Does anyone think that pokemon reached it's height with G/S/C and then just plummeted downwards since. THe new games really just feel like a gimmick or a cash-in, whereas G/S was finely crafted, felt organic and fun with believable new pokemon. I'm not really looking forward to any new games because I know they will be just as uninspiring as R/S. I'm saying all this ecause I was off Pokemon for a long while after playing R/S, I thought it was because I was too old and just didn't like it, but recently I started up Gold/Silver - and I enjoyed it more then ever. So that's when I realized the problem wasn't me.....

Have you played Emerald yet? It fixed some of the problems with RS and added new features that actually make it a better game than GSC. While the in-game is GSC will always be the best (until they decide to expand on it more in the future), Emerald has advanced breeding, smarter AI, and most important, the Battle Frontier. Plus the Pokes are animated, ala Crystal.

I agree but i also agree with Xtacy
But gamefreak etc should really come with a diffrent story line for each game, playing the same game over with just a few pokemon more is junk, and they should expand the areas like G/S/C once you beat elite 4 you went to jhotto, they should lets us go to all the other regions as well

I don't think Emerald could fix the problems of R/S, because they weren't something that was fixable. The pokemon, for one thing. In GSC there wer a hundred new creative, original, and likeable Pokemon. In GSC the starters, for one thing, when I saw them, I spend so long on it because I couldn't pick a favourite, I wanted all three of them. I don't have that same thing in R/S, because the Pokemon are all bland and uninspiring, with garble names. THe entire game just feels bland and lifeless, uncreative, uninspired.

If they ever make a Gold/Silver remake, or a new game without trying to add new (lame) pokemon, and such, I might buy it. But it's just, to me, Gold/Silver was a response to the immense fanbase with a new, excellent game. A reward. R/S just feels like cashing in.

    -_-

People have different tastes in what Pokémon are "lame". I personally was much more fond of the R/S Pokémon than the G/S/C ones. Nothing makes your opinion more right.

Each generation has a different style - you happen to like the Johto one, but not everybody does.

Well, for starters, Emerald includes the "Berry fix", which was a problem in the first version of RS (although I believe FRLG has the fix for it too). It also fixed the route near Mauville, allowing you a straightaway run from Route 118 to Verdenturf, for breeding purposes. The phone system was upgraded/improved, certain abilities have additional effects (i.e. Flame Body cuts egg hatching in half), storyline was improved with a new champion and an ultimate fight (similar to GSC), it is wireless so it can used with FRLG, additional Move Tutors were added and even old GSC MT were included in the Battle Frontier, improvement to certain berries that now help with EV training, and improvement to the Everstone for breeding purposes, just to name a few.

It is also interesting to see differing opinions about the different versions. While I freely admit the storyline and playability of the in-game GSC is far superior than any version to date, I have found the GSC Pokes to be quite weak and uninspiring. Personally, the GSC starters are the weakest of the three versions. Unlike you, I have really enjoyed the RSE starters who actually are more original then their GSC counterparts. Swampert easily challenges Charizard as the best starter and the Water/Ground typing is really cool. Sceptile, while looking pretty hideous is also a good utility Poke, similar to Venusaur. Blaziken? Meh. I have never liked Fire-types much, but once again the typing is pretty cool. The names do suck, I will give you that, but at least they attempted to deviate (albeit only a little) from the same old Water/Fire/Grass starters that you have in GSC.

I agree that in-game, RS (and even Emerald for the most part) is pretty lame. After two version of the same typical storyline, it would have been to get away from it. I was hopeful when you helped Prof. Birch and chose a starter that way, but in the end it was the exact same as the previous two and you couldn't even go to a different region after defeating the Weak 4 either. As you said, I REALLY hope that DP is going to get away from the standard get starter, earn badges, defeat E4, gotta catch 'em all format that has plagued the franchise. They could have diverted from that in RSE and chose not to. Hopefully this time they will.

I think it did plunge. Since in GSC you get 16 badges and in RSE you only get 8. When I 1st heared of RS I thought you might of gotten to go through Hoenn, Johto and Kanto and do all of that stuff.

I don't recall saying my opinion was more right.

GSC definitely was the pinnacle of pokemon. Ruby and Sapphire WERE junk. I haven't gotten the opprotunity to play emerald yet, so I can't make a comment. GSC definitely had better pokemon--a better variety of legendaries and awesome starters. Treecko was lame, Torchic was weak, and Mudkip's evolutions gave it a double weakness to grass. Also, this e-reader and giveaway crap has gone too far. GSC and RBY were fine--the only pokemon that were giveaway-exclusive were Mew and Celebi. But RS took the game too far by Including Jirachi and Deoxys, and requiring that you buy four more games and a link cable (and, if you don't have already, a gamecube) to complete your pokedex. I won't buy into it. If nintendo decides to remake gold and silver or include Johto in their next game, maybe I will reconsider.

Again, funny to see differing opinions. Here are the base stats of the 9 starters:

    Swampert: 535
    Charizard: 534
    Typhlosion: 534
    Blastoise: 530
    Blaziken: 530
    Feraligatr: 530
    Sceptile: 530
    Meganium: 525
    Venusaur: 525

The RSE starters are all above 530. The GSC starters have the exact same stats as the RBY starters, but the fact that Typhlosion is only Fire (no Ground immunity) and Meganium is only Grass (5 weaknesses instead of 4), gives the edge to RBY. As for the RSE starters, Blaziken's typing makes it a strong in-game Poke (especially against the E4), Sceptile's speed (not to mention the Leaf Blade move) makes it a great utility Poke, and while Swampert might have a 4x weakness to Grass, that is its ONLY weakness. Also don't forget its little immunity to Electric-types and the fact that it makes them pee themselves when it hits the field.

Again, I will gladly concede that in-game there is nothing that comes close to GSC. Other than that though, 75% of the GSC Pokes are garbage and the extras that you get in Emerald (all the aforementioned things I mentioned earlier) do make up for it. Now, if they could only take the extras you get in Emerald, the playability you have in GSC, and put them together. That would be great. Well, only if they changed the same tired E4 routine, of course.

yeah, I was really indifferent to the R/S starters. I picked Mudkip because that was the one I disliked the least.

And come on.....you know you're scrubbing for ideas when you have a huge nose called "Nosepass" as a pokemon......

I think the only Poke's I truly didn't dislike or roll my eyes at were Swampert, and Metagross. Metagross was a pretty good idea.
