  • I just completed the Pokédex! I have literally nothing to do more XD Really nice hack, keep working like this!

Now you're ready to boot up the TGB-Dual emulator and link battle other people who've completed the Pokedex in Strike! Yellow. After all, I do believe Drake's first intention with this hack was to fix how unbalanced the Gen 1 link cable battles were. Congratulations on completing the Pokedex.

im pretty sure i played the final release and even the very first town viridian city (and the adjacent next routes) itself is still quite a maze

i mean have you actually take a step back and see what you have done with the layouts? no sane modern city planner would have created mazes like that where you have to go one big round with twists and turns just to get to the other side of the city. if there was no speed boost in emulators you would be facing more criticism i imagine.

so i concur with one other guy above that only big dungeons like rock tunnel/mt moon/power plant etc should be turned into mazes. towns and surrounding routes should not be made into tedious walks.

if you like mazes to force sadism on players i feel viridian and its surrounding routes should left as it is since it is only the first city where your pokemon are mostly generally weak and needs much training/pkmn center visits with not much cash to spend. then with difficulty progression you can make pewter/cerulean giant mazes if you want.

Well I do agree with manutdrule. I think things like this are unnecesary, even more when you have to enter in the menú everytime you want to use a HM.

This is the way the generation 1 games have always been ~_~

I see SinisterHoodedFigure in the credits at the bottom of the OP. Anyone familiar with GB/C rom hacking knows he's the creator of Blue Kaizo & Crystal Kaizo. The maps in those games were similar to Strike! Yellow... unnecessarily windy paths, tons of encounters, etc. I always just figured SinisterHoodedFigure helped make the maps in this game, too, or Drake at least tried to emulate his mapping techniques. To be fair, the maps in Strike! Yellow are a lot more tolerable than the maps in Blue/Crystal Kaizo.

yeah i figured that was the case...whole bunch of sadists/masochists they have in the spanish community i guess LOL. "mapping technique"??? LOL its just crude layout crap that would be laughed at in any serious game company team

This is the way the generation 1 games have always been ~_~
i think that poster does know about that fact, hes just stating how much worse it is considering that you have to use the menu to access cut unlike newer generation, further exercerbating the tedium of this so-called hack.

I think you buffed a little too much the starters=(...i feel a little forced it using them now they have a overall of 490 all with super special stat(both for attack and defense)
maybe you can consider to reduce this power a little to an overall of about 450! so they are still over the majority of pokemom but more on par!

That's what real criticism is, positive or negative. Everything's welcome. Even if the thread has a few comments, there are a lot of people who does like all those changes meanwhile some others just don't. Everyone's free to share up the own opinion and I do appreciate it.

SHF just helped me with the AI and Blue Kaizo inspired me to change the map layout but this game was never meant to be as or compete with Kaizo. Kaizo is Kaizo and has its uniqueness.

I made this on purpose to change the Metagame ;)

  • Playing the finished product halfway through; the difficulty is a challenge but it's just right for an original game that had countless cheap ways to win.

    I'm impressed.

  • I'm playing this game and I've found a bug, or at least I think it's one. When you go to the Casino and want to exchange your coins, some of the Pokémons are at lv 255 or 248, like Jynx, Bulbasaur or Aerodactyl, and yes, they have hiper stats XD
THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED TODAY, Pokemon are back to normal. Also, a very small graphics update (map stuff) has been applied. REFRESH YOUR GBC FILE.

Those trainers were originally programmed to face you once you talk to them, it's not a bug. Venusaur learns Sludge Bomb via TM (Fuchsia City's Shop).

    Thanks for the feedback :)

Only thing I can coherently say to you is kudos my man. Fantastic hack and I LOVE that it is a yellow remake because yellow is still my favorite to this day! Also if you made more hacks I would play those as well. Keep it up!

  • Where can I find Staryu? Does it have any new locations besides its original? I'm at Vermillion City with this team:

    Growlithe
    Pikachu
    Weepinbell
    Nidoking
    Pinsir

So I'm hoping to get Staryu soon to complete the team.

Edit: Found Staryu, thanks for the Super Rod. :D I might shaft Weepinbell if it can't get its **** together though.

    Nice you found it :)

Currently, my pc decided to leave me after 8 years and thus, I cannot improve the hack at all (I haven't learnt nothing new as well for the same reason, so...). However, I've posted a poll to see what people has to say about the difficulty of the hack, so probably it could be balanced once more (or not) as soon as I'll have a new pc.

    Regards.

EDIT (14/01/16): Just made some little fixes and put TM12 obtaineable before facing Brock.

Ii was wondering, could you make the hack without the layout overhaul?
Not sure how much work that would be, but the pointless mazes in the game really drags out the fun, although i do like the challenge.

I'll definitely reconsider this. Because I didn't know how to change trainer's spots, I was making every route in the way no one of them can be skipped. Thanks for reminding me this issue. Expect an update as soon as possible.

That would be so great, when i entered team rockets hideout in celadon i was like....really? xD
Great work on the hack btw, really like the challenge, just a shame i cannot get my main team ready before fushia (i want dem lapras, lol)

Maybe, if not asked too much, could you add a .txt with all the encounters of pokemon on each route? (drayano did this with his hacks, and it was a godsend)

Not to sounds like an impatient person (i actually am, lol), but how soon is "as soon as possible"? :P
I just started with a different hack to get me through the waiting time, but if you would have a date on when this is to be expected (no rush) then i can wait for that time.

I just want to play this so bad without the maze-like areas, it is killing me xD
