."

"Nothing does anything to me," Shaun snarled. "I get my own power my way. "

The three men chuckled. "You don't understand, do you, boy? The Darkness, the power that Beo has bestowed upon us..." The man paused to take in a deep breath. "It is intoxicating. We can show it to you, we can make you great. You want to be powerful, boy? Come with us."

Shaun snarled at the man. "Prove it," he spat. "If you're so powerful, prove it."

Shaun could almost see the man grin behind the cloth. "Very well, go!"

With a burst of white light, a pokemon made out of a ball of gas appeared.

"Gaaastly!" it exclaimed, flying around in excitement.

"Go, Bulbasaur!" Shaun called, throwing out his grass type pokemon.

"Bulba!" Bulbasaur called, digging at the ground eagerly, excited for another battle.

"Leech Seed," Shaun ordered.

"Bulba." Nodding, a seed burst from Bulbasaur's bulb and was launching at Gastly, where it soo grew and began to sap Gastly of its strength.

"Gaast!" Gastly hissed.

"Gastly, use Night Shade!" the man barked angrily.

"Sag," Gastly said lowly, eyes glowing grey.

"Saur..." Bulbasaur shivered as the ghostly presence zapped away his strength.

"Bulbasaur, come back. Sneaselm Shadow Ball!"

Bulbasaur eagerly bounded back as soon as Sneasel took its place. "Snea!" Sneasel called, focusing on the dark energy in its claws. Sneering at the ball of gas for giving a wince of pain as the Leech Seed zapped at its strength, Sneasel let loose. "Easel!"

"Gastly, Night Shade!" the man told the ghost type angrily.

"Gas," Gastly snarled, eyes glowing grey and attacking Sneasel's health before screaming in pain as the dark sphere bashed right into it. "Gaaaas!"

"Snea," Sneasel winced, shaking his head. The attack hadn't hurt so much as irritated, him being a dark type and that attack being a ghost attack. He was stronger, and thus wasn't so fazed.

Gastly, on the othert hand, was incredibly weak against the attack. Sadly, it was the only attack he knew that would hurt the ghost type, but it was still effective, nevertheless. The poor ball of gas was writhing around in pain from not only the Shadow Ball, but from the Leech Seed that was still taking affect. Sneasel sneered at the ghost type, a pokemon weaker than he. In this time of Darkness, Sneasel's type, the dark types, were reigning supreme. While he didn't understand while the Darkness was giving him strength and anger, he still knew he had to use it to his advantage.

"Finish it with another Shadow Ball," Shaun commanded.

Sneasel flashed a smirk and fired the Shadow Ball. Sneasel liked his trainer. He understand the time they were in, and knew how to use the situation to his advantage. Not to mention that he was nearly as ruthless as he, but with the restriction of the few human morals that he still held onto...

"Snea!" Sneasel said happily, jumping out of Gastly's eye range as it tried another Night Shade. It failed, and once more the Leech Seed took affect.

The man gave an angry grunt. "Get up, Gastly!" he spat angrily.

"Gass..." Gastly said weakly, the gas-like fire flickering weakly around its body as it closed its eyes. It had taken one too many of the super effective attacks.

"Gastly, return. Go, haunter!"

With a burst of white light, a new ghost appeared, and this one had feline characteristics. "Haunter!" it cried out happily, It floated around, eyeing everything curiously before it took in Sneasel. It gave a nasty grin to the dark type.
[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon Path to Light or Darkness

"Bulbasaur, Leech Seed!" Shaun barked out.

"Haunter, Hypnosis before it hits you!"

"Haunter!" the ghost type cried, sending out a ring from its mouth right at Bulbasaur.

"Bulbas!" Bulbasaur cried, quickly launching the seed from its bulb before the Hypnosis hit. "Bulba... saur," Bulbasaur said with a yawn, eyes closing as it fell asleep.

"Bulbasaur, return," Shaun said just as the man barked out, "Night Shade!"

"Nea," Sneasel winced, shaking a bit as its energy was sucked away before letting out a sigh of relief as the Leech Seed took affect, taking away Haunter's health and giving it to Sneasel.

Shaun smirked. "Look's like that weak attack won't work. Sneasel, Shadow Ball!"

The man scoffed. "Don't get cocky, brat. Hypnosis!"

"Snea sel!" Focusing the energy between his claws, Sneasel gave Haunter an ugly look as he jumped over the ring headed right at him and pretty much jumped right over Haunter. "Sease!" Sneasel threw the black sphere, hitting the feline ghost right in the head.

"Haaauunter!" Haunter cried. The ghost tyoe had looked up, mouth wide open in a cocky smile, but just ended up swallowing the Shadow Ball.

"Snea." Sneasel brought up a claw to his mouth as soon as he landed, as if covering up a smile. The dark type pokemon was shaking from laughter as the Haunter's body was literally seizuring. The gassy body was bubbling, and the ghost type looked like it was in pain.

Shaun was doing no better. In fact, he was openly laughing. "What a way to go out!" he said loudly as he clutched his stomach in mirth.

The man turned to Shaun, and looked as if he wanted to hit him. "Haunter, Night Shade!" he barked.

"Haun..." Haunter hissed through the pain, eyes glowing as it attacked Sneasel with its mind.

"Sneaa," Sneasel hissed lowly, shivering a bit from the attack. "Eas!
he spat, shaking his head and lifting his claws readily.

"Sneasel, don't give in! Shadow Ball!"

"Hypnosis," the man spat.

