Project PS; The Pokemon shifter case, part 1:

{Yes...} Teioh said, adressing the Houndoom and fixing him with an intense stare from his light blue eyes {Stand down and no-one will be hurt.} He maintained his vigil over the girl, but did his best not to hurt her. This idea was beginning to seem worse and worse to Teioh however, as the girl certainly wasn't acting in a manner that was usual for an LG operative. In fact, the emotions radiating from her were heavily laced with fear and confusion. "Mara, Seth..." he called telepathically "We've got things under control. You can come over now."

The houndoom snarled. He didn't want to stand down, he wanted to fight, and smash that cocky little umbreon's face in. But... he couldn't bear to risk it. He dropped down onto his haunches, and then, thinking better of it, lay all the way down. He even went as far as to dip his head apologetically, but all the while his eyes still burnt with anger. {Back away,} he growled at the umbreon, {Back away now, or you're gonna start hurting something chronic!}

The girl watched her pokemon desperately. Rave freaked out a lot. He was that kind of dog. If he freaked out now... well, it was unthinkable.
"Please, get off." she told the umbreon softly. She hoped he'd have the sense to listen.

{Now what's the magic word?} Teioh asked tauntingly. Noticing that the Houndoom's behaviour was reaching manical proportions and hearing the genuine concern in the girl's plea, he reluctantly decided to play along.

"Fine, but don't try anything." the boy-Umbreon shot into her head as he released her from beneath his bulk, still watching both her and the Houndoom suspiciously. It wasn't like he was loosing anything by revealing his talent of mindspeak. After all, every LG operative would surely be aware of his...condition. If anything, this would serve to prove wether this was the one they were searching for or not. "We only came to get our friend." he added, wondering what was taking Seth and Mara so long and hoping that he wasn't making a big mistake "Where did you take the Squirtle?" he asked, his mindvoice gaining a hard edge and his eyes blazing dangerously.

The houndoom rose to his feet, towering over the umbreon threateningly for a moment, before padding over to lie diligently across his trainer's lap. His let out a low growl, before finally closing his eyes.

The girl petted him absent mindedly, all her thoughts on the umbreon. We? she thought, and cast an anxious glance about. And he mentioned a squirtle too... so did my commissioner...
"First thing's first." she said, her voice strengthening, "Who are you? And how come you can use telepathy?"
In all honesty, she didn't paticularily care about his name. She just wanted to check whether she was right about the gender - without having to suffer the embarressment of bending down and checking. The umbreon's vocie was masculine, no doubt about it, but with pokemon you never could be sure. She liked to be certain about these things. For nearly a decade now, her life had been full of 'ifs'. This wasn't going to be another one, trifle as it might have seemed.
As for the telepathy... It brought back memories.

Unbenknownst to Coran, Teioh actually skimmed her surface thoughts before she spoke. She obviously knows something... he thought for himself Let's just see how much...

"Who am I?" Teioh echoed, slightly taken aback by the question. Was she trying to play some kind of mindgame? He regained his composure however, giving of a mirthless chuckle. "Yes, you lot probably don't care too much about who you involve in your little scheemes, do you?" he asked, his mindvoice regaining its previous edge "But before I tell you my name I would know yours, and what you did to the Squirtle, don't bother denying, I have already sensed that you know something so I suggest that you answer honestly, I will know if you don't."

Coran tensed up, and her Houndoom became automatically alert. He shot Teioh a warning glare; he was smaller, weaker, and despite his growlithe back-up, could be dealt with easily. Rave wasn't in the mood for games.
Neither was Coran.
"I haven't done anything to a squirtle," she spat at him, her hands automatically reaching for her pokemon's neck. She leant closer to her houndoom, a growing look of suspicion evident in her eyes. The guy that was paying her had mentioned it in passing... but under his breath, not to her. She had nothing to do with a Squirtle. To be perfectly honest, she never had liked those whiney little water types.

