In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, we've seen two professors make appearance—Oak, who is originally from Kanto, and Elm. Of the two, which do you think had more of a big impact within the plot? Personally, which one is your favorite? Is there anything that you dislike about them? If so, if you were in-charge, which other Pokémon professors would you have rather involved in these games?

I don't really have much of an opinion of Prof. Oak in these games. He just does the usual Quest Giver routine and doesn't usually have anything interesting to say.

Elm didn't really do much for the plot either but whenever I talked with him he always had this adorable nerdy quirk about him that makes it quite fun to talk to him.

Yeah Elm seems like if pokémon ever leant really heavily on giving characters a lot more character, he'd be a lot deeper than Oak. I like how the Kimono Girls suggest he'd been manipulating things behind the scenes more than you might think with regards to player capturing Ho-oh/Lugia.

In the game, I see Professor Oak being mentioned a fair bit, but Elm gives you your starter and the Togepi egg, and the Master Ball for that matter. While I like Oak more, i'd say that Elm does more for you throughout the course of the game.

    Elm.

Oak is IMHO, so bland and generic that the game could've gone ahead without him. His usual "LEMME RATE UR POKEDEX" stuff gets old, like him. He's never really contributed much to the story in any game aside from giving you a starter and a Pokedex.

Elm, however, has done more than Oak, actually has a personality, and you can see his family. Oak seems to have appeared out of nowhere, like Team Rocket.
