[Released] Pokemon This Gym of Mine / Rank Up Edition

Well with a new version apparently coming soon I might be a bit late on this, but I found some bugs and typos.

Spoiler: Bugs and stuff

And I agree with what some others have said that all the starters should be available elsewhere. I'm not saying the game should have every Pokemon ever available in it. It just sucks when, say, you want to do a water type gym, want to use Lapras, see that Lapras is available but only as an ice-type starter, think "that's fine, I'll catch my own Lapras later in the game", only to find out that no, there is no "later in the game", Lapras is only there as an ice-type starter. Yeah, that's what happened when I played the original.

I remember reading a line of dialogue that all the starter Pokemon don't naturally appear in the region the game takes place in. Maybe make a feature that when you reach a certain rank, you're able to import those foreign Pokemon.

Thank you for the feedback! I'm a bit hesitant to make the starters available in the main game. For one, they all have boosted stats, save for the pseudo-legends. Each one has a stat distribution on par with other pseudos. On top of that, many of them are popular Pokemon, which I wanted to limit to some degree. I wanted to encourage people to branch out and try some less used Pokemon instead of just sticking to what they know. I do plan to make starter mons available at some point, but it would be as part of post-game content.

Perhaps a good compromise would be to make sure that if a pokemon is of a given type, then they should be available for players who chose that typing. Lapras being available for both ice and water gyms, for example, or Gardevoir being available for both fairy and psychic gyms.

The problem with that is that he'll be stuck with the lose-lose situation of either a) certain types having more than 3 starters, or b) having to cut several starters out of the pool so that every type has 3. And if he went out of his way to buff almost every starter (I had no idea about that, that's actually pretty cool!) then he's definitely not gonna choose option b.

I don't think that some types having more than three starters is a particularly big deal, personally. It's not really going to stop people from using those types or anything and as long as they do at least have three then there's still options.

Both your examples are popular pokemon, which he has stated wanting to limit. Having them locked to one type of gym might be what someone needs to try out a gym type they normally wouldn't. Your also asking to have the game imbalanced solely for what you want. He'd have to shuffle around all the starters since many could be in a different type gym and personally I rather he work on what he'd like to, rather than redoing something that doesn't actually need to be changed.

The much more likely outcome is that people just won't bother even playing. People have their preferred pokemon and being unable to use them is quite frequently a deal breaker for them. Especially when they're limited in arbitrary ways.

Some people won't play it and some people will. You not gonna please everyone.

It's not arbitrary reasons, and even if it was, that's their choice. They are developing the game the way they want, not the way you want.

Will we have WASD movement/options to do so in the updated version? Or built in controller support? A lot of people have no directional keys/numpad and so can't play easily or at all without a ton of work.

got to play rank up for the first time and i really enjoy the changes you made! im happy i can play as a girl and have been personally trying to have a flustered themed fairy team! ty for all ur hard work!

I haven't played Rank Up edition yet, but I remember that the classic didn't have Buneary available and it really killed me to not have my favourite pokemon. (It's Buneary, not Lopunny). I did enjoy the game, but as stated earlier by someone, it's a deal breaker to not have any way to get my favourite (whether it's through Debug or otherwise) when I check out a new game.

I am excited for the Rank Up edition regardless, this was one of the more appealing fan games out there

Posting this as a big fan of this project. I've been watching this for almost a year and fell in love before the Rank Up, but I do have a big critique so far that tends to turn me off whenever I try to play.

I'll bring up the one type as a main example, but it extends to the other types as well. I think the way "Starters" work needs to be tweaked. I've been super interested in playing a Bug Gym run, but it's incredibly hard not because of the typing, but because of the lack of available bug types. I think the starters you can choose at the start of a run should be available elsewhere in the game somehow, even if very rare. Dwebble is a perfect example. With a complete absence of Electric Bugs, Dwebble is the only bug in the game capable of countering flying types, and if you choose any other bug starter it's guaranteed a painful run.

Like I said, Bug type the best example, but it extends to others. But even Skorupi is a monster bug type, locked as a poison starter. I know this is super silly this huge dramatic post over the lack of bug pokemon BUT IT MAKES ME SAD OKAY 😭

I feel like even just adding some of the big boys would make things way more bearable, but the only good bug types just coming from the start of the game has been frustrating me for a minute now. This extends to Electric types too. If I'm blind then that's on me, but the lack of a electric den or something is crazy to me.

I'm very aware how much work this game is still under, and if these are improvements planned or coming to the game then ignore this lmao. But coming from a big fan of this Rom please for the love of God add more buggos to the game 🙏🙏🙏

Critiques aside, I fucking love this game. I've been wishing for a game like this for years and I'm dying to see more lmao. Keep up the good work king 👑, this is the first Pokemon game I've enjoyed for a long time.

Dev already said no to this, if they make starters available, it will be post game content.

Hello, everyone! Apologies for the wait, some aspects of the game are taking a bit longer than expected. Despite this, Rank Up Edition is coming along at a nice pace! At the moment, the main goal is to finalize designs for new Pokemon and bring older sprites closer to par with other newer sprites.

Here are a few examples:

In addition to these changes, certain Pokemon sprites have been altered, as well. Since there are a number of regional variants in Pokemon This Gym of Mine, I wanted it to be easier to tell at a glance what variant a Pokemon will evolve into.

Take a guess what variants these Pokemon will evolve into:

There has also been an effort to add in Pokemon and moves from the newer titles, Legends: Arceus and Scarlet/Violet:

Speaking of new Pokemon, here are some brand-new additions to Pokemon This Gym of Mine: Rank Up Edition!
Spoiler: New Pokemon

Getting away from Pokemon for a second, Umbal City's Commercial District, which will become available in this upcoming update, is receiving a major rework! In Rank Up, the Commercial District unique buildings will be scrapped. In their place will be 3 city projects! These projects will not only increase your revenue, but will have other uses for you to utilize! Stay tuned for more info as it progresses!

Finally, I would like to tease one of the Business Trips that would become available during the next update. To recap, Business Trips are similar to vacations, letting you visit other areas of your region, but with special events and storylines, such as one that ties into the story of the Even Badderlands!
Spoiler: Business Trip Teaser

Thank you all for your patience with Rank Up Edition! Development will continue at a steady pace, with more frequent progress reports to come! Until then, I hope you all have a nice day!