"Don't get hit!" Shaun said loudly, knowing that he was done for if his last pokemon went to sleep. His eyes flickered over to the other men, noting that they had rather bulky arms. Shaun wondered if they were simple grunts...

"Sne," Sneasel said with a sigh, look on its face clearly telling Shaun that he wouldn't do less. "Sneasel!" Jumping over the Hypnosis ring, Sneasel fired the Shadow Ball.

"Anter," Haunter hissed, eyes glowing gray as it tried to get one last attack on Sneasel. "Haaaunter!" Haunter cried, black sphere of power bashing into its body and taking away its strength.

"Snea," Sneasel spat, shaking his head once more as the ghost attack tore at his mind. With angry eyes, Sneasel turned to glare at Haunter as the Leech Seed took the last of the Haunter's strength away.

"Hant..."

The man shook with barely controlled rage. "Haunter, return."

Shaun gestured for Sneasel to cover him, just in case the men tried to do bodily harm. "Where's this strength of your?" he asked with a sneer. One man made to say something, but Shaun interrupted him. "Where's this strength?" he demanded again. "You're nothing more than grunts, aren't you?" he asked with a sneer. "The lowest of the low. You got nothing with this supposed strength. If you truly want to show me something, prove it to me with real power," Shaun spat.

The man looked ready to jump him, but one malicious look from Sneasel had them back down.

"Get out," Shaun said with a deadly quiet. "Get out, and don't you dare come back until you can truly prove to me this darkness has power."

The man moved back, his voice dark. "You know nothing of the Darkness, and because you defied us, you will never recieve it."

Shaun yawned. "I highly doubt that, grunt," he said, pleased that the words made an impact with the man. "And I don't even care. I can get power for myself," he said with a sneer. "So next time another one of you comes, you'd better prove to me if this darkness even has power."

"You little..."

"Sneasel, Shadow Ball!" Shaun snapped.

The men blanched and took off.

"Snea," Sneasel said with a vicious smirk, the dark sphere glowing in between his claws. Looking up, Sneasel licked his fangs and tossed the Shadow Ball at the fleeing men.

Shaun watched them, furious at these men threatening him. Although he had won, he knew that more powerful... whatever they were men... would come back. He sure hoped so. He wanted to see what this supposed power was, and see how it could benefit him. If not, he would take out whoever got in his way of becoming the most powerful pokemon trainer.

And as Shaun walked away, deeper into the abandoned gym, he never felt the pair of dark, black eyes that followed his every move...

Chapter 3 - Part 1 : A Reacurring Nightmare

Gage had been traveling all night in order to make up for the time wasted during his battle so when he got to Viridian City it was roughly 5 am. Among the rubble and ruins of the completely destroyed town Gage notices a rundown destroyed house and he figured it might make a good shelter. He dragged his feet to the building and when he opened the door he heard I high pitched happy voice say " Hi! Welcome to the Viridian City pokemon center. How may I help you today?" Gage stood slightly dumbfounded ".... Wha? Are you for real right now? This was a crappy little shack .... God I really need some sleep..." Gage trudged in thew his pokeballs on the desk said " Take these....." and then curled up on a small couch in the corner of the room and fell asleep.

Gage woke up in utter darkness, he looked around him and yet he saw nothing. All around him he heard screams of pain. Suddenly he realied he was a little kid agian, in front of him he saw a raging heard of bull-like pokemon rushing at him making loud stomping noises. Behind him he heard to old but familiar voices frantically arguing. " Honey there's no way out, what are we going to do?" A deep manly voice responded " The last thing we can try to do is save Gage, get him in the trunk."

Gage remembered this, this was the day his parents died. He screamed frantically at the top of his lungs " NOO NOO RUN AWAY DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE AGAIN!" His mother started hushing him down whispering slowly " Shhhh don't worry shhh.... We just want you to be safe just in case, don't worry everythings going to be okay." Gages tears subsided " I love you so much mommy." he said and his mother smiled " I love you too Gage." and she closed the trunk. Even though Gage knew what was going to happen he believed her and then he heard the trampling get much much closer. He heard his mother and fathers frantic screaming of pain and he knew it was too late for him to do anything, so he just screamed.

He woke up to nurse joy shaking him " Wake up! Are you okay?". Gage realized he had been screaming in his sleep again " I'm so sorry, I must've had a nightmare." He said embarassed. The young nurse said " No worries it happens to the best of us you were just frightening some other patients." Gage looked around and even though he noticed there was only one other person in the hospital he apoligized again. The nurse handed hm his pokemon and then walked off.

Gage leaned up and tried to wake himself up again but from behind him he heard a very afeminate voice say " Well hi there sweety I saw you have a bit of a nightmare a second ago and couldn't help but notice the necklace you have, it's quite beautiful." Gage looked down on his necklace " Why thank you, it belonged to my mother but for some reason I haven't found a ball that will fit in it." He turned around to see a beautiful woman with curly blonde hair smiling at him.

His jaw dropped open and all he could do was stare. She realized how distracted she was and said " How about a little two on two battle? If I win I get that necklace of yours and if you win I give you this little Tm I found under a log the other day." Gage snapped to attention " No no.... I couldn't, my grandfather gave this to me." he said. " OHH PAAALEEEEEZ? Pretty please with sugar on top, come on sweety dont be a meany!" She begged. Blushing slightly Gage replied, "Well I guess it won't kill me."

