Greetings all! First post and all that jazz.
Anyway, I've seen a lot of different pokemon challenges - Monotype where all pokemon have to share a type, Scramble where a friend picks your team, Speedrun for best time, Single where you only get one pokemon, Unevolved where all your pokemon must have higher forms that you never unlock, etc. One challenge I've never seen listed is the one I'm doing now in FireRed, the "Pure Type Challenge", where every single pokemon on your team has only one type.
This is a significant limitation! It means you can't use most of the starters in most of the games! It also means you'll never be able to train anything that can use Fly. Most of the Legendaries and Pseudo-Legendaries are dual-type (often with Flying or Dragon in there). In addition, a lot of pokemon gain and lose secondary types as they evolve, reducing your options still further.
In exchange, I got the change to really make use of a lot of B-listers, pokemon whose stats and movelist were otherwise sub-par, but who represented rare types. Tangela is the prime example, the only Gen1 grass-type allowed under the challenge. Psyduck was my Water - I was shocked when I found out he didn't have the Psychic subtype.
My team (note: this was partially a Scramble challenge as well, and the friend made me promise to train everybody equally)
Normal: Meowth
Water: Psyduck
Fire: Growlithe
Psychic: Mr Mime
Grass: Tangela
Electric: Voltorb
Ground: Cubone
Dragon: Dragonair (holding Everstone)
Fighting: Mankey
Poison: Ekans
Rock, Steel, Dark, Bug, Ghost, Ice, and Flying don't have pure-type members that I know of in FireRed.
So, questions!
1) Do you think this is a good challenge? Would you do it?
2) Has anyone ever proposed this challenge before? Do we know their teams?
3) What are the various pure-type pokemon of each type, for each game? Is there a list anywhere?
4) Which pure-type pokemon would you like to see in a team like this, if I do any other games?
Thanks!
