I just got Pokemon Y. And before I step into the online battle scene, should I look out for Pokemon like Politoad or any other overused gen 5 meta Pokemon?

If you plan on playing on the in-game ladder, this site has full usage statistics for the most commonly used Pokemon and their sets. Politoed is listed at #98 most used for singles but #18 for doubles. Make sure to change the game from ORAS to XY, because XY competes on a separate ladder from ORAS.