"YAY I'm so excited!" She exclaimed " By the way my names Jacklyn!" she added. " Nice to meet you, and you can call me Gage." He said as seriously as possible " Now go Spoons!" he yelled while throwing out his pokeball. The small golden creature came out of the ball and yawned. " OH MY GOD if that isn't the CUUUTEST pokemon EVER!" she squeeled " I guess it's my turn now, go Romeo!" Out of her ball came pokemon spinning on its head " HITMOOOONN ..... TOP!" it yelled.

Gage pointed his pokedex at the spinning pokemon," It fights by spinning like a top. The centrifugal force boosts its destructive power by ten. Evolves from tyrogue at level 20 when both attack and defence are equal" Gage had no idea what to do, with spoons he has the type advantage but the level difference is rediculous, the only way he could possibly win is by outwitting them.

" Romeo, use your rolling kick attack!" commanded Jacklyn, the small pokemon started spinning at high speeds yelling " Tops, tops, tops, tops." Gage knew this atttack would be a one hit KO if it made contact with spoons so he yelled " Spoons use teleport going around Romeo as fast as possible, and do it in the opposite direction he is spinning. " You got it bossman." Said Spoons. The faster Spoons teleported around the Hitmontop the faster he felt he was spinning. " You see its an optical illusion, the faster my pokemon goes around yours the faster yours feels like its spinning!"

The Hitmontop began to slowdown until it came to a full halt and started shaking its head back and forth in a dizzy fassion." Awwe Romeo, what're you doing?" But it was too late. The hitmontop had spun much to quickly and was now dizzy. "Quickly! Spoons use your tackle attack!" the small golden humanoid slammed into the dizzy hitmontop knocking it into a wall, its whole body went limp and it went completely unconcious.

" Awwes, we'l at least i have my next pokemon to use... Go Juliet!" Jacklyn threw a styled pokeball at the ground and out of it came a pink cat-like creature. " MEEEOWWW" said the pokemon. Once agian Gage pulled out his pokedex and aimed it at the pokemon " Skitty- The kitten pokemon, It cant help but chase moving things, it chases its tail constantly." said the small red box. " Juliet use your double slap attack!" The small kitten started slamming its tail at Spoons hitting it over the head agian and agian.

Gage was caught off guard, " Quickly Spoons use your teleport!" he yelled, and yet there was no response whatsoever from his pokemon. " Spoons are you there buddy? Use you teleport, or tackle, or something!" but this time spoons turned around and stared at Gage " But Gage, shes so pretty I mean just look at her." Whispered the psychic, and Gage knew exactly what had happened; the Skittys Cute charm activated and now his Spoons was infactuated.

"Awwe how cute, does your little pokemon have a crush on my Juliet?" said Jacklyn. " I guess he does...." came Gages response. " Well I'm sorry to do this but, tackle attack now Juliet!" The cat pokemon smashed into Spoons with a full body tackle knocking him completely unconcious. " Spoons return!" Gage sighed, " Well at least I get to try you out now" he said to a pokeball, " Go Angel!"

A small golden bird came out from the ball and confidently yelled " BLUUU!". Gage reares up and said" Angel quickly use peck attack!" And the small bird flew at its opponent pecking away at its head until it started crying out in pain. " Awwe, Juliet come on hun, fight back, show him your strength." but the kitten just kept crying out in pain. "Juliet, use tackle attack!" cried out Jacklyn. Juliet reared up its head and slammed into Angel shacking her whole body and knocking her to the ground.

" Hey you can do it Angel, get back up and fight, I believe in you!" Gage yelled. When Angel heard these words she leaned back up and took flight once more. " Now finish it, use your peck one last time!" he said and the swablu flew at the kitten pecking away at its head until it went completely unconcious.

The golden bird flew around Gage making happy noises and clicking with its tongue. " Good fight Angel, take a rest." Gage said. Jacklyn was still smiling " Wow, good fight kiddo, here take this" and she threw him a small disk like item. " Catch you on the flip side buddy!" she said as she walked out of the center.

" Well that was.... Interesting." Gage said as he made his way back to the main desk and handed the nurse his pokemon once more. " Time for some more sleep....."

(( OOC- If possible I'd really really prefer the TM to be Shadow ball, but if that's not okay then I will settle for charge beam, energy ball, or psychic, but preferably shadow ball, I just need something to take care of Ghastly and Haunter with Spoons))

Charlie trotted cheerfully along the trail, gleefully nuzzling Ekans as she went. The snake pokémon hung wrapped around the Vermilion trainer's neck and shoulders, looking very uncomfortable as it was tightly held and rubbed against its master's cheek. "Oooh! Ekans are so lovely", chirped Charlie, holding her new pokémon's head out before her face, she looked into its yellow stare with a dreamy expression of infatuation. Behind the two trailed Duskull, floating slowly after its two companions. The ghost pokémon hovered at a tilt, its arm-like tendrils hanging down toward the ground - it was obviously downtrodden, most likely envious of the attention being given to the newly caught Ekans. Charlie, on her end, seemed completely oblivious of this as she walked on, until she made a sudden turn back to Duskull. "And you, Duskie - how could I forget you?", she exclaimed and splayed her arms out. Duskull looked up, suddenly hopeful as it started for Charlie's open arms, happily waving its own tentacle-appendage-things. "After all, you helped me catch this beautiful Ekans!", she finished, and Duskull immediately crashed to the ground before a wide-eyed Charlie. The round little ghost twitched once, then once more before slowly rising from the ground, managing a tremendously convincing tear-filled face considering how little of a face it actually had. In confusion, Charlie scratched the back of her head.

