Excuse the, erm... obscure premise of this thread, and also excuse the fact that I posted it in this section. I don't think this topic fits anywhere else.
Basically, I think it might help a lot of game developers - and perhaps even ROM hackers - if we established how people liked certain features and aspects of the interface presented in numerous Pokemon games over the years.
In summary: each generation - and to an extent, each main Pokemon game - features different 'conventions' for certain aspects of the gameplay and interface. Some examples
These are all really minor things, but I think they affect gameplay enough to matter. As an example, the ridiculously narrow font used in Ruby and Sapphire made reading game text quite a pain; this did reduce the enjoyment I got from playing these games.
So, here's a few questions I'd like ANYONE who's played Pokemon games to answer:
While I value innovation a great deal, I think it'd be great to measure which kind of style of game making people prefer. This will really help us, the indie game devs, make awesome enjoyable games for everyone!
If there are other little things you liked about certain games in the main series (like the unique starting sequence in R/S/E for example), feel free to share.

- All games until Gen IV used BIG CAPITALS to denote items, places, attacks and events.
- FR/LG are the only games so far to color dialog text based on the gender of the person speaking.
- Gen IV was the first generation to introduce 'VS Sequences'
- Gen IV saw an increase in game resolution

So, here's a few questions I'd like ANYONE who's played Pokemon games to answer:
- Which dialog system (i.e, FR/LG vs everything else) do you prefer?
- Do you prefer playing in DS resolution?
- Which game had the must attractive, usable interfaces and menus?
- Which game had the best fonts?
- Do you ever actually set the text speed to anything other than 'Fast'?
- What is your favorite art style? Examples include the 'flat' overworlds and tiles of R/S/E, the pseudo 3D of FR/LG, full on 3D in Gen IV....
- Which game featured the best music? By this I don't just mean tunes, but style. As an example, R/S/E made extensive use of synthesized brass, while Gen IV has a lot more piano/percussion.
