I don't know if I would call adding the functionality of Pokemon having 3 types a "minor change"

  • Six attacks? Four types? The idea sounds fun but it'd be EXTREMELY hard to accomplish (IDK if it's even possible). It's nothing minor to implement. Also, please note that the ROM map is read in a specific way. Like for the pokemon types it gets the data from a specific address. But there are just 2 addresses reserved for types (as a Pokemon can have a max of 2 types). To add 2 addresses and add them in-game and make sure the game can load them is very hard. And I think if you mess too much with it, things that happens with glitch pokemon can happen reguarly.

But this shouldn't stop you from trying. It's fun to mess around a bit with it. The idea is cool, so I wish you goodluck!

At some point, adding "extra" of something that's already in the game just isn't fun for the player or good for gameplay. Types are one of those things. Four-typed Pokemon? Nightmare for the player. You might as well just give no types or all the types at once, because you'll be piling on so many weaknesses and resistances that the player will not be able to do the effectiveness calculations in their head, or remember a Pokemon's weaknesses/resistances in any meaningful way.

Six attacks is possibly a better idea, but not by much. By giving that potential coverage to everything, you'll only be elevating the Pokemon that actually benefit from extra attacks (or that can stand up to a wide breadth of types) and relegating the rest to the garbage bin. In essence, you make the god Pokemon more godly, and the sucky Pokemon worse by comparison. Furthermore, there is no switching game, since everything has the coverage for everything without giving up anything they need to actually function. Battles devolve into who spams the highest powered attack the fastest, and there are no reliable counters, save possibly Pokemon who get weird immunities through your ridiculous type system.

There is no way that interesting and fun gameplay results from this idea. You eliminate the interplay present with existing mechanical limitations by opening everything up like this, while simultaneously making every battle a guessing game/speed war and not adding anything particularly meaningful or fun to make up for their tremendous loss.

Well if you'll actually read my list, only two pokemon have four types and less than a dozen have more than two, others have their types fixed based on the species description i gave or how they look ingame.

Additionally, eliminating the requirement to trade for some and making every transformation level up would mostly be because online rom hacks limit the ability to link-up without special programs; if they allow this at all.

Regardless of anything else you might be against, can you honestly say charizard and gyarados would be better off as non-dragons?

Erhm, I agree with Deokishisu on this one. Four types? That's not exactly fun material on the players. It also sort of defeats the purpose of weaknesses and such, plus it would be very hard to implement on the rom. It is not a minor change, it is very game-changing and has a high chance of not working out. :(

But overall, keep doing what you think is right. Cheers! :)

Yes, I absolutely can. Sure, based on appearance alone it makes sense, but seeing as how everyone and their mothers know Charizard and Gyarados' normal weakness, changing their type to Dragon/Flying will confuse players, even if just for a second. You can just add more Dragon moves and more Dragon types early on, but what would be the point? Adding in the other changes you're planning on adding (more than two types, 6 moves), you're looking at an extremely complicated game for players.

If you're looking to make the game difficult, here's some advice: Difficulty should be natural, yet still manageable in a Pokèmon game. Not arbitrary and frustrating for all the wrong reasons. I'm sorry, but the game you're thinking about making does not sound fun in the slightest.

Ok so I have a first draft finished and would like some testers, if someone can tell me how to upload and where.
I didn't get to do even half of what I wanted, so for those of you afraid of overcomplicated type matchups, you have been sparred. I'm no programmer or casual hacker so I changed what made sense to, and again, please consider, I changed some types based on appearance and some on what species name I gave them, fo instance Jynx is now a succubus, and is therefore ice/ghost type because succubi are demons and they make a room colder than cold.

So if somebody could please tell me how to upload this thing, I'd like some opinions after full play-through.

    First off:
You must make your rom hack into an ips file.

    Now you can either:
    A: upload it to mediafire
    B: upload it to dropbox
C: upload it to google drive

Then get the links to the files and there you are.
Unfortunately, I cannot test as I have alot of work and I cannot make any time for it. Good luck!
