Really, Quality Inn?

Now, it's no secret that I prefer Quality Inn as they're usually an excellent value for the money (I've stayed at more luxurious chains for anime conventions and enjoyed them, but they're too expensive for me unless I'm sharing and splitting the room cost with others.) With that said, I am virtually guaranteed never to stay at one of our local locations again.

My parents were coming into town for a quick visit. I booked them a room at the Quality Inn in question, where I've stayed four times prior with no major issues. But I happened to notice a sign posted at the front desk, which pretty much assures there will be no 5th stay unless I move out of the area:
(this is paraphrasing, but it gets the point across)

"We will NOT rent any rooms to local residents living within a 30 mile radius. NO EXCEPTIONS!"

I am still completely baffled by this decision. Two hotels across the street have big conference spaces. They're losing money from conference attendees who might want to save a little bit of money. They're losing money from locals who might be displaced due to issues like gas leaks at their own homes. And they're losing money from people who might look to stay locally just to "get away from it all" for a few nights.

Oh well. There's at least two other Quality Inns in the area that don't have such a ridiculous policy in place, and now they'll get my business. Those two also happen to be just a bit nicer than the location in question.

tl;dr: SMH at one local Quality Inn's policy of not renting rooms to locals.

Doesn't make sense to me why they'd do this.. but then again I've always thought Quality Inn was a bit lacking on the ...quality side of things.

What's worse: On their online booking site, they make no mention of this policy.

As for their "quality," I think it depends on which one it is. I've stayed in one Quality Inn that was an absolute dump, and two others that were borderline dumps, compared with about 8 that were nice.

If I had the disposable income, I'd definitely stay more often at Embassy Suites, though - the one I stayed at for my latest convention was really nice.

If they have a "solicitation" problem, it makes some sense, but a 30 mile radius is quite a large radius, even if it is typically only an hour drive one way at most.

The thought of problems with certain "activities" did cross my mind. Still (a) this location has interior hallway access to rooms, whereas these type of people usually prefer the motels where you enter right from the parking lot (quick escape if the cops show up, plus they don't have to sneak their "clients" past the front desk); and (b) rates here are around $59-$69 where cheaper $30-$40 places are found just a mile down the road. It's also not in a bad section of town, though like I said there's a bad section not far down the road (there are a lot of bad sections in my city though :P )
