Pokemon: Shadows of Justice, A Steampunk RPG

OOC: Couldn't help it, lol. Plus I figured I'd shy away from rares for a while after this.

IC: "I thought you had it there for a second, but you lack skill in reading pokemon." Said a voice from behind Trent. It was a boy who looked roughly Trent's age. He stood at about 6'0 and had short shaggy green hair. He wore black dress pants with a white button down shirt that had a black tie hanging loosely from his neck. Behind him was stag looking pokemon that had flowers growing from its antlers. "I'm guessing you must have just started training if you threw an apricorn ball that early on a rare pokemon like that. Can't blame you I was once that naïve myself. Maybe you should try weakening it some more, that is if you're Tyanamo can hold up against another attack." The white eel was on the ground struggling to get up, the pink chubby pokemon standing above it now enraged. Trent sent a frustrated glance toward the boy and began to rummage through his bag for an oran berry. "Better hurry up looks like that Audino is going to finish off your pokemon." Said the green hiared boy slyly. Berries in hand Trent rushed off toward the battling pokemon. Once he was close enough he fell into a slide grabbing his pokemon before the pound attack could hit it.

"Here eat these" Trent said as he put the berry into the pokemon's mouth. "Tya Tya!" cried the pokemon relieved as it hovered out again ready for battle. "We have an audience this time Zero, we have to put on a show." The white eel nodded in agreement and waited for orders. "Alright start charging your electricity but don't let it out until I tell you. So until then hit it with tackles." The small pokemon took off at the Audino hitting it in its stomach once again. The normal type took a step back before countering the blow with another pound attack. Tyanamo wince sparks slowly starting to fly from its body. "Don't let up tackle it again!" barked the black haired trainer. His pokemon charged at the normal type a fierce look on its face. The Audino let out a vicious growl startling Tyanamo just enough to weaken the force of its attack. "Audino!" bellowed the pokemon as it jumped into the air to prep another pound attack. "Quick get out of there!" yelled Trent as his pokemon just narrowly avoided a serious hit.

"You know you're going to have to be pretty creative to get past this pokemon. When it comes to defenses you're pretty outmatched." Commented the boy now getting into the battle that was unfolding. Trent shot another glare his way and got back to the task at hand. From what he could gather Tyanamo had gathered a good amount of electricity, but it wasn't enough to do what he wanted. On top of that if his pokemon were to take another hit there would really be no way for him to win. At least not without using more berries. "Alright I just need a little more time." Trent said under his breath. "Alright Zero I need you to provoke it and make it attack you. Whenever it uses a pound attack it always puts its hands together and lifts them over its head in preparation. When you see it doing that, avoid the attack by moving to the side or behind it. "Tya" cried the pokemon as it went in to face its opponent once more. The Audino was still pretty angry as it continually used pound attack after pound attack. Zero had managed to dodge the first several attacks but was hit by the last knocking it back to Trent's feet.

"Well it looks like this fight is over. Here I thought that you showed some promise." The Green haired boy and his pokemon both turned around and started to town. "Hey!" yelled Trent after the boy. It's not over, you weren't watching carefully enough." Tyanamo was still standing sparks shooting off in every direction from its body. "I have one last thing. Zero tap into a small amount of that power for a thunder wave." The eel pokemon then sent out a yellow wave of electric energy much smaller than the one before. The target now somewhat fatigued from its onslaught of attacks took the hit and stood motionless once again. "Okay zero I'm going to trust you not to hurt me too badly here." Trent then attempted to pick up the pokemon, jolt of electricity running through his arms, causing his movements to look rather mechanical. "Here we go!" Trent then tossed the eel pokemon above the normal type. "Now use charge beam, full power!" Once Zero was directly above Audino it let out a fantastic beam of electricity out of its mouth hitting its opponent squared on the head. The pressure of the beam propelled the eel several more feet into the air. "Alright dive into a tackle." The small pokemon wearing a determined faced plummeted toward the Audino hitting it on the head again causing both pokemon to hit the ground. "Have to do this quickly." Trent quickly threw another apricorn ball at the Audino and hurried to find another oran berry in his bag for Zero.

*Ping, ping, ping... CLICK*

It had worked. The Pokéball quickly sealed itself, making escape impossible. But that wasn't the point. Melody had caught the Patrat, and it had actually gone well. It hadn't escaped, it hadn't beaten Melody's Pokemon senseless – it hadn't even called along a pack of nearby Scyther to attack the trainer trying to capture it. And now Melody officially had a Pokemon team. No longer would it be her and the lone starter. Now Melody had an Oshawott and a... well, she had no idea what this new thing was, but it was a new Pokemon none the less. It had only just dawned on Melody that it might have been useful to have brushed up on the local wildlife. Oh well, she'd learn by doing rather than reading. Walking forward, she knelt down and grasped the Apricorn ball in her left hand. Now it felt a little weighted, showing that it did in fact contain a new Pokemon. Although she spent a few moments to examine the container, she was far too eager to get a closer look at her new capture. The ball clicked open, spilling out a beam of light which tumbled into the ground. It slowly formed, and then shattered, revealing the tiny rodent creature Melody and Persephony had just been battling. It stared at its two new allies with some level of confusion, although if anything it looked a little impatient. Its brown fur looked slightly scruffy, as did the white tuft of hair on its tail. If anything, Melody couldn't quite tell whether it looked cute or just down-right menacing. No, it didn't look that evil, albeit a little more than Sephy did. It response to its new ally, Seph wandered over to the Patrat, while Melody quickly flicked out the PokePedia. Unlike the Sinnoh version of the Pokedex, it really was just a big book. Still, it wasn't too difficult to search through it, and soon enough Melody had found the image of the creature which stood it front of her. Melody glanced over it somewhat impatiently. The creatures name was 'Patrat', and a Normal type by the looks of things. In the recent battle it had only used Tackle and what appeared to be Leer. That must mean it was at a somewhat low level. Still, that means that there was plenty of time to practice with it. "Umm... so what are we going to call you then?" asked Melody, although she was talking to herself more than her Pokemon.

Glancing around the area, Melody searched for some kind of inspiration. Names weren't such a good thing for her in all honesty. Persephony was the name of a character from a book that Melody had been reading a little before arriving here, so it wasn't exactly original, but at least it was different. Who's to say she couldn't just name this Patrat after someone from a book? Maybe, although maybe not. Who knows? Melody had never thought that this would be such a difficult task, even if it was a rather simple one in which every trainer went through? To be fair though, it wasn't exactly something that would ruin her skills in battling, just something that would be almost constantly annoying, even more so if she gave it the wrong name. So what would be a good choice.

Melody chose the first thing which came to her mind. "Haymitch?"

The Patrat shrugged, obviously not bothered over what he was referred to, and then began bounding down the pathway, although it stopped once or twice to sniff the air, almost as if it were searching for something, or someone. Persephony was keeping an equal speed, seemingly a little worn out from the recent fight, but still able to keep a stable distance between the two. Melody had no choice but to chase after them. What else could she do? If she stayed and was attacked by a wild Pokemon, there would be no way to defend herself short of hitting it with a big stick, and to be honest, Melody didn't really want to do that. So, she ran. She may have had a larger step than her two Pokemon, but they were still much faster than she was. It was even worse when Haymitch began to clamber up a tree. Sephy couldn't climb either, and instead turned round to Melody to make sure that she was still keeping up.

"Osha!" she yelled, before glancing at Haymitch leaping across the tree branches.

Melody sighed heavily, and stopped for a moment to catch her breath. "Any idea where he's going?" she asked, although the Water-type shook its head somewhat impatiently.

Soon, the two had made amazing progress across the route and were closing in on the next town, only made possible from following the tell-tale signs of where Haymitch had been. Sephy seemed to be picking out his scent rather easily, and there was the occasional snapped twig or footprint where Haymitch had left the trees to use the ground for a while, before soon enough scrambling up a tree. Just Melody's luck – picking a Pokemon which would run away as soon as it was caught. However, it was only a few precious moments later when a tiny brown figure leapt from the trees and landed in front of both Melody and Persephony. A Patrat. Haymitch to be exact, and it was carrying another sandwich. Marmite by the looks of it.