Eventually, the trio traded the rotting grasses of Route 1 for the broken asphalt of post-darkness Viridian city, picking their way through the rubble, in no hurry. By now, Duskull had long decided that its trainer would never take a hint, and had forcefully wedged itself into the cuddle, at no protest from either side. Charlie still carried both her pokémon as she negotiated the wide streets of Viridian, displaying her inappropriately carefree disposition once again - she was singing. "Duskie and Ekans and me ~ on a great adventure. Beating up pokémon and stuffing them in balls of steel...", she sang out loud, but cut herself off. "...Or something ~", she continued after a few minutes of thoughtful silence. The situation was a tad confounding - she was supposed to find the Viridian gym, but they'd never been given any directions. Humming to herself, she ambled about the city at random, having no other choice than to look for the gym on her own. It was only a little while, however, before her search was interrupted. There was a run-down building just off the road, not really much different from all the other run-down buildings just off the road ...aside from the fact that she saw two people slip inside and, after a few seconds, another three leave the building. Smitten with curiosity, Charlie could to little else but step inside to see what was inside. Imagine her surprise as she found a more or less working pokémon center.

When Charlie finally left the pocket monster hospital, she wore her two occupied pokéballs on her hip. Stepping out into the chill, sunless city, she sighed to herself, folded her arms and leant on the building. She leant her head back and looked up at the cloudy skies, saturated with dull, dusty grey. She noted that it wasn't even particularly grey - even the greyest shades of grey were more colourful than the heavens of today. Now, Charlemagne wasn't a huge fan of the garish or gaudy (unless it had two wheels and over five hundred cubic inches to its engine), but that was a huge step from this. Tastefulness was well and good, but this was outright boring. She had nothing against self-serving organizations on principle, but she couldn't understand why these guys absolutely had to destroy everything in and out of their way. Getting through Viridian like this was a mess, and there wasn't a single nice view to her mind off the trouble. Her shoulders ached, too - that Ekans was heavier than it looked. Anyway - everything being dark had been alright at first, but now that she actually had to move through it on foot, she was beginning to feel an overwhelming desire to punch someone in the face. This wasn't what a pokémon journey should be like. Crossing her arms, she tipped her cap down over her face and pouted.

"What's this?", came a voice from somewhere beyond the obscuring peak. "Something wrong, little miss? Well, aside from the whole world being a piss-stained gutter, that is". Torn from her dreams of punching people in the face, Charlie freed her arms and pushed her cap back. In front of her stood a trainer, the archetype of your tall, handsome stranger. He was green-haired and fit, healthy-looking and dressed in an impeccably white short-sleeved shirt and pants. Pinned to his chest was a lifetime membership card from the Cooltrainer's Club, that mysterious society, open only to people who could get through a Muk assault without messing up their hair. The card read, "Preston Cunningham". Preston gave Charlie that tender look only given by supercilious-yet-caring veterans to beginners... who also happen to be cute girls. Looking back at him, she suddenly grew incredibly self-conscious about her frazzled hair and scratched-up face. "Naah", she replied with a flustered wave, "nothing aside from that ...and a little post-Sneasel soreness, I guess". Preston the Cooltrainer threw his head back and laughed heartily, hands on his hips. "Hahahah! Yeah, those Sneasel are a pain. You're a beginner, huh? Fresh out of Pallet, by the looks of it. How about I treat you to a practise battle? You'll need to level up your pokémon to get anywhere, after all".

A few minutes later, the two trainers faced each other over a heap of rubble that once had been the roof of the old pokémart, long since collapsed and pillaged. Preston had set up shop on an old table, spreading a bucketload of minimized pokéballs out across the dirty plastic. Charlie watched him in earnest admiration, and felt herself getting more psyched the longer she looked. She wanted to collect pokémon and battle! Oh, how she wanted it. Eyes burning, she raised her fists to her chin and squirmed in anticipation... though she quickly straightened up as Preston turned to her, a set of pokéballs between his fingers. "Alright", he said, "let's get started. You said you had an Ekans and a Duskull, didn't you? Those aren't the best starters, especially not with their first attacks. Hmm... Caterpie, come out!". There was a flash of light, and the little bug appeared, hopping around happily and squealing, free at last. "Now, Charlie, send out your Ekans and-", he began, but was cut off mid-sentence by a loud cry of, "Poison Sting!", and he watched with bulging eyes as the purple snake sank its fangs into the Caterpie. The bug pokémon did not so much as cry before it slumped to the ground, taken out by the poison. Calling it back, Preston scratched the back of his head and took out another pokéball. "Hey, um... I was going to instruct you, y'know".

Charlie chuckled in response, flicking Ekans' pokéball into the air and catching it as it fell. Lightly touching her chin, she struck a cool pose and glanced confidently at Preston. "Maybe I should tell you - I basically grew up at the Vermilion city gym. I might be a beginner, but sending out a Caterpie against me is akin to an insult". The Cooltrainer put his hands on his hips and laughed again, enlarging a new pokéball and leaning forward, grinning viciously. "Fine then, little miss. I'll skip the tutorial and get on with the real show", he proclaimed, tossing another pokéball out on the field. "Paras, get out there and do your thing". Charlie flashed a thumbs down in response and smirked. "I hope its thing is losing, Preston, cuz I'm about to put the squeeze on it. Ekans, Wrap it up nice and tidy, and we'll send it back with love!". Replying only with a hiss, her pokémon charged at the Paras and wrapped itself around its around its orange form, squeezing. The crab-like, fungus-infected little monster chirped in pain, but didn't even need an order before it solved the situation on its own. With a snip-snip, it stuck its pincer into Ekans' tender belly and pinched, provoking a loud cry from the snake, which immediately let go and fled. Cooltrainer Preston snickered as he watched Ekans being chased around the building by the much smaller Paras. "You don't necessarily have to mix up your moves just for variation. Paras is also weak against poison, you know - you should use that to your advantage. You'd better solve this quickly, though".