Teioh returned the Houndoom's glare unflinchingly. He might have been smaller, but there was a fierce glow in the boy-Umbreon's eyes that suggested that he was more than ready to grind his opponent into the dirt nonetheless, or die trying. If he had to defeat this Houndoom to get to his friend then that would be what he would do, plain and simple. What really disturbed Teioh was the fact that, despite his best efforts, he couldn't find any trace of falsehood in the girl's words, which lead to the nagging suspicion that they had nabbed the wrong person. He still had to make sure, Squirt's life was on the line here and there was no room for maybes. "Squirt is not whiny!" came a rebellious shot of mindspeech from Teioh at the girl's last surface thoughts, an exclamation which he certainly hadn't meant to release. The boy-Umbreon sighed, slightly concerned that there might be other things leaking through; emotions of worry and confusion, maybe it was better to take another approach to this. "I see..." he replied slowly, acting as if his previous outburst hadn't occured "Far be it from me to pose a simple question and hope that an LG employee would actually provide a straight answer for once. Let's start this out correctly, shall we? My name is Teioh, and there's no need for that suspicious look..." he added "If I intended to harm you then I would already have done so when I had the chance. Now would you please tell me your name?"

Coran had heard a powerful mixture of emotions in his mindvoice. Anger, Confusion, and perhaps the faintest trace of fear. His fierce amber eyes were a mesh of feelings, and Coran found herself struggling against the urge to hug this rude, but oh-so-sad umbreon to her chest. There was something about him... Coran guessed he had been through a lot. Most likely he had lost a lot, too.
"Teioh... I'm Coran." she replied, and ran her fingers along Rave's horned head. The houndoom spoke up at her words, too.
{I'm Rave.} he said, directly to the umbreon, {And she's telling the truth. We've never had nothing to do with a squirtle, save a brush with the fire squad when we was younger.} Now the houndoom had stopped growling, his voice had become soft, almost melodous (sp?). He had settled down now, but there was still that look of deep-rooted mistrust in his scarlet orbs.

OOC: Side note, Teioh's eyes are actually light blue, it's kind of a part of his human form appearing in his pok?mon shape.

IC:

The change in the manner of both Coran and the Houndoom, who introduced himself as Rave, didn't go unnoticed by Teioh and he couldn't really find any deceit in the dog pok?mon's words either. "I see..." he replied, his mindvoice now sounding far more regretful and far less hard "It-it would seem that I have been mistaken then." he said after a pause "Perhaps you aren't the ones we're after. I-apologize...with my sense of smell clouded I couldn't tell the difference. But could you tell me, what are you doing around these warehouses at this hour?"

Coran's eyes narrowed ever so slightly, but she smiled despite herself. "I would say nothing, but I doubt you're that stupid." She shook her hand so the keys she grapsed jangled slightly, "Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies." She stroked the umbreon's long ears fondly. She had always loved umbreons, with their long ears and knowing amber eyes... Except this beast, for some reason, appeared to have blue ones. She pulled her hand away, and began stroking her houndoom again. Coran was an extremely cuddly person, but she had always seen touching another person's pokemon a bit of a taboo. God forgive anyone that touched Rave... the houndoom was like an extension of herself, and despite his bad temper and jumpy nature, he was part of her.
Sh glanced down at him; he was sniffing the air, a look of utmost confusion on his face. For a moment, Coran couldn't quite figure out what it was. Then she turned to Teioh: "Is your trainer around?" she asked, suddenly feeling more wary. Such an intellignet, tame pokemon had to have a human partner. No way could it be wild.

However, Coran had reahced the wrong conclusion. Rave was sniffing for quite a different reason. It was nothing to do with scenting a human; more, scenting an imposter. He turned Teioh, lowering his head. {You're not an Umbreon,"} he muttered, half to himself, {"You don't smell quite right..."}

Teioh shrugged, the girl was obviously hiding something but he wasn't really all that big on pressing the matter at the moment, Coran didn't seem like such a bad sort really, although he did wonder slightly about what she would think if she knew that it was actually a teenage boy she was stroking. My trainer? he thought for himself at the question, recalling what Mara had said a while back "He's around here somewhere." Teioh replied, partially wondering for himself where Mara and Seth were. He was slightly surprised by Rave's comment, but it wasn't like the first time he had been exposed.

