I think that its more for balance if they had both Godly Sp.D and Defense they would be unstoppable or rather it would take a log time to stop them. So in short I think they are fine right where they are.

Umm I can see why they don't have as good Sp.D (for Gearuvagen's reasons) but really bulky steel types like Metagross and Aggron should have good defence all round, as they are known to be strong and resilient, and the game does not represent this.

I agree with Doonerz completly! As I said before, it really depends on the Pokemon itself.
But it seems to me that in Game-freak, the general rule is: if you're Steel, you'll have very high defense, but very low sp. defense (there are some exeptions...).

Even though most steel types like steelix have low sp defence they have high defence wich is Great!

ok new topic: If there are any steel types that you think should not be steel types, wich ones would they be and why should they not be steel typed.

nah I get why Mawile is Steel though it should be part Dark too. Well If I had to choose one it'd be Lucairo as I do not get why he is steel.He hould be part psychic if you ask me.

I don't think that theres a metallic shine in that, i'm not saying he's an abomination but he just shouldn't be a Steel type, as for his magnetic abillities, those just suggest that he's part electric (although i would say no to that too) after all, the metallic shine could just be highly polished rock.
Don't get me wrong, he's a good pokemon probopass, but he's not a Steel type.

P.S. Here's another reason for his magnetic abillities, he's based on a compass, wich makes the north needle point to the north with magnets, where true north is on a compass, theres a magnet pulling the north needle...well..north.
to many NORTHS in that speech,LOL.

and the reason Probopass is steel is because he is a magnet and magnet are made of metal (only some kinds of metal) Electricity as referred to in Pokemon has nothing to do with Magnetism. Though they do have the move magnet rise I do not agree with the concept of electricity creating its own magnetic field powerful enough to counter Earths. and create lift.

Personally, I think Shuckle would have made more of a worthy Steel Type than Mawile. Also, I think that Steel/Ground(Steelix) is good because they cover most of each others weaknesses.

What Steel type pokemon would you replace with a Non-steel type pokemon.

My reasons are because Jirachi resembles nothing of a steel type, and Beedrill has some kind of steel drills <33

Your right Dooonerz, theres probably only 2 reasons why they didn't do that:
1: Steel wasn't in the games back then.
2: they needed space for the obvious bug type and the poison type, why is he poison? bees imit an kind of poison from their stings so that it really hurts/itches.
