In the blistering heat, she steps outside with water bottle and phone in hand, knowing the journey will be arduous, long... and possibly futile.

Hey, it's Rai and this is my Pokemon Go Adventure Log! Since starting Pokemon Go, I have discovered a lot of new places I didn't know existed, and have been finding new areas of my town I have never been to before.

As of right now, my current level is 14 and here is a list of all of the Pokemon I have caught so far...

    Spoiler:

I don't want to go back and ruminate on my experiences from the very beginning, so I will just start with what happened today.

    July 26, 2016

After seeing tons of Pokemon constantly appearing on Pokevision at a nearby park, I decided to venture there today. And oh my god.

It was Pokestop, Lure, Gym, and Pokemon heaven. It is a small lake with many benches, all engraved in remembrance of people who have died. These benches are all designated Pokestops and because the lake is small, it is the perfect place to walk around and pass through all of the streaming petals and Pokemon.

But apparently I wasn't the only person to discover this secret. There were thralls of kids, teenagers, and young adults, all walking around with their phones, scouting the area. Or, there were gathered in big groups, challenging gyms or taking advantage of Lures. There were so many people that it was difficult not to bump into someone in front of you; if you walked too slowly, people bumped into you from behind. As someone who suffers from social anxiety and claustrophobia, this was not the best situation.

However, I was able to enjoy the walk and the scenery... and of course catch some Pokemon! At this lake I caught two rare Pokemon: a Bulbasaur and a Charmander. There are apparently Dratini and Electabuzz in the area, but my phone and patience for people were dying.

Don't get me wrong. I am glad so many people, young and old, are enjoying Pokemon and that the franchise is making a comeback, but it was just too many people. I definitely want to go back to that area when it is less crowded.

Other highlights of the day include:

Catching two more Pikachu! With every Pikachu, I am one step closer to getting a Raichu~! Mwhahaha....

Oo you've caught some cool stuff - jealous of the Exeggcute and Tauros! Out of interest, will you use PokéVision all the time or only whilst the 3-step glitch is happening? The area you were in sounds really lovely and the amount of PokéStops there to lure just sounds fabulous for making quick progress haha. It's a shame to hear that you're not enjoying GO so much due to all the people but hopefully you'll have more fun with it once all the hype dies down a tad - I'm sure these people won't all be spamming it so much forever :)

Haha thanks. It took me forever to find a Tauros! I noticed that a Tauros always shows up when I am near a big, open field. You might be able to find one in an area like that, but apparently Tauros is only available in North America... As for Exeggcute, I have only caught one, but I have seen a lot of Exeggutor in gyms around here, so there has to be an area with many Exeggcute somewhere nearby.

What is the 3-step glitch? I have seen some people mention it on here.

The park is lovely. It is beautiful and serene, a great place to visit even without the Pokemon. But it really is the perfect place to make some progress. And yeah, as I said, I am glad people are enjoying it, but oh my god. There had to be at least 50 people, maybe more, and the area is small.

I am having a lot of fun, though. Is it as spammy where you are?

Basically in the 'nearby' tab every Pokémon currently has three footsteps underneath it, but those footsteps are meant to be a measure of the Pokémon's distance from you and should reduce to two and then one footprint as you get closed to them as a method of tracking them down. The system's totally broken right now however so it's basically not possible to track down Pokémon unless you're relying on blind luck. That's why a lot of people are using PokéVision now - it's a way to get around the in-game tracker not working haha.

Not even close to it but I think that's a good thing - not sure I'd want to play in an area as busy as your's XD

Oh okay, that makes perfect sense. I noticed that the tracker wasn't working like it was supposed to and I was getting really frustrated. That's why I started using Pokevision. If the glitch gets fixed, I will probably use Pokevision less, but may still use it sometimes to see what rare Pokemon are around out of curiosity.

And you are lucky! I live in New Jersey, the most densely populated state in the US... and it doesn't help that I live ten miles from New York City, making things even more crowded. I wish my area was calmer like yours.

