[Released] Pokemon This Gym of Mine / Rank Up Edition

Well with a new version apparently coming soon I might be a bit late on this, but I found some bugs and typos.

Spoiler: Bugs and stuff

And I agree with what some others have said that all the starters should be available elsewhere. I'm not saying the game should have every Pokemon ever available in it. It just sucks when, say, you want to do a water type gym, want to use Lapras, see that Lapras is available but only as an ice-type starter, think "that's fine, I'll catch my own Lapras later in the game", only to find out that no, there is no "later in the game", Lapras is only there as an ice-type starter. Yeah, that's what happened when I played the original.

I remember reading a line of dialogue that all the starter Pokemon don't naturally appear in the region the game takes place in. Maybe make a feature that when you reach a certain rank, you're able to import those foreign Pokemon.

Thank you for the feedback! I'm a bit hesitant to make the starters available in the main game. For one, they all have boosted stats, save for the pseudo-legends. Each one has a stat distribution on par with other pseudos. On top of that, many of them are popular Pokemon, which I wanted to limit to some degree. I wanted to encourage people to branch out and try some less used Pokemon instead of just sticking to what they know. I do plan to make starter mons available at some point, but it would be as part of post-game content.

Perhaps a good compromise would be to make sure that if a pokemon is of a given type, then they should be available for players who chose that typing. Lapras being available for both ice and water gyms, for example, or Gardevoir being available for both fairy and psychic gyms.

The problem with that is that he'll be stuck with the lose-lose situation of either a) certain types having more than 3 starters, or b) having to cut several starters out of the pool so that every type has 3. And if he went out of his way to buff almost every starter (I had no idea about that, that's actually pretty cool!) then he's definitely not gonna choose option b.

I don't think that some types having more than three starters is a particularly big deal, personally. It's not really going to stop people from using those types or anything and as long as they do at least have three then there's still options.

Both your examples are popular pokemon, which he has stated wanting to limit. Having them locked to one type of gym might be what someone needs to try out a gym type they normally wouldn't. Your also asking to have the game imbalanced solely for what you want. He'd have to shuffle around all the starters since many could be in a different type gym and personally I rather he work on what he'd like to, rather than redoing something that doesn't actually need to be changed.

The much more likely outcome is that people just won't bother even playing. People have their preferred pokemon and being unable to use them is quite frequently a deal breaker for them. Especially when they're limited in arbitrary ways.

Some people won't play it and some people will. You not gonna please everyone.

It's not arbitrary reasons, and even if it was, that's their choice. They are developing the game the way they want, not the way you want.

I think there are enough Pokemon in the game that you can still easily build a team with just one starter. You only need a team of three for a big part of the game, which is very easy to get especially if you consider Pokemon of other types that can use your type's signature move. By the time you need a larger team, you have access to the other islands so getting a full team is not a problem. Next demo will add even more Pokemon so it'll be even easier to fill a team. Players normally only have access to one starter, this game should be the same. However, one solution to the "problem" is include the starters in the wild but the wild versions have normal BST instead of pseudo legend BST. I think the game is super easy, so my opinion is it would be a better use of time to make progress elsewhere.

Will we have WASD movement/options to do so in the updated version? Or built in controller support? A lot of people have no directional keys/numpad and so can't play easily or at all without a ton of work.