Growling, Charlie struck out with her arm and called for Ekans to use its Poison Sting again, but to no avail - with Paras hot on its tail, it didn't have time to turn around. The situation seemed hopeless, until Paras chased Ekans over a broken floorboard. Charlie could see the board sink when Ekans slithered over it and, as Paras followed, she stomped hard on the part closest to her. The reaction was immediate, as the other end erupted from the floor and sent Paras flying. "Now, Ekans! Sting it before it lands!". This time, Ekans didn't hesitate. Paras was down and out long before it had a chance to get to its feet. Looking up, Charlie's victorious grin turned into a strange grimace as she found Preston doubled over in laughter, fighting to draw breath. "Th-that must have been the most unsportsmanlike act I've ever seen!", he managed to communicate between gasps. Wiping a tear from his eye as he straightened up, he continued, "you're not really supposed to get involved physically in your pokémon battles, y'know. I don't mind it right now, and some people might not object, but you really shouldn't do that in official battles". Blushing, Charlie turned away and scratched her head, laughing. "Ah-hah-hah, of course. Silly me. Cheating is bad, after all". With a nod and a last chuckle, Preston bid her release her second pokémon.

"Duskull is a very tricky beginner pokémon", Preston explained, assuming a know-it-all posture. "You see, as a naturally floating ghost, it's hard to hit from the ground and immune to many of the attacks that low-level pokémon have, such as Scratch and Tackle. On the other hand, the only attacks it has are Leer and Night Shade. Now, Night Shade is not particularly powerful, but it is completely unaffected by resistances and other defences, so a Duskull will usually be able to simpy float around and zap other pokémon into submission. For example - Torchic, come out". The battle proceeded as expected, with Duskull chasing Torchic around the room and firing off Night Shades until its foe dropped. Meanwhile, the two trainers discussed the dos and don'ts of pokémon battling. Once Torchic was down, Preston returned it to its ball and fastened the container to his belt. "I've been thinking", Charlie put her index finger to her lower lip and gave the Cooltrainer a curious look, "you've been sending out your pokémon to battles you know they'll lose, but you haven't so much as thanked them afterwards. You don't seem to care a lot about your pokémon". Preston raised an eyebrow, frowning, insulted. "Don't ever tell a trainer he doesn't care about his pokémon, Charlie. While those who don't won't care, us who do don't like that sort of talk. I spend a lot of time with my pokémon - I don't waste time thanking them after every single battle".

It seemed as though the esteemed Cooltrainer really was hurt by that remark, because he sent out his next pokémon without warning or advice. "Chinchou! Bubble!", he yelled, and Charlie was taken completely by surprise. "Duuuusk!", cried Duskull as the bubbles hit home and exploded. "Ah! Duskull! Wait, use your Night Shade and try to get out the way of those bubbles!". It was a wild battle of agility versus endurance, as Chinchou had zero maneuverability but a much more powerful attack - again, however, it seemed as Preston had predicted the results of the battle. Eventually, Chinchou fell to the ghostly barrage and Duskull returned to its trainer, beaming with pride. "That's enough for the practise round", Preston stated, a threatening smirk on his face. "It's getting to be time to teach you something about the world at large - you remember what I told you about ghost pokémon being immune to normal attacks, right?". Charlie nodded, motioning for Duskull to step forth. Grinning, Preston threw yet another ball on the field. "Then let's see you beat this. Persian, it's time!". As the large cat pokémon appeared on the field, Duskull scowled at it and, at its trainer's command, let loose a Night Shade. There was a whistling sound, and the dark wave passed over the Persian with no effect at all. "Let me guess", said Charlie, "normal pokémon are immune to ghost moves?".

"Exactly", came the reply, "but there's something else, too. The first rule of combat is, always be prepared for surprises! Persian, Bite!". Like a streak of lighting, Persian flashed Duskull. It seemed to Charlie as though the cat barely touched her ghost with its teeth, but the attack was apparently effective none the less, as Duskull dropped to the floor like a rock. Calling it back, she watched as her newfound mentor struck a shonen pose, so incredibly stereotypical it would have put Team Rocket to shame. "Pokémon aren't restricted to moves of their own type - in such a fashion, a normal pokémon can beat a ghost". He paused to leave an opening for applause and admiration, but only got a sour look and a, "uh, yeah. Everybody knows that". Preston crashed to the floor, but recovered quickly and raised his pokéball. "Uh, well, I guess that concludes-", he tried to say, but was interrupted by the sudden reappearance of Ekans on the battlefield. "Oh no, you don't. I still have a pokémon left! Ekans, let's go!". Scratching his chin, Preston replied with an uncertain tone, "well, I guess that's okay, but I don't think you'll have much of a chance". Charlie, however, simply clasped her hands together with an ingratiating smile and said, "but I could never lose, having a great tutor like you!". For a moment, the Cooltrainer lost his cool and blushed, glancing aside as he scratched his head. "Well..."

