She accepted a pokeball from the man with the box of them and twirled it in her hands, staring at it and being careful not to press the button way too soon. She wondered what it would be, remembered holding one just like this nine years ago in Professor Oak's laboratory. She recalled releasing it and being greeted with the Charmander that she had been promised, and the joy she'd felt, the name she'd given him. This time around she had no clue what pokemon she would end up with – only that it would be her partner in all of this, her main battle friend, the one she relied on the most to get her through the tough times, catch the ones she would deign to choose.

She waited as Rayne opened the panel, looking up and smiling wistfully. She walked forward into the diversions of the different routes, checking behind her to make sure Rayne was out of sight. She did not want to choose her route before knowing which pokemon she'd been given, but she didn't want to disobey the rules and release her pokemon while Rayne could still see her. Thankfully, the splits between the paths were large enough that she had plenty of room to move forward between them before finally checking behind her and realizing the cold metal building, along with Rayne and her men, had disappeared. Well enough, then.

She pressed and held down the button on the pokeball before giving it a light toss up into the air, a move she was terrified would end up with her pokemon sitting on her head, or landing behind her – in her past life, it had taken her months to master that perfect toss-and-release. To Ariana's relief, the move was executed perfectly – the beam of light started narrow, then spread right ahead of her, and she smiled as the ball fell back into her outstretched hand and the beam of light formed.

That smile faded, however, at the sight of the Charmander. Its orange body almost glowed from the green light of the jungle she was directly in front of, and it flooded her with memories – her old group, Blaze, Sparky, Silly, Casper, Dreamer, and Prince. She could hardly believe that here she was, once more looking at what was likely a level five Charmander with the starting moves Scratch and Growl. She'd memorized them, as well as every move her Charmander could learn before evolving into a Charmeleon, but as well the moves only a Charmeleon could learn at certain levels that a Charmander would learn something different, and of course the moves a Charizard could learn at certain levels that a Charmander and a Charmeleon would have different moves gifted. Of course, there were TMs and HMs that could be used to teach them all different moves at any level. The main one to worry about, she knew, was Wing Attack – it was the only flying move a Charizard could learn on its own, and it had to be learned at level 36, the level of evolution. She'd raised hers carefully and made the decision to evolve her previous Charmander late, and instead gift her Charizard with the HM Fly, along will keeping the moves Heat Wave, Flare Blitz, and Dragon Breath. It had been the perfect combination, and she'd almost never lost a battle with him.

She stared at her new Charmander, surfacing from the memories as it stared back at her. "How would you like to honor an old memory, buddy? Does the name Blaze sound alright to you?" She dearly hoped so – and the Charmander, re-christened Blaze, didn't seem to mind either. His tail swayed, the end wavering and shimmering, and she smiled softly. "Great." She looked up at the jungle, and then back down to the Charmander. "Pretty dark in there. Let's see what they gave us in this ol' backpack…" So said, she crouched down, and Blaze moved forward to join her after only a slight hesitation.

She opened the backpack's outer compartments and withdrew ten iodine tablets and four sticks. Then the main compartment was opened, and she pulled out ten cans of dried food, ten empty pokeballs – smiled at those, realizing this meant there would be wild pokemon to catch – one long rope, five potions, a sleeping back, and… a flashlight. With a smile she packed them all up but the flashlight, then hoisted the bag back onto her back and looked to Blaze. "Between your tail and my flashlight, we should be okay for Route Three, right Blaze?" The pokemon's tail wavered again, and she smiled and began her trek into the jungle.

gunnerbow7: Sorry, but I'm going to have to deny your application.

Pride: Good post! Here's your information for your next few posts.

Chapter One: Welcome to Island Dauoalogn
Post 2-5
Depending on how long you want to be in the route, you can have as many posts (with a maximum of 4) to train/capture Pokemon here before continuing on to the next location. But you may not want to use all your Pokeballs on this route because there are other Pokemon to be found in other locations in this route. Great battling posts can also result in your Pokemon leveling up faster, and the rarer a Pokemon is, the harder it will be to capture and defeat.

If you are not familiar with trying to capture a Pokemon, you have to end your post with the Pokeball shaking after the Pokemon is transferred inside. Depending on how your battle with said Pokemon goes, I will say whether your catch was successful or not and what level it will be, because some vary.

Happy traveling!

Route 3:
The only light in this forest comes from your flashlight and the slight breaks in the canopy above you. Your path seems to have been swallowed up by fallen logs, weeds, and moss invading the mucky path. It's very hard to find your path again, so you try to follow your gut feeling. The haunting sound of Pokemon calling sends the hairs on your neck standing up. This is a very dangerous area, and extremely unfamiliar.

The Pokemon you can find in this location are:

She normally would have called Blaze back into her ball and hooked it on her belt, but in this instance she needed all the light she could get from whatever source possible. The canopy above Ariana was thick and barely let in any sunlight; occasionally it lit up the mossy, weedy ground, but otherwise she was in a damp darkness only penetrated by the beam of her flashlight and the faint glow emanating from Blaze's tail. Continuously she stepped over logs, picking her way amongst the fallen trees carefully – and for good reason.

One such log hid a swarm – at least a dozen pokemon scattered from within a huge fallen tree, ones she could only identify from watching the screen at home. Spinarak. She could barely keep from squirming, but let out a small yelp when the largest one turned on her and reared back, forming a ball of string between its pincers. Quickly, she all but shouted, "Blaze, use Growl!"

Her pokemon, after a brief hesitation, let out a terrifying growl that halted the Spinarak's attack, enough for her to regain her composure and move forward. "Now Scratch, Blaze!" Her Charmander readied his claws and rushed forward, quickly clawing the scaly skin of the spider pokemon. It recoiled, then reared back and before she had a chance to prepare him, shot out a string of sticky web, making her groan as Blaze got caught up in it and halted, trying to rid himself of the clingy substance.

"Blaze, watch out!" But it was too late, and the Spinarak's next attack landed as it dug its pincers into the Charmander for a brief second, a quick Poison Sting that left Blaze reeling. "Quick, Scratch while it's up close!" The proximity of the two pokemon during his attack allowed for a critical hit – she watched as the Spinarak fell back on itself, legs squirming helplessly.

For a moment she felt the pokeballs in her bag – but decided against it. "Great job, Blaze." She stroked the head of her Charmander, searching him for any severe wounds that would require a Potion. "I hope you're not poisoned… they didn't give us any antidote." She checked the small wound from the spider pokemon's pincers, but it didn't appear to be infected – a sure sign that the pokemon was suffering from a plaguing poison aftereffect.

Standing up, she began to move onward, Blaze following alongside her. "Not bad for our first battle, buddy. I know soon enough you'll have moves that will knock those bug pokemon right off us before they can so much as buzz!" She had to laugh, and Blaze chimed in with the catch-phrase – his species' name, "Char-char!" – making her smile gratefully.

It was hard, finding her way along this path – sometimes she had to get off the beaten part of it to avoid a too-large tree, or go around a swampy portion. But eventually she managed to find her way back, thanking years of trail rides through forests and large open plains that made you rely on just your sense of direction.

She heard it, then – a small rumbling snarl to her left. Turning quickly, she saw what some others might mistake for a cute puppy – but she watched enough Pokemon 101, she knew what this one was – a Poochyena, snarling for encroaching on its territory. Before she could say much, Blaze had already turned and advanced forward, moving protectively in front of Ariana. Her heart warmed, as did her smile, before it turned fierce.

"Ready, Blaze?" Before her moves had been standard, almost amateurish. But now… now she was prepared. The dog pokemon launched forward, jaws agape for a Bite attack, and she retaliated. "Dodge it, Blaze, duck and roll!" Whether her pokemon knew how to do that or not was up to common sense – it wasn't a move, but a maneuver. Ari was pleased to see Blaze duck down and roll behind the Poochyena, who looked around in confusion when her Pokemon suddenly "disappeared". "Great job! Now come up behind it and use Scratch!" She knew Poochyena as a low-level pokemon only had an offensive starter move, so she'd use the same.

Blaze rushed up on the dog pokemon, using the mossy ground to muffle the sound of his footsteps until he was upon it – then, he reared back with his claws and scratched hard across the Poochyena's rump, causing it to yelp and whirl around. Quicker than she expected, it closed its jaws on Blaze's outstretched arm, tugging.

Her Charmander seemed to panic, tugging and pulling on the arm to try and get away. But Ariana was experienced in moves like these, thankfully, and quickly – "Don't panic, Blaze! Use Scratch on its face with your free arm!" And despite its panic, her pokemon recovered and readied the other arm, scratching hard across the Poochyena's nose, muzzle, and eyes. The dog pokemon yelped in pain and pulled back, and she smiled triumphantly. "Now, while it's distracted! Use Scratch and go for the face again!" With the Poochyena's eyes closed tearfully, Blaze was able to rush forward and use both sets of claws to rake down across the eyes, muzzle, and nose once more.

The Dark pokemon stumbled before falling to the ground, knocked out, and she smirked victoriously. Blaze turned toward her and ran up, and impulsively she bent down and hugged her pokemon, squeezing him gently and rubbing his back. "You did great. C'mon, let's see what else is out there."

The two of them turned and continued on, deeper into the jungle. It seemed the further they moved, the darker it got, as if the canopy up top were getting thicker – or perhaps, nightfall was arriving. She could not tell, since she could not see the sun from down below. But she had to wonder what creatures nighttime would bring, if it did arrive.

For about two hours they traveled in relative peace, Ariana and Blaze, but of course that would not last.

Suddenly from above a swooshing noise was heard, and then Ari heard an angry exclamation from Blaze. Turning, she saw him rubbing his head, and looked up – to see another Dark pokemon, this time a Murkrow, swooping in and out of the trees. She scowled – this would be difficult, fighting a flying pokemon with a non-flying pokemon. It meant she would have to rely on it making the first move in order to come into range, and she always hated letting her opponents make the first move.

The Murkrow swooped down again, and she called out, "Get ready, Blaze!" Her Charmander looked up, a fierce expression on his orange and cream face, and when the wild pokemon dived, she yelled, "Jump up and Scratch its wings! Try to stop it from flying!"

Blaze jumped, using both paws to grab onto the wing of the Murkrow and drag its claws down the wing. The Murkrow cawed out in pain, being drug down to the ground helplessly, and she called out, "Release it and use Scratch again!" Blaze let the Murkrow go, and before it could fly up again Blaze scratched deep down its slender neck, causing the bird pokemon to cry out in pain once more. But it took off, flying up above, and she called out once more, "Get ready!" so that Blaze would once more look up, carefully watching the bird pokemon to make sure it wouldn't launch any surprise attacks. The problem was, the Dark body of the Murkrow blended into the deep colors of the canopy above, and only its yellow beak and eyes were truly visible.