A frown appeared on Melody's face. "Haymitch, if you run off like that one more time I swear I'm gunna-"

"Oi, that Patrat stole my lunch!" yelled another voice from behind the trees.

Bursting from the foliage came another person. He was clearly a little angry at Haymitch, who had obviously once again tried to steal someone's lunch, quite successfully this time. The other person was a boy, a little younger than Melody was, with dark black hair and blue eyes, who was being followed intently by another Pokemon. It was tiny, much the size of Haymitch, and looked somewhat reminiscent of a Phanpy, albeit a bright pin colour, and dotted with flowers. Haymitch scuttled over to Melody and clambered up her leg, arm and then sat on her shoulder. The boy looked completely furious at Melody, even more so than he did at Haymitch. Seph was left out of the picture, but she never really did anything, so that was understandable. Still, she did glance over at the other and his Pokemon.

Melody chuckled a little. "Calm down, he did the same to me just a moment ago," she said. It wasn't exactly meant to be reassuring, just making a point. Melody turned her head to Haymitch, and then held her hand out. "Now, now. Haymitch, give the man back his food."

Haymitch tilted his head to the side, and then nibbled the sandwich a little. Melody turned to the other trainer with an expression saying 'do you really want it back?' The answer was clearly no, but the other trainer still wanted revenge for the theft. Melody glanced at the other trainer. This was going to be her first trainer battle while travelling.

"I challenge you to a Pokemon battle!" yelled the other.

"I could have quite easily guess that... anyway, Haymitch, you up for this?"

The Patrat nodded, threw the sandwich to the side, and then assumed a battle stance. Sephy took a stance to the side of the make-shift arena, standing where a judge would in a more official battle. It seemed that the other trainers Pokemon – which happened to be a Munna – sat next to him, obviously preferring not to battle, which left the trainer to pull out another Apricorn ball to use in the fight. He threw it, and it exploded just as they usually do. This spawned a new creature, adorned with grey feathers and large amber eyes. A Pidove, if Melody was not mistaken. It scratched its claws against the ground for a few moments before glancing at its competitor, and tumbling into a more combative stance. It glared at its opponent, and then took to the skies a little, raring to fight.

The other trainer took the first move. "Pidove, use Gust!"

"Haymitch, dodge it – and then try Tackle!"

The speed of Pidove's wing beats increased, and the wind became sharper and more powerful. Haymitch took his sweet time in avoiding the attack, not seeing at a threat. He leapt from the attack rather casually, taking very little damage from the attack, pivoting on his front legs, and then charging forward to the opponent. The Pidove was rather high up though, and Haymitch would have to make an amazing run-up to catch it. Haymitch was close enough to strike, but it did not, instead running underneath Pidove and going straight past it. Tumbling towards the trees, Haymitch scurried up, both the Pidove and the other trainer completely oblivious to where the Patrat had gone to. But then again, Melody had lost sight of him too in the thick trees which lined the pathway. There were a few brief moments of silence, minus a light sneeze from Seph on the side-lines and the beating from the Pidove's wings. Melody was starting to get a little anxious over what Haymitch had planning, or if he had simply run off. No, there was a new sound, the rustling of leaves. Of course, that was soon followed by a burst of movement, and the somewhat familiar brown ball flying from the trees. The length of the jump was amazing, and a direct hit as he slammed into the Pidove from the sky, taking it out completely off guard. Melody would have to remember that for future reference. Haymitch tackled the Pidove to the ground with surprising strength, and the two slammed to the earth. Haymitch looked rather pleased with himself.

"Good job, now follow up with Leer!" yelled Melody, as Haymitch jumped off and over to Melody. "Tackle!"

His eyes burst into bright flare, which clearly made the Pidove uncomfortable. It would make a follow-up attack much easier to perform with that kind of distraction. Taking up the second order, Haymitch darted forward, using his tiny frame and superior speed to his advantage. However, the Pidove wasn't down yet. "Get up and dodge!"

The Pokemon managed to stumble up, and fluttered away as best as it could, although not without being clipped in the side by Haymitch's attack. Of course, the Normal-type was not going to let the Flying-type off so easily, and rapidly pivoted like he had previously, and thrust forward, smashing into the Pidove rather casually, even if it was filled with just enough force. Patrat pinned down its foe once more, and even though the Pidove struggled to get away, Haymitch was tougher, and waited for its trainers next word. Melody was rather surprised at how loyal he had become even in this single battle. It was definitely a good thing though. A disloyal Pokemon would sure end with more harm than good, at least on Melody's side. Melody glanced at the other trainer whose name she still didn't know.

"Give up?"

In all honesty, he didn't have a choice. The Pidove was clearly unconscious, meaning that Melody had won. That was rather fun, even if it had ended rather quickly. Haymitch quickly darted over to Melody, who was soon joined by Seph as the three of them waited for the other trainers response.

Now he was really angry. "I... uh... You wont win next time!"

And at those few words he quickly ran off. Who even was that? In the past five minutes one of her Pokemon had stolen someone's lunch, she'd been challenge to a battle by the one who was on the receiving end of the theft who was clearly quite angry, and she'd beaten that person in the end. Rather productive for five minutes, at least in her mind. And now, by the looks of things, she wasn't too far away from the next town. The running they had done chasing after Haymitch had obviously bridged the gap rather well. This was a good thing. She was already starting to get worn out from the trip between cities. She wasn't much of a traveller, but that was what she was here for. To become one, just like everyone else who set out on a Pokemon journey. What Melody planned to do when she got there? She had no clue what-so-ever.

@Kay11190 - Heh, to be honest I'd have done the same ;^_^ Lillipups and Patrats aren't exactly catching material to me. Anywho, I enjoyed reading that post, especially when that other boy came in and made Trent and Zero go that extra mile just so not to be embarrassed.

Trent caught an Audino!

@Archipelago - I loved reading that post! Something about Melody just makes me want to read more! And I love how you type, it's fantastic! I look forward to more of Melody's adventure with her Pokemon ^_^

Lily grinned as the ball clicked close signifying she had caught the Lillipup. She easily ran over and grabbed the ball from off the ground where it lay near Eragon and said, "All right we caught our first Pokemon Eragon!"

"Xew, xew xew xew," Eragon replied crossing her arms smuggly.

Lily sweat dropped giggling slightly while nervously scratching the back of her head before saying, "Yeah, yeah I know you did most of the work."

Lily's face took on a serious look as she glanced down at the Axew before saying, "Which reminds me we have to discuss some of the earlier happenings before we move on to elsewhere."

"Xew ew xew xew AXEW! XEW AX XEW!" Eragon started talking rapidly pitch and volume increasing as she spoke.

Lily held her hands up defensively before replying, "Look I don't know what your nature I can take a guess at it but since Unova lacks certain technological advances due to their refusal to tap into electricity my knowledge about you is more limited than I would like. But that's beside the point. If we are to work together cohesively as a team I can't have you going all vigilante on me without warning. If you do that in the middle of a gym battle it could end disastrously for the two of us."

"Xew xew. Ax xew ew xew," Eragon replied motioning with her hands to her mouth and making a kicking motion.

"Uh are you saying for me to try and give commands out faster?" Lily asked and at Eragon's nod she continued, "Fair enough though it may take a while for me to get up to your speed though."

"Xew ew xew," Eragon said nodding her head.

"Well I guess now that that is settled we should keep heading north to Accumula Town so we can get you and this Lillipup healed up. After that we can figure out what to call him or her," Lily said finally attaching the ball which she had absent mindedly fumbling in her right hand during her talk with Eragon to her belt. Pausing for a second before speaking to Eragon she said, "Do you want to return to your ball for now or do you want to remain outside for now?"

