Pokemon unfair in WiFi?

over the years, I remember being horribly restricted in getting the "event" Pokemon. I never got Mew for R/B/Y, no celebi, or jirachi,or any of the other uber annoying yet cool Pokemon.

Then D/P/Pt came around, and viola! WiFi! but I still feel like I was getting.... unfairly treated, for lack of a better (non discriminatory) term. Once in a while, we would get something decent, that was borderline "necessary" for the story line. while Japan got Special event after special event. Take 2010 for instance, We got 12 wifi events, mostly for legendary Pokemon. Japan got a special Pikachu, a Sizor... they even got a Darkri for black and white via a store giveaway....

now they have all these backgrounds for the C gear, Pokédex, and Musical.... what do we have? some shiny dogs and some downloads at Toy'r'us... does toy'r'us still exsist?

I just feel like Japan gets much better deals on the "downloadable content" I understand it's a Japanese game, but it's the #1 turn-off for me and if it weren't for the wifi ability now... i think i may have decided to stop playing pokemon a long time ago...

I understand it's a Japanese game

You have your answer. I wouldn't call it unfair. For example, when I play an MMO whose headquarters are in California, I play on California time. Is it unfair that the times for daily events are inconvenient for me because they're 3 hours later? No, the game is made in California so the servers are on California time, it's that simple.

Do I wish we had more events? Sure. But I wouldn't call it unfair at all.

there's many events that are "japan only" it's been like that for ages, and when they do come to the US (at least) they're at places that a lot of people can't get to, i haven't seen a toys-r-us in forever, and the nearest game-stop is a good couple miles away.

They made the WiFi, but they rarely seem to use it... and things like the competition give-aways... shiny eevees, special Crobats... it's kinda upsetting to know they're out there, but many can't "legitimately" get them.

The only way I've EVER completed a pokedex is via AR or emulation....

Man, am I sure glad that i live in a large urban area, or else I'd be super peeved that I can't download mews and jirachis everyday.

...ohwait, I don't care either way. XD

Am I reading serebii wrong, or does the Japan Darkrai event say "In-Life", meaning you have to go somewhere to get it? Same with Audino, Shelmet, Karrablast, Magmar, Electabuzz, Scyther, Haunter, Slowpoke, Machoke, Chimchar, Pikachu, Charmander, Celebi, the shiny dogs, and Eevee? This isn't a complaint you have with the US, it's a complaint you have with Gamefreak. Also, I'm sorry that the free giveaways of the international company don't coincide with what's near you. The town around my college is tiny, but we have both a Gamestop and a Toys R Us available to us, so the fact that you can't reach one is kind of a moot point.

Also, as far as Pokedexes...I'm not sure if you mean a region Pokedex or a National one, but protip: it's not supposed to be easy to complete a Pokedex. You're not supposed to spend a week catching Pokemon and say "Okay, I'm done, game over". You're supposed to spend a long time, negotiating on the GTS, borrowing Pokemon from friends, breeding and taking advantage of timed events. It's supposed to long and arduous and only for people that care enough about the game.

Are you also complaining that people who win tournaments get special Pokemon? Really? Do you want them to get shafted for all the hard work, probably months or more put into the game, all that effort?

But but those downloads aren't limited to just California, nor do you have to find some out-of-the-way place of business to get the download.

all I'm saying, is couldn't they just make it easier to get the downloads they do offer. Like I really wanted to get the Egg download for B&W, but it's at toys-r-us. or the shiny Jhoto dogs, which were at Gamestop... (which I tromped through 2 1/2 miles of foot deep snow just for one, but that's besides the point).

The thing is, they have this WiFi system, but I don't understand why they don't use it more.

Probably because when it's Wi-Fi, it's just a free giveaway for no reason other than being a free giveaway. When it's in-store, it's a free giveaway that the store is most likely paying them for, so they give away a few pixels and the cash rolls in.

If they started doing all Wi-Fi events, people with WPA security, at a college where there DS can't hook up, or are unable to use the internet with their DS for another reason would complain and ask them to do in-store events so they're not left out.

In the years 2010 and 2011, there have been 16 Pokemon available via WiFi, and 13 available through in-life events. 2 of those were tournament Pokemon, one was the B/W Tour Celebi, and 4 of them were offered on WiFi as well. I feel like that's a good balance. It feels like they haven't done many because they haven't been doing as many lately, but overall it's balanced.

The solution is ultra simple.

They should do events both "In-store" AND "On Wifi"
It doesn't matter if the "Wifi" portion of the event is sometime later after the associated "In-store" event is over, but I believe that Game Freak shouldn't leave players out like this, the Wifi distribution system is very viable and useful.

There isn't an excuse for not fairly deploying events.
I understand that some events are meant to be exclusive though to a country. Shouldn't be exclusive to more than that though. No "In-store only" downloads, must distribute same event via wifi concurrently or at a later date after the "in-store" event.
Tournament prizes are obviously exempt from this.