It dived down again, then suddenly flew up, batting its wings across Blaze's face. "Blaze, that's Astonish! Don't let it –" but it was too late. Her pokemon Flinched, wavering dizzily around as the Murkrow sped back up into the air. Now she was worried – would it happen again? She couldn't let it happen again!

"Quick, Blaze! Snap out of it!" And even as the Murkrow dived down again, Blaze recovered and looked upward. "Wait for it to get close, then Growl!" And when the bird pokemon was almost on top of her Charmander, Blaze let out a fearful growl that caused the Murkrow to hesitate, just long enough to… "Now Scratch its other wing, Blaze!" She'd noticed it favoring the wing he'd gotten previously while flying, so she was confident that if he could damage the other wing just as well, things would work out.

Blaze leaped up and captured the opposite wing between its paws, using his claws to drag down, down, down until the Murkrow lay on the ground. "Finish it up, Blaze – use Scratch on its neck!" And Blaze's claws raked down its neck, causing the Murkrow to reel away dazedly before finally, finally falling to the ground in a faint.

She grinned jubilantly and moved forward to hug Blaze again, wrapping her arms around his warm body. "You're awesome!" She straightened up, smiling at him and moving away from the bird pokemon. She looked behind her as Blaze caught up, then sighed in relief. "I have a feeling this partnership is going to be a great one, Blaze." She smiled at him fondly as they moved deeper into the jungle, prepared for the worst but hoping for the best.

"Great job, Dynamo! You showed that Geodude what for!" Dynamo swelled with pride, he held his hands and his side and beamed.
"Now, high-five!" Tray held out his hand to the Golett. Dynamo did not know what to make of this gesture; he held his hand to his face (he has no chin) and looked at Trays hands thoughtfully.
"You're supposed to slap my hand. Like this." Tray grabbed the Golett's other hand and made him hold it out. He then slapped down on Dynamo's hand producing a loud WHUMP.
"Now you try." Tray held out his hand. Dynamo hesitated before slapping Trays hand. And it hurt! Tray waved his hand wildly in the air from the pain in his hand, and Dynamo looked up at him apologetically.
"Ow, ow, ow.." Tray winced. " Oh, I'm.. fine. Just don't do it so hard next time, okay?" The Golett nodded. "Alright partner, let's continue forward. I wonder what other poor pokemon will try to get in our way."

=================================================

Tray's legs have had it. He had already lost track of how long he has been walking, and he decided that if he doesn't sit down his legs will give way from underneath him. Tray stopped to a halt and sat down on a stone outcropping to look into his bag. He had just realized that he did not check what was in the bag, and he berated himself for not checking earlier. Dynamo peeked into the bag curiously.
"Let's see.. Pokeballs, Potions, Water, Food, Iodide packets.. and a Sleeping bag? How long do these guys envision us staying out here?" Tray reached into the bag and pulled out one package of the food.
"I'm famished! I had to skip breakfast this morning, and now it's coming back to me." Tray began eating from one of the packages, savoring every bite. Dynamo stood by his side and scanned the area.
"Oh, I forgot. Are you hungry?" Tray offered the Golett some of the food, but the Pokemon pushed it away.
"I guess you don't need to eat. More for me!" Resumed eating his lunch. Suddenly, a purple blur flew past his vision.
"What the-" Tray began before looking down at his feet. The backpack was gone! Tray looked to his left to see a Gligar gliding away his Tray's bag in it's claws. The Gligar floated up over a tall boulder and rested on it's peak. It poked it's claws into the bag and began searching through it's contents.

Tray immediately got up on his feet. Dynamo stood up at a combat ready position.
"Tray, we need to get that bag back. Use pound on the pillar he's standing on." Dynamo nodded and approached the pillar. The Gligar was still rooting through Tray's equipment. It pulled out a bright red pokeball and looked at it with in curiosity. He quickly lost interest and tossed the ball aside, causing it to fall of the boulder and land at Tray's feet. Dynamo proceeded to pound the base of the Gligar's boulder with open palms.

The boulder Gligar was standing on begins to wobble and it looses balance. Gligar glanced down to see Dynamo pounding from it's perch. It uttered a hiss before diving down towards the Golett.
"Defense curl!" Golett's arms, legs and head sunk into it's body just before the Gligar latched on. Dynamo was hit with a poison sting attack, but thankfully it did not penetrate the Golett's defense.
"Pound!" Dynamo popped out of his defense curl, but the Gligar sensed his intentions and sprung off. Dynamo's pound attack barely skimmed the FlyScorpion's side as he glided away.

The bag was teetering extremely close to the edge of the boulder, then it dropped. Thankfully Tray dived for the bag and caught it before it fell about 10 feet from the ground. He picked himself up just as the gligar did a sharp turn and came for Golett once again, it's stinger glowing purple.
"Use Astonish!" Dynamo distorted his image in a ghostly has and prepared to attack the Gligar. But the wild pokemon dug it's claws into the ground. He dug his claws into the ground and flung sand into the Golett's eyes. Dynamo continued with his attack, but he missed and the Gligar used this as a chance to latch onto Dynamo's back. It brandished it's poison stinger and stung.

The Gligar stung Dynamo's back repeatedly, and the Golett was slowly weakening. He couldn't take many more poison stings, and this installed panic into Tray. He had to react quickly, or else Dynamo would faint. the Golett was stumbling backwards due to the Gligar's weight and his attack, and he was slowly backing towards a 15 foot drop into a rocky pit.
"Dynamo, jump backwards and use Defense curl!" Dynamo did his best jump, but in his weakened state it wasn't very high. But it was enough. Dynamo leaped into open air and used his defense curl, the Gligar still latched up. The Flyscorpion tried to get out of the way, but gravity already had them both in it's grip. The Gligar was trapped underneath Dynamo's weight as the both dropped into the stony pit.

The mountain resounded with a loud CRACK. Tray was fearing the worst, so he ran as quickly as he could down into the pit that the two pokemon had fell into. This took longer then Tray would have liked, because he had to be careful not to fall in himself. He got to the bottom to see Dynamo still curled up into a ball. He was at the center of a small crater, but the Gligar was nowhere to be sight. Dynamo was really beat up.
"Don't worry, I got you buddy." Tray pulled out the potion and Sprayed the potion on him. Dynamo suddenly sprung into life, and he looked over his surroundings with his glowing yellow eyes. The Golett was extremely round, so he had great trouble pulling himself out of the hole his drop formed. Tray grabbed Dynamo's hand and pulled him out of the crater.. to reveal a beat up Gligar. The drop had KOed the FlyScorpion, and he lay in the pit all scratched up.

Tray looked over the beat-up pokemon and pulled out a pokeball.
"Should I catch it?" He asked Dynamo, looking down at the Golett. "I know he's also a ground type.. but... maybe we can trade him with some of the other trainers? He might be useful later on." Dynamo nodded, and it was decided. Tray flung a pokeball at the fainted Gligar, and he suddenly remembered the first time he ever caught a pokemon..

Tray was ten, and along with his trusted Scraggy they were facing off against a Woobat. The Flying type put up a valiant fight, but they eventually subdued it with their combined strength and captured the Woobat.

Tray remembered the first victory he and his first pokemon Scraggy shared, and the experience brought tears to his eyes as he remembered what happened to his pokemon. Tray forced himself to look away to hide his sudden emotional reaction when the pokeball struck the wild Gligar. The ball started teetering.. back and forth.. deciding whether the Gligar was there's to keep..

Courtney Cox: Chpt 1, Pt 2

Oh! Why did she pick this? Courtney groaned behind her shirt, which she pulled over her nose and mouth to stop her from breathing in sand. She felt the gritty, loose dirt get in between her toes and under her shoes and everywhere. She wished she'd gone to the side with all of the sea shells, or maybe into that forest even if she had small navigational ability. She just walked forward. A few minutes ago, maybe five, maybe fifteen, she didn't know, but a few minutes ago the sand had cleared, giving her a path to... To somewhere. She followed that direction now, hoping she wasn't slowly going off course.

She had yet to find a good spot to release her pokemon, she was doubting whether she should or not. This sand was terrible and the force of it grazing over her skin burned. She didn't want to put that on her pokemon, but... Maybe. Maybe it was one that could help her out? True, she didn't know what was in there. She could possibly have a friend who can shield her from the wind. She dug in her pocket, taking out the pokeball she was given. She hoped, even prayed a little. Not only for her own relief, but for the fact that she didn't want to put a poor, small pokemon into the force of these winds.

Courtney tapped the button on the ball to enlarge it and then tapped it again to open it up, releasing the mystery inside. The wind was so sandy that even the light from the ball was clouded, and once it cleared she could barely see who was in front of her. The wind was loud, swooshing everywhere and any direction. It almost carried away the voice of the pokemon in front of her.

"Kiiiiip!" It cried out, obviously distressed by its tone. Courtney's eyes widened, she knew that cry. Her mind automatically flashed memories at her. She'd never had this pokemon herself, but one of her best friends did. He'd gotten his own for his birthday, it was the sweetest pokemon she ever knew. Her friend raised it up to be a Marshtomp before it was taken away. A Mudkip wasn't the best idea of a formidable pokemon that could stand up to strong winds. "Kiiiiip!" The pokemon cried out again.

"Mudkip!" Courtney launched herself forward, bending down in one, quick swoop to grab the pokemon up in her arms. The Mudkip was a girl. Her eyes were shut tight and her little legs flailed around. She didn't know who was grabbing her and it scared her. The Mudkip cried out again, wiggling around with all its might to get away from her. Courtney held it to her chest. "It's okay, girl! I won't hurt you Mudkip!" Her words didn't seem to get through, however. The Mudkip trying to struggle. She was so scared and Courtney felt sorry for letting her out. The wind, the sand, it was probably all so confusing. "I'm sorry, Mudkip," Courtney said before tapping her on the back with the pokeball and pulling her back into the ball. Courtney minimized and pocketed it once more. "I'm sorry..." She muttered again.

~+~

Courtney walked... She didn't know how long, actually. She just kept walking... Through the sand and the wind and the dirt. Oh, it felt like an eternity. She just trudged forward, keeping her head down only slightly against the wind. Sometimes she thought it got worse, sometimes she thought it got better. Lately, it seemed like it was all the same. She may have been walking for a couple hours, by herself, looking for some shelter for her Mudkip who was maybe calmed down by now. However, that idea seemed hopeless. Everything in this place just... Just looked the same. There was no break in texture or terrain, just sand and sand and sand. Even when the wind broke, the horizon was the same. All the dryness, it was making her thirsty, but if she drank anything?--assuming she had water--then it'd just get sandy too. She held off on it and kept walking.

