Re-doing my movesets

Not really... dream eater does heal, but when will Butterfree ever get damaged? It's usually full hp or 0 hp for a Pokemon like Butterfree. Plus, Psychic and dream eater doesn't have that much of a difference in terms of power. You're better off relying on supersonic to protect butterfree than healing off the damage with dream eater.

Which brings me to Hitokage. Isn't he more of a full HP or 0 HP Pokemon due to stats? That's the only reason I've been reluctant to give it Leftovers or Shell Bell. What item do you recommend for it to hold (I've got Kairi's vote, but I like second opinions to be safe), and what would you say for a specific moveset? It's important to me that Hitokage can do really well in battle.

Yes... I personally prefer quick claw just to strike first to bring out the damage on Hitokage. I'll use a set of dragon dance/rock slide/brick break/flamethrower I guess...

Ok, why would that moveset be good? Flamethrower's almost a given but I need to know why those others are important to have.
Just an idea, but what if Blacky used Double Team enough then Baton Pass to Hitokage, then Hitokage could Belly Drum, making moves like Rock Slide, etc. as strong as possible for him, and meanwhile Leftovers/Shell Bell could restore health (the only thing with Leftovers/Shell Bell is the "Full Hp or no HP" thing).
So I guess with lower stats Hitokage has a lesser chance of striking first so it needs the Quick Claw?

well Hitokage has low stats because it hasn't evolved yet. Use quick claw to try out outspeed your opponent. Plus a lucky quick claw can burn those forretress before they expldoe XD

You can try belly drum/double team, but Crobat, Swellow and Salamence will be your worst enemy because all of them are common aerial acers. Keep quick claw (or even brightpowder) anyway because you're not suppose to be injured due to double team anyway.

Well I doubt Aerial Ace, with a base power of 60, would knock out Hitokage in one hit. Maybe if it got a critical hit, but even moves with a high chance of a critical hit like Slash or Leaf Blade seem to have a hard time getting that in Ruby and Sapphire (FireRed and LeafGreen are probably the same), or at least a harder time than in the other games. But then this makes me reconsider Leftovers/Shell Bell...

Slash and any other high critical hit move has a 25% I believe (not sure), not the 255/256 chance back in RBY ;p

Aerial Ace with STAB is scary enough on these flyers. The fact that flying type (offensive-wise) is very powerful against so many types make it a very usable move. And if both Pokemon are equal in level, a STAB aerial ace will surely knock out Hitokage who hasn't evolved yet (and therefore, too low def and hp to handle it)

same type attack bonus

the normal amount of damage dealt will be multiplied by an extra 1.5 at the end if you're using an attack the same type as the type of the user. Gengar using Shadowball/Sludgebomb, Metagross using meteor mash/psychic or Starmie using surf are all examples of STAB.

The chance for ?high chance? crit moves in GSC/RSFRLG is 12.%, in RBY it was 99.6%. ^_^;

Wow, that really is different! ^^;

So frostweaver, you're sure that a Pokemon like Salamence, Crobat or Swellow would knock out Hitokage with just one Aerial Ace (and both are equal level)? That just seems a little too easy. But if you say so (I do intend however to try to get Hitokage the highest stats possible for its species).

When their attack power is like 100 stats higher than your defense, especially if Hitokage's HP is around 200~250s, you really should be afraid of it =/

Even if Hitokage has max stats?
Even if I assume that you got max HP EV, max Def EV with personality bonus, you still won't live the standard setup from those Pokemon, and if you do max stat your def and hp, then your offensive power drops by another miserable 60 points from max.

You're saying that unless I use GameShark I can't get max stats?

In R/S, there are sort of?EXP points for individual stats, as in the other games. However now there is a cap for all the stats combined that can?t be passed. So it might only be able to be average in all of them, or only excel in attack and speed for example.

Well I'd like Hitokage to be strong in all areas, as with my other Pokemon.

Sorry to double post, but what is the % of success for Brightpowder?

EDIT: I'll just combine that into one post then

Brightpowder gives you lvl 1 double team as you enter into battle, and this one lvl cannot be hazed away or psyched up.

With the ev system, you have to either choose an area to accelerate in, or to just go average (but that's not recommanded for most Pokemon)

So having Brightpowder would be like an automatic Double Team (when it's used once)? That's pretty cool.

Would Seismic Toss be a smart move for Hitokage? If it was at level 100 it would deal 100 damage right?

Seismic toss does do a good amount of damage as it disregards defense and offense stats. It's a great way for Pokemon not to waste any EVs on offenses in order to do some fair amount of damage. PP isn't bad either.

However, if you're using seismic toss, don't put any physical attack EV into Hitokage then (provided taht you aren't using any other physical moves). Invest EVs for better purposes. Seismic toss maybe a great help for Hitokage along with dumping other EVs in special attack.
