As the previous thread appears to be gone, I'd like to start a new one.

This little thread was in it's previous incarnation known as "Pokemon Guru", where you can ask a question about anything in-universe about Pokemon, and people can try and give answers to it. Topics that have been touched upon include Pokeballs, the move Return, Type matchups, and Porygon's existence. If I can find some the (most excellent) explanations on these things, I'll be happy to post them here.

EDIT: speaking of, here's a collection of answers from the aforementioned Guru thread. Thank you, Scientist. >>clickyclicky<<

If this thread takes off, I'd like to request sticky.

So, for a first question: Which Pokemon is strongest, musclewise? It's okay to ask other questions too.

This sounds like a great idea. This could help out a lot of people and fuel some creative discussion about the Pokemon world.

    Anyway, to answer your question, I think that Machamp is the biggest Pokemon musclewise because, well, look at it..XD;

Or it could be Hariyama. While the sumos are fat, they certainly pack a fair bit of muscle too..

I have a question: Why do Nintendo force gems into the foreheads of the in-game feline beings? (you know, Espeon, Meowth, Persian..)

I think it's just for the design and because it holds significance to the Pokemon. Espeon has a red bead on its forehead because it's a symbol of Espeon's psychic ability, and also a reference to Hindu, whom wears beads on their foreheads for a multitude of reasons, one being to enhance calirvoyant abilities. Meowth and Persian have gems on their forehead becaue they were created to be "pampered" cats. Meowth is a theif-like Pokemon so it has a gold coin on its forehead signifiying it likes shiny things. Persian has a gem to signify its glamour and position as a regal Pokemon.

Question: Why did GameFreak decide to make feminie Pokemon like Milotic, Espeon, Gardevoir, Mawile, Gorebyss, Plusle, and Lopunny be capable of being male in gender?

Since when does Espeon look feminine? ._.?

In reality, lots of different creatures are generally the same in appearance, regardless of gender. Also, Lopunny doesn't have breasts in canon. Gorebyss's shells are likely small fins.

It still doesn't account for Gardevoir, which I assume was just a pre-Gallade thing.

Meowth's coin is some kind of luck amulet or something in Japan, isn't it? I don't know much about that particular subject, though...

    Machamp's arms would explode! Ahh!

    Hehe exploding Machamps.

There are animals that look feminine that can be male, the same goes for Pokemon. For example, Peacocks with the big fancy tails are male, and among birds especially the male animals are usually the more colorful ones.

Meowth's coin could be something that it scavenges and puts on it's head, or considering the existence of Rock-type Pokemon, small crystals being a part of a Pokemon aren't so farfetched. They could be similar to seashells, except instead of being a shell it is something that is like a small crystal that is placed on the Pokemon, usually the forehead.

The strongest pokemon is probably something like Groudon, or Regigigas. Among non-legendarys it might be something like Machamp, or a dragon-type Pokemon like Dragonite or Garchomp.

Hmm, is there a sliding scale of muscularity somewhere?

My vote goes to Machamp (excluding exploding arm syndrome). Four arms should be enough to outmuscle most other pokemon, if you take away their superpower-type abilities. Redstar, you have any input right now? You were awesome last time. I'd call others too, but I can't keep the names and old avatars straight. ><

Ha. I was just browsing and here my name is being called... I haven't exactly followed the thread, but I can offer some points on strength.

In the real-world, strength has nothing to do with mass. An Olympic weight-lifter could easily out-lift and out-endure a body-builder with bulging muscles twice the size of a lifter. Bodybuilders' muscles are typically all water, and, in some cases, pumps and pouches. As the Machop line is largely based on bodybuilders, I would have to say they aren't nearly the strongest Pokemon out there. I'd put my money on Snorlax.

That's what Machamp's belt is for. If you were to remove the belt, sure, Champ would have a few moments where he could rip Mewtwo a new one, but once he started gaining velocity, pop goes the champ.

I think the Gardevoir thing was sort of re-conned with Gallade coming out, too, and Lopunny is just an unfortunate case of designing.

Q: Why is Garchomp Faster then Pidgeot, when Pigeot can fly three times as fast?

I would have to say the strongest pokemon is between monchamp or arrgon!

I reckon snorlax is pretty strong under at that fat

    Also Garchomp uses hax =)

    ... Here's something I've always wondered.

Why are Haunter's hands changing fingers between Generations? In some, they have three fingers, and in other they're four.... I've always liked to think it's a "in-game regional thing" like real life evolution but... it's just kind of strange. o_o?

I guess if you were going to go that way, it could be a regional thing, but, treating it as a game, it's just a redesign.

As for Niprop, I would venture that the Pokedex is exaggerating in this case, perhaps as justification for how fast Fly got you from place to place. That said, it never specifies what kind of jet fighter Garchomp flies just as fast as.

Mr. Mime has the same thing as Haunter. I never noticed Haunter was like Mr. Mime in that way, actually.

well he is a ghost so he can probably grow fingers anyway lol

    Lol yeah.

And Meowth's coin is an Amulet Coin used to make stealing easier.

Also, hell yeah for Dragonite being strongest!!!

    But surely it's Arceus?I mean, he's God.

    Ok, umm.....

Howcomes they made Electivire cool, apart from the tails, yet to make Rhyperior and Magmortar look bigger, they cave them cannons for arms??