She maybe went for another thirty minutes before anything changed. Courtney had to squint her eyes when she saw what seemed to be a monument before her. The wind and sand had thickened by now. The air was a dark orange and she could see nothing. Nothing except... A formation ahead of her. She stared in amazement as sand seemed to form into a huge ball in one, single point and then thin off into a stream before it melded back into the winds. What was it? She couldn't have guessed. Courtney started towards the awe-striking form. Once by it, she tried to see through the veil, but got nothing. The sand here was thick, like a wall almost. She wondered if she could even...

Courtney reached out a hand, timidly at first, but then with more conviction. Her hand passed through easily, her skin being buffered by rough sand. It even hurt a little. However, she didn't think about it when she felt on the other side.

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing. She felt no more sand, no rocks, just air... Her eyes widened and her curiosity grew. She then grinned, maybe... This was what she was looking for! In a reckless burst, she ran into the form of sand, being hit by a short slap of sand. It was well worth it. She was now free of dirt and uncomfortable grains. The winds didn't move here. Courtney grinned wide and then let out a loud cheer.

"Freedom!" She exclaimed, jumping in her own excitement. Ohyeah, look at her. Navigation expert. Courtney swung her hips, doing a little victory jig at the sand curtain. She was triumphant and she yelled and cheered and exclaimed all while being happy. She wiggled her hips and started a revolving twist. As she went one-eighty, though, she began to see a form behind it. It was huge, dark, intimidating. She stopped dead when she saw it and looked up, amazed at the height. It was a cave. A jut of rock somehow breaking over the surface of the sand. This was what was blocking its smooth progression. There was a large, ominous opening that lead to only blackness. Where it could go, there was no telling. It was likely a dead end.

Courtney shuddered at the imposing formation's stature. It was almost as if it were a monster. A large, hulking, hungry one that sat still to lure in unsuspecting prey. Like her. She shuddered again, feeling her heart beat. "Wow..." She whispered, lowering her gaze to the interior of the rock. She stepped forward, wanting to go even with the dangers of mystery. She didn't think about the what ifs or any of the risks. She was eager to see inside.

Entering, she only had a few feet of light before she was drowned in the darkness. Her steps had a slight echo as she progressed. Here, there was no sand. She could feel the ground slope downward as she walked, but she could not tell where she was going. She couldn't see her hand if she put it to her nose. She heard nothing but the landing of her feet on the rock floor as she descended. It was not long, however, before she reached the bottom of the slope. She took a few steps and then stopped. She couldn't see. Hardly at all. Courtney crouched down, slinging her bookbag around to her front. She felt around for the zippers, hearing jingles but not touching what she wanted. It took about half a minute, but she finally found one. She unzipped the largest pocket and started feeling inside. There were a couple items here, a lot that she didn't know what they were. She didn't recognize the shapes of some, and others could have been a lot of things. It wasn't until she got too the very bottom of the bag that she felt a long, slender item with what seemed to be a button and a wide top. She pressed on the button and noticing it not budging, she pushed it forward. Suddenly, her backpack was illuminated by white light. Courtney grinned big. A flashlight!

"Now let's have a look around," she said, pulling it out and waving the beam this way and that. The floor and walls of the cave were slate gray and little crystals coming out of the walls glowed and reflected when her light hit them. When she saw them, Courtney immediately wanted one, but she was smart enough to know she wasn't strong enough to pull it out. The air down here was cooler than outside and made her feel a lot safer. In fact, now with still air, she could feel all of the sand on her. She shuddered, not liking how uncomfortable it was or how it seemed to be everywhere on her. She tried to ignore it and the mystery of how long it'd take for her to get a shower.

At least it was quiet down here. Peaceful, safe, and... And... OH! Courtney's eyes went big. Mudkip! She reached into her sandy pocket and pulled out the pokeball once more. Two taps and once again the Mudkip was released. The light from the beam lit up the whole cave, it seemed, just for a moment and then cleared away. The darkeness hid the pokemon from Courtney's sight, this time. She put her flashlight on the blue pokemon and saw her with her eyes shut tight and her body tensed into the tightest ball she could make. The pokemon was shaking. Courtney frowned, feeling sorry for her. She was scared and it was her fault. The Mudkip's blue body was discolored with dust from orange sand that still clung onto her body.

"Hey! Don't be scared, it's alright! You're with me!" Courtney smiled in a reassuring manner. The Mudkip opened her eyes, squinting by the light and looked up at her idea of where Courtney's face would be. Almost as soon as she did, her eyes went wide and she seemed to freeze. Courtney's face went confused. "Hey, what's wrong?" She took a step towards the pokemon and immediately the Mudkip jumped up. She ran away just as fast. Courtney's eyes went wide. "Wait!" She ran after her pokemon who was now trying to escape her.

"Kiiiip!" Her pokemon yelled out, just like it did in the storm. Courtney followed Mudkip to her best ability, trying to keep her flashlight on her body. It was hard running in this cave. She didn't know where she or Mudkip was going and the both of them stumbled on rocks and cracks every so often. Courtney's sandals clicked out loud, making loud echoes that was probably scaring Mudkip even more. The chase took them both through twists and turns that Courtney wasn't even sure she could navigate out of. She only got glimpses of the cave's formations. She only saw, for less than a second, parts that had sand flowing slowly or areas where holes seemed to be cut into the sides of the cave.

"Mudkip! Stop, please!" She didn't. She kept running as fast as she could. Just as she had before, Mudkip took a hard right down into another part of the cave. Before Courtney went around too, she heard another yell from Mudkip. Alarm hitting her, she flashed her light around the floor, trying to find her. The light went over a flash of blue, when Courtney put it back in the spot, the color was gone and she heard another yell, still close. "Mudkip!?" Another yell of the pokemon's name came and Courtney pinpointed her pokemon exactly. The light fell on Mudkip. Like she did before, she looked scared, but this time her wasn't focus on Courtney. "Mu--" Courtney's words were cut off when a flash of silver knocked Mudkip out of the sight of her light. "What?" She moved it in the direction they had gone.

Courtney's eyes went wide with what she saw. It was not a necessarily threatening looking pokemon. It was small bodied and had silver, armored plating. The blue eyes protected on its head were narrowed and locked on Mudkip. It threw itself at the pokemon, but Mudkip hopped out of the way. By her face and her actions, it was clear that Mudkip didn't want to fight, but it looked like the Aron was going to tussle anyways. It jumped at Mudkip again, only to have her move out of the way. This didn't seem like a battle they could run away from.

"Mudkip! You have to fight back!" Mudkip looked at her and in the moment of distraction was hit by the Aron's tackle. Courtney frowned. "Come on, Mudkip! Use tackle!" Mudkip found her footing quickly and then retaliated, hitting the Aron back with her own tackle. Courtney smiled, liking the feeling of commanding again. Of battling again. She hadn't done this in a long time. She might be rusty, but... The feeling, it was still the same. "Alright! Tackle again!" Mudkip executed the attack once more, landing it successfully. With two hits on it, the Aron looked more angry than it had been before. It cried out and charged at Mudkip. She hopped out of the way, dodging again, but the Aron quickly switched direction, getting her right on her flank. The close proximity made the hit hard.

Mudkip was knocked away, but she managed to get back on her feet. She was still unwanting to battle, Courtney could tell on her face, but she had a concentration to her that could be seen in her eyes. Courtney smiled, she liked that. The Aron ran towards Mudkip again, bringing another tackle.

"Mudkip, growl!" Mudkip frowned and a rumble escaped her throat. The Aron's advance slowed as it hesitated for a moment before resuming its attack again. Mudkip jumped from the way once more, her growl still going as she moved slowly towards the Aron. Seeing her, it backed up, eyes no longer sure. Making sure her flashlight was still on them, Courtney smiled wider. They had the advantage, it looked like. Maybe that Aron would back off and leave now. That, however, was incorrect thinking. The Aron lunged forward, getting a direct hit on Mudkip. However, the attack wasn't as strong as it had been the first couple of times. She retaliated, tackling back from her own accord. The Aron stumbled from the blow, wincing from the damage done. When it found its footing, it narrowed its eyes and tensed its body. Its armor plating glowed for a second before dimming. Mudkip sent another tackle, this time the blow didn't affect Aron as much.

"Aer!" It noised, a look on its face that was the closest it could come to a smile. It lunged forward again, hitting Mudkip once more.

"Mudkip! Growl and then tackle it!" Mudkip frowned and the rumble escaped her throat again, she made the same slow advance, backing the Aron away from her. Just as it did before, the Aron jumped at her for a tackle, but Mudkip dodged to the left and hit it right on its side. The Aron stumbled and then fell, landing on its back. It noised its name, its legs wiggling in the air. It was not like that long, however, it moved its body until it rolled back onto its feet, ready to fight again.

"Aer!" Hmm. Courtney thought for a moment, remembering the Aron's last actions. By what it did, she thought that... That maybe the Aron had a problem being on its back. That could bring an advantage to them.

"Mudkip! Tackle it again, we've got to get it back on its rump!" Mudkip lunged forward, but the Aron saw it coming, dodging easily out of the way. Without anything to stop her, Mudkip hit the cave wall head first. She groaned and before she could move, the Aron made a blow right to her back. The Aron made the attack again and again, not giving Mudkip a chance to move anywhere. "Growl!" Following Courtney's command, Mudkip turned her face towards the Aron and let out another growl, but this time it wasn't phased, all it did was tackle her again. Courtney frowned, they had to get out of that spot. "Tackle Mudkip! Don't 'im bully you!" Mudkip poised herself to jump, but the Aron did too. At the same time the too pokemon lunged together, both getting head hits instead of body shots. The tackles were more like a conjoined headbutt. Mudkip's legs shook, Aron's hard head having an affect on her. The Aron itself stumbled backwards, dizzy itself. "Mudkip! Now's your chance!" Mudkip shook her head, trying to normalize herself. She stumbled a little when she attempted to advance, but her footwork became more steady as she went forward. She tackled the Aron, almost throwing her full body at it. The Aron stumbled back. "Again!" Mudkip made her tackle again, this time causing the Aron to fall back. The spike on its spine prevented it from doing a full roll. The Aron's legs wiggled again as it tried to get up. "We're almost done Mudkip, just keep tackling!" Mudkip went forward and tackled, jumped, and lunged over and over again, hitting the Aron as many times as she could.

The Aron, not able to do much more, pulled its legs into its body and shut its eyes tight. Once again its armor glowed for just a moment. This didn't seem to help much, Mudkip's attacks did not stop.