{Perhaps not...perhaps I was something different once. It all depends on how you define an Umbreon, no?} he asked {Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies.} Teioh echoed Coran's words. He didn't do it in an offensive way though, but rather in a It's-better-for-you-if-you-don't-know kind of tone.

The houndoom's lip twitched, into what was almost a smile. {"All I know is, you certainly weren't never an eevee."} With that said, he settled back down on Coran's lap, his head on her stomach.

The girl was still for moment, like rabbit in headlamps. "He's around here, hmm? Maybe..." she stared off, towards the warehouses. There were a few left she hadn't searched yet. She didn't want a nosy good-for-nothing boy turning up while she was still looking. She trusted in her pokemon, but while they could fight, they certainly couldn't make a human forget that he had seen her sniffing around. There'd been many strange disappearences recently; most people weren't willing to take the chance of being out late.

OOC: Oh sorry! Been busy with the torrent of adoptions that have been placed upon me. ^^; Plus, it's the weekend, and I like to relax. =P

Mara (and Squirt, but you probably already know that)
-------------------

Mara and Seth dashed forward looking a bit apprehensive, but unwavering in their determination. They wanted to show Coran exactly where they were and save Teioh the trouble of more explaining.

Seth frowned, "Alright," he said, "Where's Mara's--?"

"Where's my Squirtle!" cried Mara, tears falling down her cheeks, "Why'd you take her you monsters! And after what you've done to--!"

But now it was her turn to get cut off by Seth, "Mara!" He shook his head ever so slightly, and then turned to the girl before him.

"Sorry, you see her pokemon's been kidnapped, and we think she's been taken here," he explained, not realizing what a large discussion Teioh had just had with her.

Mara tried to calm herself down, but it was hard to when she was so worried. She looked around for Growlithe, but she didn't see him; where had he gone? She began to feel even more lonely than she had been.

Suddenly though, Growlithe returned, coming up to the side of Teioh and mumbling to him.

{I checked around the building, and there appears to be no one else guarding right now,} he said to the boy-Umbreon, {If we can get this girl to be compliant with what we want, then we will have an easier time finding Squirt.} His eyes narrowed at the Houndoom before them. Growlithe had never been particularly found of those creepy, strong, fire dogs.

