Yellow hack: Pokemon Yellow - 151

After progressing so far, there are details to point out with both patches (playable yellow and 151) applied. Tested on MyOldBoy.

I got the 8 badges to enter the league and read all the texts so far. The only text that got bugged is about the spaceship at the museum. Other 151 texts appeared normally.

I didn't tested the game corner, but the itens given there appear as intended.

I explored almost the entire map. Wild pokemon system working normally.

I did some 151 in-game trades, and it worked well.

In general, the game is running fine here. It seems like it's the only way to play 151 as a girl.

I was able to beat the league and enter the cerulean cave, but I haven't explored it further yet.

I still need to test the game corner, do remaining trades and evolve pokemons (by level up, stones or trades) to complete the pokedex and then try to get the diploma.

Game corner working normally, including the 'super lucky mode' tip I read somewhere on net. I got pokemons (buying coins) and an item, required for pokedex completion.

I read about the safari game mechanics and tips. It helped me to catch exclusive pokemons that are difficult to catch there.

I left one trade behind. Trades worked without crashes.





No crashes when getting the diploma. It worked normally without the text being bugged.

Hello, everyone! I am new to PokéCommunity and thought that I would start off by sharing a rom-hack that I've created...

This rom-hack is intended for emulator players, like me, who simply want to play through the original Pokémon Yellow, complete their Pokédex 100%, and have access to the surfing beach-house. The problems with playing on emulators these days is that there are no promotional Pokémon events to go to, there is no connectivity to Pokémon Stadium, and trading across games, while possible, is not only tricky to do, but also feels totally unnatural. Many players have solved the problem by using cheat-codes to temporarily activate the ability to capture the "missing Pokémon", but to many players it still feels unnatural and, well, like cheating.

The solutions I have implemented here are supposed to feel as natural as possible, where players should not feel as if they've cheated or that they are even playing a hack - think of this project as more of a patch. Players will have the ability to encounter all missing Pokemon in the most natural ways possible, where each encounter, trade, and shop edit has been carefully planned, with strong consideration of:

1) Where and how Pokémon have appeared in all Red, Blue, and Green games
2) Where and how specific Pokémon have appeared in the anime series (which Pokémon Yellow strives for)
3) Game story
4) Game balancing
5) Playability

The only other major liberty I have taken with this patch is to replace any real-world references (locations and animals) with appropriate Pokémon world counterparts. In doing so, I've once again carefully considered main-line Pokémon game stories and have ret-conned the relevant new information into those replacements: The chef on the S.S. Anne has replaced the salmon on his menu, and Lt.Surge is no longer known as the Lightning American - but rest assured, Pokémon fans will be more than happy with the replacements. - I have not re-written any other lines that did not need them! the only other line that has changed, is that the game programmer's computer which tells you not to mess with the code, now reveals the patch version number. Also, I have altered one tile in the Cinnabar Lab so that players cannot become soft-locked as in the original release, and have slightly edited a few tiles in Fuchsia City for easier movement through town - nothing drastic.

Please enjoy the ultimate vanilla Pokémon Yellow experience, I promise you will find more enjoyment in trying to complete the game without reading the Spoiler Section in the included Pokémon Yellow 151 Guide!

UPDATE: 7/28/2021 - Patch has been updated to v3.0
Pikachu now learns surf through the use of the HM, as opposed to previous versions where it knew surf from the start of the game. I'm very happy to introduce this change.

BONUS TIP: Forum user liz428 has been testing a combination of "Yellow 151" with "Playable Yellow" and has reported good compatibility. So, if you would like to play Pokémon Yellow 151 as the female protagonist from the Pokémon Adventure manga, check this patch out, too (I would recommend patching with Playable Yellow first, and then Yellow 151).

When it comes to rom hacks, I pretty much exclusively play vanilla+all Pokemon hacks, with only a few exceptions, like Unbound. This one is almost perfect for me. The only thing I'd change is making the trade evolutions into level evolutions or add the linking cord, though I'm not sure the latter is possible in gen 1.
Honestly, I despise the trade mechanic, and have since I played the original games on my GBC back in the day. Mostly because of the badge requirements and naming restrictions.

Still this is the closest I've found to my ideal rom hack for Yellow version. Thank you, and good work!

the only pikachu you can get is the starter one.
for raichu, keep walking around inside the power plant until it shows up - the encounter is either uncommon or rare

These can be found as same way as vanilla:

Poliwag: fishing anywhere with good rod
Shellder: fishing at cycling road with super rod
Psyduck: surfing in the pond on the route north of vermilion city
