Well,I understand that some of us like to welcome new users but I think some users do it to enhance their post count.

I am suggesting making that section have no effect on your post count.

I...actually agree with this. I come across a lot of people that make it a point to post in every new thread they see in there despite the lack of real discussion that can come up in those threads. If you ask me post count should only rise in forums where a significant discussion can come about.

This isn't the first time this has been suggested, though...and I can't remember why it kept getting shot down...

    *bad memory* >_<

Exactly!I once did it to increase my post count,I'm bein' honest but I feel good about welcoming players. It'd be great if everyone did it but some people do it to try to increase their post count which I find dumb.

I feel indifferent about it. People who do it to welcome new members do deserve a counted post, since they are doing it out of goodwill and then, don't deserve a post just to increase their post count.

May I ask for other reasons than selfish reasons?

They should welcome members without getting a reward.

I'm assuming that a chunk of your 50 posts were about "welcoming" new members?

I'd rather they got their "dose of posts" in the new users section instead of going to the Art Gallery or Game Development or ROM Hacking forums and make comments on art or games or hacks that consist of "good job, keep it up" or "can't wait to play the beta" in order to boost their post count.

That's true but,I think that it shouldn't count still in the New users section because it's better that the users get their dose in the Art Gallery or Game Development or ROM Hacking forums because they'll get a warning 'cause you're supposed to only give constructive criticism.

I know lots of users welcome people just for post count, that is correct, but if you took it away then nobody would be welcoming anyone anymore, and new users may not feel as welcomed. And anyway, I don't really see much of a point to take post count away from any section, even the trivia, because if you post in the trivia part, it is still a post on these forums, so anyone that post in trivia a lot do not have their true post counts.

Also, I don't really see why you would care.

That's not really right, getting one post count is not a 'reward', it's simply contributing a post to these forums.

It is contributing a post to these forums but It's true it's not right..
And i'm pretty sure people'd still welcome others to the forum.

This is actually a good backing up point.
People CAN'T stop welcoming people to the forums, if we do we wouldn't seem polite and then they'd leave [yes well agreed that 70% of the time people who do introduce themselves, just take Shiny Gold and go..]

Having a post count in NU/W is more for the new members than it is for the people who make welcome posts. That forum is where 95% of the people start off. They will start a thread, get no post count for that and ask questions about it. Also it's there to "start them off" I guess you'd say. Their post count has to start somewhere, what better place to than NU/W.
Yeah, for many members (who go around welcoming members) it's just a post count booster, but the Mods have that forum under control, so they keep an eye out on spam, copy/paste, etc.

    Ok,Thanks for clearing it up,Andrea-Chan!

    I feel better knowing that.

Even if people do spam up that area just to raise their post count.. those types of posts normally end up being rushy, spam posts. So they're deleted as soon as their caught anyway, and the posters are warned. Not many people get away with posting there just to raise post count. ~

A lot of people new and old do post there with the best of intentions, and I'd bet that the newbies like that they're intro posts help start them off, and counts for something. I mean, I'm biased and all, but yeah.

edit: whoops, sorta beat. oh well. xD

You aren't gonna go out at me like I'm selfish, because I did not say nothing about getting rewarded for welcoming people. I was only looking at both parties, if you comprehended my post correctly.

I know that there is no way to see what is really in people's hearts, but if it was in your heart to post out of goodwill, then yeah, you do deserve a post.

To tell the truth, I don't see why welcomes count as posts anyways? Telling a new member hello and making them feel welcome is just as important as replying to any discussion. Just because a welcome can be a few sentences long doesn't make it unimportant.

Plus, why are you people worried about post count anyways, competing with who got the most posts and stuff. It's not going to get you nowhere. It's not currency or will promote you to a staff member. It's action that does the trick. It's a darn shame that you are treated by the number of posts you got or when you joined.

About 95 percent of my posts was actually part of a conversation, because I never thought of doing something that should had came for the heart for a cheap post.

I've actually thought about this before, but not for too long. Here's why:

Good, or even decent welcomes actually take a fair amount of time to think out and type up. I've seen many members frequent NU/W over the years that I've been active there, and the good welcomers always have unique and substantial posts. If they go through all that trouble of welcoming new members, giving them good advice, and doing it in a unique way each and every time... I say the least we can do is give them a +1 to their overall post count.

You're right, there are a few people out there that take advantage of the board to increase their post count, but rest assured Drew and I take care of that every day. Since I started modding I don't think there's been a day that I haven't deleted some post for either being insubstantial or being a copy and paste reply. Trust me, they don't go unnoticed, and they don't go unpunished.

There are a good few that like to get away on technicalities - changing up their welcomes just enough to get by... but they're few and far between. Besides, if it's obvious they're just welcoming for the sake of spam, we'll take care of it eventually.

Just thought I'd throw my two cents out there.

Oh, and a good chunk of my posts are from NU/W. That's not necessarily a bad thing, Ochigi. :3