{Hm...,} he mumbled to himself. He had a feeling that the Houndoom had been ready to take him on, and probably would have won. Though Growlithe knew that he would never have gone down without taking a piece of his opponent with him.

~~~~
Squirt suddenly felt more bored and lonely than she had in her whole life. Well, the life she could remember anyway. She leaned over to the bars of her cell and called over to Biggs once the hourly guard had left. It had been Roberts, and he had reminiced about he and Squirt's love life in an attempt to scare her. Instead, the Graveler-like human had only succeeded in emarassing himself as Squirt had come up with many comebacks to say. She would not let herself be so easily intimidated.
"Hey Biggs, how's the psychic power practice coming?" she asked the pink pokemon.
Biggs had been attempting to bend the bars of his cage in order to escape, but had little luck in getting them to do more than vibrate strangely.
"GGGHHGG!" he grunted, concentrating his hardest, but the bars just conitnued to sit there stubbornly. He stopped and panted from his hard work.
{Nope. Nothing. Useless, aren't I?} he said, looking a bit depressed. After all, he was unable to escape when Teioh and Limpy did, and couldn't escape himself when he was alone either.
"Not at all," Squirt said, "You don't see me doing anything. Humans aren't very good at bending bars either I'm afraid." She smiled. Then she thought of something.
"Biggs? Can you see out that window of yours? Can you call out or something? Maybe we can get someone to hear us," Squirt said excitedly. It was their only chance of letting anyone else know where they were.
"Murr!" the Murkrow squawked indignantly as she noticed that her usual hideout was under a sudden invasion of people and pok?mon, flapping around in annoyance and searching for another warehouse to stash her prize in. Suddenly, she spotted a building none too far from her which looked just right, the windows were barred but she had a lithe and agile form and would surely be able to squeeze through.
{Hey! I think there's someone coming towards us!} Biggs called out, peering through the window. {It's...blast it! It's only a Murkrow!} he slumped back down to the cell floor.
Meanwhile, the Murkrow broke into a triumphant dive towards the window with Limpy firmly held in her taloned feet. What she failed to anticipate however, was that her meal was still very much alive.
{Hurmph...!} Limpy muttered, twitching slightly as the air current brushed against his whiskers {SOMEONE CLOSE THE BLOODY WINDOW! I'M FREEZING IN HERE!} the Rattata yelled, startling the Murkrow who instantly released her grip in mid-dive, sending Limpy on a crash course with the barred window, although he was luckily spared from being squished onto the barrs.
{Oooof!} Biggs exclaimed as the tiny projectile struck him on the head and rebounded onto the floor with a dull 'thud'. {You okay little fellah?} the Slowbro asked, walking over to Limpy.
{Buggrit...} the Rattata replied, gingerly rising to his feet and limping his way towards the bed, {Great, another cell...} Limpy muttered, peering at his surroundings and still incapable of recognizing Biggs {But at least I'm not sharing it with a bunch of veggies and psychopaths this time...}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I've still got the Mean Look on them..." Teioh replied telepathically to Growlithe "But I'm sure you understand that I'd rather not resort to using that." he turned his attention to the trainers.
"Mara..." the boy-Umbreon sent out, his mindvoice softer this time "She's not the one...but maybe we can persuade her to help us."
{OOC: Oh, but L_A~! Your artwork is so cute! *cuddles Pandora* No wonder everyone wants one. Or two.}
IC:
For the second time in the last hour, Coran found the urge to hug someone rising. It took all her effort, not to leap up and hug Mara around the waist. She sufficed by kissing her houndoom on the nose. He didn't seem to mind, and grinned sheepishly.
Rave was a sheep in wolf's clothing; fierce as he seemed, Coran new his soft side. She also new the part of him that wouldn't hesitate to attack if his trainer seemed in the slightest of danger.
"Don't worry, Mara," Coran said, in what she hoped was her kindest voice, "I'll help you look, if you want. I don't know where I'd be without my Houndoom." Trailing off, she glanced to Seth. It was incredibly embarressing, sitting here on the floor.
OOC: Tch. Or twenty. >_> Just kidding. I really do like that something I can do is so popular (who was never popular in high school? *points to herself* Me...). The other artists at PC should do stuff like that too. Stretch their wings out a bit and get away from the black hole that is the art forum.
Mara & Squirt
------------------
"R-Really?" she said blinking, "You'll help?" She felt as if it were too good to be true, but her instincts were telling her to believe Coran. She nodded.
Growlithe looked between Rave the Houndoom, and Coran and knew that he would not be so trusting. He was always skeptical about people who were so eager to help. He had been that way about both Seth and Teioh too. Although now of course, he knew Seth was harmless, and Teioh... well, he did admire the boy's determination and strength. But what exactly did they know about his life as a human? No, he had never really mentioned that, had he?
"Alright then," began Seth, "So what do you know about our Squirtle friend?"
~~~~

"A Ratatta?" gasped Squirt as Limpy fell with Biggs to the ground.

Limpy looked around a bit more and Squirt blinked as he glanced at her. Biggs dusted himself off with a frown.

{Veggies? Would that be me you're talking about? I'm not a veggie anymore you know!} Biggs said, trying to shake off the annoyance of being smashed into by an old Ratatta.

Squirt felt she should introduce herself, "Hello, I'm Squirt. Um, do you two know each other? Does that mean that you know Teioh as well?"