That's about as far as he got, though, before Charlie capitalized on her clever tactic, using his lapse in concentration to send Ekans into a Wrap around Persian's neck. "Great work, Ekans - Wrap the crap out of that ugly old kitty! Strangle it! Hah hah hah! I bet you wish you had opposable thumbs now!", she shouted. Ekans dutifully constricted the cat pokémon's throat, cutting it off from its precious oxygen. Preston nodded his appreciation. "Not bad, not bad", he said. "However, this is where it ends. Persian, find some sharp gravel and roll around on it". Following orders, it only took a few seconds before Persian had knocked Ekans out. "Awww", whined Charlie, "well, you did a good job, Ekans. It was your first battle, after all". Once the red beam had absorbed the rookie trainer's snake, Preston called back his own pokémon and set about gathering up the rest of his pokéballs. "If this really was your first fight", he said, not looking up, "you didn't make a half-bad job of it. You don't have the strongest pokémon around, but I doubt that's your fault. In fact...", he turned around, having picked up the last of his pokémon. Digging around in his pockets, the Cooltrainer pulled his hand back up, closed around something. "I've got something here I think will help you out a bunch, and I'm prepared to give it to you, but only on one condition...".

Raising an eyebrow, Charlie folded her arms and looked up, wondering what on Earth this condition might be. She wasn't an utter retard, and could imagine a plethora of conditions she'd never agree to, and another plethora that were dependent on what he was planning to give her. "Well, let's hear it". She gave him a cold glare, wondering if he'd try to impress her by making her promise never to give up, or something corny like that. Thinking to herself that she'd honestly prefer just being flat out molested, Charlie steeled herself and awaited the reply. Preston seemed flustered all of a sudden, touching his index fingers together and looking down. "W-well, you have to show me... show me your, ah, ah...". Growling, Charlie turned to him with fire in her eyes and shouted, "snap out of it, man! I have to show you my-?". One hand on his neck, Preston jumped at the roar and grinned sheepishly. "Well...", he began, "please show me your phone number!". She crashed face-first to the ground. Climbing back to her feet before the still-grinning Preston, thinking to herself that it figures - it was only a pick up attempt after all - she handed the guy a hastily scribbled note. "Fine. Whatever. Have it, but if this isn't a really good item, I swear on my soul that you won't live to be a father". With those beautiful parting words, Charlie swiped Preston's item and left the building.

When, later that day, Cooltrainers' Club member-for-life Preston unfolded the precious slip of paper, he made his second face-plant for the day. In small, spindly letters, the note read, "Sorry. I don't have a phone".

(( I too, would like a Shadow Ball TM. I feel it is the only thing that could make Duskull useful )).

Max looked around the pitiful and desolate town...his heart sank at the sight of it. Buildings turned to complete rubble, he even saw a few buildings that stood just by a few beams that hadn't dry-rotted.

Max sighed and looked up to find a statue of what looked like someone familiar to him. Max sat there, staring at it trying to figure out who it was. Suddenly, he felt light-headed. Max fell to his knees, holding his aching head as it felt like it was throbbing and was going to explode at any moment.

He fell completely to the ground. Rubble poking at his bare skin. He was unconcious and was having the strangest dream ever. Gastly was inside his Pokeball, looking through it and staring at his unconcious trainer. He was worried about him.

---

Max's dream was very strange. He stood in a room of nothing but pitch black emptiness. His head was still throbbing, but not as bad. Something that sounded like music was putting him in a transe.

"Boss. He is here, in Viridian. We can recruite him if he isn't stubborn." a voice that sounded vaguely familiar said.

"He will join. Otherwise he will be destroyed. Recurit him, if you value his life and if he values his life" Another voice said. This voice sounded aweful, like nails being run down a chalkboard.

Max realized that the two were talking about him. His head throbbed even more and he began plummeting through the endless darkness, then he blacked out.

---

A few minutes later and Max woke up. Gastly had popped out of the Pokeball as Max started grunting about his head after the dream. Max returned Gastly and sat up. He was still light-headed, but his head wasn't throbbing. He closed his eyes and held his head in his hands.

"What do I do?" he muttered to himself. Finally, Max stood up and began to search through Viridian again. He looked everywhere to try and avoid anybody who looked like they wanted to talk to him about something.

Through his wondering he saw a machine with six holster slot in it. It looked just like the healer the Max's parents had at their ranch! Max then darted for the machine and placed Gastly's Pokeball in it. The Pokeball glew brightly and then turned back to normal colors and Max picked it up.

(I know it is very boring and very short but it was all I could think of...)

The Choice...

As Grecko stared vigorously at the three men in black that were surronding him he could feel a terrifying power. "Who the hell are, and what do you want?" Grecko asked in rage. "Now now now kiddie why don't you calm down and take a nap!" the biggest of the three black cloaked men said in laughter. "Wha..wh..w..t...zzzzzz" Grecko tried to let out as he began slipping further into a deep sleep, not realizing that a Haunter was using hypnosis. The three men laughed as Grecko fell unconcious.

When Grecko woke up he was tied up and hanging from a tree. "Ahh where the #$%! am I?" Grecko began yelling as he tried to escape from the tightly bound rope. All of a sudden the three men appeared with the Haunter and began to speak. "You are in the Viridian Forest, and you are here because we have a proposition for you. "A proposition! What do you think this is a corporate meeting? I dont have time to deal with you, i have to go see Zeypher at the Viridian....." That's when Grecko realized who the three men were.

