Hey all, I'm new to these forums been enjoying some of the discussion here and I'm fairly new to the pokémon tcg.

My question is can you construct a deck made of cards from different generations; what I mean by that is for example could you play the Mewtwo from the very first series of cards with a mewtwo from the Diamond & Pearl set? Same goes for trainers and such?

There are two formats to the game.

Unlimited: You can use any card from any generation, as long as it is otherwise legal (IE: no fake cards, no foreign cards, no marked cards, etc.)

Modified: This only includes the most recent sets. All official tournaments run on modified rules. You can check here for the current modified set list. This includes Pokémon cards and trainer cards. Most tournaments honestly don't care about Energy, of course.

You can choose to play either with friends, or even make your own rules, such as including fakes.