"Okay, Mudkip, that's good." Hearing Courtney, Mudkip stopped her next tackle mid-step and backed up. She was panting, Courtney could tell, and she had a red mark on her forehead. All of the attacks and being attacked... She was probably tired. She would have to say the same for the Aron. It lay still on the ground, breathing just as hard as Mudkip, if not harder. It lay still for a moment and then moved again, rolling itself back onto its feet. It was tired and it was weak, but somehow, undefeated. Whether it knew it lost or not, it wouldn't stop fighting. Courtney could see its legs shaking and the tired look in its eyes. The Aron's gaze still held determination. It wouldn't back down until it couldn't move. It was a fighter, she could tell and she admired it. A smirk came across Courtney's face. She liked this little guy, though she couldn't say it liked either of them. It didn't move, keeping its eyes on Mudkip and waiting for her to attack first. Courtney found it... Kind of adorable. She wished she could keep it, but she didn't have any pokeba-- Courtney's eyebrows shot up. Yes she did!

She remembered suddenly when she was rummaging around in her backpack. She'd felt little round balls near the bottom of the bag. Those had to be pokeballs. If they weren't, she'd suspect Ravyne gave them toys. Courtney, fast as she could, swung the backpack to her front and dug inside. Clumsily grabbing a ball, she lifted it out and enlarged it. She'd taken too long, though. The Aron cried out again, the wait had been to long for it. It ran towards Mudkip with the rest of its strength, going for another tackle. Worry immediately struck Courtney, she was no good at hitting moving targets and she didn't know how much more of this fighting her pokemon could take.

Courtney didn't have a moment to think, otherwise it'd take too long. She tossed the ball, trying to get the Aron as it came towards Mudkip. Of course, her aim was off. Instead of the Aron, her ball flew towards Mudkip. The small pokemon was quick, though. Form the corner of her eye she saw the spherical object coming towards her. With one swift movement of her body she swatted her tail at it, hitting the ball and redirecting it right towards the Aron. The ball hit the pokemon dead on and, as designed, it opened up with a resonating pop!, sending an almost blinding flash of white light at the Aron, engulfing it. Devouring the light, the ball landed on the ground with metal clinks. When it came to rest, it shook, having a wrestle with the pokmon within. For a moment, Courtney wondered why these balls were built to work in such a suspenseful way. Just like everyone who attempted to capture a new partner, she watched the balls movements intently, her wishes on the positive.

(Ugh. Post got steadily worse, sorry. :( And I hope the cave is okay.)

Chapter One
Post 1

Selena was an eighteen year old trainer hailing from the Sinnoh region. For thirteen years of her life she had known the beauty of living with Pokemon at her side. But Selena was never a trainer before The Acies began to take away everyone's Pokemon. Sandgem Town was one of the first places that the Acies hit, and the Professor disappeared, along with the three Pokemon that would have been given to the starting trainers. No one knew where they disappeared off to, but since then, the Professor has been thought dead and the Pokemon put within the Acies ranks either as practice Pokemon, or were trained and 'brainwashed' to believe the Acies way was the one true way.

But since then, Selena worked hard with her family, one of the unfortunate towns that wasn't graphed into one of the known Acies districts in Sinnoh. Because of this, her family and countless others in Sandgem Town were not confronted to join the Acies ranks. Selena believed if anyone was given the option to join the Acies, they would take it without a second thought. Why? Because even though the Acies are horrible and only live to rule as a single absolute monarchy, within the Acies districts, the associates are permitted to own Pokemon. Not only that, but they are permitted to battle other associates in arenas to win money, fame, and other Pokemon. Who wouldn't want that?

Selena didn't.

She missed her family's Pokemon for years, cried over their loss, especially over their loss of Cody, the family's pet Growlithe. She has spent months watching as revolutionaries were executed in the squares of the Acies districts from the television screen. She has wanted to fight back against the Acies since Cody had been taken from her family, but she has never had the chance to do it.

And here she was now, standing in the metal room with several other people around her age, and each of them was taking a Pokeball from a box. Selena fished inside and took hers, firmly holding it with both hands wrapped around the red and white sphere. And closely, she and the other people her age were escorted out into a large open field, sealing them in front of several different routes. Rayne said her good-byes and wished them good-luck.

Now, Selena had her doubts about Rayne and this event called Valde Bellum. But she had a Pokemon. She was a revolutionary. They were all revolutionaries. And they were going to fight. That made this good, didn't it?

Then this meant she needed to train whatever Pokemon she was given as a gift. Obeying Rayne's word, Selena would wait until she was far enough away. So, she chose Route 2, and, seeing that none of the other trainers were going down that path first, she began her journey.

Only after about a thirty minute walk did she turn back, and she didn't see any sign of Rayne or the field she was standing in prior to entering the route. So, she could let her Pokemon out now. Selena turned back to the dirt path, and fished into the pocket of her leather jacket, which she had stashed her Pokeball safely.

Holding it eye level, she looked at the red and white sphere as if a miracle had fallen from the sky, because it seemed to have. She was given an opportunity to rescue her family and her region from the grasps of the Acies… but at what cost she didn't know. She didn't want to find out right now – right now was for training, and training she would do. She would fight for what she believed in and for what all the revolutionaries were fighting for.

With a small toss into the air, the Pokeball opened in a brilliant white light. It transported to the ground before forming the shape of a Pokemon. When it cleared, a small plant-like turtle Pokemon was on the ground, body the colors of pale yellow, green, and brown. Two small leaves poked out on its head.

A Turtwig.

It was the Grass type starter of the Sinnoh region. Selena grinned. It may not have been the starter she would have chosen if she had gotten her Pokemon from the Professor when she turned ten, but she couldn't ask for a better Pokemon. She was overjoyed to be paired with a Sinnoh Pokemon, and especially a Sinnoh Pokemon she understood.

"Hey buddy," Selena bent down and pushed her hand out slowly in front of Turtwig, a calm gesture. The tiny leaf Pokemon looked at her hand before exchanging her a collected look. "I guess we're partners, right?" The Turtwig pushed a wide grin, and Selena's smile only grew wider.

Selena knew that now she and Turtwig would do many great things and write new history for Sinnoh. They would expel the Acies out of the region, usurp the ruler's throne, destroy the monarchy, and release all the Pokemon and people to live as they pleased.

It's about time history is rewritten.

Chapter One
Post 2

Selena and Turtwig had been walking for awhile; the sun was just beginning to rise above the trees, signaling it was close to midday. Even though she was eighteen and thus a full adult, Selena couldn't help but wonder if her parents knew what was going on, that she was enlisted under Rayne's training and that she was a revolutionary, or that she just disappeared. Walking down this dirt path in the wilderness made her think of all these scenarios; would her friends and family be put in jeopardy for what she is going to do?

Selena stopped walking and shook her head, trying to clear the disastrous thoughts spinning in her head. Turtwig had turned around to look concerned up at its new trainer.

"I'm fine, Turtwig, it's alright," Selena said, trying to dismiss the look of concern that crossed her partner's face. "Let's just prove to the world what we can do and rescue Sinnoh from that absolute monarchy." With that, a confident smile spread across her face and the horrid thoughts in her head that depicted death, execution, and misery slowly dissipated. Turtwig gave a nod, and the two continued farther on.

It wasn't long after the sun began to set from its climax in the sky that Selena and Turtwig came across their first challenger, who quickly fluttered down from the tree and landed on the dirt path in front of the Sinnoh trainer. It was a Pokemon she didn't recognize, or she did, but she didn't recognize it being from the Sinnoh region. Its body was marked with brown and tan, its beak and feet were pale pink, and what looked like a black mask was marked around its eyes.

"Pid!" it cooed, ruffling the wings at its side. Ah, that's right. It's a Pidgey, a Pokemon native to the Kanto region.

Turtwig turned to look at its trainer and Selena gave it a curt nod to begin. Finally, it turned back and with a quick lunge, began to charge. The Pidgey was taken off-guard as Turtwig's Tackle attack hit it dead on. The Kanto Pokemon fluttered backwards before catching itself in the air with a spread of its tiny, patterned wings. It was determined, and ready.

"Turt," Turtwig said, fueled with the fire of its first battle with its new trainer.

"Let's hold our ground, Turtwig," Selena begins, watching as her Pokemon, ready as ever, took on the Pidgey. Not only that, but a Pokemon that was stronger than Turtwig type wise. "Give it a Tackle!"

Turtwig charged forward as the Pidgey looped around in the area and dived in for a Tackle. As Turtwig charged the Pidgey head on, and just before they'd hit each other in a head butt, the Pidgey pulled up, rendering Turtwig's attack a miss. But that wasn't it – the Pidgey, just as it pulled up, it pulled back down in a corkscrew and flew straight at Turtwig's back, smashing into the tiny leaf Pokemon, sending him rolling through the dirt.

"Are you alright, Turtwig?" Selena called out. She watched for a minute as her Pokemon struggled to its feet and turned back to face the Pidgey who was hovering in the air in front of the grass type. It gave a curt nod. "Alright, let's go back in for a Tackle attack!"

Turtwig charged once more at the Pidgey, in which the Pidgey began its head charge attack again.

Selena grinned. She knew the Pokemon would do that.

Just as her Turtwig and the wild Pidgey would seemingly collide, the Pidgey pulled back up into the air. "Tackle, upwards, now!" she shouted, and the Turtwig jumped upwards, smacking straight into the Pidgey's stomach, knocking it backwards to the ground. And it didn't get up – knocked out cold.

"Yes! Good job, Turtwig!" Selena ran over and scooped her Pokemon up in her arms, running her hands over the roof of its head in congratulations. They exchanged a minute of laughing before they saw the Pidgey pull itself up and flutter into a nearby bush to regain its strength.

"You ready to travel some more, boy?" Selena asked, and Turtwig nodded its head while still nestled in her arms. "Great," she bent down and put the tiny leaf Pokemon on the ground. "Come on, let's head out."

And so, they began back down onto their path. And that was battle one out of many to regain Sinnoh back to its former glory.

The sky was dressed in orange, red, and yellow hues by the time Selena and Turtwig decided to stop and eat. They chose one of the rare fallen logs and sat down. Selena took the opportunity to look inside the bag. Flashlight, Pokeballs, Potions, Iodine tablets, a sleeping bag, food, and some more items; Selena took out a bag of food and her carton of fresh water, separating a portion of the meal for her trusty partner. They both ate in silence until the sun had set over the horizon, leaving them in a bright dark blue darkness.

Selena fished the flashlight out of her bag and flicked it on before the duo continued on their path. However, less than five minutes later in the darkness, a rustle in the bushes caught Selena's attention. She direction the light from the device in her hand to the bush just as a tiny Pokemon emerged. Two pink disk-like objects were sticking out from its head, ad light green 'hair' covered a majority of its face. Selena recognized it as a native Hoenn Pokemon called Ralts. But one of its evolutions was in the Sinnoh Dex. This Pokemon could be useful.

