Will had just arrived at the town of Brightvale, a town he had been to before with his parents. He looked around at all the flowers and trees, taking note how beautiful the town was. He walked by a rose bush and picked one, taking a sniff of it.
"Smells sweet," he said to himself as he pulled his hat down a little bit as people walked by. He didn't want anyone to recognize him. That would cause some problems. After a few minutes of looking around, Will finally arrived at the lab. He knocked on the door and was greeted by one of a tall man in a lab coat. Will figured this was one of Dr. Redwood's assistants.
"Hello, my name is Will," Will said, knowing that Dr. Redwood was expecting him.
"Well hi Will, Dr. Redwood is right in here."
Will nodded and came in, not removing his bag from his shoulders. He looked around until the same assistant Will met told Will to follow him. Will obliged and followed quietly. He came into a room lined with bookshelves filled with books. Will looked at the titles of some of them, but he had never seen them before. He then saw the infamous Dr. Redwood, the lead researcher an authority on Creatures. The assistant quietly left the room as Dr. Redwood pointed at the chair in front of him, indicating Will to sit.
"Thank you sir," said Will as he slid his bag off and sat down.
"So, you're William Thomas the Third, correct?" asked the renowned professor, who sounded old and very wise.
"Yes sir, I am, but can you please just call me Will? My family name isn't loved by many."
"I understand."
Will suddenly stood up as he heard a sound coming from the room over. He recognized it, but he couldn't tell what it was.
"Ah. You must be hearing the Creatures. Be patient, as you will have one for yourself soon." said Dr. Redwood, as he started coughing a little bit. His age was catching up to him.
"Creatures? You mean, I get to have one?" asked Will, surprised by this.
"Why of course," said Dr. Redwood, who coughed before continuing. "How can you go on a journey about Creatures without one of your own?"
Will just smiled at the old man. He was ready to start on his journey, but he sat back down and listened.
"So, what will I need?" asked Will, impatience showing in his voice.
"You will need this notebook, here." said the man who was now barely even able to talk. His eyes were being drained of life. The professor handed Will a notebook that was filled with pictures and notes about the numerous plants and wildlife of the region. "That notebook holds information that will help you on your journey."
"So, what will I exactly be doing?" asked Will, who was basically running in his seat.
"You will be gathering information on various other Creatures, their habitats, etc, etc. I see you are ready to get going?"
Will quickly nodded his head, ready to get his Creature.
"Dustbeak, come here to me," said Dr. Redwood.
Suddenly, from behind the door, a faint scratching was heard. After one of assistants came and opened the door, Will was greeted by the site of what appeared to be a giant eagle with red and gold hair.
"This must be his Creature," thought Will, already seeming as if he was taking a memory photograph of the majestic Creature. Will then noticed this "Dustbeak" carrying several metal rings in its beak. It came to its master and dropped the rings into its master's hands.
"Thank you friend," said the eldery professor as he took the rings and gave them to Will.
"Those rings... will let you capture wild Creatures, but you must knock them out first with your Creature. After that, just immobilize the Creature with the rings and take it to the next town. The townsfolk should know what to do then."
Dr. Redwood smiled at Will and then started standing up. He reached his hand out towards Will, who also stood. Will shook the professor's hand, making sure to be careful.
"Thank... you."
After saying those words , Dr. Redwood fell behind his desk. His Dustbeak let out a shrill cry as it went to be by its master. Most of the assistants came in as well. However, Will was behind the desk holding the professor before they came in. Will was concerned and worried about the great man. The assistants told Will that they would take him from there and for Will to go to the room they had just came from. Will grabbed his bag and walked to the next room.
It was there he saw them...
All the Creatures in the room, they fascinated Will. He saw one that looked like a small boulder with muscular arms, another that appeared to be a bluish-green bat, one that was small and purple with a small horn, one that looked to be a walking weed, and finally he saw it. He recognized the Creature as the "fish" he caught a few years ago.
"Magi Magikarp," said the red fish as it weakly splashed around in its cage. It then looked up at Will and started splashing at him rather excitedly.
The same assistant that greeted Will came in and saw Will looking at the red "fish."
"That is a Redcarp," said the assistant, walking up behind Will. "It is fairly weak compared to the other Creatures. Why don't you choose one of them?"
Will then looked at the assistant and back at Redcarp.
"I was once weak too...This guy will one day be strong with my help, I'm sure of it!"
"Na, I want this guy," said Will has he gently put his hand on the Creature, calming it down.
"Okay, but I warned you," said the assistant as he opened the cage. Redcarp immediately jumped into Will's arms, thankful that someone has chosen him.
"He can survive in and out of water, so don't worry about him breathing," said the assistant as he locked the cage back. "Now are you sure about your decision?"
"I am positive sir. I believe Redcarp and I are going to be the best of friends," said Will as he held the Redcarp, who was rather happy and excited to be out of its cage and going on a journey.
"Magikarp karp!" said the Redcarp as it started jumping in and out of Will's arms.
"Take care!" said the assistant as he opened the back door of the lab. Will nodded his head and ran outside. He kept on running, excitement coursing through him. Redcarp just looked around amazed at what he was seeing. He was out of his cage, and he was going on a journey, where he will explore, fight, and just have fun!
Suddenly, Will stopped and put Redcarp into a small pond as he got a silver bandana from a side pocket of his bag.
"I should have done this earlier, but I forgot about it," said Will as he tied the bandana on to Redcarp's left whisker.
"Magikarp!" Redcarp jumped into the air again with delight. He liked his new accessory.
"Glad ya like it," said Will as he picked Redcarp back up.
"That bandana is a good luck charm of mine. Maybe it will help us both on our adventure."
With that, Will started running again with Redcarp in tow. They were ready for their big adventure.
