I've always wondered this ever since I was a kid playing Silver, wondering how to get Mew and Celebi: How do you get them?

I mean, yeah, you can get them from Nintendo events, but what happens when the event is over? Is there officially no chance of getting the Pokemon? And what about the days before Wi-fi? How did people (without cheating) actually complete their Pokedex?

So confused. I want a Celebi for my SS but seeing how I got my copy days after the event was over, does that mean I'm screwed? Does that mean Nintendo only cares about early buyers?

There was never a Celebi event outside of Japan, so you still stand a chance.

Mew event is over, but it means lots of people have them thanks to wi-fi (I have 2 :D)

You could look in the Trade Corner for Mew and Celebi, as people use the magic of cloning to make it that 100 legit pokémon suddenly become 1,000,000 legit pokémon, half of which are the same one :P

You can also wait for Celebi to be released in the English-speaking part of the world, eventually.

Before wi-fi, people just had to drive to the events....or cheat. Some people cheat.

Also, I don't know about before....but in Gen IV, you can get the National Pokédex Diploma if you've caught every pokémon available in-game - So Manaphy, Phione, Shaymin, Darkrai, Celebi, Mew, Arceus, Jirachi and Deoxys aren't counted towards the diploma...although you won't have 493/493 captured.

Yeah, back in the day, if you didn't live anywhere with the events, you were screwed. And once it was over, it was over. There wasn't Wi-Fi where people we trading the extra event Pokemon that they had like today.

And there might be a Celebi event on the way for us for HGSS. Just check the events page at Serebii and you'll see what I'm talking about. We're hoping it's gonna get here for us soon enough.

This should have been posted in a Simple Q&A thread, but since it covers more than one generation of games, I understand you might've been confused. Next time you have a question that covers more than one generation, I say you should just ask in the newer Q&A thread (for example, this should have gone in the HGSS Q&A thread).

    Locked.