Wi-Fi is unreliable for me, because I'm just one of those people that live close to a GameStop. TRU events can suck my hand though. That place is hours away. If they wanna do events at a store, just do GameStop. It looks weird for older players to go to Toys-R-Us. Seriously. Wi-Fi is fine too, but not all of us have it at our own convenience. I have to get out and go to McDonalds and look like a creeper. And even then, the DNS always changes and the Wi-Fi doesn't like to behave. But other than that, I don't have a bunch of complaints. Why would I want a special Pikachu or Scizor? lmao

Best thing I can say..Move to Japan, or get over it. I understand that it may be unfair in your eyes, but in mine its totally fair. The game was made in Japan, and thus it will of course have the best st00f for it. Now, if it was made in the USA, then it would most likely be flipped. We would get a ton of events, and they would get a dozen or two. Now, we do get more and more events per year, so its is progressing ^_^. Yes, Toys R US still exists, there is one about 2-3 miles away from me. As for you quitting because you cant get some limited edition Pokes, stop Q.Q ing. Seriously, they are pixels, and its not big a deal. I myself sold my White version to a friend and buying Black soon, and I know I wont get Victini cause the event will be long over, and I probably wont pay attention to any other event, but im not losing any sleep over it. The event Pokes are just marketing strategy to get more people to get Pokemon, and to spice it up and keep it a bit more interesting. So yeah...Get over it.

Sorry if I sounded like I was raging, I wasnt..Just I dislike incompetent fools :D.

It's fair dude. If you want it enough you can get it. I will go an hour away sometimes just to get Pokemon. We usually do other stuff there but still. Stop whining, move to Japan or stop crying about ub3r p0k3manz.

The problem with this is, what store is going to actually pay them when they know that less people will come in because you can get it over Wi-Fi later? If I didn't have to go to Gamestop for an event, I would wait. There are tons of people who would as well, which means they're going to get paid less for the chance to offer it. No matter how much bold, italicized text you post on a random Pokemon forum, I highly doubt you're going to convince Gamefreak to make less money to accommodate people who are unwilling/unable to go to a Gamestop.

I honestly am happy that they choose to give away anything, considering the fact that once we buy the game, we could just be done. They could give out the last three legendaries as tournament prizes, not give us any in-store or Wi-Fi events, and we'd still buy the game I'm sure.

If you think you have it bad then think about this in Ireland there are no store promotions 0,zip,zilch,nada ever and my WIFI doesn't work

Thing is, though, many of the recent GameStop exclusive events have later come to be over WiFi, so, really, GameStop pays to get exclusive first rights and to get people in their doors, banking on the chance that people will think that this will be one of those events that doesn't go onto WiFi at a later date.

Yikes... this is quite an issue, isn't it? :\

To be fair, I agree with Cyndaquil312. I don't live ANYWHERE near a Toy's R Us. I only have Gamestop and Wi-Fi.

I can't just go to Gamestop whenever the mood strikes me. And I can't likewise just leave town and go searching for a Toy's R Us. So... If the event isn't Wi-Fi compatible, or I can't get to a Gamestop, then I can't get the event Pokemon. To put it bluntly... it just sucks. :(

I also wish they had more Wi-Fi events. If they did, I could get more event Pokemon. :D

But if they all went to Wi-Fi then there wouldn't be a chance that it wouldn't, that's the point. I know if I had the chance to get, say, an Arceus both in Gamestop and later in Wi-Fi, then I wouldn't go through the effort of going to the Gamestop and getting it. A lot of people would feel the same way, and either Gamestop would end up paying them less for the events, or they wouldn't happen at all and they would all be Wi-Fi, which then leaves the door open for people with no Wi-Fi DS access to complain.

I'm a cheapskate who does not want to go all the way to Gamestop or Toys R us every time there's an event, so I just find the .PKM files, do a little bit of stat editing so I won't be screwed over by bad natures or IV's with the bonus of having them EV trained, and download them onto my cartridge. By this point, I don't care where they come from just as long as they can get past Nintendo's filters and the stats remain fair for battling.

You guys know that the stores that participate in the store events have to pay for these downloads right? Its not just Gamefreak doing, Gamestop and Toys R Us's corporate have to pay to get these downloads and then they pick the stores they want to ship them to based on over all store sales.

The stores then have to file a formal report to the corporate office and to Gamefreak's office. Then Corporate has to file a report on the gross downloads from all the participating stores.

If they get a lot of downloads and good reviews from the stores hosting the events, then we get more Events, some wifi (which is solely sponsored by Gamefreak and is money out of their pocket) and the rest are store ran (paid for by the corporate offices of those stores.)

Japan gets more Wifi and store ran Events because Gamefreak is centered in Japan and it costs less to produce the events there. Since it saves more money for them this way, they can do it more often. They also own their own stores in Japan as well as a few gimmick stores just for Pokemon that pay commission to Gamefreak.

Its a matter of what sells more and what costs less. Japan is the home, easier to produce lower costs with higher income because they control it themselves rather than having to go through external mediums.

I WOULD like more events, but its very unlikely. (I wanted the Scizor >.<)