OOC: Alright people, I'm gonna be back later to check up on this and other stuff. But not until late this afternoon (which where I am will be in like 5 hours or so) because I'm going with my family to a city tradition, the Ducky Derbie. They drop a bunch of rubber duckies into the Sacramento River and they race and whoever's duck crosses the line first wins. It's kinda silly, but we haven't gone in like 5 years, and our neighboor's kid begged us to buy a small group of ducks, so we're going. Hey, maybe we'll win the patio boat or whatever the first prize is. ^^;

Ja matta! (See you next time!)

OOC: Heh, I'm one of the people who'd go for twenty. What can I tell you? It's an addiction. ^^ Meh, and I wasn't really popular in high school either (Nor am I popular now) so join the club...but yeah, it does you credit that you step out among us common folks a bit. The other artists would do well to follow your example. And good luck with the Ducky Derbie! Sounds like a fun thing actually (Suitably random for my taste), wish we had something like that over here in Finland.

IC:

"Look..." Teioh said as he released Coran and Rave from his Mean Look, guessing Growlithe's thoughts, "I know you don't trust them. But if they can help us find Squirt I for one am willing to play along. Besides, I've got a good feeling about Coran...don't know what it means exactly though. It's just a generally good one. I still have psychic powers, remember? But if things do get ugly I promise you I will do my best to keep Mara and Seth away from it." Teioh turned to the trainers but retained his silence, allowing Coran to explain the situation from her own point of view, it would serve as a partial test of honesty at the same time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Limpy turned around at the mention of Teioh's name. {Hey!} he exclaimed in surprise {How do you know Teioh?} the Rattata then shook his head as he remembered that the human probably wouldn't understand a word of what he said and turned to the Slowbro instead, squinting his eyes. {You look kind of familiar...} he said slowly {...Biggs, right? Yeah, I remember you...you came in with that numbskull Teioh. He was a nice kid, sure, but still a numbskull. And it seems like you've been doing your homework.} he added sarcastically, absent-mindedly massaging a bruise on his back with his left foreleg {You seemed to have trouble forming sentences when we met last time. Hmm...and I guess I finally got to know what 'Biggs wants', eh?} he threw a meaningful look at Squirt {Not a shabby pick, but she's a bit on the young side, isn't she? Well, I'm not sure that I even want to know how you went around the whole physiological aspect of the thing but you sure seem to have been having fun while certain people were fighting for their lives.}

OOC: Can Squirt understand pok?talk? Cause' I just have to see her reaction to this if she does. :P

OOC: Wow Finland. That's a long ways away from where I am. ^^; There was a girl in my junior year of high school that was from Finland. She was really cool.

Oh, and Squirt can understand poke-speak. She's been a pokemon for quite some time, so it just comes natural to her now. ^-^

Mara & Squirt
---------------

Growlithe nodded to Teioh. {Fine then. I'll behave myself. I trust your judgement. Psychic powers are something I neither have or understand, but I do respect them.}

