I started to hack Ruby, then I was like, screw it, I can do soooo much more with FireRed or Emerald.

As time goes on I like FR tiles more and more so I think it would be cool to see someone give Emerald a face lift by reproducing it in FR. Could be a pretty sweet sideshow.

Truuu. Anonyboy is doing something like that. It's called Aerial Emerald. Except it's not EXACTLY Emerald Version.