    August 5th, 2016 (Currently Level 16)

Yesterday I went back to the park I mentioned earlier (*I plan to write about other places than just this park, but I thought I would update this now) and I have to say that I enjoyed it much more.

To my surprise, there were still a lot of people playing Pokemon Go at the lake, but there were far less than the first time I went. I am not sure if this is because of the demise of Pokevision and the footstep tracker, or because it was morning on a Friday (last time it was evening on a Tuesday). I was glad to be able to see people enjoying the game and not have to worry about being trampled.

One of the other people playing was a boy wearing a legitimate Ash hat. I have one of those. I should dig it out and wear it, although my timidity wouldn't like all the attention it might bring to myself. Other awesome people I saw were an adult couple who were playing Pokemon Go while walking their baby in a carriage. I seriously saw my future in that moment. (Don't worry, they kept to the main path and weren't bringing the baby to any strange places in order to get Pokemon).

I walked around the lake a couple times and was actually able to take in the scenery. It really is a beautiful lake. At one point I came across a Lure that was placed near an empty bench. I sat down and read my book while letting the game run, only pausing when my phone buzzed and a good Pokemon showed up. It's funny because Pokemon Go is a type of technology, and yet it has allowed me to reconnect with nature and given me an excuse to read outside. It must be an oxymoron to see a girl with a 21st century smartphone reading a book from the 1800s (I am currently reading Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austin).

While at the Lure, I caught a bunch of water Pokemon, including Staryu, Magikarp, Slowpoke, Krabby, Goldeen, and Seaking. I also caught enough Poliwag to evolve it into a Poliwhirl :3

However, the rarest Pokemon wasn't directly next to the lake. I ventured down a path that lead to other parts of the park because I was curious to see what Pokestops were in that direction. Pokestops were scarce, but, during my search, I happened upon a Jynx and captured it! :3

A Scyther also appeared on my radar, but unfortunately I was unable to find it without the help of trackers :( I walked around the lake so many times trying to discover it and followed other trainers who were looking for it, but it was to no avail.

Although Scyther was forfeit, I was able to capture a ton of Charmander (seriously, this place is Charmander heaven!) and evolved it into a Charmeleon, which made up for the loss of the Scyther. Now it is going to take me forever to find enough Charmander to get a Charizard, unless I get lucky and find a wild one.

This experience was really fun. The nature and calmness of the area really helped to settle my nerves. I usually hate doing things that bring attention to myself and dislike when people stare at me, but I became so relaxed and content at one point that I just laid down in the grass and let all of the people pass me by, not caring if they gave me strange looks.

    :3

Here is an updated list of the Pokemon I have caught:

    Spoiler:

Very jealous of all the Charmander you're finding, and love the book shout-out! Shame about the Scyther escaping but at least Jinx is pretty cool haha. The area for hunt for Pokemon in sounds wonderful, very jealous of that! Also it's cool that you find so many Water Pokemon there - do you think the landscape really reflects the Pokemon encountered that extremely? Sounds like you're on a Charmander nest anyway so I'm expecting to see a badass Charizard soon ;)

I would have preferred the Scyther. Jynx is one of my least favorite >.> But at least I found a rare Pokemon.

Yeah, I think the lake really affected what Pokemon that showed up. I also think the fact that the Lure was right next to the water is what helped so many different kinds of Pokemon show up.

And thanks, I hope to get a Charizard soon! :D However, I am trying to visit different places so I am not sure when I am going to go back to that park to anytime soon. I plan to write an entry about a Nature Conservatory I found the other day :3

Hi. It's Rai. I just wanted to apologize for not updating this. I actually have been playing Pokemon Go a lot, but haven't had a lot of time to go on the computer.

I just began another semester of grad school, so I am definitely not going to be playing as much. However, I still plan to update this and write about all of the adventures I went on during the summer!
