some have claimed that the song is about abortion, but given the context of the rest of the album it's kind of hard to tell. the album is about a man losing his bitter and abusive wife to cancer, and i read it as the couple seeing sickness as an unwanted child they're unable to nurture (or treat). perhaps she was pregnant but forced to abort given her medical condition, i think that's probably more likely, but i prefer the idea of them sticking to the cancer theme. still those lyrics stick out to me, among many other, more emotional lines in the album.
Pink Moon by Nick Drake; rather minimal and open for interpretation, but it was one of my favorite songs growing up. he wrote it before he committed suicide, and the song introduced me to the overwhelming notion that we cannot escape death, and it's what unites us all.
