I'd have to agree, Mato's style of drawing was very wierd, since the way Mato drew the main characters made them look kinda younger.
BTW
For those of you who don't know who Mato is, she used to be the illustrator for PokeSpecial.
She did the artwork for the first 9 books. Shortly afterward, she could no longer work, so Satoshi Yamamoto took over for her.
Satoshi has done the artwork from books 10 and onward.

Which brings me to my next topic:

How do you think the characters that appeared after volume 9 would look like if Mato was still the illustrator?

well ruby and sapph will look like kids and in FRLG even when there 16 the original 3 will look like kids

Ruby & Sapphire would look like little kids... and in the flashback they'd look even younger. O_o And in FRLG Red, Green, and Blue would look 13ish instead of 15, and Yellow would look even smaller.

good thing that satoshi took the manga from volume 10 and onward because you can se the difference in volume 10 compare to the others

There would be no growth of the characters. Like in the anime. I love how they chanced the style with the artist. It brings up more sex appeal and more 'evolution' of the main characters. I dunno how to describe it. -.-;

Not that I don't like Mato's style... They were all very cute there. But I approval the change of artist.