"Xew," Eragon said pointing at one of the other Apricorn Balls she had attached to her belt. Nodding she unattached Eragon's ball returning the Pokemon to the ball. After Eragon had returned to the ball she turned towards the direction Accumula Town was thinking to herself, 'Well look like it's just me and my lonesome self for now.'

~~~~~
A few hours later found Lily exituing Accumula Towns PokeCenter having made the rest of the journey without too much incident. Glancing at the two Apricorn Balls attached to her belt she contemplated what to do next. Sitting underneath a nearby tree she opened up her backpack going through it thinking, 'I should probably do my shopping before I let Eragon out and introduce myself to that Lillipup I caught. But first I need to figure out what exactly Professor Juniper gave me so I can maybe make some more purchases.'
She began to pull out the items one by one looking at all of them thinking, 'Lets see I have an Escape Rope, nice, three Orange Berries and Pecha Berries, the unused Apricorn Balls, and various other trainer necesseties. Probably picking up a few more berries at the market wouldn't hurt and maybe another Apricorn Ball just in case.'
Shoving everything back in being mindful of the berries she swung her backpack on and made a beeline for the Pokemart which she saw just off in the distance. It took her a little less than ten minutes to find and purchase the two oran berries, two pecha berries, and the two Apricorn Balls from the shop. Once back outside she headed back to the tree she had originally looked through her backpack at and unhooked Eragon's and Lillipup's balls from her belt releasing the two.
Eragon was the first to materialize with a yawn, the Lillipup following a few seconds later looking slightly dazed and confused glancing around before spotting Eragon and attempting to tackle her. Eragon responded by growling in warning at the Lillipup as it tripped over its feet and rolled right into her and Lily yelled, "Stop that Lillipup!" Before she realized exactly what had happened.
The Lillipup ignored her in favor of another Tackle causing Lily to groan and think, 'What is with me and issues controlling my Pokemon at first.' She then spoke up again using the same threat she had used on Eragon to get her to listen to her, "Lillipup if you don't listen to me I'm going to box you."
Lillipup stopped then still looking a bit confused and she could hear the two new teammates exchange some sort of conversation before the Lillipup nodded turning to face her. Lily sighed, happy and content that her newest Pokemon was listening to her before saying, "Thank you. Anyway my name is Lily Rosemary Taylor but I go by Lily and I am your new trainer."
"Xew xew ax," she hear Eragon mutter at her introduction.
Choosing to ignore her starter she continued, "Well we need to come up with a new name for you I am not going to call you Lillipup the entire time. So I guess first off I need to know if you are a guy or girl. I guess one Lilli for guy, two for girl."
"Lilli, lilli," the Lillipup responded.
"A girl huh, what to call you?" Lily said outloud while thinking to herself, 'I was kind of hoping it was a guy because than I would have known exactly what to name her. But since it's not I can't exactly call it Padfoot so what to do?'
"Hmph." Snickered the green haired boy. "That was pretty clever; though I don't know how I would classify risking yourself to catch a pokemon. I will say one thing; it's rare to see a trainer actually fight with his pokemon. Makes me wonder how you would do in a real battle." Trent looked over at the boy while feeding his Tyanamo another oran berry. "How about it, if you can manage to beat two of the pokemon I came here to raise I'll not only give you two oran berries, but a nice sum of money. If you lose, well we'll discuss that after the fact." Trent stood up and walked over toward the apricorn ball that held his new pokemon. Picking it up he looked toward the boy and with the most serious face he had ever had replied "You're on!" "I'm letting you know now that you're only going to get past the first one." The boy smirked and threw an apricorn ball into the air. A brilliant flash of light formed into a small blue duck pokemon. "To save you time its number 580 in your pokepedia." Trent quickly took out his book and looked up the pokemon that stood before him. It was a water type pokemon with a secondary typing as flying.
"Why would you send out that pokemon? Against Zero it won't even stand a chance." The Tyanamo nodding in agreement, sure of its newly gained skill.
"Don't fret your pretty little ponytail; Ducklett here serves as a warm up for you. Now Kaiser use water gun!" The Duck pokemon took to the sky hovering just out of reach from the possible physical attacks of the eel and began shooting a steady stream of water toward it. "Zero dodge it and try to hit it with a charge beam." Narrowly evading the bulk of the water the electric pokemon let out a small burst of electricity from its mouth. The water type easily evaded the attack by gliding to the side. The green haired boy chuckled before ordering the pokemon to continue attacking with water gun. The duck then unleashed a flurry of water shots from the air keeping the small white eel moving to avoid getting hit.
"Come on; don't tell me this is all. Use your head, if you can't get my pokemon to stop moving you won't hit it. Maybe that Tyanamo of yours knows an attack that can do this." Trent looked at the boy with frustration. He had never encountered someone so seemingly full of themselves before. The boy did have a point though there was only one way to stop this pokemon. "Zero use thunder wave and follow it up with a charge beam." The electric pokemon quickly dodge another stream of oncoming water and let out a large wave of electric energy from its body. The electricity from the attack hit the blue duck paralyzing it mid flight. The bird fell from the sky landing in one of the pools of water it had created on the ground. The Tyanamo then fired another beam of electricity like the first at its opponent landing a direct hit.
"Not too shabby. See what happens when you take my advice." The boy said slyly. "Well time for you to face the real challenge of this fight. If you were wondering about this beauty of a pokemon behind me it's a Sawsbuck, one of my favorite grass types. It just so happens that I myself am a grass type trainer. I do have other types like the water type you just face but with my next pokemon you'll see how much farther you have to go as a trainer." The boy then returned his fallen Ducklett to its apricorn ball and threw another into the air. With flash of light forming a small pink and cream colored deer pokemon. "Meet Bella, a product of a good amount of breeding. I'll give you time to switch pokemon, I don't think that Tyanamo will be able to do much damage." Trent let out a growl that was barely audible and the tossed the apricorn ball with his newly capture Audino onto the ground. The normal type looked back at Trent and gave him a once over. It then gave him an assuring nod and took on a battle position.
"I bet you don't even know why your Audino there is even in fighting shape." Trent gave him another angry glare, but yet again the boy's words had truth behind them. He had only glanced at the pokepedia page during the battle with the Audino, so he only knew its attacks. "Do yourself a favor, after this when you're at the pokemon center read up on the pokemon in the nearby areas, it may prove useful. Now I'll start the second round off with a tackle attack." The pink deer without delay darted toward the Audino and slammed its body into the Normal type. "Audi." Cried the pokemon as it took several steps back. "Audino use pound attacks on the ground around you" The normal type pokemon and the green haired trainer shot a puzzled look at Trent both wondering what he was up to. The Audino however listened obediently and stated bashing the ground around it with heavy blows from its fists. "Whatever you're planning I'm not going to let it happen. Bella finish this now with a double kick!" The grass type pokemon raced toward the normal type and hopped over its head. Upon landing the Deerling raised its hind legs and thrusted them into the Audino sending it careening into a nearby tree. The deer triumphantly took a few steps toward the Audino standing triumphantly where the normal type once stood.
"You see there your pokemon with high defense can't stand up to this deer of mine. You might as well call it a match." Said the trainer as Trent recalled his pokemon. "You know if you keep underestimating me you're going to lose." Said Trent gesturing his Tyanamo into battle. "Trust me there is nothing you can do that is going to stop Bella." Replied the boy cooly. "Then let me start this round with a charge beam." The electric pokemon who again had sparks shooting from its body let out a large beam of electricity from its mouth. "Are you serious an electric attack on a grass type, you must be dumb." Laughed the boy as the beam hit his pokemon. "Look again, you may find that your counter to my plan didn't work." The boy watched as the electricity brought his pokemon down to its knees. "How could your little Tyanamo do that much damage to a pokemon with resistance to its typing." Yelled the boy, a tinge of both anger and confusion in his voice. "You see when Audino was hitting the ground she made it so all the pools of water created by your Ducklett led to that spot. I will admit it was luck that your Deerling stood there after its attack but I can't complain."