"Turtwig, I want to catch this Pokemon," Selena explained, and Turtwig nodded its understanding. "Start it off with a Tackle."

Turtwig turned from its spot on the dirt road to running at the Psychic Pokemon. It gave a tiny squeak of shock before Turtwig collided with it, knocking it from the bush onto the dirt path. It pushed itself to its feet, its little white body spotted with dirt and grass stains.

"Again!" Selena commanded, and the tiny Ralts turned to her with shock, as if it has never seen a person before. It didn't even seem to put up a fight as Turtwig collided into it once more.

At that move, Selena pulled out one of the empty Pokeballs which she had stashed in her pocket, to get to them easily, enlarged it and threw it forward at the Ralts. In a flash of semi-transparent pink light, the Ralts was engulfed into the Pokeball.

It shook for a few moments before stopping with a click.

"Yes!" Selena rushed forward to scoop the Pokeball into her hands. Turtwig ran to her legs and looked up at her with a beaming expression. "Good job, buddy," she said, patting the little Pokemon on the head with approval. "We got a new partner." She smiled brilliantly. "Come on, let's get going."

The duo, er – now a trio – continued on their way through the light darkness of the night. They would find an area for sleeping soon enough, and during that time, Selena would meet her new friend who'd help her regain Sinnoh, and the rest of the world, to its former glory.

I'm posting again, guys. Come on, get your posts in when you can. xD

Chapter One
Post 3

Only when Selena's legs began to sore did she finally stop, choosing a small patch of grass to set up camp. She pulled out the sleeping bag and laid it on the grass, placing the backpack near the top to use as a pillow if she needed it. When she was finally done, her small camp site set up with a circle of rocks around her, she sat down on top of the sleeping bag, calling Turtwig over to come rest by her.

"We did well today, buddy," she said, rubbing her hand along the roof of the Turtwig's head. "Do you think it's about time to meet our new friend?" The tiny leaf Pokemon gave a nod, a smile beaming on its face.

Selena returned the smile before taking the Ralt's Pokeball from her jacket pocket and enlarging it. Selena cast it a glance. "Okay, little buddy, it's time to meet you." She tossed it up lightly before it opened in a flash of bright white light. Slowly, the light disappeared, leaving in front of Selena a tiny Ralts, covered in dirt and grass stains. It gave a small shake of its head before it turned to look up at Selena and Turtwig.

"Ralts!" it gave a large squeal of surprise and it jumped back, mouth agape.

"Whoa, calm down," Selena said, raising her hands lightly, palms facing the scared Pokemon. "It's alright, we're not going to hurt you." Selena wanted to coax the Psychic
Pokemon. She knew that she took the Ralts from its family, if it had a family, and she had her Pokemon attack it. She knew it was in an unfamiliar area with unfamiliar scary creatures trying to get it to calm down.

The Ralt's lip quivered and it whined lightly.

"Turt, Turtwig, Turtwig," Selena's trusted grass Pokemon stepped forward and started to talk with the little Psychic Pokemon, trying to explain what had happened. The Ralts bit back with its own words.

"Listen Ralts," Selena began and the Psychic Pokemon turned to her, an upset expression across its face. "If you really don't want to be with us, we can walk back to where we battled and found you and release you. I don't mind. If that makes you happy, we can do that," The Ralts stared at Selena for a few moments, transfixed by her words. It looked at Turtwig for a minute before back at Selena. It was unsure.

"Okay, how about this: you spend the night with us, and in the morning, if you still want to leave, we'll bring you back and release you. Does that sound fair?" Selena asked, and the Ralts slowly nodded. "Great, then how about we all get some rest."

As Selena got comfortable in her sleeping bag, Turtwig nestled by her side, while the newly caught Ralts sat by the rock border. It wasn't ready to fall asleep just yet. It needed to make its decision. Did it want to go back and join its family again, or should it join the caring Selena?

By the time the sun rose the following morning, Selena began to stir, welcoming the morning nudge of Turtwig with a pad on his head. "Seems like another good day, doesn't it, buddy?" Selena pulled herself and sat up, but still slightly inside the sleeping bag. She looked around, but there was something missing. Where was Ralts?

Turtwig seemed to have the same thought, because it was looking around frantically for its new friend, for the new team member. Had Ralts left without Rayne and Turtwig to go back home? It wouldn't do that venture without them… would it?

"Oh… I guess he left to go back and join his family," Selena said, disappointed.

But a rustle of the bushes behind them left the duo turning to see what emerged. What did surprised both Selena and Turtwig. It was Ralts, and in its tiny arms, he was carrying an assortment of berries. With its Psychic abilities, it pulled away one of the rocks on the rock barrier before it waddled its way inside with the berries still held tightly in its arms.

"Ralts, you didn't leave," Selena said with a sigh of relief. It shook its head, and with a smile, dropped all the berries into Selena's lap.

"Ralts, Ralts," it said, pointing to the berries. A brilliant smile was on its face and it seemed that the berries were an apology for last night and that it was glad that it found so many to offer to Selena and Turtwig.

"Thank you, Ralts. This is very kind of you," Selena said, and Ralts nodded. It waddled over to Selena's backpack pillow and began to dig inside. Selena watched, confused, but then saw as the Pokemon retrieved a small plastic cup, holding it up in the air with success.

It waddled back over to Selena and held out the plastic cup for her to take, and as Selena did, the Ralts used its Confusion to lift several Oran Berries up from Selena's lap and hovered them over the cup. With its psychic abilities, it squeezed the berries and all the sweet juice spilled down into the cup, creating a sweet morning drink.

"Look at that!" Selena said, owed at the cute trick, before putting the blue-purple drink to her lips. After a few sips, Selena lowered it away and with wide eyes, spoke, "Oh man, I've never tasted anything so sweet! This is great Ralts, thank you."

The tiny Psychic Pokemon seemed to blush.

"Why don't we all share the berries? What do you think, Turtwig?" Selena watched as Turtwig nodded, and Selena laid one of each berry on the ground for it. And then turned to Ralts before laying one of each berry on the ground for it too. The tiny Pokemon looked up at her, not sure if Selena was serious or not.

"Go on, eat up Ralts," Selena said with a grin. "You deserve it." Ralts smiled and sat down before it took one of the berries and began to eat. The Ralts didn't think that Selena was so nice. Back at home when he did something bad, he wouldn't be permitted any berries for breakfast even if he scavenged them as an apology for his family.

After the trio had finished their breakfast of berries, with a few berries left over as extra if they needed them, Turtwig and Ralts helped Selena pack away the sleeping bag and put the stones back where they found them, Selena pushed the backpack over her shoulders and looked at the Pokemon.

"Alright Ralts, like I promised, would you like to stay with us, or would you like to be released to join your family?" Selena asked, looking down at the now washed Psychic Pokemon. Turtwig helped to get the dirt and grass stains off of its white body easily and now it looked ***** and span.

For a moment, there was no answer from Ralts. But then, it stepped forward and brought its arms upwards in a fighting stance. "Ralts, Ralts!" it proclaimed. A determined expression was crossed over its face.

"You want to stay with the team?" Selena asked, to be sure, a smile slowly creeping across her face.

Ralts nodded, and Turtwig jumped at its side in happiness.

"Great!" Selena said, bending down to wrap her arms around both of her Pokemon. "We'll do amazing." She exchanged a look with both of her Pokemon, and then said, "I guess for right now we can train for a few hours. I'm sure the route is going to become harder than it has been, so if we can get some training in, we can be ready for whatever happens!"

Both of her Pokemon nodded.

A few minutes later, they were ready. In front of Ralts was a pile of rocks, and Turtwig stood in front of a tree. "We won't take this too far where you guys have to strain yourselves," Selena explained. "But we'll work on your moves. Ralts, I want you to work on Confusion, and Turtwig, I want you to work on your Tackle." There was a pause. "Ralts, I want you to levitate the rocks with Confusion and throw them at that target," Selena pointed towards another tree, and on the tree she had drawn a bull's-eye on it in berry juice. "Turtwig, I want you to Tackle the tree, and continue to do it, from many different angles. Stop when you start getting dizzy or your head starts to hurt. Understand?" Both of her Pokemon nodded. "Good, now begin!"

Both of the Pokemon began to work. Ralts used its Confusion and began to levitate each rock one at a time and chucked them toward the tree bull's-eye target. Each barely made the outer ring, but Ralts wouldn't give up. He joined the team and he didn't want to let down his new family.

Turtwig had rushed forward and began slamming into the weak tree, again and again, each at a different side, and sometimes he hit it with his side or head. As Ralts pile of rocks slowly disappeared, and finally the last rock was thrown, Selena called a break. Her Pokemon hustled over to her, and in front of them she had prepared her own berry juice mixture in front of them as well as a small bowl of fresh water, and a portion of canned food from her backpack. They enjoyed the break and as quickly as they stopped, they got back to work.

This round Ralts's rocks had begun to hit inside the most outer circle of the bull's-eye, and Turtwig was hitting the tree hard enough that it had begun to shake.

"Alright, Ralts, try levitating several rocks at a time and throw them," Selena commanded, and Ralts nodded its understanding. Even though it was difficult, Ralts was about to get three rocks up at one time, but couldn't throw them all together. He had to throw each one separately.

Turtwig had continued to tackle the tree. When Selena called the next break, Turtwig had stopped but Ralts was still practicing. It wanted to see if it could levitate all three rocks and throw them at the same time.

"Ralts, are you okay? You sure you don't want a break?" Selena asked as she gave Turtwig another round of the berry drink. But Turtwig turned and looked to see what Ralts as up to. It was still trying to levitate and throw three rocks. Ralts shook its head and continued on. But it only got so far to throw two of the three rocks. It was still trying to get all three rocks shot at the same time.

"Ralts, come on, take a break," Selena said again. Ralts stopped briefly and turned to look at Selena. "It doesn't matter how many rocks you can throw at the same time. This is just practice – to strength your Confusion attack." Selena bent down and offered the berry drink. "Now come on, it's time for a break."

Ralts, after a minute, nodded its head and waddled over to join Turtwig. "Okay, you both did well. And it seems to be close to ten. I think we should leave this area now and continue on the path." So, after the trio had finished their berry drinks, they started back onto the road.

Ralts had looked back as they began their walk, looking at the forest that it knew its family was living in without him. Would they miss him? He didn't know, but what he did know was that he had a new family now. And he'd prove himself to protect them. He'd strengthen himself for them.

