This thread isn't about the whole giving regular members more PM space like what's currently being discussed in other threads..

This is basically um.. like a suggestion to tell the sender of a private message that their message has gone through or not.
I think I've been in a situation where I've sent a few PMs to someone, and then they said they've never got it because either:
    A) They have restrictions on it
    B) I am on their ignore list and somehow that affects it
    or
    C) They're lying.. @_@

So yeah.. I guess this thread could probably be disregarded if we actually have that and they were just lying but.. I was wondering if we had that in place.. you know the whole "Your PM could not be delivered because the recipient doesn't have enough space/ privacy settings" or whatever.. cause it'd be really helpful.

Also.. I dunno if it'd stress the server or whatever (isn't that always the case?) but I was wondering if PC had read-receipts, or if it was possible to implement sometime.. cause it'd be really handy/ nifty/ useful!

:3 Just a suggestion!! <3 Thanks for listening!

We used to have read receipts, but they arbitrarily disabled them long ago because someone moaned about privacy. :/

If they are able to make it so that the receiver can reject receipts, then I see no other possible complaints.

Rejecting receipts would defeat the purpose of it @_@ But I dunno.. it'd be helpful if someone is waiting for a mod to answer something.. mods can be busy doing other things so at least they'd know that their question was read and being dealt with.

Well, regardless...privacy is a sticky issue, and there may be instances where you don't want them to know if you read it. Like if you had a real troll on your ignore list...and if they know if you're reading what they're saying, they'll keep up. :/

But didn't you say that if someone is on your ignore list, essentially their PMs don't go through to you?

._. So.. there'd be no problem there..

The only issue with that, that I can see, is the automated reply would essetially allow the person you have on your ignore list, to know that they're on it. Would seem a bit mean, it's kind of like how when you deny adds on messengers like MSN, the program doesn't let the request sender know it was denied.

    Eh. I guess it's also true that if you've ignored said person, you really wouldn't care how they felt about it. xD;

    Then again..
A way to dodge that, would be to have the automated message not give the actual reason as to why it couldn't be delivered. Maybe it would just state a default list of what might be wrong. Don't misread me, though, I really like the idea. When I lost my moderator status when I went on a DLoA, my PM box was beyond full, and I couldn't receive PMs. x__x I remember thinking at the time, that I wish the people trying to send them could know that.

I guess.. but I never knew that it automatically did that wit the PM box, you know? Cause at one point I tried to send someone a PM after I was put on ignore, and it angered me because they didn't even have the courtesy to reply with a "Hope that someday we can make amends" or even like wanting to send a "I know we've had disputes but I wish you well anyways" and I didn't even know if my message was actually delivered until it was pointed out to me later that nothing was ever recieved.

Also, for example, I don't even know if Mods/ Admins are supposed to block members.. or if I was even blocked or why I would've been.. but I noticed that Morkula didn't have any public VMs. So I figured.. okay they're disabled for people that aren't friends, right? So I just shot over a "Hey how have you been I haven't spoken to you in like 4 years" sorta PM and I have absolutely no idea if he even got it because I don't even know if I was randomly put on an ignore list.. or if he just set his privacy settings to friends only or.. what, you know?

@_@ Like maybe the message doesn't have to say particularly what the problem is with sending it.. but it'd be nice to know if it was actually sent at all.. instead of thinking you're being completely ignored in a situation which then makes the situation worse.

Like honestly it's fine if it doesn't say that you're on ignore because of privacy issues.. but it'd be nice to know if your message was delivered at all. Emails do that easily (delivery failure) whether it has to do with connection, recipient, bandwidth, etc.. and doesn't necessarily specify.. so why not have it for PMs? I know the delivery failure had saved me a few times when I send a message to someone only to realize I forgot to put in the .com or wrote yahho instead of yahoo (and etc) :/

    That's just my two cents.

It's more like I read your PM and it was like 4AM so I didn't have an opportunity to reply, and honestly forgot about it (since PC was down earlier tonight). >>

That said, I've never had any issues with people replying to PMs, and staff shouldn't be putting people on ignore lists anyway, so I don't really see any need for a feature like this.

Haha I didn't mean staff.. I mean with anyone ._. I'm not blaming you for not replying like as fast as the wind- but I just used that example as NOT KNOWING if the PM was even sent at all.
I've sent PMs to someone who apparently had put me on ignore but I had no idea that they did. After countless attempts at THINKING I was talking to them and trying to reconcile/ wishing them well/ etc, and THINKING they were blatantly ignoring me and being spiteful or bitter, it was in fact just the system that wasn't delivering the messages.
:/ Well.. you obviously would understand that it leads to misconceptions, anger, frustration, and a lot of mistrust. (Mistrust as in.. did they actually get the message? Are they lying about it not being delivered?)
Heck I don't think I NEED a response, and heck perhaps the whole read reciept thing IS a privacy issue, so let's not talk about that. But knowing if your message was actually sent or not should make a difference, right?

I mean like.. if I sent a PM, and it SHOWS UP IN MY 'SENT PMS' BOX then shouldn't that mean it ACTUALLY sent? Then what the heck is up with this discrepancy about it not even being received by the recipient?
Isn't this actually an issue? Why are you guys blowing it off when it's something that isn't actually supposed to happen?

o_o It's like freaking.. paying a bill and then it giving you a receipt but then later the company informs you that they never received payment.. and you're sitting here thinking WTF but I HAVE a receipt for this to prove that it sent! But they're telling the honest truth that they never got it.

@_@ Do you understand my frustration? (I tried to use analogies) So it's nothing against you in particular, Morkula, and I'm sorry that it sounded like that, but I meant like.. sending it all in general, you know? Cause if it never sent to these other people.. how could I be sure it's delivering all the time when the Sent-PM box is like.. lying to me @_@!
    THE SITE IT LYING!!! [/dramaqueen]

Haha.. either way I hope my point is being understood and not like "Shutup, Kura you don't know what you're talking about." The read receipt thing isn't an issue, it was just a question. The issue is about the PM system saying it's sending PMs when it actually isn't ://