"You must think that this is the end of the battle but your wrong." The boy took a deep breath in an attempt to regain composure and looked toward Trent. "I did tell you that I bred this pokemon. Now Bella use synthesis." The yellow tuff of fur on top of the grass types head began to glow as it gathered energy. Soon the pink grass type started glowing white before it stood up looking as if it had not taken a hit. "Now grass whistle followed by a tackle." The Deerling stated to hum a song as it trotted around in circles around the white eel pokemon. Soon enough the electric type had fallen asleep and victim to a powerful tackle attack. "I'm going to leave the battle at this. If it goes on any longer your pokemon will get more injured than it needs to. Though you didn't win I'll leave you with these." The green haired boy pulled out a pair of light brown rubber gloves and tossed them on the ground by Trent's feet. "By the way my name is Sougen. If we meet again I look forward to a rematch." With that the trainer recalled his pokemon hopped on his Sawsbuck and rode away. Trent didn't spend too much time thinking about his loss and recalled his pokemon, picked up his new gloves and headed toward the Accumula Town pokemon center.
Day One: Starting Out (Part 1)
Wynn was walking along Route 1, the newly baptized Ares hitching a ride on her head. The Tepig apparently didn't like the smell of the particular type of Apricorn used to make Wynn's Apricorn Ball, so he had adamantly refused to enter it. It made Wynn wonder how they'd gotten him inside it in the first place.
Route 1 was a long, straight road surrounded by large pine trees. A lake lay somewhere to the west, hidden by the trees and tall grass.
A patch of grass rustled and parted to reveal a brown, rodent-like Pokemon with buck teeth. The Patrat reeled back onto its hind legs and stared eerily at Wynn with wide red eyes.
Then it leaped.
Wynn scrambled out of the way as the mouse…groundhog…rodent thing flew towards them like a flying squirrel. It landed with a loud thump on the ground. It immediately stood up again and turned around freakishly quickly. Those red eyes bore into Wynn's. The Patrat gave another loud screech before bolting towards them again.
"Ares! Tackle it!"
The pig hopped clumsily off of Wynn's head, stumbling a bit as he landed. The Patrat veered around him and went straight towards Wynn. The girl, more than a little creeped out, backed away slowly.
What moves do Tepig know? I just got him, so his level must be fairly low…
"Ares, Fire Oath!"
Ares' ears twitched. He ran forward eagerly and let loose a small jet of flames in the direction of the Patrat.
Which also happened to be where Wynn was.
The Patrat, the moment it felt the heat coming, quickly scurried away. Wynn managed to sidestep the burst of fire, but her jacket had been singed.
Good thing it was fireproof.
The Patrat, who, until then, had been wholly concentrated on Wynn, snapped back to face Ares and stared at him, as though seeing him for the first time. It looked slowly between the bits of burning grass and Ares. Then it gave an ear-splitting scream as it charged.
"Tackle!"
Ares slammed into the Patrat, sending it skidding a few feet away. Patrat, Wynn learned, weren't very strong. Then the rodent sprang back to its feet and ran towards Ares again.
But it looks like they're resilient, Wynn thought. And persistent.
"Fire Oath!"
Ares spat another volley of flames. This time around, the Patrat didn't manage to avoid it. It rolled away, its brown fur now seared with black. Smoke was rising in thin wisps from its body.
But it wasn't done just yet.
With a burst of unexpected of speed, it pounced towards Ares, who, taken by surprise, was a bit too slow to dodge the Tackle. Ares stumbled backwards, disoriented by the blow to the head. The Patrat tackled him again. Just as it was coming around for a third Tackle, Wynn said, "Ares, another Fire Oath!"
* * * * * * * * * * *
Ares wasn't quite sure which way the Patrat was coming from. But he supposed it didn't really matter, since he didn't think his trainer was stupid enough to tell him to attack an empty space. He breathed out another whirl of fire, a bit weaker than the last two, just as he felt something crash into him. He felt his knees give way under him and collapsed onto the soft, or not so soft after his fire attack, grass. He opened one droopy eyelid and saw, to his satisfaction, the Patrat lying on the ground, twitching, but unmoving.
He felt cool hands—or maybe he was just the one that was hot—grab him around his middle and smelled his trainer. He normally would have protested against being treated like a little piglet (because he was a fierce and strong warrior, and definitely not a piglet, despite his actual age) but he felt too tired to move. He heard a weird noise and that nasty dry scent flooded his nose. He wrinkled it in disgust. He was not going in there. Definitely not.
"Oh, come on," he heard a female (at least, he thought it was female—he wasn't too good with humans yet) voice murmur.
He gave a feeble oink in response.
But then a wave of nausea hit him. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. A nice, comfortable place to sleep did sound good…even if it did smell like Wiki berries. Though his trainer's head was pretty comfortable…
Then he heard a clic and was invaded by a very strange sensation.
Vyke, while watching Pokémon run by and people Pokémon battling and even people chasing after Pokémon that stole their food, was just sitting in the tree with Zet sleeping in his lap reading the pokepedia. "Hey Zet says your next evolved form is a Pokémon called Servine," Vyke said as the Snivy woke up and yawned. "Hmm I've been watching the competition and frankly I'm not impressed," He then sighed as he put the pokepedia away. Zet then jumped from his lap to the other end of the branch and Vyke had then got up from his position now standing on the branch. He then heard rustling in the leaves above him and Zet started hissing. "Snnnni!" He hissed. "What is it?" Vyke asked as a bird looking Pokémon flew out of the leaves and knocked into Vyke. "Oh no no no no!" Vyke shouted as he lost his balance and fell out of the tree and onto his face. "Crap man that's the second freaking time I've fallen and landed on my face!" He roared as he got back up rubbing his face with one eye looking for the Pokémon that knocked him out of the tree. "Pidove!" The bird Pokémon squawked at Vyke with a cocky smile on its face. "So you're the wise guy that knocked me out of the tree alright Zet let's get him!" Vyke growled as his Snivy jumped out of the tree. Zet stared at Vyke for a moment and then just turned away from him and walked off to a nearby rock and sat on it his tail up high. "What the Zet come on you listened to me when we fought that Lilipup," Vyke wined as his Snivy was ignoring him. "Pi," The bird Pokémon flying over him laughed. "What Pokémon is that anyway?" Vyke questioned as he took out his pokepedia and looked through it. "A Pidove eh, wonder if its male or female," He said putting away the pokepedia. "Fine you stupid Pidove take this!" Vyke growled as he picked up a rock and tossed it at the Pidove. "Dove!" Pidove squawked as the rock hit it hard. "Pidove!" It then shouted as it started flapping its wings around creating a powerful gust. "Oh come on," Vyke sighed as Pidove then sent the gust flying at him.
"Zet run!" Vyke yelled as he ran past the Snivy who was oblivious to what was going on. "Sni?" Snivy said as he turned around only to have the gust attack hit him causing him to fly fast at Vyke's head. "I can't get a break can I?" Vyke sighed as he turned around to see Zet flying straight toward him. As the two made contact Zet stopped and slammed into the ground but Vyke keep flying until he hit face first into a tree nearby. "Oww," He moaned as he fell to the ground. "Vy!" Zet roared now angry at the Pidove and ready for a fight. Without any command Snivy let used grass oath. "Snivy!" Zet growled as columns of grass appeared and flew straight at the Pidove. The attack made direct contact making the Pidove flew back a few feet before it recovered its balance in the air. The Pidove then retaliated with a gust attack by flapping its wings. "Zet look out dodge!" Vyke commanded as he got back up from the ground. Zet now listening to Vyke quickly jumped out the way of the gust attacking leaving it going straight toward Vyke. "Great just great," Vyke sighed as he braced himself for the gust attack. "Zet use tackle!" Vyke commanded as he endured the gust attack his coat had been blown off. "Snivy!" Zet growled as he lunged himself head first into the Pidove. "Pidove!" The Pidove groaned as it was hit out of the air and onto the ground. The Pidove quickly got back up and airborne now furious it started flapping its wings faster than it did before. "Zet get ready!" Vyke told his Snivy who then braced himself for an attack. The Pidove had somewhat created a mini tornado. The winds had became strong enough to cause grass, twigs, berries and even other Pokémon to fly through the air. "Holy cow man this Pidove is putting everything it has into this one attack!" Vyke shouted to Zet the winds making it hard to here. He was covering his face trying not to let grass and dirt get into them. He even saw a innocent Lilipup float nearby. "Hey," Vyke, confused waved to the Pokémon himself now about to be blown away. "Zet quick use grass oath on the Pidove," Vyke ordered. Zet then summoned two columns of grass and sent them flying straight toward the Pidove. "Pidove!" The Pidove shouted as it sent the mini tornado at Zet and Vyke. Strangely enough it seemed that the grass oath and gust attack had both just past each other hitting both parties. Right before the gust attack hit Vyke darted toward Zet and grabbed him shielding him in his arms as the gust attack picked the two of them up and sent them flying.
