Red hack: Pokemon PureRGB (QoL romhack) (Complete!) (New version just released Nov 13th 2024!)

New minor release is out. Added a new feature where after saving Mr.Fuji you can lend your silph scope to the CHANNELER on the 2nd floor of the pokemon tower. They'll hold it for you until you come back to the tower if you need to use it again, so you don't need to store it in your bag or PC. Also this release fixes a couple of bugs related to dark areas like rock tunnel, some from the original game, some I caused. Also, trade evolutions work again if you trade them. But you can still evolve them at level 37 if you don't trade obviously.

Hi, I wanted to ask if there were any plans to add a toggle for the new "signature move" effect? I absolutely loved how PureRGB made total losermons into real forces of nature (Raticate and Golbat were legitimately MVPs on my team, I felt like a proud Rocket Grunt lmao), but a lot of the signature moves push things too far in the other direction in my opinion. Now there are moves that are flat-out bad on most things, but ridiculously good on the signature wielder (160 BP Waterfall on Seaking sounds outright disgusting), when I greatly preferred the previous approach of diversifying learnsets and making every move feel generally useful in its own way.

If no toggle will be implemented, would it be sufficient to simply comment out or remove most of "remap_move_data.asm", or would that cause issues elsewhere? Manly wondering about a toggle in the first place since most other things in Pure (Pokemon sprites, new Pokemon typings, the added Cinnabar area) can be freely enabled or disabled by the player, yet the current build of the game is now stuck enforcing these signature move changes unless one were to edit the code and compile their own local copy.

It's sort of a rule that I don't put toggles for battle move changes because things get complicated really quickly in that regard. For signature moves, removing the move mystic would be somewhat complicated, but removing the signature moves in battle would be as simple as assigning the moves their original power/accuracy in the signature move table.

Maybe I can make it toggleable in the next release. I'll have to see. I could probably add "Move Mystic" as an option in the world options, and this would include signature moves being turned off.

By the way, I haven't "nerfed" any moves that I added signature moves to. I simply made them better for the specific pokemon. I felt these moves were already pretty balanced, so I didn't want to make them even stronger for all pokemon.

Hi, I appreciate the quick reply! I know no moves were directly nerfed, I just felt some of the signature buffs seemed a little too strong for the general vibes I was getting from Pure's changes otherwise. For the record, I do really enjoy the universal changes that have been made to moves - Swift, Vicegrip, and Tri Attack being favorites in particular.

Thanks for the insight and the answers!

[EDIT] I did have one suggestion to maybe toss in: a Rock/Normal typing for Rhyhorn and Rhydon? It would give them STAB proficiency with Double-Edge and Body Slam, render them immune to Body Slam paralysis (unless that Gen1-ism was removed in Pure), and trade the two x4 weaknesses to Grass and Water for a single x4 against Fighting. It also just seemed fitting flavor-wise, with a lot of dex entries mentioning the rocks on Rhyhorn being more like plate mail, so it made sense to me that its flesh would be squishy underneath... and it having a partial Normal-typing also better justifies the weirdly broad TM coverage the line has access to. Just a thought, I'm totally fine having Rock/Normal Rhydon as a personal thing!

Hello. I'm having issues getting the power back on at the power plant. New to this rom but love it. I couldn't find a walkthrough for that. Can anyone assist?

Just saw a video about this pop up in my Youtube feed, and while I am totally gonna give this a playthrough, because this is amazing, my favourite gen is gen 2. Is there a PureGSC by any chance that someone would know about? TBH I'd love to see your deft hands do one for Gen 2.

Appreciate the work on this though, I grew up on Blue.

No there isn't but hold on I'll make one in 20 minutes

that's sarcasm btw pureRGB has been around 1 year of tireless work in total at this point so no I don't have a romhack for whatever gen you prefer
Oh I know its not easy, and I didn't expect it. It was more of a way of saying that I appreciate the effort that went into it. And I do. Sorry if it came across negatively, wasn't my intention. As in, I wish every gen had its own 'Pure' because this is freaking great!!! And you did it very lovingly and attentively. It does feel like a labour of love. Adult me, and kid me, are both very happy.

I am considering doing a gen 2 romhack in the future but it won't be "pureGSC" because I'd like to add some beta pokemon in to gen 2 to fill out the new pokemon roster a bit better. Also some evos for pokemon that don't have one by default in gen 2, if they look like they fit the gen 2 aesthetic. But it would take absolute ages to make and I want to finish off pureRGB first.

That would be sick!

But I feel ya. I showed my friend PureRGB and he was like, "yeah you were right, the options he added to this are great", so, its good. Anything worth doing, is worth taking the time to do right - if, when, gen 2 and your approach comes, I'll there with bells on!

This rom hack is simply fantastic. Perfect, I would have to say (being 37 years old and thoroughly enjoying the original games as a boy, I can't help but totally love this!)

hey i found a bug
When I tried to check old trick to get mew, "using Abra to teleport during the trainer on rute 24 wants to fight with me", and it teleport me to pokecenter ofc, but buttons didn't work after that, i could only move.
