OK, I asked for my last gallery to be closed because I was just like 'lololol i hav gimp lets make sum banners lolol'. Now I'm getting somewhat serious, I'd like to post some work that I've actually put some effort into. >_> Hence the name of the gallery.

Bear in mind that I am still new to GIMP, so please don't kill me. I am able to take criticism, though. I hail from the fanfiction section, after all.

All renders in this gallery are from planetrenders unless otherwise stated.

I'mma go ahead and post some banners and stuff here . . . If you're lucky, they may be in some sort of order. XD
Actually, they're kinda chronological. Kinda. They will be from first update on, though.

I'll group these in threes.

Made this for the IOTW #12. I think I got the dude's name wrong, because I haven't read/seen Pandora Hearts. Oops.

I made this one to advertise a fic of a friend of mine. She gave me the three backgrounds, and I splicified them, added birds, Giovanni, and text. Pretty simplistic, so don't judge me. I didn't want to spoil it with a C4D or fractal.

Well, as of October 26, this is my current theme. It's colourful and pretty, but not too complex. The lyric's are Linkin Park's Leave Out All The Rest, if you're curious.

This is where we start getting a little tricky. I discovered (totally accidentally) that Render + Drop Shadow - Render = Drop Shadow. (duh) I like it. This'll be my next theme, once Colourful!Yuna has done her dash. Same render as the one above.

I think this is the point where I realised that the more crap you pack into it (without going overboard) the more interesting it looks. This one may have gone a bit overboard, but it's a learning curve.

:3 More Linkin Park lyrics (censored, naturally). Anyway, Sasuke. Yup, he makes a nice banner. Especially with that Chidori. Render could have been better, I guess. Meh.

Miku! <3 Haven't made a Miku theme in so long. This is a WIP, I'm just waiting for inspiration to strike as to what to do next. :3

Whoa, this is kinda old. I made it a while ago, and it's fairly simple, but it has a glowy line. :3

I don't know who this is. I just searched 'purple' on planetrenders because I'd made a smexy purple background. I think it came out OK. I wanted a lighting effect, but it made the render go screwy. :(

This one was fun. I just pasted the render on a plain background, and idly splodged it while I wondered what to do next. Then I realised it looked pretty epic and left it that way. :3
Oh, and that's a Supernova effect. Forgot I put that there.

Just to keep the groups even, I'll whack this in here. Just made it this morning in a few minutes to head the gallery. I <3 BRS. I've also just discovered the 'Overlay' setting.

Experimenting with a new style here. Lots of images on overlay. I had a mushroom cloud, some lightning, and a cityscape. I also put a lighting effect on the stock to make it look a little bit more awesome. (hopefully)

And this sparkly one. I followed a tutorial for this one, but it wasn't working that well, so I improvised, and voila.

Can't go wrong with an icon. Sho Minamimoto, iirc?

Meh, this is pretty bad. It looked even worse before, though. Render quality could have been better, but it was just such a perfect pose. Sakura ftw.

My favourite band, grungy and grayscale. I like how this one turned out, actualmente, and I used my nice new brushset in conjunction with my favourite font.

Because the song just pwns. Lots of lighting on this one. Too much, y/n?

OKAY, the sexy font didn't really lend itself to 'BANG', so this is what I got. Hmm, I like it. Nice font, too. :3

You mean the renders? Yeah, I see lots of banners where the focal is almost obscured by the effects and C4Ds, and they look great, but I personally prefer to see the renders more clearly.

Here's one I made this morning that I think sort of fits what you were suggesting, though?

I agree with xxkaylabby, also there alot of options in the blending options like the color dodge, linear dodge, softlight, lighten, etc,etc..try to use them instead of full overlay.

looks like it's just brushes and a little smudge. You could try adding some c4d and set them into something that will make the render matches it.

Yeah I'm running out of time rating the other stuffs.

there's so many stuff you can do with them adding some hq stocks, some gradient maps, the filter options, clipping masks, and more.
Try to look for tutorials everywhere like deviantart.

That's all it is, and not even the smudge. There was so much I was planning to do with this, but I got to this point and went 'Yeah, this looks pretty cool' and left it. I'll make an alternate version.

All of them look simple. Try looking a tutorial on how to use the c4ds,
Also learn the basics on gimp, you won't get it unless you learn the basics, yeah I've been there and I was a noob.
But I see some good stuffs there like the psi claus request and the one you made in a tut. :)
Also you gain knowledge after learning a new tutorial right? Well try to mixed it on your previous styles. Also don't overdo the brushes instead use any styles such as the c4ds, smudging, adjustment layers etc....

Yeah, most of them look pretty simple, and I'm doing nothing but tuts recently because I really want to improve. So now I've been coming out with stuff like this:

And I made a version with a C4D, which I don't think looks quite so good.

But anyway, yeah. I like the first version better, personally. I'm designing a FF theme collab based off this, if anyone's interested. I've done Lightning, Rikku, Sephiroth and Paine so far. More are planned. (I'll blog it later in more detail)

V - new stuff.

Anyway, I've been doing lots of tutorials since Avenging Angel.

This one was made without a tut. I was just experimenting with C4Ds and layer modes here.

My favourite so far. I made this following an excellent tutorial. VG said it looked the same as the one in the tut XD. I like to think that's only because I chose the same character for the banner. I really need to watch this anime.

Made with the same tutorial as C. C., with a render that I DID MYSELF. God, it took forever to render that, and I did a really bad job. But it was a learning experience. It was fun.

SOTW #70 entry - Abstract was the theme, so abstract it is, if a little Halloween-ish. Meh, no stocks or C4Ds here, just brushes and text.

My next favourite, after the C. C. banner. Made without a tutorial, just to prove I can. Idk, I like it. I rendered the image myself again, which may explain if it looks a little choppy. I still fail pretty bad at rendering.

I'll put these in the gallery in the morning; too tired right now. But enjoy. Hopefully you can see improvement from my earlier work.