The two had went straight up and then came crashing down Vyke landing on his back with Zet protected in his arms. "Oh my goodness Zet I never knew becoming a Pokémon trainer would cause so much pain," Vyke complained as he got up and Zet jumped out of his arms. The two both stretched and Vyke rubbed his back when he noticed his shirt was missing. "What the…" He began when he noticed a weak injured Pidove flapping weakly away from the battle field with his shirt in its beak. "Oh no you don't!" Vyke growled as he picked up Zet and held him like a football. "Zet use tackle!" He yelled as he tossed the confused Zet right at the Pidove. "Yahoo direct hit!" Vyke exclaimed as Zet flew straight through the air and into the Pidove. "I got ya Zet," Vyke said to his Snivy as he caught him as he fell down. "Great job little guy," Vyke congratulated his upset Snivy. "Snivy!" Zet growled as he jumped out of Vyke's arms and slapped him with his tail. "Fine be mad at me but I'm catching this Pidove," Vyke said as he took out a apricorn ball and tossed it at the Pidove. "Now let me get my shirt," He said as he walked up to where the Pidove landed and picked up his shirt. Then he attention went to the apricorn ball which successfully hit the Pidove but began shaking. Vyke watched with anticipation
@HunterZero: A very nice post, I enjoyed reading it. However, if there's any one thing I'd suggest, it's either breaking up your post into smaller paragraphs, or make the font bigger cuz it's a bit difficult to read through.
Vyke caught a Pidove!
Day one – Part three: A lack of events
Melody, in all honesty, felt rather pleased with herself. It was a good feeling that she had gotten off on the right foot of this adventure. She had proved her worth in a Pokemon battle, had caught a Pokemon by herself, and now had two overall and neither seemed to be reluctant to travel with her. Haymitch was a little impatient to say the least, but he was willing to obey, which was enough. Currently, Haymitch was standing on Melody's right shoulder using her much taller stance to add to his height, and thus his line of vision. Melody had glanced at the PokePedia for a few moments earlier and found that Patrat were somewhat cautious Pokemon, and spent a large amount of time using higher vantage points to scout the area. Melody assumed that was simply what Haymitch was doing. She had offered Persephony a seat on the other shoulder, but she refused. It was probably best anyway, since the main reason in which Haymitch was sat on Melody's shoulder was to stop him from running off again, and Sephy didn't seemed to have this problem. Still, her trainer kept a close eye on the Water-type just in case she tried anything out of the ordinary. Although everything in this region was strange to Melody. She was already surprised about how changed a place could be just from the lack of electricity. Still, Melody wasn't complaining – not yet anyway. It was still a gorgeous Spring morning, and one in which she intended to make the most of while they were still on the path to the next town, which wasn't far off actually. Hopefully it was close enough to get something to eat though. It may have been somewhat early but Melody had always had an appetite which could rival a Donphan's, and by the look of things, Haymitch looked a little peckish too, even if he had spent that last half an hour gorging on people's sandwiches. Melody would have to remember to buy him one every time they stopped in a town to stop the Patrat from stealing other peoples food. Theft never really ends up as a good thing in the end. Hopefully Melody would be able to stop Haymitch's kleptomaniac tenancies. Somehow, that did not seem likely. What did seem likely though was the sudden increase in wind-speed. It was somewhat noticeable, although it wasn't unnatural. It quickly calmed down though, and Melody gave a slightly confused look to her allies. Another Pokemon battle with a Flying type maybe? That Pidove that the boy owned could kick up a storm with that Gust attack. She just hoped that no-one had brought along Rayquaza to the next town. That would only end in anarchy, and not the good kind either.
Ignoring the wind – for now anyway – Melody pointed forward toward the horizon of the forested plain. "Look, I think that's out next stop," she said to her Pokemon, her eyes squinting slightly as if to get a better look.
She wasn't lying. Sat further down the road there was the unmistakable sign of civilisation. The next town along was Accumula if Melody remembered correctly, which she probably did. Emphasis on the probably. Haymitch seemed to know this place better than either Melody or Sephy, and became much more eager as he had seen the town. Melody prepared for him to jump and run off, but much to Melody's surprise... that was exactly what the Patrat did. He bounded off of her shoulder and began to weave through the taller grass which had grown along this part of the route. Still, he wasn't completely invisible as there was a small indentation where he currently was and a trail of destruction where he had been, mostly comprised of grass Haymitch had knocked down, but it was also accompanied by a single Lillipup who – in Haymitch's haste – had not noticed the incoming Normal-type who was moving like a freight train. Melody stopped for a few moments for two reasons. One – to catch her breath, and two – to decide the fate of the Lillipup. She contemplated the idea of taking it to the Pokemon centre to have it healed, or maybe even capture it, but her plans were soon cut short at two other Lillipup appeared, one dragging a large leaf which was filled with Oran berries. The Normal-type would be fine without her, so Melody turned her attention back to the Patrat which was quite easily causing chaos along his path to the town. And that, actually, made the trip to Accumula very swift actually. Along the path neither Melody, nor Seph nor Haymitch saw anything of interest. Sure he annoyed the occasional trainer and Pokemon that he passed, but he hadn't been attack which was a good sign. At least he hadn't tried to steal anyone's food this time. See? For every cloud there's a silver lining. Melody didn't see it that was and just found all of this running far too tiring. She wasn't exactly an Olympic athlete, and while she was keeping up with Haymitch to some extent, it was obvious that he would be able to run an awful lot longer than she could. Luckily the Normal-type stopped upon arrival t Accumula.
"Oi, if you run off one more time, it's back in the Apricorn ball for you!"
Haymitch gave a somewhat annoyed look, and then moved over to Melody's side, trying to stay at the same pace as her walking speed. Why did she have to walk so slowly? Even Sephy could keep up with him, but just because his new "trainer" was too slow to run like the two Pokemon could. Persephony wasn't really bothered, but it was clearly annoying the rather hasty and impatient Patrat. But now they were in town, and Melody found herself almost being drawn to the Pokemon centre. It made sense though. A trainer must make sure that her Pokemon are in tip-top condition for any trip outside of a town, even if the person's Pokemon were the single most epic two Pokemon in Unova – ever. Ok, Melody's Pokemon weren't the two single most epic Pokemon in Unova (ever), but it was a start at least. Either way, Melody moved over to the entrance to the Pokemon centre which was near enough by the entrance to the city actually. Melody stood in front of the doors waiting for them to spring open. It was a typical part of most Pokemon centres to have them fitted with automatic doors. Pretty much every Pokemon centre in Sinnoh and the other regions used them in case of an emergency so you didn't have to wast precious seconds opening the doors and you could just go right on through. But then it hit Melody. Not the realisation if why it hadn't opened yet, but the door itself. Someone on the other side had pushed the door open and it hit Melody square in the face. She was stunned for a few moments, and pinched her nose slightly. After being hit like that she wouldn't be surprised if she had a nose bleed.
"Oh, I'm sorry I-" said the person who had opened the door causing Melody the injury.
Melody shook her head. "No, no. I'm Ok... I think." Her voice sounded a little odd considering she had covered her nose, but it didn't really matter in all honesty. Melody wiped her nose with her fore-arm to check whether or not she had a nose-bleed.
She didn't, which was lucky, and Melody pushed open the door to go inside. She hadn't remembered that Unova didn't use electricity, so there was no way they could have electric doors fitted. Still, inside the Pokemon centre didn't look too different from the one back in Celestic town. Sure it kept a more rugged feel, and it was devoid of electrical equipment, but it was more familiar than the rest of the town had been so far.
xx