(Sorry for the wait, I've been a bit busy.)

Tray held the pokeball that held the pokemon he had just caught inside. He was once again reminded of the first time he had ever captured a pokemon, but suddenly Tray felt extremely protective of the ball. He quickly slipped the red and white orb into his pocket and looked down at Dynamo.
"We did it. We got our first teammate.. even though he may be temporary." Dynamo pumped his fist in celebration as Tray glanced around the area.
"You know, this place has been fun. But it's about time for a change of scenery, don't you think?" Tray said whimsically. Tray felt a smile creep to his lips for the first time since he had lost his pokemon. Getting a Golett was incredible, but catching his first pokemon in years.. that gave him hope for the future. It really solidified his efforts to free the world and make it whole again.

Tray thought about his old pokemon. His old team, the one that he had started his journey with. Most of all he thought of his old Scrafty, Clementine. She was his very first partner, and she was gone along with the rest of his team. Instead of causing Tray grief, this caused him to steel his resolve; he was given a chance to find out what had happened to his old team. Maybe when they stole his pokemon they began using them for their own gain? Tray did not know, but he was going to find out.

Dynamo wasn't paying much attention to Tray as the golett looked about their surroundings. He climbed up a stone pillar in order to get a better view of the area, and pointed towards something in excitement. This roused Tray out of his thoughts; he looked over to where the Golett was pointing and could see that there was a large ocean of sand. However, much to Tray's surprise the sand looked calm, without sandstorms to be seen. Tray looked up into the sky to see the sun. It looked as if Tray could get to the sandy area before nightfall.
"I don't think that's a desert, Dynamo. Maybe it's a beach? Let's check it out!"
Tray hopped from on top of the rocky outcropping and slid down a small slope of stones before making his way towards the sandy area. Dynamo followed, rolling down the hill rather then sliding, and walked by Tray's side, the sense of wonder affecting both of them as they headed towards the ocean of sand.

(They are heading towards route 7, in case you are wondering. I wasn't sure how to initiate a change of route any other way, so I hope that it's alright. I don't think our heroes have much to gain from the mountainous area anymore.)

As you walk towards the sandy ocean, suddenly, you see a large gap between you and the other side – too far across for you to jump and too far and steep for you to travel down. It seems someone doesn't want you to leave your path. But to your left, you see another path – from the route you already took, it looks like there's something beyond the mountains. You choose to go that way.

Extension of Route 5:
The winding route leads down to a much calmer environment, nothing like the rocky terrain you just had to deal with. However, as you continue to walk forward, you suddenly see someone flying on top of a bird Pokemon, and he gets off in your route though he hasn't seen you. You don't recognize him, but you recognize his red and black uniform. He's from the Acies! How did they find this place; Rayne had said it was safe from them.

Do you choose to confront the trainer and fight? Or try to find a way around him?

If you decide to battle him, end your post with him seeing you. I will post again to explain his Pokemon.

Tray and Dynamo's journey to the new area was cut short by a large gap. It was slightly disappointing to not be able to get to the new area, but there was another path to explore.
"Maybe we'll find our way there if we travel the path." Tray said to his Golett.
"Let's go!"

==================

Tray was thankful that this path was more forgiving then the last area they were in. It was a lot less rocky, and Tray found that he wasn't getting tired as easily. It was a nice route, and Tray was curious about what kinds of pokemon they were going to find here.
In the distance Tray could see a bird-like pokemon apear.
"Look Dynamo, a-" Tray froze as he saw what was on the bird pokemon.

The person riding it wore red and black, the uniform for Acies members.
"But... how? They said this area was safe!" Tray uttered in fear. Dynamo looked up at Tray with worry as well; the Golett didn't understand what the bird pokemon and it's rider meant, but judging by his trainer's reaction it was bad, really bad.

"Dynamo, return." Tray quickly whipped out his pokeball and returned his Golett to his ball. However, Tray put the ball in a pocket where he could quickly whip it out; Tray was already too close to the Acies member to get away undetected, but maybe he could avoid the authorities seeing his pokeballs. If the Acies member found them however, it was going to be battle time.

Tray was spotted by the Acies member.

Route 5 Acies Trainer:
The Acies trainer seems to be only just a grunt, but to you and your Pokemon he may be quite powerful. You may need both of your Pokemon to defeat him, but that is up to you. The fight can last one to two posts, and the reward when you defeat him, your Pokemon will gain much experience.

Courtney Cox: Chpt 1, Pt 3

The ball shook and then stop, a low, calm chime bouncing off the walls of the cave.

"Yes!" Courtney exclaimed, voice echoing and booming in the cave. She jumped up and down, excited by her new catch. She felt younger, like she was thirteen again. She didn't catch many Pokemon before the arrival of the Acies (she always regretted her lax exploration of the Pokemon world) but the thrill was not unfamiliar, the joy not hindered. She got to her ball as fast as possible and picked it up, marveling at its new weight in her palm. She could almost feel the life of the Aron resonating from the container.

"Mud..." Eh? Oh! Courtney whirled around, remembering all of a sudden her other Pokemon. Her Mudkip lay on its side, tired from the fight. Courtney made a noise of worry and went down to the ground and at her Mudkip's side. She grabbed up her injured friend and pulled her into her lap, concern strewn on her face.

"Crap you look tired. I'm sorry, girl." Mudkip made another noise, Courtney hoped that was a forgiving one. She grabbed her bag, using her flashlight to help her navigate. She rummaged through her bag, manipulating the flashlight to help her see. She dug around until she grabbed out a single potion. "Okay, this might sting a little." Courtney made sprays to each injury and cut on Mudkip's body. The little blue Pokemon tensed or jumped with each new spray, feeling the stings, and then relaxed with relief. When she was finished, Mudkip looked like she was about to go to sleep, which she might have been. The little Pokemon yawned curled up, closing her eyes. Courtney smiled, finding this little display cute, but as she watched, she realized how tired she was herself. Walking through the sands, then chasing Mudkip, then the whole battle. It may not have seemed like that much, but it all wore her out (especially the walking through the whirling sands part). Courtney scooted herself around a few degrees until her back was to the wall. She leaned back against it, having to shift a little to avoid the rocky face from jabbing her with its very unsmooth features. It was not ideal in the least, but she was sure she didn't have anything that could help her make this better like a blanket or a sleeping bag. She closed her eyes, feeling the fatigue at a greater dose behind her eyelids. The uncomfortable sleeping arrangements made it harder, but she was sleeping in no time.

~+~

Courtney awoke slowly, lids rising, now refreshed. She lifted her head, which had been sagging the entire time, and immediately felt pain. She groaned and put her hand to her neck, rubbing the sore muscle. Ugh! Why did she sleep like that!? Ugh! Why blame herself? She didn't have sleeping supplies. She shifted and noticed a weight was missing from her. M-Mudkip!? Panic jumping at her, she grabbed at the ground until she found her flashlight. She shined it around the cave, seeing empty space wherever her light hit.

"Mudki--" She was cut short when she heard a rustling near her. Automatically she shined her flashlight in the direction, eyes wide with fright. It was pointed at her bookbag, the top of it unzipped and opened wide. Shoot! She'd forgotten to zip up her bag before she'd went to sleep, and in a cave probably full of more Pokemon than Aron, that would be a problem, especially if Mudkip was turning up missing. She watched it move again, the metal of the zipper clinging around. What was that!? Was it dangerous!? Would it attack her!? And what was it taking from her bag? Her heart was beating fast in her chest and an uncomfortable, prickly sensation was on her skin. She could hear her things moving around on the inside, probably being tampered with. She moved the flashlight closer to her bag, the hand shaking a bit. Throwing caution to the wind, she hit her bag with the flashlight, pulling back quickly. There was no movement for the seconds she waited, making her more anxious. She hit it again and withdrawed, then waited. After a few moments a growl began to emit from the yellow-colored bag. Courtney froze, heart beating faster. She could already imagine some rabid Pokemon coming out and attacking her, possibly ripping her to shreds. She was in a cave by herself and no one else knew it. This was the perfect horror move or missing child situation. She was so dead...

The growling became louder, more threatening. She was shaking now, what was that? The bag moved again and a figure began to rise. It was a threatening Pokemon indeed. Small bodied but scary sounding. Narrowed, black eyes, orange cheeks, and-- W-Wait. Mudkip?

"Mudkip!" The little Pokemon stopped growling and her eyes popped open with recognition. She hopped out of the bag and was back in Courtney's lap, her forefeet on her stomach. She looked up at Courtney happily, a kind of happy that made Courtney smile. "Hey, Mudkip."

"Mudkip!" Hm. Hearing Mudkip repeat her name to her got Coutrney thinking. Why was she calling her Mudkip Mudkip? Because she didn't have the time to name her before, she reasoned. If she hadn't been so rushed around she probably could have thought of something. She looked at her Pokemon for a moment, thinking for something suiting. It didn't seem to be that hard, she already had an idea coming to her.

"Penelope." Her Mudkip tilted her head. "Your name will be Penelope now, okay?"

"Mudkip!" Courtney smiles and then patted Penelope on her head. Nicknaming her reminded her of the Aron she still possessed. She reached into the pit of her lap where she'd let it fall and took the ball into her hand. Once again, holding it was almost like a dream. Since it was already enlarged she needed only to tap the ball once to release a red beam of light, and then, her Aron.

The little steel Pokemon stood at a ready, as if he had put their last battle on pause. He looked at Courtney and Penelope with narrowed eyes, ready and waiting for them to do something to him. Penelope called out the the Aron and he tilted his head, looking at her as if she were absolutely crazy. Courtney wasn't sure what she said, but it was probably overwhelmingly nice.

"Come on over here, Kimper, we're friends now!" The Aron's eyes looked at Courtney with the same confusion he did for Penn. "That's your name now! Kimper! Now come over here already!" She waved her hand to it invitingly and Penn said something else in Pokespeak. Kimper grunted and came over to them unwantingly, it seemed. It glared at them with its small blue eyes, saying nothing. "Hungry?" Kimper's eyes perked a bit and he looked as if he were unsure of his answer. Courtney already knew though. "Yeah, I'm hungry too," she agreed, nodding. "Let's eat!"

Courtney pulled out supplies of Pokefood and regular food from her bag, preparing for the chowdown session.

When they finished, it was time to go. But... Go where? She was lost in this cave, she didn't even remember how they got there. She looked down at Kimper, who was standing idly. Maybe...

"Hey, Kimper. You know how to get out of here, right?" The Pokemon looked up at her and seemed to shrug. "Can you show us the way out?" He made the same movement again and then walked forward, no word from him. Courtney and Penelope exchanged a glance, but followed.

