If it goes for the effect/ vibe you want it to have, it's very simple...
 
HOLY! *jumps back from the screen* (Totally didn't notice it was animated) Wow, that gave me a shocker. I didn't think it was animated and when the eyes went all big...well...

Transition of repeating the animation could be something better then just fading to the beginning again...9/10

ah yes, a screenshot avatar. For this the quality of the resizing is key.