About half and hour had passed since Melody's arrival in Accumula, and she had been waiting somewhat impatiently for the people at the Pokemon Centre to return both Persephony and Haymitch back to full health. Just as Melody had expected, the healing services weren't nearly as quick or efficient as the ones in Sinnoh were. Once again a down-side of Unova's lack of electricity. Still, the doctors here didn't do a bad job, and soon any injuries from the two Pokemon had been washed away and replaced with a new excitement and enthusiasm for the trip, much the same as Melody still had. But now Melody was spending the short amount of free time glancing through the PokePedia, and it was surprisingly well informed about every Pokemon in Unova. Some she made note of to try and catch, others she had decided to stay well away from. The later mostly consisted of Pokemon that would happily tear a person to pieces on sight. Still, she was occasionally drawn to information about her two current Pokemon. Oshawott and Patrat. She checked over a little about their evolutions, moves and abilities. Unfortunately both Seph and Haymitch were still fairly low level Pokemon so most of the moves were a long way off. Still, it put things into perspective over how much she would have to train them over the course of this travel to become as powerful as those that you see on television like when they would play videos of tournaments back home. Melody doubted anyone had a television here in Unova due to the lack of electricity, but she didn't particularly mind. She was here to battle, not to watch TV. Picking up the PokePedia from the table and letting Haymitch and Persephony wander beside her, she began to leave the Pokemon centre, still flicking through the many pages of the thick encyclopedia of Pokemon. She pushed open the door with her arm – now remembering that it wasn't automatic – and began to wander through the city. She really should have been paying attention to where she was going though.
Tripping on a loose part of the path, she flew straight forward and landed on the ground with a painful thud. 'Why is Unova determined to beat me up?' she thought, as she glanced up.
She wasn't injured, just bruised like when she had been hit in the nose. Melody had always been a little clumsy before, but this was just ridiculous. Clambering back up, she quickly dusted herself off rather casually, and then knelt back down to pick up the PokePedia, or at least what remained of it. It was rather obvious that Melody's encyclopedia hadn't been in the greatest shape to begin with, as a good five pages had fallen out of the book completely. Quickly gathering them up and stuffing them back into the PokePedia in a random position, she sighed and then stood back up.
"Now, that wouldn't have happened with a Pokedex," muttered Melody. "I really need to find out why Unova hates electricity so much..."
A flash of inspiration finally came to Lily as she finally remembered a book from her childhood. Grinning she turned back to her Pokemon and said, "I got it! How about Dixie? After the dog Winn-Dixie from Because of Winn-Dixie? Except Winn-Dixie is way too long so just Dixie?"
"Lilli lil," the Lillipup made a comment to Eragon who was just standing there looking rather bothered shrugged her small shoulders to in response. The Lillipup then nodded her head in response a few seconds later saying, "Lil."
"Dixie it is then! Now for some ground rules," Lily said taking a deep breath before saying, "Rule Number one in battle you will listen to my commands if you do not listen I have no quams sending you to the professor's lab for both your safety, the team's safety, and my safety. Understood?"
"Lil lil," Dixie said pointing at Eragon.
"We all ready sorted out Eragon's previous disobedience. She is under the same rules Dixie. Now do you understand," Lily said getting what Dixie was asking about.
"Lil," Dixie responded.
"Rule number two, we are a team unit that means no attacking your fellow teammates unless there is an outside reason. I will excuse what happened earlier since you were still dazed and confused. But unless I dictate otherwise you may not harm Eragon and she may not harm you. If either of you do so same as above, you will be sent to Professor Juniper's lab without warning. Where as normally I would tell you that you are being sent to the lab. Understood?" Lily said throwing in some additional information knowing that she most likely would eventually be sending some of the team to Professor Juniper's lab when the team got big enough.
"Lil," Dixie said nodding her head again this time.
"Okay, then I officially welcome you to our team Dixie," Lily said with a grin splitting her previous serious face.
"Okay now what to do? Do either of you want to return to your Apricorn Balls?" she said quickly to Eragon and Dixie. She wasn't so surprised when Eragon nodded her head yes but was delighted when Dixie opted to remain outside of the ball.
Dixie trotted next to her side as the two continued to explore the town. She came to a stop when she saw some man dressed in a strange outfit lecturing what appeared to be a group of bored youths. 'Wonder what's going on?' Lily thought as she jogged over to the edge of the small group that was gathered.
"...And that's why we should free all Pokemon!" the man finishing up his lecture.
'Free all Pokemon. Okay sounds strange enough all ready,' Lily thought pulling at the hem of the old race t-shirt she was currently wearing. Dixie tilted her head looking kind of curious but kept quiet.
"Like that trainer over there. Girl do you think your Pokemon really wants to travel with you?" the guy said suddenly addressing her.
Lily blinked surprise at the fact she was suddenly being addressed. Pausing for a second she exchanged glances with Dixie who simply shrugged her shoulders. Lily glanced back up at the man and said, "I don't know, I just got Dixie earlier today."
"Hmph, a likely story. How about we battle each other and whoever wins has to give the other something?" the man said.
Lily exchanged glances with Dixie before shrugging and saying, "Sure why not."
"Okay, then clear an area here," the man said making motions at the crowd and soon enough there was enough room cleared for a small decent sized fighting area. He grabbed the lone Pokeball off his belt and launched it in the air yelling, "Go Purrloin show them what Plasma is made of."
'Okay then he wants to apparently free all Pokemon except the one he uses. Weird guy. Well I would like to make a good counterpoint so using Eragon might not be a good idea besides Dixie looks like she would like to give that Purrloin a peace of her mind,' Lily thought herself nodding a little before saying, "In that case I choose Dixie!"
Dixie though surprised at first gladly took her place facing the Purrloin in front of Lily. Her opponent chose to make the first move saying, "Purrloin use a scratch attack."
"Dodge it Dixie and follow it up with a leer!" Lily said giving out the first command that came to mind.
While Dixie was unable to dodge the scratch attack completely she did manage to get the leer in. Thinking quickly Lily opened her mouth and said, "Dixie tackle that Purrlion at a full run!"
Getting a nod and "Lil lil!" in response the guy responded by saying, "Try to get outs of its way and use a Growl on it Purrlion!"
Dixie managed to hit the Purrlion but was hit back by a Growl at the same time as Lily made her next command saying, "Get out of there Dixie and I want you to try, um well. Try running and leering. Run a few feet and then leer and then keep moving until I say stop. And keep doing that until I say stop."
"Try hitting her with a scratch attack any time she stops Purrlion!" the man responded.
Dixie got out of close range with ease beginning to move in a circle. It went on for about five minutes with Dixie succesfully landing only stopping for long enough to get a real quick leer in. And most of the time she was sucessful and was able to get out of the way of the Purrloin before it hit her with a scratch attack. The one time she was unsucessful resulted in the only scratch attack landed since they started the movement.
Comanding Dixie to stop running Lily thought quickly. The four leers should have drained her defense to a great extent leaving the Pokemon open to attack. One more charged Tackle would hopefully do the trick but she wasn't sure if Dixie would survive another scratch attack. Taking a deep breath she spoke again, "Okay Dixie I want you to go all out one last time. Run as fast as you can and Tackle that Purrloin so we can end this battle!"
"Lil Lil!" Dixie responding smashing straight into the Purrlion finally managing to knock her opponent out. Obviously tired out and in need of some much deserved rest Lily returned Dixie to her Apricorn Ball just as the man returned her.
The man humphed crossing his arms frowning saying, "Not bad for a kid. Would you be interested in joining Team Plasma? We work for the freedom of Pokemon."
Lily let out a bit of a nervous laugh before saying, "First of all, not a kid. I'm 16 years old and second of all no offense but I have other things to do than be part of a organization I have no knowledge of. Now give me your end of the deal so I can go take care of Dixie."
