Abra was the first Pokemon in an alphabetical list, until Abomasnow came along! Abomasnow is from generation 4. Cardboard refers to a trading card, and on one of Abra's cards, it is leaning against a tree. Obviously, Abra can't learn Surf, and since it teleports from battle right away, it takes a long time to capture!

EDIT: Here is the card in question. I remembered about the card because I have a huge collection of the really old Pokemon cards. Since this one is really common, I had seen it many times!