He smiled a bit. He had forgotten the thing that he probably admired most about the boy-Umbreon before him, what would he call it? Ah... heart.

~~~~
"Excuse me?! I would certainly not be doing, what-whatever you insinuated that I was doing, with that Slowbro you dirty old rat! That's disgusting! And furthermore, Teioh is not a numbskull. If anyone should be given that title, it should be you for dropping right into an LG base!" Squirt snapped at Limpy the Ratatta, "And I can understand you, Gramps, because I was a Squirtle up until a few hours ago."
She paused for a moment and then threw a smug glance at the rat, "You know, you were there when he said 'Biggs wants'; maybe he was really talking about you."
She was more than tired about being discussed as an object for men; especially after all those chats with Roberts. Not to mention... Biggs? He was really a human! She stopped. 'Oh yeah, she thought to herself, 'I'm really a human too....'
"Oh, that is it!" She stood up and stormed around her cell, obviously thinking hard.
Squirt had had it. She was tired of sitting in a cell and talking small talk with these others. She was glad they knew Teioh, but they weren't getting anywhere. Soon it would be morning, and they were going to take her far away. She wasn't about to just give up and let it all happen; she certainly wasn't the kind of girl to sit quietly and wait to be rescued.
"I am going to find a way to get out of here if it's the last thing I do!" she said, gritting her teeth. She looked over to the door to the room.
"Okay, here's an idea, how about the next time a guard comes in, we knock him out somehow?" she suggested, watching the door anxiously, "They always shut the door after they walk in, so no one would hear the scuffle. Biggs, you've got psychic powers, and well... perverted rat over there can just do whatever. Just knock him out somehow. Can you even do that?"
Before Biggs could answer though, the door to the room opened and the hourly guard, Roberts again, stepped over the threshold.
{ooc: Finland's cool. Never been there... I live in England. I guess Highschool would be your equivilent of our secondary school, and while I don't claim to be popular I'm not a loner either.}
Coran gave a sigh of relief, and pulled herself to her feet. She had felt the Mean Look lift - strange, considoring she had noticed it being put on. She gave her houndoom as rough pat on the head. "Well then." she said, glancing to Mara. "I honestly...don't know much..." She trailed off, looking embarressed. "I'm...a freelance trainer. I take on jobs from all sorts of clients - kidnappings, burglaries, all sorts of things. I'm not proud of it." she began to flush bright scarlet. "You see... I was told to come here, with these keys... and steal a cardboard box. I don't know what's in it... It's not a pokemon, though." She added quickly. For a moment, she simply stroked Rave. "But... when I was leaving... I overheard the man talking. He was on the phone, saying he had the Squirtle, and he would send it on to him soon. I didn' hear anymore, though. I had to get out sharpish." She looked at her feet, feeling the blood rush to her cheeks.
Rave was eyeing up the growlithe and umbreon in turn. Neither, he decided with a raised eyebrow, would pose a threat. He was a good deal bigger than both of them. Probably stronger too, he wagered. For a moment, he considored grabbing Coran and making a dash for it. He didn't trust other pokemon one bit.. but for now, his trainer seemed contented. He would be too.
OOC: Yayyy! My homeland is the place of coolness! Well, uh...sort of...XD
And I have to admit that I'm not completely sure about how the other school systems work. Aaanyhow...you seem to have missed a question there, Charon-chan. *Points at the Melissa's second latest post*
IC:
Teioh smiled a bit, happily surprised by the fact that Growlithe was finally beginning to trust him. Not feeling like ruining the moment with his own words, the boy-Umbreon returned his attention to the discussion of the trainers.
He frowned slightly at Coran's explanation however, although more out of confusion than anything else. "Why do you do it then?" he asked the girl, tilting his head slightly "It's obvious that you are a good trainer, why don't you make yourself a living by battling like others do?" his mindvoice gained a certain compassionate tone to it "I might not be the best of psychics." he confessed "But I still know that you have the potential for something much better than the things you are doing now."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Limpy listened in fascination to Squirt's outburst without making the slightest expression {Witty...} he said at last, in an emotionless voice {How very witty...you have no idea how long I've had to survive without hearing wittiness. I'll have you know, young lady, that I've been treated like an old chew toy for the past few days and I certainly didn't expect this kind of treatment from a supposedly 'good' person. I've completely misjudged you...} he took a dramatic pause, absolute seriousness expressed in his eyes for a moment before a wide grin spread across his face {You have A backbone after all! You might be just as reckless as that Teioh, but you've got a backbone too. I'll help you out...}
Limpy was interrupted by Roberts sudden entry, quickly dropping to the floor and playing dead as the guard entered the room. {Now's your chance...} the old Rattata hissed to under his breath to Squirt {Get him to bend down next to my mouth and he's in for the surprise of his life.} there was a slight flash of a wicked grin Limpy's face before he resumed his act properly. Preparing his teeth for something he had wanted to do for a long time...