Two hours had past and the boy who had just started his journey found himself playing with his ponytail in one of the booths of the pokemon center. In front of him on the table laid a closed pokepedia as well as a piece of paper and pen. For the past hour Trent had been writing a note to his parent seeing as they may wonder where he disappeared to. He knew that he would have to tell them in some way that he left and figured this was the best course of action. No conflict, no distractions just his message. It's not that he didn't want to see his parents one last time before he left, it was that he knew that he couldn't want to see the same face of disappointment from them again. Slowly Trent began to pack his bag, putting the letter in his pocket. He walked out of the pokemon center and stopped at the pokemart up the street briefly to pick up extra supplies for his trip.
As he continued up the street he came to a familiar block. In his head were memories of his and some of his friends playing tag and hiding in neighbor's yards. He was really going to miss it all. "Alright Reina I'm going to need you to do me a favor." Said the boy, as he released the chubby pink pokemon from its apricorn ball. "You see that white paneled house over there. I need you to take this note and stick it on the door with this." The Audino nodded and took the piece of paper and tack from him. Trent watched from down the street as the pokemon neared his door and began to try and pin up the note. Before the pokemon could finish the task the door opened revealing a rather nervous looking woman. Startled the pokemon dropped the note at the woman's feet and hurried back toward Trent. Picking up the note the woman immediately recognized the handwriting to be her son's and chased after the pokemon, her long black hair flowing behind her. "Hurry Reina!" Trent yelled as he race around the corner and into a man who was standing on a milk crate.
"You rotten good for nothing kid" barked the man. The man got back to his feet towering over Trent who was still getting up, his Audino now by his side. "Hmph so you're a trainer. You're the kind of people I was protesting about. You all go around the world enslaving pokemon and having them do your bidding against their will. Pokemon deserve better than that. They deserve to roam free and not have to worry about trainers stealing them from their land. Or worry about the abuse they face from battling with someone they don't truly care for." The man's speech continued for another minute or so giving Trent's mother time to catch up to him.
"Not all trainers are like that!" Trent called out finally growing annoyed with the man. "That's not my intent to have pokemon be subservient to me. I may have only been a trainer for today but I've already learned that it's possible for a pokemon and a person to be a team, even if it's the trainer who has to suffer from time to time. Besides I'm sure that apricorn ball on your belt isn't just decoration."
"Trent don't provoke him, he may hurt you." Trent's mother said softly. The man chuckled "You should listen to your mommy kid. You wouldn't stand a chance against me."
"I beg to differ. Reina lets show him what teamwork can do." "Audi, Audino." Replied the pokemon as it took a battle stance several feet in front of Trent. The man again let out a small laugh, this one in disbelief that the boy had actually challenged him. He threw the apricorn ball into the air, moments later revealing a small purple catlike pokemon with a few cream markings on it. Trent immediately recognized the pokemon from the study session during the first half of his pokemon center trip. It was a Purrlion, one of the new pokemon that would appear on route 2. It was funny but Trent was now somewhat glad that Sougen had coxed him into studying up on the pokemon in the area.
"Purrlion use scratch attack." Called the man. The cat took off toward the Audino, bearing its claws as it leaped toward its foe. "Reina brace yourself and counter with a pound attack." The normal type quickly widened its stance slightly and raised both arms above its head in preparation. The Purrlion then swiped its claws at Audino's stomach dealing decent damage but was struck with a heavy blow from the fists of the normal type. The cat pokemon let out a small whimper as it hit the ground.
"Purrlion get up and use scratch attack again." Commanded the man who was clearly flustered by Audino's last attack. The cat stood and shot a look of reluctance toward its trainer before beginning to run circles around the Audino. "I'd like you to try and hit my pokemon with an attack like that again when my pokemon's moving this fast." The Purrlion than started to scratch at the normal type without any stopping between attack. At the pace the cat was moving it would be hard for the Audino to be able to hit it with a pound attack since it usually took a little while to prep.
"If only I could cut the time of the attack in half I could stop it. I doubt that the Purrlion could even take more than one more hit from Reina anyway, since the species isn't known for great defense." As Trent stood there talking to himself under his breath his Audino took on more and more damage.
"See boy you don't care about your pokemon's wellbeing. Look at it, its body is covered in scratches. I can't believe you can call something as atrocious as this teamwork." Said the man mockingly.
"Your pokemon doesn't look too much better" Trent rebuttaled. "It's clearly out of breath; its pace has slowed from what it was originally. This is why I can do this…Reina use pound with one arm!" The normal type did as it was told and slammed its arm downward, the Purrlion once again taking the full force of the hit. "There that should settle this match." Trent said as the dark type laid on the ground unconscious. Both trainers recalled their pokemon to their respective balls the man doing so far more frantically than Trent. Hurrying off the man dropped a small sum of money onto the ground and fled the city toward route 2.
Trent picked up the money and turned back to face his mother. She was just standing there staring at him. It was clear that she knew no matter what she said that Trent was going to leave. Without an exchange of words Trent ran to his mother and gave her a final hug. The final embrace sending a flood of emotion through him. All that could be heard from the two was an occasional sniffle. Slowly pushing away Trent let go of his mother and turned toward route 2. As he walked away tears started to roll down his face and off of his chin. This was the true start of his journey.
Letter
Dear Mom and Dad,
Thank you for all that you've done for me up until now. I know I was never the easiest kid to raise and caused you many a worry. The truth is I can't stay here any longer, I have to move toward what I want to be and not what you expect. I've could never find a way to tell you before and I feel this is the only venue which I can truly express to you how serious I am. I'm starting my journey to be a pokemon trainer today and I won't rest until I become someone that you can be proud to call your son. So for now forget about all of the disappointment, all of the school grades, and even my laziness. All I want is for you to wish me the best and I'll prove to you that this is my true calling. The next time we see each other I hope I can show you how much I've grown not just as a trainer but as a person
Love, Your son Trent.
The ball had made a click sound indicating the capture was successful. "Yes my first catch!" Vyke exclaimed as he picked up the apricorn ball. "Nice work Zet," Vyke said to his Snivy who was ignoring him still mad at him for tossing him through the air like a football. "Fine be mad at me but you won't be able to greet our new friend," Vyke said as he pointed the ball to the sky and the Pidove appeared. The Pidove then ruffled its feathers and stretched out its wings and it floated to the ground. "Pi," The Pidove said softly with a curious but happy face. "Hello Pidove my name is Vyke and this is Zet," Vyke greeted the Pidove. Zet only just made a hissing noise and turned away. "Ignore him he's just a little mad at my method of Pokémon battling," Vyke said to the Pidove making it chuckle a bit. "Let's see are you male or female?" He then questioned as he looked through the pokepedia to find out a way to tell. "Says here that male Pidoves can be territorial," Vyke said aloud as he then noticed his Pidove in a battle stance glaring at a Lilipup scaring it off. "So I guess you're a male," He said as he put away the pokepedia then started thinking of a name. "Do you like the nickname Stryfer?" Vyke asked. "Pi!" The newly named Pidove hummed with a happy face as it flew to Vyke and landed on his shoulder. "Alright then Zet quite being such a baby and say hi to Stryfer!," Vyke shouted to Zet causing the startled Snivy to jump and quickly run to Vyke. "Sni," Zet said lowly waving his hand at Stryfer. "Pidove!" Stryfer happily waved back. "See we're all friends here now one question Stryfer were did my coat fly off to?" Vyke then asked Stryfer who then took off quickly to go retrieve his trainer's coat. "At least he listens to me," Vyke said to Zet who was playing with a flower. Stryfer came flying back with Vyke's coat in his beak and then dropped it into his hands. "It seems to be a nice spring day out so no need for my coat," Vyke then said as he tossed his jacket over his shoulder and his shirt still in his right hand. "Alright then guys let's get going," Vyke said as he started walking past the tree he had been resting in. As they walked pass the tree Vyke looked up and notice it had some sort of fruit in it. "Hmm maybe an oran berry?" Vyke thought. "Hey Stryfer your home is around here is that fruit edible?" He then asked Stryfer who was perched on his shoulder. "Pidove!" Stryfer exclaimed as he flew up toward the top of the tree and started plucking berries out of the tree. "Alright!" Vyke happily said as he started catching berries. As Stryfer stopped dropping berries they had a total of at least ten.