"Your part of the darkness that fills this land...aren't you?" Grecko asked as he began to feel nervous. "Ahh you've finaly figured it out, were so proud of you you little twerp." the one man said. "Grrrrrr, Proffesor Oak said this might happen." Grecko stated. "Proffesor Oak is a crazed old fool who knows nothing!" the evil men said as they spat at the ground.

"Listen, I don't want any problems I just need to go on my journey for my father" Grecko said as he remembered everything his father told him. "You asked for problems once you took up this mission, now join us or die!" The big man yelled at Grecko. "No! I will never join you, NEVER!!!" Grecko yelled at in anger at the man. "Well then...I guess we kill you!" the man said as the other two men sent out there gastlys.

Seeing this Grecko reached and knocked out the pokeballs of Squirtle and gulpin and ordered them to let him down. Grecko being released from the ropes fell to the ground and realized his pokemon couldn't beat the Gastly's and Haunter because all they know are normal type attacks. The three men ordered there pokemon to attack but Grecko thought up a plan.

"Gulpin use yawn!" Grecko yelled to his pokemon. "Now Squirtle just try and stay away from the attacks until the ghosts fall asleep!" he than ordered his other pokemon. Not realizing what Grecko was doing the men decided to mock him, "Your a coward! All your doing is having your pokemon run away from ours! Your incredibly weak and maybe you wouldn't be of any use to us!" the men hollered as they started laughing at Grecko.

This comment angered Grecko and he ordered Squritle to do a tail whip. "SQUIRRT!" the pokemon yelled as it began to shake it's tail at the three ghost pokemon who came to a halt and just stared at it. "Gastly's use nightshade! Haunter use nightshade also!" the men ordered. "GAAAASSSSSSTTLLLY! HAAAUU HAAUNNNTERR" the pokemon yelled as they used there strongest attack.

"SQUIRRTTTTTLEEEE!" the pokemon yelled in pain as it took all three of the nightshades and flew into a tree. "Ahh, Squirtle are you ok?" Grecko asked as he ran over to check on his pokemon. To his suprise the Squirtle got up and looked ready for more. "Your pokemon is a fool! Just like you!" the big black cloaked man said as he began to order another attack from his Haunter. But to the cloaked mens suprise there pokemon were all three passed out on the ground.

"Haha woot!" Grecko hollered in happiness as he noticed his plan worked. "Good job Squirtle you two Gulpin!" Grecko yelled to his pokemon as he returned them to their balls. "What how did this happen!" the man began screaming at his two companions. Grecko watched as the men were arguing and decided to run off before they noticed. But just as he was about to make it past them another Gastly popped out of nowhere.

"What?" Grecko yelled in fear as he realized the men still had other pokemon. The big man walked over to him and grabbed his shoulder. "Hmm those kind of tactics you showed back there are just what were looking for, and if you join us the darkness will engulf you and make you stronger." the man said to Grecko who looked scared beyond belife. "Like I said before I will never join you, you will just have to kill me" Grecko than stated to the man as he began to laugh.

"Now why would we do that, you see we have a back up plan" the smallest of the three men said. "Ahh..." Grecko let out before pausing in shock. "You see we know you will do anything to help a friend or family member, and we know you would never want to see someone you care for get hurt" the big man said as the other two let out evil grins. "That's why we have a friend of yours who will die if you dont join us...and the bad part is youll have to watch him die" the man stated before pulling out a small electronic video device.

"No!" Grecko shouted as he tried to run but couldnt escape the mans grasp. The man then ordered him to look the screen and so he did. "My father!" Grecko yelled in agony as he realized they had the one person who meant the most to him, the one person he was fighting for. "WHY are you doing this!" Grecko than yelled as he realized he was running out of options. "Were simply falling our leader's orders so we can bath in the darkness some more!" the man said as he let out an evil chuckle.

"Now join us or I call in the order to kill your father" the big man than said forcing Grecko to make a decision. Grecko began to think to himself "(Dad, Squirtle, Proffesor Oak....i'm sorry ive failed you all....). Fine ill do it" Grecko told the men as he began to feel a part of himself fade away.

Within an instant second the forest began to turn dark and the three men and Grecko were engulfed in the darkness. Grecko just stared blankly as he realized he would never be the same.

"My father!" the kid yelled in agony as he realized they had the one person who meant the most to him, the one person he was fighting for. "WHY are you doing this!" he then yelled as he realized he was running out of options.

"Were simply falling our leader's orders so we can bath in the darkness some more!" the man said as he let out an evil chuckle. "Now join us or I call in the order to kill your father" the big man than said, forcing Grecko to make a decision. After a long, thought out pause, Greko finally gave in.

"Fine ill do it" Grecko told the men as he began to feel a part of himself fade away.

Within an instant second the forest began to turn dark and the three men and Grecko were engulfed in the darkness. The man slowly brought the radio up to his mouth, an evil smile still covered his face. "Sir, we've got him. he's on our side now..."

"Excellent!" The voice crackled over the radio, "Bring him to base. Beo wants to see our new 'friend'."

"With pleasure."The man replied, the grin stretching even farther across his face. "Team One out." He place the radio back on his belt. "Get him down!" The man ordered to the other two, pointing to Grecko. "He has an appointment which he can't afford to miss..."

(Btw, Tai is still waiting for anyone!)

Chapter 3 - Part 2: An Easy choice

This time when Gage awoke it was on his own terms, luckily for him he didn't have that dream again. He remembered about the Technical Machine he was just given and decided to check it out real quick before taking his pokemon back. He took a look at the disk case and on it it said TM- 30 Contains Shadow ball. "Finally!" He said " An attack for Spoons besides tackle and teleport!"

