I got the idea to make this thread after misreading the "Rom-game suggestions" thread as "Post-game suggestions".

Assume you've just finished a hack you're working on, the main 8 gyms, and then the League. Would you make a side-story taking place on a set of islands or a new region? Or maybe smaller side-quests in the first region? Or would you just have something like a Battle Tower/Frontier or mini-games, or nothing at all. What would you do?

I haven't really even thought of a postgame for my project, now that you mention it, but it's still early yet. I'm still engaged in the clerical work of moving from Emerald to FR. But personally, I think I'd most like to play a set of small side stories/sidequests to tie up loose ends.

As I'm creating an objective-based hack which limits free roam a lot, I doubt I'd make a postgame, but maybe I'd permanently restrict some places and allow the player to actually explore the city with a plethora of sidequests, and some new areas, perhaps?

That would depend on how much ideas and motivation I happen to have. If there's a lot, then I might go ahead and start working on new locations for things like these specifically. If not, then I'd simply stick to all current places and utilize them instead.

I feel like games should end when the 'story' part is complete. Whether that means completing the league and finishing or completing the league, cooking a chicken and flying around the world.

I don't see why people add things past the end of their main story, though :( IMO side quests and minigames should be encountered during the game not just piled up at the end.

I'm not sure what 'post-game' exactly means. Does it mean past the Pokémon League? If so, then I think a post-league quest is a vital part of a game. If it means post that post-league quest then I really don't care for it. If the story is done, it's done.