"What in the world is that?" Vyke questioned as he noticed the grass rustling nearby him and a white little puff sticking out. "Snivy," Zet hissed as he got into a battle stance. "Pa!" A Pokémon growled as it jumped out from the grass and latched itself to Vyke's face. "Ah get it off my face!" He shouted. "Pidove!" Stryfer shouted as he used a gust attack on Vyke's face. "Pat!" The Pokémon groaned as it was blown of Vyke's face. "Alright then now let's have a Pokémon battle let's go Stryfer!" Vyke exclaimed as he put down the berries. "Zet guard the berries," Vyke commanded as Stryfer flew toward the Pokémon that attacked Vyke. "Hmm let's see that's a Patrat," Vyke said as he pulled out his pokepedia to confirm his guess. "Alright then Stryfer let's get started use gust attack!" Vyke ordered as he looked in the pokepedia for information on the Patrat. "Pi!" Stryfer growled as he started flapping its wings creating the gust attack. "It says here that Patrat is a normal type Pokémon know as the lookout Pokémon, attacks it should know by this level are leer, tackle and maybe if it's a higher level bite," Vyke said as the Patrat flew across the air from getting hit by a gust attack. "Stryfer use another gust attack," Vyke ordered as he put away the pokepedia. As Stryfer use gust attack this time the Patrat quickly dodge it and countered attacked with a tackle lunging itself at Stryfer head first. "Pi!" Stryfer moaned as the Patrat hit him. He staggered back a bit in the air but quickly regained his balance. "Pat," The Patrat snarled at Stryfer. "Stryfer use gust again!" Vyke ordered. "Pidove!" Stryfer shouted as he flapped its wings creating a powerful gust attack.
The Patrat again dodged the gust attack and countered with a tackle attack hitting Stryfer. "Come on Stryfer you were a lot stronger when you fought Zet maybe you're a lot weaker than I thought," Vyke said trying to provoke Stryfer. "Pi," Stryfer growled upset by Vyke's comment and now wanting to prove his strength. Stryfer then started flapping his wings at incredible fast speed creating a mini tornado like the one he created when he fought Zet. "That's what I'm talking about his strength probably has something to do with the Super luck ability he has," Vyke said as the winds started blowing him back. "Pidove!" Stryfer roared as he sent the mini tornado flying at the Patrat. "Pa…" The Patrat said with a concerning look on its face as the tornado came crashing toward it. "Pa!" It groaned as the tornado picked it up started spinning it around and then shot it out flying toward a tree. "A grand slam!" Vyke began. "Alright nice job Stryfer looks like we won," He said as Stryfer came down from the air and landed on his shoulder. The Patrat recovered from the gust attack enough to scamper away from Vyke and his Pokémon. "Great job Stryfer now let's eats some of those berries," Vyke said as he turned around only to find that Zet had eaten half of them. "Sni," Zet lowly said with a guilty look on his face. "Zet you little pig you ate half of the berries man no more for you!" Vyke scolded his Snivy as he picked up the remaining berries. "Let's get moving," Vyke said to Stryfer who was relaxing on his shoulder. "Here have a berry," He then said feeding the Pidove a berry. Zet walked a bit behind Vyke feeling bad about eating all the berries.
The three walked down a path everyone enjoying the berries except Zet who was still in trouble. "It's so nice out today I don't even need my coat or my shirt I love the warmth of the sun on my skin," Vyke said with his coat on his left shoulder and his shirt in his right hand. As they walked down the path some more Vyke noticed a girl seemed to have stumbled down her own path. Vyke was just going to ignore her at first but then he heard something that sparked his interest. The girl had said something about Unova hating electricity. So feeling a bit friendly at the moment he figured why not get into a conversation with the girl. "Hello my name is Vyke Yiro," He began as he walked up to the girl. "Unova doesn't use electricity do to the legendary Pokémon Zekrom, the people fear that if we use electricity we'll provoke his wrath but I figure if I can capture Zekrom we can use electricity and that is my goal as a Pokémon trainer," He said with a smile on his face
Melody spent a few more minutes standing in the middle of the pathway trying to get the sheets of paper back into the right order. Let's see... Drilbur is number 035, which means it goes after 034 which is Kokoromori. But then where does Monmen go? Hold on, is Zorua 035? Within seconds Melody had given up. She'd try and do this before going to sleep later on today when she wasn't stopping people's trips around the city of Accumula. It was kind of funny actually, even though Melody couldn't quite work out why. She let out an involuntary chuckle and moved to the side, her Pokemon followed swiftly. She took this time to brush herself off quickly and then move a few strands of long red hair from in front of her face. Haymitch and Sephy began to dart around the immediate area, clearly enjoying themselves. Melody was still getting used to both the concept of travel and the lack of electricity. Everything had such a different feel here. Even the subtle things that never required electricity like the pavement felt strange, as if she wasn't standing on the same land anymore. But then again, she wasn't. This was Unova, not Sinnoh. There were a lot of differences here, and she'd either have to embrace them or go back home. Melody's determination though made the later impossible. So that left one option. Charge forward through everything and try to do something worthwhile out here. Whatever that was, it wasn't going to happen soon. Mostly because she had no idea what to do now that she had gotten here. The extent of the plan was travel, although most people came here for the Pokemon League. The others came here for Contests, while very few were here to simply see the sights. Maybe Contests would be fun, who knows? Still, the Pokemon League was popular, so it must have something about it which allows that. Melody would have to try a little on either side to see which was better, or at least she preferred. But now all she had to do was get to the next town, which just so happened to be Striaton City.
"Hello, my name is Vyke Yiro."
The voice seemed to come from no-where as Melody was deep in her own day-dream over what she would do later in this region. She turned to face the boy who stood in front of her. He was taller than Melody by a good few inches, although that's not saying much as she was fairly short anyway. This "Vyke" also had remarkably white hair which in Melody's opinion was just a little odd. Melody raised an eyebrow though at his introduction and how forward he was being. Even though he was simply stating his name, it still sounded a little odd to say. Still, this was the first polite human conversation she had had since leaving the lab earlier today. The other two had been a brief chat with the nurse asking her to heal Haymitch and Seph while the other had been the person who had battled her earlier, which mostly ended in him getting angry over both the loss of his sandwich and the loss of the battle.
Vyke walked a little closer. "Unova doesn't use electricity due to the legendary Pokemon Zekrom." Melody's ears pricked up at the mention of a legend. "The people fear that if we use electricity we'll provoke his wrath but I figure that if I can capture Zekrom we can use electricity, and that is my goal as a Pokemon trainer."
Capturing a legendary Pokemon? There had been some stories of things like that happening in the past, but those were fleeting rumours, and if not that was mostly spoken of in ancient legends, usually some story of heroism and bravery. In modern day, trying to catch a Pokemon such as Zekrom was never going to happen. Still, Vyke seemed to sound genuinely enthusiastic and determined about the idea. His mind was clearly set on it, and Melody doubted much would stop this other person from changing his mind. In a way, Melody admired his optimism, even if his idea was just a little insane. But then again, sanity was for boring people, and Melody replied to his speech which a tiny smile.
"Even though I can't quite tell if you're being serious or just gone a little crazy, that sounds like fun," she replied, followed by the faintest of chuckles. "I'm Melody by the way. Melody Bennett."
Melody glanced down to her side to see that Persephony and Haymitch had since given up chasing eachother and had sat against a wall and had begun to eat a few berries they had found. Although the trainer was about to ask just who Haymitch had stolen them from – as he almost certainly had done – she decided against it. They probably hadn't stolen it, just borrowed it... without asking. She'd just have to get used to that. A kleptomaniac is always a fun character to have around though, providing that they don't steal everything you own every five minutes. Melody was about to get up a leave, before she realised the one thing that she needed to know to get to this "Striaton City."
"Do you know which way it is to Striaton City?"
