    Hey guys!

I don't know what's wrong, but whenever I try to access PC from my laptop I get "Internet Explorer was not able to open this webpage." but it works fine on my desktop computer. My desktop and laptop are connected to the same router so I know it's not my internet connection. Maybe the IP address of my laptop has been banned for some reason?

    Please help me out.

    Thanks

Did you try using a different browser other than IE? Try Firefox or a differen browser and tell me if it works or not. I had a similar problem with one of my cousins computer (I tried accessing PC from there, but his IE didn't allow me, but his FF worked fine.)

I tried chrome and firefox and still same problem.

It's not your IP address, as your router hides your computers under the same IP address to the outside world. It's likely that PokeCommunity may have gotten into the hosts file (addresses that your computer thinks are itself) on your laptop somehow. I do not remember how to solve this issue, but some members have had this issue within the last month or two due to a hacking tool that was released in that time period.

Otherwise you may be connecting at times when the server crashes.

Outside of a user editing the HOSTS file to include PokeCommunity.com manually, some malware/spyware/viruses/trojans may make edits to the HOSTS file automatically and insert commonly visited sites and forcibly resolve them as either "127.0.0.1" (the localhost IP loopback address), or any other IP address, usually those of adult video websites.

In any case, the laptop should be scanned for spyware or other malware.

Was it because of the tool "Pokemon Game Editor" which has basically a lot of the hacking tools all-in-one? I read something about it like that. If that is true, please let me know so I'll reformat my laptop with the system recovery.

I think it is one of the tools I downloaded. I just need to know the name of the tool. As donavannj said, there was a tool released that edits the host file. I think that is what has happened.

    donavannj's answer isn't right.

Unless that hacking toolkit was infected with malware, there's no way it could have edited your hosts file. Doing so requires administrative privileges anyway, so unless you are on XP and running as Administrator or have UAC turned off on Vista or 7, that isn't your cause.

However the others here in this thread are on the right track. Google search and download Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essentials, and run a scan. If you're using something like Trend Micro, Kaspersky or McAffee please disable those first and try loading PC again, those AVs are known to cause random user headaches like this.

You might also wish to try to search Spybot Search & Destroy and download it. That will let you know pretty quick if you've caught any of the common nasties and may be able to clean your system of any misbehaving junkware or adware that can cause this sort of problem.

I recommend Avast! Antivirus personally. AVG is typically effective as well. Malwarebytes is a good program as well, for quick checks and clean-ups but I suggested Spybot S&D over it because it offers better protection and immunization after you clean things up to keep that type of crapware OFF your computer.

Furthermore I suggest you go through your Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel and uninstall ALL TOOLBARS! Anything that adds a toolbar to ANY installed browser, except for an antivirus program should be uninstalled and never re-installed again. Furthermore you should WATCH CAREFULLY when you install programs. DON'T LET ANYTHING INSTALL BROWSER TOOLBARS. They're unnecessary and add bloat to your computer and browser, slowing you down and sometimes grinding things to a halt.

Pachy, there was recently a hacking tool that was found to edit hosts file, iirc. It wouldn't allow people to get on the website because of that. I guess you weren't around for that, but I can't find the thread offhand so I can't be sure what tool it was exactly.

    Hey guys!

Thanks for all your support. The "Pokemon Game Editor" would actually request for administrative privileges(on win7) whenever i run it. I just formatted and restored my laptop using Acer Recovery, so basically the hosts file was restored and now I can access PC again. I think other PC members should be warned of this all-in-one "Pokemon Game Editor" made by Gamer2020 and it is hosted on 0xrh.net

Thanks again for all your support guys.

    DashBlacK out.

I assumed you were misinformed or oblivious. So I downloaded the program and ran it within a sandbox. It appears that did happen, but the problem does not exist within the current version of the program as far as I can tell, but a box popped up after the tool ran it's update explaining what had happened. I should assume the tool is safe now or will be in the near future but I didn't notice any edits to the hosts file inside the sandbox. Odd, but I can attribute that to the fact that the tool has been updated so that it won't do that. Also VirusTotal and a few other sites found nothing wrong with it so I suspect it's clean now.

I didn't give every function of the tool a run, I just started it inside the sandbox with admin power and watched what it did inside there.

Please note that I post this here for other users here as a confirmation that the program developer has found the problem and has fixed it. Thus if you go to that site and find the latest version on it's forum it should theoretically be clean, but I do advise strong caution. I will not link to the program here or anything like that, you've gotta find it/update it so you can get it. I personally don't trust this developer.

For future reference, it might be better not to assume someone is misinformed or oblivious. I was 100% sure of that thread existing, I just couldn't remember the hacking tool. And the person who wrote the tool posted on there claiming his friend edited it and added it in, which no one can really confirm whether it was him or his friend, but either way he did fix it once it was brought to his attention.

Maybe it's your IP Address. I had problems like this before. But then I received an email from the webmaster saying that if I have problems loading the page, I should send the IP Address to him/her (really dunno his/her gender).

    Here's the email: [email protected]

    Good luck!