They walked in unmemorable parts of the cave, Courtney making sure her light stayed on Kimper the entire time. She had no idea where they were going. She and Penn had tried to ask him, but had gotten not a single answer. Just a grunt at the most. Kimper seemed to know where he was going, though. Trekking through several paths, a lot of which Courtney didn't even see. They walked for a long while it seemed, in silence and monotony. Occasionally Courtney would start up in a song and Penelope might have joined, but after a while they both got tired of singing.

"Shrew!" Courtney stopped. What? She heard something speak, but it was faint, almost not there. "Shrew!" Okay, she definitely heard it. The call was high, as if a baby were speaking them. They were squeaks really, and they were cute.

"Kimper! Wait up!" She moved her flashlight off of him and to her right, pointing them at a wall with a cluster of rocks around. She saw nothing, but heard the squeak of a call again. Something was back there. Courtney crouched down, edging closer. "Hello?" The squeak came again and then something moved. It peeked its head from behind the rock. Its eye was black and beady and its skin was a sandy yellow. It made another noise and hid its head again. "Hey, little guy. What's wrong? We're not going to do anything to ya!"

"Aron!" Courntey felt a hit to her leg. It was Kimper, his face partially illuminated by the flashlight. He had a look that seemed to say, "Come on! Let's go already!" Courtney shook her head.

"This little guy's lost or something!" Kimper headbutted her again, a frown on his eyes. "Stop it! Don't be so heartless." Courtney turned her attention back to the little hiding Pokemon. It seemed to be like a little Sandshrew? She could quite tell, but the call made her think so. "Come on, little guy." She slowly reached her hand toward it. "We'll help you out." It was probably really young. Maybe she could catch it, take care of it and everything.

Halfway to the Sandshrew, though, Courtney heard another call, a meaner, much more angry one. She above her head and saw another Sandshrew. It was larger than the other, much larger. And it's black eyes were stuck on Courtney, teeth showing and bared, and ragesome. "Sandshrew!" It barked at her, vocals deeper than the other. Courtney shrieked and fell back, the Sandshrew crawling from off the cave wall and down to the ground in front of her.

"Sorry, sorry!" She apologized, crawling back from the Sandshrew.

"Sanshrew!" The Pokemon ignored her apologies and sprang forward, landing in Courtney's lap and dealing immediate blows to her with its claws. Courtney cried out, feeling the slicing of her skin. Over and over again the hits came, making tears come from her. When she felt she had enough, the Pokemon's presence was suddenly gone. She opened her eyes, feeling pain pound around her wounds and blood wear on her.

"Aer!" Courtney looked, seeing her Aron standing before the Sandshrew, eyes narrowed. The Sandshrew lifted itself to its feet, glaring back just as hard. It cried out and came at Kimper, slashing again. As she watched, Penelope came to Courtney's side, getting into her lap and checking her body, frowning at the cuts on her. The sound of Kimper's fighting echoed around them. The cries of both him and the Sandshrew came out as they attacked or knocked each other around. With every tackle, the Sandshrew would scratch. It seemed at first, that Kimper had the upper hand, but as he continued to use his move, the Sandshrew would learn to counter it. At first it would dodge, over and over again, getting itself behind Kimper and scratching his back. Soon, however, it changed tactics. Instead of dodging, it would catch him, holding him firm where he couldn't move and then dealing blows.

Kimper cried out, unable to get away. "Kimper!" Courtney yelled, feeling bad for getting him into this mess. He tried to warn her. He was saved, however, when Penn jumped into action.

"Mud!" Penelope dug her feet into the ground, kicking mud and rocks at the Sandshrew, knocking it away from Kimper. The Sandshrew stumbled back and before it could regain its footing it was hit again, this time by a Penn's tackle. She hit it again and again, not letting up, knowing exactly what it could do. Making his armor shine, Kimper also joined the battle, hitting the Sandshrew whenever it got the advantage over Penelope. In a few short moments, the Pokemon was defeated, however, not fainted. With the strength it had left it took itself to the small rocks, standing in front in guard.

Penelope and Kimper stood before it, growling and ready to attack again.

"Wait, guys!" The two Pokemon stopped their aggression, looking back at Courtney. "It's okay, guys, you won. Let's just go alright?" She spoke with a tremble in her voice, tears on her eyes from the pain she was inflicted. She no longer wanted to deal with the Sandshrew that seemed to be protecting the smaller one for a reason. She just wanted to leave and get out of the cave. Her Pokemon looked back at their attacker, unsure. "No, come on. Let's go." To prove her resolve, she picked up her items again and began to walk, trying to hold back tears. Her resolve convinced them to go and they followed behind her, not saying a thing. Kimper took his lead once more, taking a path that would lead them out of the cave.

(Okay, sorry for the wait. I've had so many problems with this post, and it was deleted so many times that I didn't even want to write it anymore. I pulled through it, though. :( Next post will be better and will come faster.)

As you get out of the cave, you are relieved to see that in front of you is a large plain of grass with the sun bright and heavy overhead. You decide to stop for a short amount of time to allow your Pokemon, and yourself, to rest before you decide to continue on. But not long later, you see a shape running towards you. He is dressed in a red and black uniform, and his hair is spiked blue. You immediately recognize him - an Acies trainer!

And he sees you: you can either give over your Pokemon to him, or (as he withdrawls a Pokeball) you can battle him.

Kriss McKenna
Chapter 1 - Part 1

You could say that Kris was a bit dumbstruck but everything that had happened that day. First the Acies associate had come knocking on her door. She'd been incredibly surprised, given the amount of effort she put into not losing her temper around the Acies. Then again, maybe she'd beaten up the son of an Acies member once too often. They just had to stop stalking smack about her father. But, in the end, it hard proven to be nothing like that. It had been someone else entirely. Someone to be trusted.

The rest had all gone by in a blur. Taken from her home, there wasn't even time to alert her mother. She'd be worried sick. But there was no way in heaven or hell that Kris would miss the opportunity to go against the Acies. No way indeed. And then they'd found themselves in a dark building, her and quite a few others she didn't know. And there was the second shock of the day.

Rayne, the woman was supposed to be dead, executed. Another shock finding out that wasn't so. There's this hope, this tiny, painful and hated spark of hope for her father. If one wasn't dead, could the other not be also? But there was a huge difference between Rayne and her dad. Rayne was a brilliant trainer, her dad just a marine geologist. Who'd need a marine geologist? That's why she hated the spark, it hurt so much.

She'd talked about a "Valde Bellum" though Kris had no idea what it was. The way Rayne spoke Kris got the idea that they were in a whole different region. Could that be true? Somewhere away from the Acies? And the Pokémon! They were allowed to take a Pokémon! Although Kris had never had any interest in being a trainer before the take-over, she saw the appeal now. A creature by your side could mean a lot against an Acies grunt, who always carried Pokémon to do their dirty work. She'd almost hadn't believed it when she grabbed the smooth, white and red ball. She hadn't seen one in years.

Outside she'd been immediately drawn to the beach the crashing of the waves had pulled at her heart. However Kris didn't like taking direction, not even from herself. Her stubborn nature had made her pick the most different route there was, a route that looked dark and menacing and that's where she went, with the faint hope that the Pokémon she'd picked would have a light-source for her as the trees left little of the sun through. And there were also the contents of the backpack that was to be investigated. And thinking, there was some thinking to be done too, but that would take second-place.

As soon as she'd gotten far enough into the route that the light of the opening had faded she sat down onto a log. First things first, a light source. If she couldn't find one than she could always see if she could find her way back and pick another route. She opened the backpack first, honestly she was kind of afraid of what she would find in the Pokéball (what if it's useless? What if it doesn't like me? What if it's a fish?!).

First thing she found was the flashlight. "Perfect" she whispered, clicking it on and pointing the beam around her. Most she saw was moss-covered trees everywhere and much on the ground. The mud didn't bother her, she had thick boots anyway. The next things she found were the sticks, which left her a bit puzzled. What would you need sticks for? Maybe to build a fire? Not that she knew how to do that with sticks, and the environment would probably be too moist anyway.

There was a gallon of water in a thick thermos bottle that would definitely come in handy. And some iodine tablets which Kris knew were for water purification. With a forest like this she guessed there'd have to be a stream somewhere. If she ran out of water she could refill it, though it wouldn't be a bad idea to ration the water a little. The water also solved the mystery of why the bag was so damned heavy!

Next her hands fount 9- no 10- cans of food. Which was wonderful, she wouldn't have to scavenge food just yet. It didn't look like there'd me much edible here. Maybe Bananas? Bananas grew in jungles didn't they? Biology wasn't her best subject. She also found 10 Pokéballs, which would be more than enough to get her a nice team. Weren't teams always consistent of 6 Pokémon anyway? Maybe not in Valde Bellum?

There was a rope, which would definitely come in handy some time. There was nothing like a good, strong rope couldn't fix. And potions for the Pokémon as well as the sleeping bag that was tied on the top of the bag. No spare batteries for the flashlight though, that worried Kris a little. She'd have to be careful with how much she used the light. She crossed her fingers again for a Pokémon that might produce light.

Right, no sense in delaying it any longer. Kris gingerly pushed the button on her Pokémon. In a bright flash before her stood a…… thing.

"What on earth are you?!" Kris couldn't stop from bursting out. It was orange, with shiny black eyes, a huge head and sharp teeth. The thing just bit the air a few times and stared at her."How do you stand? Your head is bigger than your body!"

Snap, snap from the Pokémon.

"Okay then, weirdo," Kris said with a sigh. I guess she got an odd one, maybe it was like those red fish that turn into those HUGE dragons? Man she wished she'd done better in Pokémon class. "Well orange thing, hop along while I think of a name for you."

Chapter 1-2 - The Jungle

"Can you even walk?" Kris wondered, still sitting on the same tree trunk staring at the same orange thing. "Your legs are so tiny and stubby."

Snap snap came the thing.

"We'll just have to find out, come on thing." Kris clicked the flashlight on and faced the direction of the path. A small voice in her head said that it would be so much smarted to walk back and take another route. It was too bad that the bigger voice in her head told the smaller to shut the hell up and go away. Maneuvering through the jungle was no easy task, the vegetation was thick and Kris began to wish there'd been a machete in the pack as well. Every few steps she had to lift a mossy branch out of her path or step over the roots of some tree, all the while trying not to slip on the muddy floor. To the thing's credit its legs did carry it and it never slipped once. The orange Pokémon just calmly walked behind Kris, snapping his jaws every once in a while and clambering over the roots with its small legs.

"Are you a boy or a girl?" Kris asked which got her a stare back. "Okay, let's take it simple, are you a boy?" Stare. "Are you a girl?" Stare. Then slowly it snapped its jaws. "Does that mean a yes?" Stare and snap. "You're a girl?" Stare and snap. "Okay then, I'll interpret that as a yes. Come on girly."