He excitedly made his way to the desk and asked one last time for his two pokemon back. "Thank you so much for everything Nurse Joy!" Gage said. Nurse Joys face turned red and she said " Oh no problem, I'm just doing my job. See you soon?" Gage laughed and said, "Of course!"

A few minutes later he was right outside the Pokemon Center Gage threw his pokeball in the air and yelled " Spoons I choose you!" Out of the ball came the eccentric Abra who turned around to face Gage, " Im sorry about the last battle, I don't know what came over me....." He said embarased. " Don't worry bud its happened to me too, next time we will just be more careful." said Gage as he pulled out the CD-like item and his pokedex. He loaded the disk into his pokedex and aimed it at Spoons.

Spoons Glowed and once the pokedex said that the move was fully learned Gage excitedly said " Spoons, use your new shadow ball attack at the boulder over there!" Spoons' hand glew purple and in his palm was a black sphere that he threw at the rock. The force of the rock hitting the orb caused it to completely shatter and nothing was left of it but dust. " Wow...." Gage and Spoons said at the same time. " Return Spoons." Gage said, he didn't want Spoons to tired when they got to meet Zypher face to face.

Gage once again began on his journey to the Clan Hope base, walking through town he now noticed all the destruction everywhere around him and got a bad taste in his mouth. " Seriously," he said, " Who does this kind of stuff, I mean who really benefits from destroying towns and killing innocent people?" Gage began to feel noxious, he couldn't even think about it without getting sick to his stomach.

Before he knew it he was right outside the base and with a stupid smile on his face he began to stroll up to the door without even paying attention to what was around him. All of a sudden he felt someone grab him on the shoulder and grab on tightly to him not letting him walk forward. " What do you want? Can't you see I'm busy here?" Gage said curtly. He turned to see two black cloaked men whos faces were veiled in shadow. " All we want is to talk for a minute." Said the larger of the two black cloaked men. " Make it quick." Gage responded slightly perturbed something about these guys were very fishy.

" You see we belong to a certian society, and our boss has been watching you for a long time, he wouldn't want you to waste your time with this so called Clan Hope." The smaller cloaked man said. It was then Gage realized who they were " I'm not interested" he said as he put Spoons' ball into his hand. " That's to bad, you showed so much potential, well then I guess if you wont join us, were going to have to destroy you, GO GASTLY! " said the larger one.

Out of his ball came a small gas-like orb pokemon which began flying around frantically. Gage didn't even bother using his pokedex, he just yelled " Go Spoons! Use your tackle quickly!". Spoons flew out of his ball and threw himself at Gastly with a full body tackle, which sadly was of to no avail, Spoons flew right through the pokemon and slammed against the wall. " Owy!" Spoons echoed in Gages head. " Crap... how could I forget ghost types cant be unjured by normal moves." Gage said to himself.

" Gastly, use your Night Shade now!" Said the broad shouldered man and a dark shadow came up from the ground and engulfed Spoons. Spoons screamed in pain, Gage had made a terrible mistake, Ghost moves were super effective against psychics. But before the Nightshade could take full effect Gage yelled " Teleport now and follow up with Shadow ball!" Spoons reappeared right next to Gastlys head and blasted a black orb directly into it. Gastly hit the floor and screamed in pain wretching back and forth.

" Gastly return!" said the big man, " Go Haunter" continued the smaller one. The purple Ghost began jumping back and forth cackling maniacly. " Take a rest Spoons, GO ANGEL!" and he tossed the second ball he had in his coat. Out of the ball came the golden Swablu. " Angel, use peck as many times as possible as quickly a you can!" Gage remembered that ghost moves couldn't hurt normal types so Angel was safe. The golden bird pecked at Haunter over and over again doing major damage. " Grr, Haunter use hypnosis now!" Said the small man. Angel hit the ground snoring loudly, there was little more she could do.

" Return Angel, go Spoons!" Out of the red topped ball came out Spoons. " Rested and ready to go!" he said. " Haunter use Nightshade now!" said the small man, but before the night shade could make contact Gage yelled " Teleport now!". Spoons began moving round the arena dodging the Night Shade over and over agian completely avoiding the Night Shade attack. " Grrr! Stop him now use hypnosis!" a small ring flew from the Haunters mouth and just barely missed Spoons. " Spoons while your teleporting charge up a shadow ball attack!" Gage yelled. After a few seconds Spoons had completely charged a shadow ball attack and launched it directly at haunter knocking him out of the sky, but it was a trap, Haunter had launched a hypnosis at the same time hitting Spoons directly.

Spoons passed out and although he was seriously damaged the haunter was still standing. " HAHAHA, you fell for my trap, Haunter use nightshade!" Darkness embraced the floor and began surrounding Spoons' unconscious body doing extreme amounts of damage until Spoons was completely done for. " Spoons return, Angel go!" Gage knew it was over, there was nothing that the cloaked trainer could do. " Thanks to Angels Natural Cure ability, she is completely concious and ready for battle." Gage said. " Now finish it with peck!" The golden bird slamed its beak into the ghost leaving it unconcious on the floor.

" Good job Angel, return" said Gage " Now you freaks leave me be!" Gage said triumphantly. " You'll regret this," Said the big one " You will join us sooner or later, they all do." And then the two cloaked figures dissapeared backwards into the shadows. " ....Well then I guess it's about time I go into the gym....."