They must have sounded like elephants crashing through the brush, or at least Kris. It almost seemed like every step was either the disgusting slush of her boot sinking into the mud or a snap of a twig and whenever she had to move some form of vegetation out of her way it seemed like every leaf from the plant wanted to be heard. "This way I'm never going to meet a Pokémon," Kris muttered. And she wanted to. For one, she wanted to try out her thing's battling skills and for the other she wanted a new addition to the team. Preferably with a brain. "I don't even know what your moves are." Stare. Snap. "You have to know bite, you just have to. If you don't it's a crime against nature." Stare. Snap.

She stepped over a particularly large tree trunk that had fallen onto the path. She had to admit that the jungle by flashlight was extremely creepy. The beam never lit up more than a small path right in front of her and it seemed to create more shadows than illuminate them. To make matters worse she could hear an ominous clicking or yipping sound from the bushes every once in a while too. Kris found herself nervously casting the beam sideways often, only to find that she'd just seen a shadow move. "I can't keep calling you a thing forever," she said over her shoulder. "You need a name." She kept walking, thinking of whatever it was she could name her weird orange thing. What names suited a brainless orange snapper? She froze. There was something missing. A certain. Snap.

She whirled around, aiming her light everywhere and not seeing the little orange Pokémon. "Thing?!" she called out nervously. She didn't like being in this jungle all by herself, even a strange Pokémon was at least a companion and could keep her safe. "Thing where are you?!" She tried to think back to the last time she'd heard the snap. She couldn't remember, it must have been a while ago. "Thing!" She cried out again. "Orange Pokémon! Snapper!" She slowly walked back, swaying the light back and forth from the path to the underbrush on the sides. She didn't wanted to have to go looking in the dense jungle, she'd definitely lose her path and her way. "Come on girly," she tried calling in a sweet tone. "Come on sweetie, sweet thing, where are you?"

Oh man she didn't want to be the trainer to lose her precious Pokémon. Oh man oh man. This was not good. Not good at all.

She'd walked for 10 minutes and was very close to giving up and trying to make it to the end of the route. It was shameful but she was definitely not up for looking through the actual dense jungle. That was out of the question. Kris would never admit she was afraid, but she was. She stepped over the tree trunk and swept the flashlight around, still nothing.

Snap.

She whirled around, aiming the flashlight at the trunk. There she was, the little snapper, and Kris couldn't help but let out a nervous laugh. The creature had been trying to get up the tree trunk, which was altogether too big and high for her. She was standing on her hind legs, the front legs desperately clawing at the trunk for purchase and the jaws snapping periodically. Kris had to assume the thing had been doing this for at least 30 minutes. "Oh thing," Kris said with a huge sigh of relief. "I'm sorry girly, come on." She grabbed the sides of the Pokémon and carried her over the trunk, then set her down again. As she began to walk the creature fell in step behind her, as if nothing had happened and Kris hadn't left her alone for half an hour.

"What do I do with you?" Kris wondered. Stare. Snap. She kept on walking, there were a few more fallen trees to step over and she didn't forget to help her little buddy over it as well. She had to admit the thing was cute, in a strange way. It didn't seem to do much but it did have that little bit of adorkability to it. "Come on now thing, don't get behind," she called out when the Pokémon started to slow down. "Are you tired? I guess your legs are quite a bit shorter than mine." She sighed and picked the orange creature up. She wasn't really up for walking through the jungle alone so even a Pokémon in her arms was better than no Pokémon at all. "You're surprisingly light, you are," she cooed to the Pokémon she now carried. "Probably from the lack of brains in your head."

There seemed to be quite a lot more logs in her way than at the start of the path, it became harder and harder to find her muddy walkway amongst the vegetation too. That could turn out to be a problem. "Please let the path hold up," Kris muttered. "Whatever is watching over, God, Arceus, little Martians, just please let the path hold up." Apparently neither god, Arceus nor the Martians liked her. The path stopped, swallowed up by the bushes and tree-roots. Kris cursed, not quite sure what to do now. She sat down on one of the logs and set the orange creature on the ground. She started noticing sounds around her too. A crow's call to one side, a yip or two from the other. Every time she flashed her light there was nothing.

"I don't know what to do now Thing," Kris admitted. "It's not smart to wander through the jungle, we could easily get lost that way. Very easily. Even if we did manage to walk straight on who knows where we'd end up? And going all the way back to the start of the route isn't an option either, we've been walking for hours!" Stare. Snap. "I think the only hope we might have is a Pokémon that knows the way, but I haven't seen anything for all the hours we've been walking. We've been hearing plenty, but they don't come close." The Pokémon started nibbling on the leg of her pants. "Are you hungry girly?" She asked. "Wait… That's it!" Kris quickly slid her backpack from her shoulders and rummaged in search of the canned food. "Aha!" she examined her find, a can of peas and carrots. Her stomach rumbled at the thought of it.

Kris ripped the top off, sending a quick thank-you that it had a tab to putt it with, they hadn't given her a can opener to go with it. It didn't really smell, which worried Kris, she hoped that the Pokémon would be able to take notice of it anyway. Or maybe she'd been watched from the moment she sat down. This thought made her nervously aim her beam around her again and this time she caught the shine of eyes before they disappeared again. It seemed she had been watched. She bended the top a bit and used it to scoop some of the vegetables to the ground for her orange thing to eat. The Pokémon sniffed it for a second before greedily taking it all in one bite, including a ***** of mud from the ground. "I know it's probably not what you usually it but it's the best we have," Kris said and dropped some more on the ground. "Now for the master plan," she muttered and also places a few small pieces of carrots on the trunk a few feet next to her. Then she satisfied her own stomach by eating a big scoop herself. She'd've preferred it warm but this would just had to do.

Kris kept her flashlight trained on the spot where she'd left the food, not all that patiently waiting. Then she figured it might be just that, maybe whatever Pokémon that was lurking around didn't want to be seen? Or didn't like the light? She scooched over to the very far side of the log and picked her orange creature up and placed her on the log. "I know there's food down there but I don't want you to get it." Stare. "I do want you to not move until there's a Pokémon that is eating it. Do you understand so far?" Stare. Snap. Kris was just going to assume she did. "When there's a Pokémon eating the food I want you to bite it, and bite it hard. Yes?" Stare. Snap. Okay then.

Kris turned her attention back to the can of food which was rapidly depleting. "Here, have some," she dropped about half the content in front of her creature. The rest she ate herself. She wasn't in the least full herself but she hoped that her thing had filled up better. She remained motionless, resisting the very strong urge to aim the beam at the pile of food. She was content to hear that there wasn't even a snap from the thing next to her though. It had listened!

Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Kris was beginning to think that nothing was going to come and that they'd be best off randomly moving through the jungle and hoping they'd find something there. It would be better than this sitting still and hoping, that was for sure. Then she heard a SNAP, but it was a different SNAP than before. This was a SNAP that had something between its teeth. She swiveled around, aiming the flashlight at her orange creature having some sort of purple millipede between her teeth. Said millipede was flailing and looked very, very angry. It kept trying to get the orange one with its fangs but she had latched onto the millipede's tail and stepped around the avoid the fangs, pulling the angry millipede with her.

"Yes! Good job girl!" Kris cheered. "Now try to throw it against a tree or something!" That was how you were supposed to do a Pokémon battle right? By giving orders? Her thing obeyed her wonderfully though and span around, letting go of the tail and swinging the bug away by momentum. "Now go and bite it again, we don't want to lose it!" The orange Pokémon let herself fall from the tree trunk bum first and waggled after the bug. A few seconds later she came running from the bush as the millipede came after it, rolled up in a ball. It hit her and Thing went flying into the bushes with the millipede rolling in pursuit.

"No! Thing! Come back!" Thing flew out of the bushes back into Kris' view, presumably having been hit by the rolling millipede again. "Okay, okay, Thing, we can do this! Just-just wait until it rolls towards you and step aside. Okay?" No more snaps now, Thing was full of concentration. Kris was full of anxious doubt. The millipede came rolling from the bushes towards Thing and Kris held her breath. Then, just as she thought Thing wouldn't make it the Pokémon jumped aside swiftly, causing the millipede to roll straight into a tree. Kris could swear she heard Thing emit a sort of breathy chuckle at that. The millipede just looked pissed, even more than it had before.

It turned around again and rolled towards Thing once more. Thing did the same trick, jumping aside in the nick of time. The millipede wasn't dumb, however, it turned around and hit Thing while she was doing her strange chuckle again, tossing her into the bushes once more. Kris was getting quite agitated by being so limited. She couldn't see into the bushes at all and her sight was limited to the small clearing right in front of her where she could point her light. "Thing, get back here!" she called, and Thing came hobbling back. She looked tired, she was huffing and coughing a little in that breathy manner of hers. "Hey Thing, are there any more moves you can do?" Kris asked. "If there are, show me?"

The Millipede was already hot in pursuit from behind Thing, whose focus was still with Kris. "Behind you!" Kris shouted, entirely certain that Thing was going to get hurt again. Thing had other plans though, she used her hind legs to kick up mud from the ground. The mud landed right on the millipede's face, all over its eyes. It rolled around, blind, not having any hands to scrape the mud off with. "Alright Thing!" Kris laughed with relief. "Now bite it!" Thing hobbled over to the purple Pokémon who was rolling in circles now. She jumped and bit one of her opponent's tails that was sticking out of the ball it had rolled itself into. The millipede just kept rolling through and Thing was being rolled with her, thumping against the ground every few seconds. "Hang on Thing!" Kris called, figuring the bite had to hurt the bug at least a little. "Can you stop it?" Kris asked. "Can you dig your feet into the ground to stop its rolling?"

Thing tried, digging in its stubby feet whenever they were in reach of the ground but it just didn't work. "Okay, let go of it, let's try something different." Kris instructed. And then she knew what she could try. She hoped dearly that the gods of battling didn't see her now, though. Thing let go of the rolling bug and got propelled into the bushes once more by momentum. At the same time Kris herself ran towards the rolling bug, aimed, and gave it a good solid kick. The bug clicked angrily while it flew through the air, smacked against a tree and fell onto the ground, motionless.

"I guess football practice did pay off," Kris said with a laugh, throwing a Pokéball at the bug. "You might be a mean one but I need you anyway. Thing? Thing where are you?!" Thing came hobbling from the bushes, full of cuts and in obvious pain. "Come here girly," Chris cooed and retrieved a potion from her bag. She sprayed her Pokémon's wounds. "Well, I guess I was wrong, I can definitely keep calling you Thing forever."
